The Before, and The After Part 1
A Knives Out Story
Series Masterlist
Warnings: Language, sexual content (This chapter is tame, but in the future)
Summery: A wealthy classmate of Meg’s becomes close to the family- a little too close to the playboy grandson of Harlan Thrombey. The events before, and after, Harlan Thrombey’s death.
Elizabeth Stevens fidgeted in her chair as Detective Elliott stood across from her, whispering with an officer named Trooper Wagner. She pulled her thick red hair over her shoulder, and the soft waves cascaded over her like a river of blood. She had the deep color of red that looked almost unnatural against her pale, freckled skin. Her lips were painted the same color of her locks, and the pout she sported emphasized how plump they looked.
“Excuse me?” She raised her hand to get the men’s attention, “Are you two going to question me or not? I have places I need to be.”
Trooper Wagner faced her and smiled weakly, and the woman tried to shrink back into her chair at the attention, “I’m so sorry ma’am. We’ll get started in a moment. Where do you need to be exactly?”
Elizabeth paled a little, not expecting him to ask her about her personal life, “Uh, I have a doctor’s appointment.” She rested her left hand on her stomach, her massive diamond shimmering in the fluorescent lights of the police station.
Elliott pulled out the chair across from her, and she cringed as its legs scraped against the floor, “Well, why don’t we get started then. Your husband is Phillip Stevens, correct? His father is in charge of the Thrombey Estate.” Elliott read from a file and Elizabeth nodded, “I’m assuming that is how you have come to know the Thrombey clan so well?”
“Well...” Elizabeth trailed off and looked to the back wall. She swallowed and took a deep breath, but as the memories started flooding back she smiled, “Not exactly.” Elliott smirked at her and she crossed one muscular leg over the other and leaned back in her chair, “The Thrombeys are the reason I met my husband, not the other way around.”
“Mrs. Stevens, are you aware of the reasoning behind your visit with us today?” Trooper Wagner asked from the back wall.
Elizabeth inhaled deeply and took a drink of her water, “Harlan Thrombey committed suicide a few days ago. I’m guessing you want to question me about it?”
“Your father-in-law suggested it. He said you and Harlan were close.” Detective Elliot pressed and Elizabeth bit her bottom lip nervously. Elliott and Wagner shared a confused glance, then Elliott turned back to Elizabeth, “Perhaps he was wrong?”
“No.” Elizabeth said quietly, finally looking the detective in the eye, “I knew Harlan very well. I knew all of them very well.”
“Knew? Or know?” Wagner clarified.
Elizabeth shifted in her chair, twisting her mouth to the side and looking down, “My relationship with Harlan was strained in the end, that rippled down to the rest of the family. Harlan was the center of their universe, without him, they’ll self destruct.”
                                             Three Years Earlier
Meg Thrombey drove down the dirt road toward her grandfather’s mansion a little too fast, but they were running late for her family’s Harvest Fest picnic, and her Aunt Linda wouldn’t be pleased about it.
“Listen, you aren’t ready for my family, but I appreciate you keeping me company.” Meg laughed as her “Big Sister” from Amherst College pulled her Jimmy Choo heels off the dash.
“It’s fine. I’m sure I’ve seen worse.” Elizabeth Reynolds chuckled, looking out the window at the beautiful woods. “This place is gorgeous.”
“Just wait until you see it. His house is so creepy, but you’re gonna love it.” Meg promised as they pulled up to a metal gate. After waiting a moment, the groundskeeper let Meg in and she continued on her way, looking at her watch and swearing under her breath, “We were supposed to be here an hour ago. My family takes these stupid holiday celebrations way too seriously.”
“It’ll be fine. Better late than never. I’ll charm them by being my starstruck self.” Elizabeth bat her eyelashes at Meg and the younger girl rolled her eyes. “Of all the little sisters I could get for my last year, I can’t believe I got my favorite author’s granddaughter. What are the odds?”
“You picked me, didn’t you?”
“Maybe I saw the last name and took a chance. I was curious.” Meg looked over at the stunning redhead and she added, “I think it turned out rather well, don’t you?”
“Yeah, sure, whatever you say.” Meg grumbled, but Elizabeth just beamed as they approached a massive dark house.
“Holy shit.” Elizabeth mumbled as she leaned forward to get a better look. “It looks like something out of one of his books.”
“Just wait until you see the inside. I bet he’d give you the whole tour if you asked him. None of us really give a shit.”
Elizabeth feigned surprise, but she knew Meg wasn’t interested in the source of her family’s wealth. If her relatives were the slightest bit like she had described, Elizabeth deduced they wouldn’t be interested in Harlan’s books either.
Meg parked her car behind a slew of other chic vehicles, and Elizabeth let out a wolf whistle, “Damn, is your whole family successful?”
“No, my grandfather just gives everyone money.” Meg deadpanned, turning the key and pulling it from the ignition before tossing it into her bag. “Aunt Linda owns her own real estate company, Uncle Walt runs Grandpa’s publishing company.”
“So they are also super successful. Got it. Your idea of unsuccessful is not making ten million in royalties every year.” Elizabeth teased, fluffing out her thick bangs. “So what do I need to know before I go in?”
“Uncle Walt is intense, Uncle Richard is sleazy, my cousin Jacob is probably going to kill someone someday, but it’s okay, because he’s white and upper middle class.” Elizabeth snorted, then covered her mouth, knowing it wasn’t funny. Meg took a deep breath and continued, “My grandfather is going to be your best friend, and his nurse Marta is basically family. Aunt Linda is rigid but Aunt Donna doesn’t have a personality, so they kind of balance out. You might see my Great Nana, but she doesn’t talk, so don’t worry about her. And you know my mom of course.”
“Yes, love Joni.” Elizabeth hummed through her smile, “Is that everyone?”
“Everyone who’s going to show up.” Meg retorted, pushing open her door, then looking over her shoulder, “If it gets to be too much, say you need to use the bathroom. Text me and I’ll come rescue you.”
Elizabeth pushed open her own door and swung out, looking over the roof and calling, “I think I’ll be okay. I’m an adult.”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Meg sing-songed as she led Elizabeth up to the front door. As she pushed it open she called loudly, “Hey, sorry we’re late!”
“About damn time you showed up!” A man’s voice called from farther in the mansion.
“That would be Walt.” Meg mumbled as a mousy looking man with a cane came around the corner. Meg gave a short wave and walked toward him, casually gesturing to her friend, “This is Lizzie. She’s my Big Sister from college. She’s a big fan of Grandpa’s books.”
“Is that so?” Walt asked as he looked Elizabeth up and down with a grin, “Well I run the publishing company. We’re hoping to bring the books to the big screen in the next couple of years. You’d like that, right?”
“Uh, yeah, I guess. As long as they were done well. There’s nothing worse than a bad book to movie transition.” Elizabeth looked over her shoulder uncomfortably as she saw Meg’s mother walk into the room, “Oh, hi Joni!”
“Hiii Lizzie, how are you, honey?” Joni slurred as she wrapped the girl in an awkward, one armed hug. She held out her wine glass to the side and swayed a little as she pulled away, “I’m so glad you could join us today! Come on, let me introduce you to everyone-”
“That’s really not necessary Mom, I’m sure she doesn’t need to- okay.” Meg was ignored and Joni steered Lizzie toward Harlan’s study, where the author was speaking with his eldest daughter.
Lizzie’s eyes widened a little when Harlan Thrombey, the Harlan Thrombey, looked up at her with a smile. Joni shoved Lizzie forward, and the redhead was suddenly very aware that Meg hadn’t joined her, “Hi Dad, this is Lizzie, she’s Meg’s friend from Amherst. She’s part of the Big Sister program for the underclassmen.”
“Nice to meet you Lizzie.” Harlan said as he reached out and shook her hand, “This is my daughter, Linda, and my new nurse, Marta.” He gestured to a small Latina woman who waved shyly from the chair she was sitting in, filling a syringe with medicine for the older man.
“Dad, Lizzie is such a huge fan of your books. I’m sure she’d love to chat with you about them. She just couldn’t stop gushing about you when I met her during Welcome Weekend.” Joni giggled until she drowned herself out by downing her wine, “I’m going to get a refill. Linda, you want anything? Lizzie? Dad?”
“No, I think we’re fine. Thank you.” Linda said sharply with a tight lipped smile. She tilted her head to study the pale girl, but didn’t say anything for a long moment before asking, “Are you old enough to drink?”
“I’m twenty three.” Lizzie answered softly, playing with the ends of her hair and waiting to see if the white-haired businesswoman would interrogate her further.
Linda stared up at her from her spot perched on the desk, and her smile grew a little, “What do you study?”
“Writing. I’d like to be author someday.”
Linda turned to Harlan with a knowing smile, but his smirk didn’t change, “We still have some time before lunch is ready. I’ll leave you two to talk then.” Linda stood and left Harlan’s study, pulling the door closed behind her.
