Slipping in through a window and coming to the elf chained up high in a tower, Kravitz realizes something that the Admiral and all of his subordinates did not: this is not the Avatar.
Taako, conversely, has no realizations about the identity of this burglar. His face is concealed by a skull mask, and he's never seen anyone running around with a scythe like it's a weapon before.
But the burglar cuts him free, and he's not one to turn down a gift. "Alright, reaper man!"
They get pretty far before encountering any real problems. The Reaper moves just as quickly and almost as smoothly as Taako, so they have no issues keeping up with one another as they escape, even as they start getting chased. He even manages to pick a few pockets.
But when they're stopped less than ten feet from the final door, surrounded, the Reaper turns to a more desperate measure. Taako suddenly finds his neck between a sternum and a blade.
He can feel the Reaper's chest against his back as they move backwards through the open door, Taako's life as the bargaining chip.
They get a good distance away before Taako hears the thwack of an arrow against the Reaper's mask, and feels him slump. Taako flings a smoke bomb he picked off someone to the ground, and with the cover, he drags his rescuer into the woods and loses their assailants.
(And he'd better be so fucking grateful about it, Taako is built for dexterity, not strength, and he's well past out of breath by the time they reach a safe spot--)
Taako's normally of the opinion that a masked man ought to have a right to his privacy, but also, he should really check if this guy's breathing.
Oh.
He must have come for Lup, then. Did he realize it was Taako when he arrived, and rescue him anyway? Or did he just not know?
In another universe, someone waits for light to awaken their rescuer before fleeing.
Taako doesn't. He lays Kravitz in a way where he won't choke on his own spit, lingers only another silent moment, and leaves before the prince can begin to stir.
