merryana, please tell us your favourite romance films? your taste is exquisite ❤️
hiiii thank u for asking! i've already listed my fave romcoms here. so, this list will be purely...rom (??), or at least films that are more rom than anything else. idk if there will be many because i'm not a massive fan of pure romance media, BUT
portrait of a lady on fire (2019) - the lesbian gaze is so beautiful so powerful. even finite love stays with us and makes us!
the handmaiden (2016) - can be a tough watch, but literally the romance in this film is god tier. because its the truth in the swindle!
love, rose (2014) - i love this movie so much! just so much. its so optimistic. the love that is meant for you will find you when you're ready
Penelope (2004) - hard to explain why i love the romance of this movie without spoiling it but just watch it i promise you'll gasp!
emma (2020) - not putting pride and prejudice 2005 on here because duh but a jane austen gotta be here and its my controversial opinion that i'd take a mr knigtley over a mr darcy any day of the week!
la la land (2016) - weirdly enough i like the romance of this for the same reason i love portrait which is that its about how even when love isn't meant to last it makes lasting changes in us that make us who we are
if beale street could talk (2018) - barry jenkins knows how to create romance on film like no one else on earth and makes me want to be in love so much and this is no exception
cairo time (2009) - this fucking movieeee okay like its got issues!!! but the longing and yearning between patricia clarkson and alexandar siddig in this movie?? unparalleled. and how it ends?? i think about it every day
soulmates, ep4: layover: one of the most romantic standalone episodes of a show ever like,,,,wow
jane the virgin: this show LOVES romance, so if you want to watch a show that fully embraces romance in all its glory, you can't go past jtv!!
still star crossed - everything Bridgeton thinks its doing, this show did first, better and with a hotter cast.
there aren't many here, but in my defence, i was a romance anti for a long time because i was raised by a mother who ALWAYS watched romance so it took me ages to figure out how to actually like it on my own terms. which is hard when its being shoved down your throat 😂 I'm honestly still figuring it out, but i love these movies for how much they make me appreciate romantic love as a worthy story for its own sake.