“Would you like me to leave as well, Mr. Thrombey?” The nurse asked, but Harlan just shook his head and squished his face, disapproving of her suggestion.
“Call me Harlan, Marta, we’ve talked about this. And no, you can stay, she can stay, right, Lizzie?”
“Of course, I- yeah, I’m just really honored to meet you!” Lizzie gushed as she took a seat across from Harlan, “I’m such a huge fan! The Needle Game is what made me want to go into writing... the twist in the end, where the body had been stored in the luggage compartment right below them the whole time. Your writing was beyond brilliant.”
Harlan chuckled as Marta smiled softly, carefully inserting the needle into the man’s lower arm. “Well, I appreciate that, Lizzie. What do you consider my weakest work?”
“Excuse me?” She asked abruptly, turning back to Harlan after studying the wooden figurines emerging from his study walls. Her mouth hung open for a moment, unsure of how to respond, “I think they are all wonderful...”
“But I want to know which one you think is the weakest.” Harlan challenged and Lizzie huffed, drawing her brows in frustration. Harlan just smiled and leaned his arm on his desk to get closer to her, “I want your honest opinion, as a fan, because an author is only as good as his worst work.”
“If I had to choose, and I hate that you’re making me,” Lizzie looked past Harlan out his study window at the sprawling grounds beyond, “I guess I’d say Nick of Time. I didn’t feel it was realistic. The writing was great, but the plot was contrived. I don’t believe Maggie would kill Nick in the end, after everything they went through.”
“But she wasn’t happy.” Harlan argued, holding the young woman’s gaze, “You would have written her as a martyr?”
“Yes.” Lizzie answered boldly, her smile growing, “I think it would have made the ending more devastating. That she murdered her in-laws but in the end she was still trapped.”
Harlan nodded thoughtfully, taking her opinion to heart, “Interesting. That’s why I asked.”
“I have a lot of thoughts. I wrote a lot of book reports.” Lizzie retorted, looking to Marta as the woman stood to leave the room, “I should probably head back out. Meg’s going to wonder where I’ve gone.”
“Go explore the house. I’ll give you a proper tour later in the day.” Harlan promised and Lizzie took that as her cue to leave.
When she opened the door, she practically walked into a brick wall of a man: tall, dark, and terribly handsome with an ugly scowl painted across his perfect face.
“Who the hell are you?” He snapped as he shrugged out of his jacket and handed it off to Lizzie, “Take care of this for me, will you?”
“I don’t work here.” Lizzie stammered, completely in shock as the man shoved past her. Her shock turned to anger and she dropped the brown trench coat on the floor. “I’m not your maid.”
Lizzie turned on her Jimmy Choo heels and stormed off to find Meg down the hall with her family. “Hey, how did it- what happened?” Meg asked frantically as Lizzie huffed and simmered, looking back over her shoulder.
“Tall, dark hair, huge ass- jerk.” Lizzie caught herself and Joni swallowed down another glass of wine, raising it in recognition.
“Asshole honey, you met Ransom. He’s an asshole.”
“Sweetheart, what did he say to you?” Linda questioned, suddenly a hundred times softer than she’d been before.
Lizzie groaned, feeling the color drain from her face at all the attention she was receiving, “It’s fine, really. He just didn’t realize I was a guest.”
“Ransom!” Linda yelled and another blonde woman that Lizzie hadn’t met yet shrunk into the corner as Joni poured herself another glass. Linda looked to a man Lizzie guessed was her husband and whispered something in his ear before yelling again, “Ransom!”
“What?” He screamed back as he stormed into the room, holding his coat over his arm until his eyes fell on Lizzie. His scowl turned to a wicked grin and he scoffed, “Oh I’m sorry? Did I offend you? Here, let me pretend like I care.” Ransom strode toward Lizzie and she stood her ground, keeping her mouth shut as he stopped inches from her, staring down his sharp nose at her freckled face. He grabbed her hand and kissed it, then dropped it and handed her his coat. “Now, can you take care of this for me? I’m going to get a drink.”
Linda and Richard chastised the man as he swept out of the room toward the kitchen while Joni yelled at the couple for raising such a terrible son. A frazzled woman in her forties scurried up to Lizzie and took Ransom’s jacket without a word, but Lizzie barely noticed.
She wasn’t sure if she was more confused or conflicted. She wanted to steer clear of that horrible man, but, part of her wanted to understand what made him tick.

You’re a Dancer
A/N: I got kinda carried away with these so sorry bout that. (I'm trying to ignore the fact that I failed a math quiz I thought I did well on and this seems to be helping ) Also, most of them kinda stray away from the whole dance idea (just a bit) but they're all centered around it. Well, enjoy reading and thanks for being awesome! I would really appreciate some feedback. Also, is anybody else a dancer? Thanks lovely peoples!
Warning: Swearing
Luke
"The following people have been dismissed: Kasey Noblant, Corey Black, Anabelle Melia, James Smith, Katherine Rangel, and Andrew Curry. Thank you for your time."
You had made it past the first step of the audition process. You were almost positive the multiple mistakes you had made during the ballet audition would have your name crossed off the list. Apparently it didn't. You knew you were close to being crossed off though. You would have to work your butt off if you wanted this summer intensive scholarship.
"Ladies, please put on your tap shoes. The next portion will consist of a short warmup led by Mr. Luke Hemmings along with a combination."
"I'm going to get cut next. I suck at tap." The girl next to you said as you were putting on your shoes.
"I'm surprised I didn't get cut from the last part. I'm not that great at ballet, but I'm pretty good at tap. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging though." You reply.
"It's all good. I'm the exact opposite; great at ballet, terrible at tap. The only reason I considered the audition after I learned there was tap in it was that Mr. Hemmings was teaching the class. I'm Reagan by the way."
"Y/N. What's so great about Mr. Hemmings?"
"First of all, he's super hot. Second, he's an awesome teacher. If anybody can teach a tap class, it's him."
"Alright then. Good luck to you. I'm sure you're not as terrible as you say you are."
"Thanks. Good luck to you too."
"Ladies," Mr. Hemmings announces as he walks onto the floor. "Our warmup will consist of 16 shuffles front, side, back, both feet. Then we will do falaps in the same pattern, followed by some steps across the floor. 16 shuffles. A five, six, seven, eight.
The competition seemed to die down once you started to go across the floor. It quickly became apparent that tap was not the strong suit of many of the dancers. Flutters were what seemed to get people. The syncopated pull back was not the easiest move, but you had mastered the step at a younger age, allowing you to get ahead of the game.
Not long later it was time for the combination. Learning a new combination was never an easy feat, but you had been able to learn how to pick them up with ease compared to most of the girls. Once you were sure you knew it, you made your way to the center of the front line and prepared to show off your skills.
It was the middle of the combo when an overconfident dancer decided to get all up in your space and run into you, messing you up. You tried your best to fake it, because once you mess up one step it ruins the rest of the combo.
After another cut the audition consisted of you and six others girls. The competition was heavy. You could all do ballet, tap, and jazz. The girl who had ran into you was cut after the tap section, while you thankfully managed to not get cut.
"Thank you ladies for your time. We will be in contact with you regarding our decisions of scholarships within the next five days."
After you had thanked the instructors and gotten your things together, you went back to talk to them to search for areas of improvement. Most of them seemed impressed with your ability and ethic. Especially Luke.
"Ms. Y/L/N, I was quite impressed by your tap audition. I would say some of your steps in the combination could have been cleaner and you should learn how to be a more 'defensive dancer'. I was impressed on how you were able to keep dancing after being run into, but you should work on learning how to avoid incidents like that when you see them coming. Overall, you were an excellent tapper and I was quite impressed with you." He says.
"Thank you Mr. Hemmings."
You walked out of that audition the most confident you had ever felt. When you received the call that you had been picked for a full scholarship you were beyond ecstatic. You were even happier when you came to the intensive and found out that Luke would be teaching classes, as well as some privates to dancers who had received full scholarships.
Luke helped you out with defensive dancing and your tap. After talking for a bit, you found that you had similar interest, and quickly developed a great friendship.
Calum
"Calum I have super exciting news!" You yell as you walk into your house, putting down your dance bag and grabbing an orange, tired from a long day at the studio.
"What is it?" Calum asks, laughing at how quickly you were scarfing down the orange.
"Stop laughing at me. I've been dancing and haven't eaten for six hours." You say, pretending to but mad.
"I'm sorry." He replies sassily as he tosses you another orange.
"Thanks. Anyways, I got an email from a company today. You remember that company I auditioned for a few weeks ago? They want me to be the Russian lead in their Nutcracker this Christmas!"
"Oh my goodness babe! That's amazing! Congratulations!"
He pulls you into a hug picking you up and spins you around, smiling at how you laughed as he did so.
"When do you go? How long are you going to be gone?"
"This is the not so great part . . ." You start, dreading having to tell this part of the story. "I would have to leave in September to start rehearsals and I'll tour until December 23. I would get home around midnight on the 26th."
"Y/N, that's a really long time." Calum replies, the smile dropping from his face. "I don't want you to go."
"Calum, I understand that it's a while for me to be gone, but this is the opportunity of a lifetime for me. It's been my dream to have this lead since I was ten. I always got overlooked growing up and now that I'm a professional I finally have a chance to live that dream. You go on even longer tours all the time. If you have all sorts of opportunities to live your dream all the time, so should I."
"That's different, it's my job to tour. If I don't tour, we lose fans. I can't just not tour. You, on the other hand, can stay at home and preform with this company within the same state. As soon as you would get home from this I'm going on a six month tour."
"That's my point. You get to go on tours, why can't I leave the state for my career? I've never been asked to dance as a guest for another company. This is big for me. Why can't you just be happy for me and consider it?"
"It's your job to stay home and take care of things back here, not mine."
"You did not just say that Calum Hood." You glare at him. Your husband was not one to stop you from your job, especially not saying something as sexist as his previous statement.
"I think I just did. You're not doing that Nutcracker and that's final."
"I can't believe you think your so-called 'final decision' is going to determine if I'm going or not. I'm going whether or not you want me to. I'm going to go take a walk and think about my decision. I'll be back in two hours. If I'm not call me." You say as you walk outside and slam the door. It was then when you made the decision to go to the studio and think it over.
Putting on some Nutcracker music always seemed to stress you out, but right now it was the only thing that you could think about. After dancing around for a bit, you realized the circumstances of the situation. If you were gone for three months and then Calum six, there would be nine months of not seeing each other. Sure, Calum was being a douchebag by demanding that you not go, but you were being pretty bitchy to him too. After some more dancing and a ton of though, you made the decision to not take the job. Admitting you were wrong about this to Calum would be tough, but it was the most logical decision. In all of the fighting, you had forgotten to tell Calum the other good news, that you were pregnant. Logically speaking, you couldn't dance a show if you were pregnant.
~
"Cal, I'm sorry. I've decided to not go." You tell him as you sit next to him on the couch. "I can't go nine months without seeing you just for some stupid role I'll get the chance to do someday in the future."
"No babe. I was wrong. I shouldn't stop you from living your dream just because I don't want you gone that long. It's not my decision what you do with your career and you shouldn't feel guilty about my feelings because this is what you want to do. If you really want to do this, you should go." Calum replies, scooting closer to you to put his arm around you.
"But Cal-"
"No buts. It's your job, so it's your decision. Don't let me tell you what to do with your dream."
"No Cal, I can't take the job."
"Why not?"
"As much as I want Russian lead, I'm pregnant. I can't dance with a baby bump."
Calum stared at you shocked for a moment before he spoke.
"You're pregnant?"
"Yeah. In seven and a half months we'll have a little baby Hood joining us." You smile.
"I'm sorry you have to give up this opportunity for this, but this is the awesome!" He shouts as he pulls you in for a giant hug.
"I'm kinda sad about the whole 'giving up my dream' thing, but I'm pretty happy about this."
 Michael
Sure, the blisters were pretty painful, but nothing could stop your excitement as you began your solo. As long as you put on some Second Skin and toe tape you could block out the pain of your pointe shoes. Besides, nothing could stop you from jumping as high and dancing as hard as you could for the audience.
Every show was different. By the time your solo started, you were able to figure out the audience and how to dance so that they would have a good reaction towards it. Some nights were harder than others. Injuries were common among dancers and you were often thrown into a new dance in their place thirty minutes before the show started when someone went down. For example, Bailey, the original dancer of this solo, had severely sprained her ankle in class before the show and you were asked to fill in. It wasn't too bad, considering the fact that you were allowed to improve for the parts you didn't know.
Everything seemed to be going great. Michael was in the crowd, you were living in the music, and the crowd was great that night, meaning you would most likely get a standing ovation at the end of the show. Every once and a while you had to maneuver your foot in a strange way to avoid worsening your blisters and the pain that accompanied it, which probably wasn't the best idea. But that didn't matter, as long as you didn't get hurt.
Just because of how responsive the audience was, you decided to do a bunch of foette turns to end the dance. After about 16, you started to lose your footing. On your 19th, you tried to go on pointe, and ended up rolling your ankle and landing on your knee really hard, causing immediate pain to roll through the left side of your body. A collective gasp went through the audience as you got up and smiled through the pain, curtsying as the song ended, and limping of stage. As soon as you had cleared the wings you collapsed on the floor, tears of pain streaming down you face at a rapid pace. There were only a few people around you, the others either on stage or keeping their distance to not overcrowd you. Everyone was asking questions, picking you up to get out of the way of everyone else and get some ice for your foot.
"What happened?" Kept being asked, not allowing you to answer as you tried to stop the tears. The pain only worsened as someone tried to untie your pointe show and take it off.
"We need to get her to the doctor." Said Shawn, one of your partners in a dance. "Y/N, you need to get out of this tutu. Kaitlyn, can you grab her clothes and basket?"
People were running all around the small backstage area, either trying to get something for you or get around you. After all, the show must go on.
Kaitlyn came back up with your things, helping you change and get you in her car to drive you to the hospital. She had to go on stage with Shawn for a pas de duex but they had decided to have her drive you and Shawn would just have to do it as a solo.
"Hey Michael . . ." Kaitlyn started as she called Michael. "So you probably saw Y/N kinda hurt herself on stage. I'm driving her to the hospital right now. As soon as you get the chance I would advise you to stop by the hospital."
"I'm leaving now. What did she do?" Michael asked, starting to worry a lot more, if that was even possible.
"Well, from what we can tell, a sprained ankle and what is hopefully a bruised knee."
"Hopefully!?"
"It could be fractured. That would be even worse. We can only hope that it's severely bruised."
"Fine. I'll be there in as soon as possible. Tell Y/N I love her."
"I will."
~
"How long are you gonna be out?" Michael asked, holding your hand as you were having your ankle wrapped.
"At least three weeks before I can go back full time. Getting back on pointe is going to take some time though." You sigh,
"I'm sorry babe. I'll take care of you 'till then."
"Thanks babe. You're the best."
"I guess I am."
Ashton
"Ashton, you and Y/N need to work on that shoulder sit some more. The show's in two days. You two need to get it together. I don't care what you have to do, even if the position is terrible, keep her up there." Your director and choreographer, Gary, says, giving out corrections after the first run through of the show for the day.
"Yes sir." You both respond, walking to the other side of the room to work on the lift, yet again. It wasn't that Ashton was a bad partner, it was just that he was still learning how to do some lifts, shoulder sits being one of them.
"Alright, ready?" You ask him, ready to work on it for what felt like the 500th time.
"I guess so." He sighs, getting in position to grab your sides and lift you up.
You ran a circle around him before steeping in front of him, jumping so that he could lift you. As usual, you were able to make it work. The problem was that you could do it right on the spot, but anytime you would do it during the dance it failed.
After Gary had finished giving corrections, he came over to the two of you. It was obvious that he was upset. The show was in two days and his leading students couldn't get a simple lift right.
"Ashton, Y/N," He starts, giving you both an annoyed look. "I see that you can do the lift now, but during the dance, it doesn't seem to happen. What's going on?"
"I honestly don't know. It's probably just being really tired by the end of the dance." Ashton replies, looking at the ground in shame.
"No excuses. You will run it back to back until you can get it at least two times in a row, preferably three."
"Yes sir."
Running that dance back to back was no easy feat, as it was five minutes long. You were constantly running, jumping or turning. It was fast paced and you never stopped moving. Long story short, you stayed three hours later than everyone else, not leaving until 1:30 that morning.
"Okay, I know it's 1:30 in the morning and you're probably really tired, but you look like you need a milkshake. I'm taking you to McDonalds and I'm buying you a milkshake." Ashton says as you lock up the studio, as Gary had left around 11:00.
"I am really tired, but I can't say no to a milkshake right now." You giggle, placing the key in your bag and heading towards your car.
"Here, just come in my car. I'll drive you back here afterwards. I'll even buy you a whole meal if that helps change your mind."
"Alright. I'm only giving in cause I'm starving." You tease, laughing when both your stomachs grumble.
"Well, get in pretty lady." Ashton teases back, getting in his rinky-dink car and driving to the nearest McDonalds.
On the way to the restaurant you talked about college; your classes, upcoming rehearsals, and life in general.
"It's funny how we're dancers and we're supposed to be watching our diets, yet we're going to McDonalds at 1:30 in the morning." Ashton comments as he pulls into a parking spot.
"I honestly don't care anymore. I just want my milkshake." You reply, grabbing your wallet out of your dance bag.
"Nope. Meal's on me." He says, swatting the wallet out your hand.
"Alright Mr. Charming. You can pay for it."
~
"Thanks for this." You say as Ashton drops you back off at the studio so you could get your car and go back to your dorm.
"Anytime. I had fun tonight, or morning. Whatever it is now."
"I had fun too. We should do this again sometime, under better circumstances of course."
"What do you mean? 1:30 in the morning is the best time to do these kind of things."
"True. Maybe next time we could go out at a more reasonable time. Like at dinner time, as a date." You mutter out nervously, hoping you hadn't over stepped the boundaries of your friendship by doing so.
"Yeah, I'd like that." He replies shyly, scratching the back of his neck.
"Then it's a date." You smile. "Bye Ash. See you Saturday."
"Bye Y/N. I'll pick you up at 6:00 on Saturday."

So what ideas did you have for Boyd in Fade regarding human experimentation? What were you willing to put him through? Also, would you be willing to go into detail on what happened to Boyd while he was with by Janus? I always wonder about the details and I love reading your answers regarding them. Thanks ais!
Something of an answer is below but I might someday be more specific. I ended up rambling quite a lot on a bit of a tangent, so I’m putting this behind a cut.
WARNING! Some vague spoilers are below. But mostly I talk about some aspects of human experimentation from WWII. Don’t read this post if that will upset you or freak you out.
Hi! I’m so sorry, I was going to answer this like a month ago but then I lost my enthusiasm for the topic and then doubted myself on if I should talk in depth about things I had thought about... I’m still not sure right now on how much I actually should say. Not like it’s a big deal but I’m dumb. I do have the other ask still available so if I can get my weird mind and heart back on track for going at length on the topic in the future I can totally just answer off that.
Do you ever get this way, where you’re super excited about something and you can go on about it, but then if you don’t do everything RIGHT THEN while you’re inspired, even days or sometimes even seconds later, that inspiration and excitement just completely fades? It’s so obnoxiousssss D:
Anyway so what I’ll say for now is my INITIAL idea involved that super asshole bullshit thing Unit 731 did where they tied people to posts at varying lengths away from a biochemical bomb they detonated in the center to release diseases and see how long it took people to develop symptoms and, sadly usually, eventually die... if not by the disease, then lots of times by the vivisection they performed without anaesthesia, sometimes just straight up taking out organs.
But then I was like, man that’s going to be hard to come back from so I probably shouldn’t do that.
There were people who lived through these things and were subjected to them repeatedly until they couldn’t live through it again. The entire thing is just so goddamn horrific, it’s out of control. But I kind of wanted to show how the road to hell can be paved with good intentions... the idea that just because you think you represent something “good” doesn’t mean you can’t become the same person or group you purported to fight against. In ICoS, Janus was as ruthless, if not sometimes more, than the Agency, but believed themselves not to be. They justified every terrible act by claiming the other side was more terrible first.
I felt that the atrocities committed during WWII, particularly those done in secret by the Japanese government who can sometimes be overlooked now as much more innocuous than they were, were reflective of the levels to which a group would go to gain superiority over a system which they felt was denying them the power they deserved. I fucking LOVE Japan and I love so much about Japanese culture, I love the Japanese language, I’ve never been to Japan but I want to go because I know from images and videos I would absolutely love the country - but they definitely have done some really awful things that for a very long time, they absolutely refused to acknowledge. They just kept acting like these things didn’t happen because it wasn’t convenient to talk about and because of many other factors, I’m sure.
But Unit 731 was fucking AWFUL, like at least as bad as the shit happening in the actual concentration camps, and yet everyone knows about the Nazis and how absolutely horrific the camps were, yet I had no idea about Unit 731 until I was in college and my Japanese film class or something else random like that covered it. That, and the rape of Nanking, and so much else. When we think of WWII, we think of so much of what happened in and directly around Germany, and we absolutely should. But there were also horrible things happening elsewhere, which were able to go more under the radar because of various circumstances, and which are under-acknowledged globally to this day.
Essentially, because the Nazis and Germany were at the center of attention in this case, it allowed for Unit 731 and Japan to fly under the radar except to the countries and people they were directly causing massive trauma and impact. Unit 731, after all, fancied itself a scientific endeavor, in the same way that Janus fancied itself a revolution. It isn’t that science or necessarily even revolution can’t be important topics to focus on... it’s the way it was done.
That was what made me think of Janus initially... because there were all these other groups out there who kept taking the attention of the Agency, while in the background Janus was building an empire that was, ultimately, founded in pain. They also were both fine with collateral damage... victims of Unit 731 were a mixture of innocent victims kidnapped and coerced into their “cause” while others were prisoners of war at the mercy of a self-contained system that practiced no empathy. Not just a lack of empathy, a clinical dehumanization and disregard of the victim down to the aspect of not even labeling them as people, but instead calling them ‘logs’ in reference to the fact that their headquarters was an old logging facility.
Janus was against the Agency because of many reasons (some of which were very valid points), but they allowed for innocent victims to be caught in the crossfire, then turned to coercing them into their control, and began experimentation on prisoners of war and others who they ultimately saw as a project, not a person. For both Unit 731 and Janus, the end goal was far more important than the journey. This was business, and in business people get hurt. That’s fine to them, because their business outweighs the worth of the people they roll into their fold as fodder for the cause. Same as the Agency, really, but the Agency had the control whereas Janus wanted to take it. Which, therefore, made Janus believe they were even more justified in going to greater lengths to seize that control, so it would be in the “right hands.”
So the short answer is that I was initially thinking I’d have Janus basically be willing to do just about anything Unit 731 did, but of course not all to one person because they would never survive it. And some things would be unnecessary to “test” in a more modern setting because science already knows the answer which it did not know at the time of Unit 731.
The trouble is that Unit 731 was the fucking worst, and people did not leave their care intact very often, if at all. All my original ideas could potentially work if done in just the right way, but most of them would have such lasting damage realistically that it was going to make it difficult to have him roll right back into being an agent in any sort of reasonable time. And if he came back without even a possibility of being an agent, I knew he wouldn’t last long at all.
So that’s what got me into thinking of other things that might be a bit more realistic for recovery, while still being awful and representative of the lengths to which humans believe they are justified in going just because they can. Ultimately, that got me thinking it might have to be more about the mind than the body. But also ultimately, that could almost be worse.
So that was the thought process that led to what went into the book. Feel free to ask me again in the future if you want about what more maybe happened in the part I didn’t write out in the book. When my brain isn’t being weird as hell I will probably be able to explore that topic more. I’ll leave the original ask untouched just in case, too.
Oh also btw, relatively recently Japan disclosed the names of thousands of Unit 731 members, which is a massive fucking step since for decades they refused to properly acknowledge Unit 731 even was a thing. So that’s a step in the right direction, at least, and an update I hadn’t known about on this topic until I googled it just now to check something else. Although, that article is a little misleading because it suggests the only victims were Chinese civilians and that isn’t the case. It was them, and a lot of other people from other countries, which I mention not to dismiss or discount the Chinese victims, but rather to recognize them, and add recognition to the other victims as well.
Anyway I rambled enough on this and didn’t even answer your question, I’m sorry... but if you do want an idea of what I was thinking when I first went into planning that whole arc, and if you have a strong mind and stomach, you can read into Unit 731 and get a good idea of the vibe of my initial imaginings. They were not happy vibes. They were incredibly fucked up.

a/n: i saw this perfect prompt and immediately thought of daniel when i thought of who to place into the position of the person coming from the fantasy world!! idk if it’s because he’s so childish (in a good way) or what but i thought he would work the best with the prompt!! i wrote this more for fun than anything so it’s super sloppy skdfjkdslf please let me know what you think about this and i appreciate you reading my stuff! the song i named this after is here but there isn’t too much of a connection really?? anyway, hope you enjoy :-)
prompt: write the opposite of an Iskai (a story about someone who gets sent to a fantasy world). write about a fantasy person sent to the modern world.
so daniel comes from a world in which he’s one of the many adventurers trying to rid the world of evil but he’s not like super high leveled or anything
actually he’s one of the lower level warriors, think konosuba where the guy isn’t all that talented but he’s trying his best
yeah that’s daniel except he isn’t a giant shithead he’s a very kind boy trying to find his place in the world and do the right thing
anyway
somehow he gets transported into the real world
one moment he was fighting giant frog monsters to earn some money to buy some new weapons and the next he finds himself in the middle of a city at night
he still has all his stuff from the fantasy world with him, though, including the outfit and weapons
so there he is in an alleyway eyeing the cat hissing at him from the corner with narrowed eyes before picking his head around the corner to survey his surroundings
there’s not too many people out because it’s the early morning hours and most people have already retired for the night or at least aren’t hanging around the area where he’s landed
except that’s where you come in
you’d stayed late at school to finish up some project you had started working on and hadn’t realized how late it had gotten
you hated leaving anytime after midnight because there were fewer people around and you were of course rather cautious of being attacked or something even if nothing bad had ever actually happened to you
so you were walking rather quickly, keeping your eyes forward and trying to ignore any odd rustling sounds to avoid getting spooked by nothing
but for once maybe you should have listened because the next thing you know there’s a tall guy with broad shoulders dressed very oddly jumping out in front of you
before you can stop yourself a shriek breaks free from between your lips and he’s quick to wave his hands around wildly
“ah, i’m so sorry!! i didn’t mean to scare you!!”
you stop screaming but..... take a couple steps back just in case eyeing him suspiciously
sure, he seemed nice enough and he hadn’t hurt you yet but you had always been warned not to talk to strangers
especially strangers that dressed like that
had he come from a cosplay convention nearby? you hadn’t heard of any of those... maybe you should check the school board more often-
“um.. hi i’m daniel and i’m supposed to be defending the world from the big evil... nobody has ever seen him but i guess he’s super strong.”
you stare at him blankly. who the hell was the big evil
“anyway... i was wondering if maybe... you know the way? i’ve never been in this village before... so..”
village? big evil?
wait, was that a sword in his hand???
you immediately assumed that he had to have been coming from a costume party or something along those lines and decided that he had gotten a little too into character or maybe just had a few too many drinks
either way one thing led to another and suddenly he’s sitting on your couch while you rustle through his bag
you had permission of course!!! but you wanted to make sure everything dangerous was out of his reach so he couldn’t turn and attack you or something
but by now you were positive he wasn’t... going to... do that
he would have already and if anything he just seemed confused
the whole way to your apartment he’d constantly stop and ask you a million questions about the simplest things
why did those signs have lights? why wasn’t fire the main source of lighting? coffee?? what’s that?? woah food is so cheap here i’m hungry can we go get some-
so after quickly making a pitstop in the convenience store near your apartment which took longer than you had expected because he wanted to try one of eVERYTHING which of course... you said no... because money..
still you let him pick out a few things and you quickly came to the conclusion that he wasn’t from... here
by here you meant this world
because... clearly... something was up
then again you didn’t believe in magic so you weren’t sure how it was possible yet... how else would any of this make sense??
so back to the present
while you were going through his bag and eyeing his possessions with both awe and confusion he was sitting on the couch taste testing everything you’d bought for him
by the time you’ve finished pulling out all his items he’s finished eating and you look up to find everything emptied completely and him eyeing you with a grin
“everything was good thank you, we don’t have cheese puffs where i’m from!!”
you can only laugh a little at that before you carefully lift up one of his weapons with a small grunt as it was much heavier than you expected
“i’m glad you like them but uh... what are we gonna do with these? you can’t wander around the city with this stuff unless you wanna go to jail”
when he looks at you with confusion you kinda just laugh a little bit again
“daniel there’s no big evil here you need to defeat we just... go to work and school and stuff so... i guess while i do that you can hang here??”
you only suggest it because you know he doesn’t have money and also know he doesn’t really have the knowledge to be going out by himself anyway
lucky for both of you you’re off school for a few days as it’s the weekend and you didn’t have friday classes anyway so you’re able to take him around and introduce him to new things
you had called up your friend seongwoo to ask to borrow some of his clothes as your stuff didn’t exactly fit daniel and you assumed that seongwoo’s would fit even if it were a bit small
when he had come over he’d immediately quirked an eyebrow at the sight of daniel resting in one of your bathrobes on your couch after you had introduced him to the shower in your bathroom because it was much more high tech than what he was used to
(he had spent so long in there you thought maybe he’d died so you had pounded on the door until he yelled back because you refused to open that door)
“he’s just a friend” you quickly explain trying to get seongwoo to leave your apartment as quick as possible but he’s just as quick to shove his way inside with a grin
“friends don’t share bathrobes though??” he kinda whispers before walking over to drop his bag of clothes near the couch and eyeing daniel a bit
“hey i’m seongwoo! you’ll be borrowing my clothes... so... what happened to yours?”
you curse how straightforward ong is and also know as soon as you two were along he’d tease you like there was no tomorrow
damn you ong seongwoo
“y/n said they were ugly and i needed to dress appropriately to the current day and age” daniel replies, grinning as he rises to peek into the bag
and damn you too kang daniel
ong looks over at you with a raised eyebrow and a small grin and you’re quick to look away attempting to busy yourself with something in the kitchen that was much more interesting and much more important than anything seongwoo had to say to you
but of course you’re still listening to their conversation too because you had yet to explain daniel’s... situation.... to seongwoo
i mean... how do you even bring that up??
“current day and age huh?” you hate the way he laughs a little “what were you dressed like, a grandpa?”
daniel’s about to reply but you’re faster
“yup. exactly. it didn’t fit him at all!”
daniel looks at you with confusion but you only beam at him in response to which he smiles at as well, content with whatever you’ve said
“ah... well i’m sad y/n didn’t tell me about her boyfriend, but i hope i get to know you better soon! maybe over coffee someday?”
“i don’t know what a boyfriend is but coffee sounds great!!”
you’re thankful ong doesn’t press for once... at least he doesn’t press daniel but he doesn’t hesitate to drag you to your bedroom to discuss the whole daniel situation
“so... who is he and why is he staying on your couch? y’know i have a free spot on mine instead”
“uh well.. i sort of found him last night and.. now he’s living with me??? for now??”
ong looks at you like you’ve grown a head
“you... found him?? like a stray cat? y/n what the heck do you mean??”
you fiddle with the hem of your shirt before answering, a nervous habit
“uh.. well.. he comes from a fantasy world.. or something. i don’t really get it either!! but his story checks out and i trust him but i think he could probably learn a lot more from you so maybe he should stay with you after all??”
it’s a back and forth like that for a while but you both eventually come to the conclusion that daniel is from a fantasy world and has no life skills suited for the current time and that he should definitely live with ong
yes. definitely.
but that doesn’t mean you didn’t constantly go over there to visit
and of course it was because you were worried about him and whether or not he was progressing and figuring out how to live in the world and not because you had begun developing a crush on him or anything
no... of course not
so like six months had passed since daniel had first arrived and you weren’t sure if he was going to stay forever or if he’d eventually be sent back to his own world but you found yourself growing more and more upset at the idea
but you tried to convince yourself that it was just because daniel had become such a close friend already that you were scared of losing him not that you’d definitely begun to fall for him
little did you know that he was feeling the same way but was at even more of a loss of how to explain it to you
seongwoo, of course, saw the way you both looked at each other and was devising a way to get you two together because he was convinced daniel was staying forever
after all, if he were going back to his world he probably would have done it already
and in all the anime he watched they were usually stuck in that world forever so....
not that anime was real life or anything but... apparently some things from it were true???
so that brings you to sitting across daniel in a cramped cafe playing too loud music and an annoying best friend laughing much too loud
it was weird, but you weren’t going to question it
conversations carried on like usual, daniel questioning things here and there and struggling a bit with usual everyday things
but he’d gotten a lot better since he arrived, especially when it came to things like chopsticks
but that’s not important right now
suddenly halfway through the outing seongwoo declared that he had something to take care of and before you could call him out on his obvious lie you were left alone with daniel who... suddenly.. wouldn’t meet your eye??
ah... this was.. awkward
you tried to keep up a conversation but it constantly fell flat on both ends and you didn’t notice the flush on his cheeks because he kept his head slightly down and eyes on the table so you thought maybe he only talked to you because you hung around seongwoo??
so after that “date” and after you walked him home so he wouldn’t get lost you avoided him for a while
you would only meet up with seongwoo if he promised to come alone and you wouldn’t approach him at campus if you saw daniel with him so you began to feel a bit lonely but... you didn’t want to make things more awkward
seongwoo noticed the change and obviously immediately came to the conclusion that something had happened between you two and questioned daniel about it but he stayed quiet not knowing ong had already figured out you two clearly had feelings for each other
which.. it was kinda sad YOU hadn’t pieced it together
actually you were oblivious until seongwoo showed up at your place one day with a serious expression on his face
too serious please stop seongwoo this isn’t right-
“you like daniel, right?”
... what? he knew?
“uh.. no. course not. he’s just a friend... well i thought we were but i think he hates me so... no”
seongwoo just looked at you like you were stupid and maybe you were a little bit in this situation but that’s beside the point
“he doesn’t hate you y/n... sometimes you’re so oblivious”
he rolls his eyes fondly then but you can’t help but look at him as though he’s said something completely crazy “what do you mean??? of course he does?? that day you left us alone he wouldn’t even look at me??”
to that he can only laugh and again you’re just left looking at him like... huh??
“y/n, daniel is like.. completely in love with you i can tell when he looks at you but he won’t admit it either”
daniel?? in love with you??? IMPOSSIBLE
but that whole night after seongwoo leaves after you denied the possibility 29849234 times it was all you could think about
daniel loves you too??
daniel with his soft smile and strong arms
the way he hugged you and the way he was so kind to animals and other people
daniel who always thanked you even for the smallest things and looked at you as though you had saved the entire world
thinking about it, it made sense
but still, you wanted to hear it from him
so you made a plan of sorts with seongwoo and after getting him to leave daniel alone in the apartment you showed up because seongwoo said there was no way he’d confess as... y’know.. it was daniel
this whole falling in love boyfriend thing was a bit new to him,, he had never worried about that kind of stuff in his world
you knocked on the door and waited patiently and daniel opened the door with wide eyes obviously not expecting you since you hadn’t talked to him in weeks now
poor boy
“oh.. hey y/n”
he steps aside to let you in, smiling softly as you make your way inside
he shuts the door behind you and fiddles with his fingers nervously, having not been alone with you for a while
“daniel, i have something important to tell you”
he looks at you expectantly, almost a bit scared you’ll tell him you never want to see him again
“i think that somehow, somewhere along the way i fell in love with you... and... i’ve never felt this way before so i was hoping you felt the same way?”
he’s silent. you’re silent. inside you’re screaming, sure that seongwoo and you had both been wrong all along and god this was the worst day of your life you were going to kill ong when this was all over-
“i think i love you too y/n”
you pull yourself away from your inner monologue to meet a blushing daniel’s eyes to which you flush a darker shade of pink
he was so cute
of course he was, it was daniel
you didn’t know he was thinking the same thing about you in that moment
not that you had a lot of time to dwell on it because the next thing you knew he had his arms wrapped around you and his lips pressed against yours
it was a little... awkward
you hesitated a bit too long and he had begun to pull back when you finally reciprocated
awkward first kiss or not, it was still amazing
you were kissing kang daniel, fantasy man from another world
heh that sounded pretty cool
not that you’d ever tell him you thought that during your first kiss, he was already bashful enough around you
after that you officially started dating which was... sort of funny because he really had no clue what a boyfriend was supposed to do and was typically too formal
so seongwoo gave him “dating classes” which ended up with daniel attempting to be smooth and failing miserably which was even cuter than daniel being daniel
maybe it was because he was from unknown fantasy land but it really did feel like you’d managed to maybe find what people called a happy ever after
only time would tell

more than friends ♡ ethan
–requested by anon
“Yeah, I’ll see you in 10.” You tell your best friend Ethan on the phone, saying a quick goodbye and hanging up.
You and Ethan were going to hang out and get some ice cream, your favorite thing to do. You guys had been really occupied with school work lately and never got to hang out in person, only FaceTime calls. You and Ethan could not stand not talking to each other for a long period of time. Whenever you guys weren’t together, everyone could see the difference in your personalities and attitudes. For example, if you were invited to a party and Ethan couldn’t come, you’d be as quiet as a mouse. Now, if Ethan could come, that is a whole different story. You guys were like pieces of a puzzle, when you guys were together you were more complete, and everybody could tell that much.
Unfortunately though, you guys were just friends, although you wanted to be more. You didn’t know if he felt the same way, and you really didn’t want to mess up the relationship you had with Ethan. You guys have known each other for years, your parents even knew each other and always teased you both about how you two were going to get married someday. Ethan always seemed really uncomfortable in those situations, which led you to believe that he didn’t like you in that way. Which you were okay with, for now.
When your doorbell finally rang, you opened the door quickly and embraced Ethan in a tight hug.
“I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!” You yell and Ethan laughs,
“Y/N we FaceTimed each other like ten minutes ago.”
“So? That was ten minutes ago. Ten minutes is a long time.” You say and Ethan rolls his eyes. You stick your tongue out at him and grab your jacket, exiting your house and making your way towards Ethan’s car.
“You’re right. Ten minutes is a long time.” Ethan finally says when you get in the car and you look at him, “I mean, I could spend a whole day with you and still miss you when you leave.”
As he says that your eyes widen, surprised at what he said. Ethan had been acting weird all day, and now with that cheesy line, you knew something was up.
“E, are you okay?” You ask, placing your hand on his forehead as if you were checking him for a fever.
He swats your hand away and sighs, “Yeah, i’m good.”
“Okay, then let’s go get some dang ice cream!” You say and he smiles again, making you smile too.
The car ride to the ice cream shop was oddly quiet. You and Ethan always had something to talk about, even if it was something super strange and random, so now you were sure Ethan was hiding something.
When you guys finally got to the ice cream place and Ethan parked the car, just as he was about to get out you grab his hand.
“Ethan, you aren’t saying something. What’s up?” You ask with a serious tone in your voice and Ethan avoids looking you in the eye.
“Nothing, Y/N, drop it.” He says and attempts to get out of the car but you pull him back again,
“Ethan, I know you. Do not forget that I know you better then you know you. Tell me what you’re hiding.” You push and he rips his hand from your grip.
“Look I’ll tell you later. I don’t want to talk about it, okay?” He yells which startles you,and you just huff and lean back against your seat, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell…” He sighs and looks at you apologetically, “It’s just…complicated. Can we get ice cream now?”
“Yeah, sure.” You sigh and give him a small smile, knowing that whatever was on his mind was really stressing him out.
After you both order your ice creams and sit at one of the small tables, you start a conversation.
“Guess what!” You say with excitement in your eyes telling him the exciting news about your new project in class where you got to pick the subject and you chose one of your favorite tv shows, which makes Ethan smile.
“Y/N, can I ask for advice?” He asks you, taking a bit of his ice cream and then a bit of yours,
“Sure, about what?” You ask curiously, your main focus on your ice cream.
“There’s this girl. She’s amazing, really beautiful. Like, really beautiful. I like her a lot, but I don’t really know how to ask her out or even tell her that I like her. See, I’ve known her for a little while now and we’re super close…but i’m afraid she’d let me down.” He explains and you grin from ear to ear.
“Aw E, is that what you’ve been hiding?” You ask and he nods. You were a little sad that Ethan had feelings for someone else, but you were also really happy that he came to you for advice. You were happy for your best friend. “Well, I think you should just ask. You never know, maybe she does like you. Maybe she likes you even more than you like her, and she’s just playing it cool. Any girl would be lucky to have you as a boyfriend E!” You smile and this time he grins,
“And…What if the girl i’m talking about is you?” He says and you almost choke on your own spit,
You cough a little and reply with a simple, “Uh, what?”
“You’re the girl i’m talking about, Y/N. Isn’t obvious?” He asks and laughs nervously,
“That’s why you’ve been acting so weird!” You mumble and look up at him, only to see you staring back at you, expecting an answer.
“Lucky for you, I’ve liked you for a while.” You say in almost a whisper and his eyes widen, “I just didn’t want to mess up our friendship.”
“Y/N, we would have been dating by now if you would’ve said something!” He laughs and you roll your eyes,
“Does this mean we’re…dating?” You ask curiously and he shrugs,
“To be honest, we’ve been dating for a while and just called it being friends.” He replies and you laugh,
“True.” You say, “I’m glad you said something.”
“Me too…” He says and suddenly an awkward silence fills the room, “Because now that means I can do this,” He places a quick kiss to your lips and pulls away, a small smirk on his face as your eyes widen, shocked at the bold move he just made.
“I could totally get used to that.” You say standing up, getting ready to leave but before you do, placing tons of more kisses to Ethan’s soft lips.
“This is going to be fun.” Ethan laughs and you nod, agreeing. If everyone thought you two were dating then, they were definitely going to think you were dating now.
a/n – wow. long imagine + bad ending = imagine by carolina (sometimes) . hope you guys enjoyed. (p.s, I love replying to you guys so feel free to just drop random stuff in my inbox that I can reply to lol)

Does Vega ever ask Astra about Krypton? And what's Astra's reaction to the first time she has a tiny Kryptonian toddling at her at full speed happy to see her?
Previous parts
When Astra gets home later on her day to work late, Vega always comes charging towards her, shouting Ieiu! at the top of her lungs. Astra’s reaction is always the same, a swelling of her heart and warmth suffusing her being. She smiles and catches Vega as the little girl launches herself at Astra. It’s been their routine practically since Vega had just learned to walk. She feels as if there will never be any moment in her life that will ever match the moments where Vega runs to her, always happy to see her. That first time, will always stand out the most, though. She remembers almost crying after scooping a toddling Vega into her arms and holding her tight, knowing that she was doing something right if her daughter was happy to see her even after a short trip out to the grocery store. Now that Vega is older, just starting third grade, Astra wonders how long she has left of excited greetings, but she doesn’t trouble herself with that now.
“Inah, how was school today?” Astra asks, walking into the apartment further to see Alex finishing up dinner.
“It was good Ieiu, we had our times tables test today and I got it done before anyone else did. Then during reading time I finished the third Harry Potter book and Mommy had the fourth one all ready for me when I came home.” She bounced excitedly in Astra’s arms. “And Jenna invited me over for a sleepover this weekend, can I go?”
Astra looked over at Alex, communicating silently in that way that they had developed over the years. Vega had a good grip on her powers and they had no problem letting her go out with her friends and their parents, but she hadn’t stayed overnight anywhere just yet. She was starting to get that age, though, where sleepovers would be a very common event. They could wait a little longer, make sure that Vega was really ready to go, but that didn’t seem right. Vega was ready to go now. Both Alex and Astra nodded at each other.
“Sure, darling one, you can go. But I need Jenna’s mom’s phone number and address before this weekend, do you think you can get that for me?” Astra asked.
“Yeah, I can message her right now. Mommy can I have your phone?” She floated out of Astra’s arms and over to Alex who handed over the device and then she was typing away. “Oh, Ieiu, we got assigned a project in class today to map out our family tree and bring in a story from each side of the family. I already asked Mommy and she helped me set up everything, but can you help me after dinner?”
Astra swallowed. That would be difficult considering she was from a different planet, keeping everything normal enough so that no one would look twice at her little girl. She hadn’t kept it a secret from Vega that she was from Krypton, she even told her little harmless stories that held more laughter than pain, but when Vega asked herself about Astra’s home planet, Astra couldn’t control what was dredged up and she almost always came away from the exchanges aching for home. She wouldn’t ever deny Vega the information, though.
“Yes, I can do that, darling one.”
“Cool.” The phone in Vega’s hand vibrated. “Oh, here’s Jenna’s address and stuff.”
Astra took the phone and memorized everything with a glance. “Good, now go wash up for dinner.”
“Ieiuuuuu, do I have to?” She whined.
“Yup, get to it munchkin,” Alex said, pushing the floating girl towards the kitchen doorway.
Astra set the table quickly and dished out a huge portion for herself, a smaller one for Alex, and a decent sized one for Vega. She inhaled the scent of basil and oregano and Italian sausage and smiled. Lasagna was always a good choice for them considering it was cheap to make and filling. Alex slipped beside her to finish up everything, laying a kiss on Astra’s cheek.
“Welcome home, babe.”
Astra smiles at her and kisses her cheek as well. “It’s good to be home.”
Dinner passes easily, and the table is cleared with the efficency of two super speedy Kryptonians and before Astra really knows it they’re sitting down with Vega’s project in front of them, pictures of Alex and Astra already pasted in along with Kara, Jeremiah, Eliza, and Hank. Astra isn’t sure what she’s going to do about pictures for her parents. There are none, not anymore. But she picks up a pencil and pulls the paper towards her and starts to draw her parents.
“Your grandparents’ names were In-Ze and Vora Das-Xen,” she starts slowly, keeping her eyes on her drawing. Her parents are not an easy subject. “They were both well respected on Krypton, not quite on the level of the House of El, but they were up there. Their marriage was arranged like most of Krypton, but I believe they grew close as the years passed. By the time my sister Alura and I were born you couldn’t really tell that they hadn’t married for love, at least not on Krypton.” She took a deep breath. “My mother was not…the easiest woman to impress. She was a member of the Religious guild and as such saw anything that wasn’t obviously touched by the will of Rao as beneath her. My father was a hard man as well. He was a member of the High Council and never much liked me because my birth had jeopardized that position.”
Astra finished one picture, that of her father, staring at her from the paper with the hard eyes she always remembered, frown on his face, in his Council robes. She wrote out “Inze Jackson” beneath the picture. The name fit him well enough she supposed. She moved on to her mother.
“Twins were almost unheard of on Krypton. The Council viewed Alura’s birth as normal but mine as an aberration, rather arbitrarily. I was born second, that was their reasoning. They questioned the genetics of my parents and if they hadn’t been fit, which then led them to question if my father was fit to lead. My mother viewed it as a bad omen from Rao himself. It was not easy to grow up in such a house.”
She looked up to meet Vega’s eyes. “I’m so glad you never have to live in a household like that, darling one. I’m so glad that your mother and I love you to the moon and back.” She reached out and moved a piece of hair from Vega’s eyes. They were serious, listening to everything her mother told her quietly, in a way beyond her years.
“The only bright spot was my sister, who believed none of that. And here is the story you may take to school with you.” She smiled slightly. “Since Alura and I were identical, from a very young age we realized that we could switch places without anyone knowing. We did it for years and years until we were thirteen years old or so when we were finally caught. My parents were actually going to take me out with them to meet with some family friends, but I didn’t want to go, I didn’t like the friends. Alura didn’t mind them and volunteered to go in my place if I completed the math homework that she had been told to stay behind and finish. I agreed because math was much better than those friends, for sure, and so my day was rather uneventful until my parents and sister got back and then there was yelling. I found out later after Alura had come back to our room that she had stomped on the foot of one of my father’s friend’s older boys because he had started to tease her by calling my sister stuck up and prissy and a know it all. Of course she didn’t take kindly to that considering he was making fun of her to her face and that’s when the foot stomping happened. And then she launched into a speech about how she wasn’t stuck up or pissy at all, and that was when my parents walked over to see what the commotion was about. They put two and two together and realized that Alura wasn’t me and then of course hauled her back home. Nothing really came of it, though, she was yelled at, we were told to stop switching places, and that was that.”
Of course they hadn’t stopped, but the next time they were caught wasn’t so innocent. She reached up and stroked her white streak that from that next incident, to make sure they could pull no more switches. She took a deep breath, the ache in her chest flaring, thinking about her sister.
She finished the picture of her mother and moved on to sketching one of Alura herself. “If your teacher asks why there are no pictures, tell her that everything was destroyed in a house fire, ok darling one?”
Vega nodded once before floating over and hugging Astra hard. “I’m sorry Ieiu.”
Astra hugged her back. “Oh, darling, I’m not, not really. It got me here. It got me to you. And given a chance I would do it again. Because I love you that much and I love Mommy that much.” She pulled back. “That isn’t to say that it wasn’t hard, but sometimes, the best things are the ones that you have to go through a great deal to get, do you understand?”
“I think so,” she said after a long moment’s thought. “But only sort of.”
Astra lips quirked up. “I think that’s how it should be for now. Someday, however, you will know, not just yet, though.” She finished up Alura’s portrait and wrote below it “Alura Zorel” beneath it and with that she slid paper away from her. “Now, why don’t we go start the third Harry Potter movie now that you’ve finished your homework?”
Vega smiled and nodded. “Ok, that sounds cool. I’ll go put it in.” She shot off without another thought.
Astra sighed and looked back at the family tree in front of her. She felt raw and exposed, but she hadn’t lied to Vega. She would go through it all again just to get here, even if the thought of everything that got her here made her shiver and ache. She placed another paper on top of her parents’ faces and stood up. She wouldn’t have to relive everything, though. This was her now and this was what was important. She got up and walked into the living room.

Okay, so today was pretty interesting. Not quite according to plan, but not bad. I'm still having really mixed feelings about leaving tomorrow. Like I definitely have a feeling of guilt, almost? But also like, just kind of sadness, which I don't really understand. I mean, this is my life, this is what I do, and I want to get back to that. Leaving is nothing new, I was out the door as soon as I finished high school and I've been off ever since. I just....I don't know. I think it fits in with the whole false nostalgia for home thing I've been dealing with. Like where I'm nostalgic for a home and reality that doesn't exist, that's never been my reality- and when I come here I'm harshly reminded of how true that is. It's not that I don't love me family- of course I do, especially my sister. I love her more than anything in this world and I would give my life for her in a millisecond. But....living here just isn't good for me. There's too much that smacks of the past, the past where my life was so shitty and I had no hope at all of it getting better. Of course it did, but at that point I had no way of seeing that possibility. And it just tends to be too much when I'm back here with my brothers around, and they're still so callous to their behavior causing me any pain- great pain. And I just can't live in a place where I felt so unprotected, so vulnerable, for so long. There was nowhere I could run. They're not sorry because they don't believe they've done anything wrong. And if I told them, if I told them how much they've hurt me, they would laugh, especially if I got emotional. That's all they've ever done- driven me to tears and then laughed about it. My pain was never taken seriously. It was honestly one of the things that made me suicidal for so long, because as messed up as it sounds I wanted to make them sorry. I wanted them to have to believe they've done something wrong, something they can't just laugh away. And I know that doesn't make a whole lot of rational sense, I know, but it's really how I felt. Of course that was only one thing among many others that led me to that place for so long, but it definitely had an effect on me. Sigh....I'm ranting now because I never really talk about this stuff on here. It's just too hard to dredge up the past like this, to discuss the things that ruined my life for ten fucking years, to talk about what it's like to realize you want to die at 11 years old. It's just too much. So when people ask me why I want to work with abused kids, I never bring up my own experiences in the area. I don't talk about it, and it doesn't affect me really. It's fine. Maybe someday it'll be something I need to work through, but for right now I'm doing okay as I am. And I mean that, really- I wouldn't say it if I wasn't, where I am is so much better than where I used to be. I should stop now though, I don't know if there's much else I really want to say on the topic right here and right now. Sigh. That's just scratching the surface, really. There's a whole lot more underneath. But anyway. Today. I couldn't fall asleep for my life last night for no apparent reason, and I was up till at least like 5 am. Eventually I did fall asleep, and my alarm went off at 11. I was vaguely aware that it was snowing, but I wasn't really paying attention to it until I was dressed and went to find my brother to go and meet our cousin for lunch, and he was like "oh I meant to tell you, they cancelled because of the snow." Lol, thanks for the notification. Oh well. So I went back to sleep because I was tired, dammit. Well, I did manage to fall back asleep and woke up some time after 3, lol. Everyone was basically just roaming around the house because the snow was still coming down and it was fairly substantial at this point. So I made hot cocoa and oatmeal, and then set off to watch a movie with my sister. She chose 27 dresses, which we'd both seen before but it'd been a while. So we watched that. When we finished it was vaguely around dinner time, and my mom had made pizza using the cool little pizza oven they have, so we ventured out with the rest of the family and ate some pizza. While doing so my brother wanted me to read the directions of some game he bought called "secret hitler" that he potentially wanted to play but the instructions were like super confusing and complicated and it just wasn't working. I hung out there for a little while, and then went to watch identity thief with my sister. Strangely enough, this is the second Melissa McCarthy movie I've watched this break that is completely forgotten I'd seen before until I was watching it again, lol. The first one was Spy, and again I just remembered where the plot was going too easily to not have seen it before (I mean, I am really good at predicting movie plots, but still). It was funny though, I enjoyed watching it again and the ending was sweet. So yeah. After that I went back out with the rest of the family and basically just chilled, didn't really do anything besides make snide comments at the attempting to be comedic talk show host on Fox News that my parents were watching (my favorite was "coming up next we have a story so ridiculous you'll think Pinocchio wrote it" and I was just like "I'm pretty sure that's every story on Fox News" 😂😂😂). So that was vaguely amusing, and there was some casual legal conversation going on between my brother, my dad and I. And yeah, that was about it before I headed upstairs to get ready for bed. I've tried to prepare for leaving tomorrow and I think I've done a fairly good job, I can just throw the rest of it together before leaving tomorrow. My flight isn't until 3, so I'll have time to do such things. And then I'm back to Chicago to start classes. I won't start work until next week, which means I can sleep in all week which is very nice lol. I hope the fact that I slept till 3 today doesn't affect my ability to fall asleep now, but who knows what my body will do since it rarely ever makes rational sense. I should go attempt to do that now though, so I will adjourn things here. Goodnight dudes. Hope your winter weather was pleasant today.

Who’s afraid of Virginia Lee Johnson?
Virginia is a mom to two beautiful children and resides in Minnesota. Any spare time is spent watching TV, reading, facebooking and spending time with friends. She’s married to Thai Preyer PA 😉, yet owned by Kyle Perkins as his PA. *these two run my life* A love for reading and writing is a new concept for Virginia. Before the Twilight rave and a need to know the ending after Eclipse was released in theaters, Virginia preferred to watch the movie or convince a friend to read the book for her. Needing to know the story of a random homeless man that she encountered on a freeway exit ramp, was the only reason she began writing in the first place. Soulless Nights spawned from the unknown story and a dare from her friends.
Virginia has expanded her love for books by planning and hosting The Tampa Indie Author Book Convention. As a co-owner of The Indie Book Channel on YouTube, the opportunity to help others experience books and events that they otherwise couldn’t has helped her to share her passion for the Indie Community.
She has had the pleasure of working with some of her favorite authors. Street teams, beta reading and cover modeling were what led her to the world of writing. She currently PA’s for Kyle Perkins
Currently she has released Soulless Nights, Revenge; a short story within the anthology Doctrine of Indecency: 18 Coveted Tales of Lust, Vindicate, Seraphine’s ( With Julia Clare ) and Bound by an Echo ( With Julia Clare ), Expiate, Humanity’s Ark: Kepler (Kyle Perkins), Always; Never and a few funny books. Secondary Silence, Freeing Olivia (Ellen Wilder), and Soulless Days are current WIP’s, soon to be released.
=Nikki K get’s the skinny on Ginni=
I met Virginia, or Ginni as she is called, a few months back through some author friends. I didn’t know anything about her or her books but I was joining a group she was a part of and decided I needed to read one of her books. I picked Soulless Nights and was totally blown away. First it was a tad bit darker than I am used to but the storyline was something I had not read before and the twists were like, WOW! Any who, we began talking and I quickly decided that this chick was one of the funniest most irreverent people I’d met in a long time. She may also sleep less than me and be one of the hardest working people in the book world. Not only does she PA, Write, work a day job and she’s a mom, but she is also one of the first people to lend a hand to support others. The long and short of it, I became a fan of not only her writing but of the person behind the pen as well.
Q. First things first, if we’re meeting somewhere to conduct this interview, where would it be? (A park, bar, restaurant, your home, my home) A. Your hot tub, filled with ice… cause it’s hot as fuck where you live.
Q. What would be your drink of choice? I’m a vodka or Jameson gal myself. A. Mike’s Black Cherry Lemonade. I don’t drink often so buying a bottle would age. Not just age, my great grand kids would ask to use it for a history class artifact. (But when she does drink, bahaha. Let’s just say I have seen video!)
Q. If there’s food involved, what type would it be? A. Steak. No, boiled peanuts. And chocolate, not dark. The aftertaste is awful.
Q. Why do you write? What inspired you? A. Honestly, I wrote my first book because I spent an hour of time, that I’ll never get back, reading a book. I thought the plot was good, characters had potential but the execution was piss-poor to say it nicely. My inspiration was friends that were indie authors.
Q. Why did you start writing in the genre you chose? A. I love me a dark read. There is nothing like diving head first into a world that you want to believe doesn’t exist, with characters that couldn’t get away with their actions and twists that make you second guess humanity. I knew I belonged there – dark anything.
Q. How did becoming a published author change you or your life? A. I’ve made the best friends, traveled and have been able to share my imagination with the world. I mean, that’s kinda cool.
Q. Your books tend to lean towards the dark side (yes I’m being polite). What inspires you to write about the topics you do? A. Reality and reflection. The reality is that the world is dark. Bad things happen all of the time. Reflection on what would you do about it, if given the chance? I wrote that story.
Q. In Souless Nights you deal with the topic of Sex trafficking/slavery. Where did that idea come from? A. I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out why he was homeless. Cardboard sign and all, begging for money, I couldn’t get him out of my mind. In short, I decided that he was a detective, searching for the love of his life that he had met 5 years earlier, while homeless. This inadvertently brought me to sex trafficking and the real existence of it. Save the girl or lose everything.
Q. What are you working on now? A. My priority is Secondary Silence, a paranormal romance. I really wanted to avoid the stigma of paranormal but a vampire was necessary. Don’t worry, no glittery facade or super speed. Lol. Like, really? Anyways… Ashley is a ghost, assigned to assist Thad (the vamp). I know it’s pnr, but I’ve graphically killed soooooo many people already, it may need to find itself in a horror genre. We shall see😉
Q. Which of your books/series was your most fun to write? A. F*CK, SH*T and M**ST Is this even a for real question? Maybe this isn’t a for real answer. Lol. They were fun to write tho. Kepler: Humanity’s Arc was another fun one. My co author kept me on my toes and the edge of my seat with every chapter. Twas fun!
Q. Is there a recurring theme that runs through your books? Why is this important to your writing? A. My female characters grow into their strengths through the story. Aspen is my only character that was a badass to begin with, a force to be reckoned with. Vindicate showcased the inner beauty of a strong woman that knew what she wanted. Vindicate was a very easy book to write.
Q. If you were interviewing your favorite character from your book what’s the one question you would like to ask them? What would the answer be? A. To Ethan from Vindicate and Expiate – Me : “Will you die already?” Him : “No.”
Q. What genre would you love to write but don’t think that you would do it justice? A. Contemporary Romance. Lol. I tried. It was painful to bang out Bound by an Echo.i love the book, readers LOVE the book. Writing a romance was exhausting. I can’t do it.
Q. What is the one thing you would like readers to know about you? A. All of my characters are a piece of myself, my friends and my fans. No character is an unknown entity, developed from pixie dust and suddenly appears. Someone in my life created a character, without knowing it.
Q. What is your writing process? Do you have scheduled times you sit down and just start writing? Or is it more like when inspiration strikes you pick up a pen or keyboard? A. Inspiration strikes. 9/10 I stare at the screen until I realize I’ve typed enough random words to make a sentence. It’s bad.
Q. Do you write longhand or do you prefer a computer? A. Always my computer. I’m lazy AF. Doing the same job twice would be the death of me.
Q. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what book would you pick. A. Thoughtless by SC Stephens.
Q. Can you share a fun/funny story about being a writer? Maybe an interaction with a fan or a mishap while writing? A. Eh… I fell asleep on my keyboard once. Had 48 pages of k’s. I wrote a book with Kyle Perkins. It’s about the planet, Kepler. Mind you, we have been talking about this book for a year when we started writing it in full force. Finally, one day near chapter 7 or so, he tells me, “You know the sky would be more red than blue, right?” I reply with, “Does it matter? We’re writing a book.” I was so pissed when I found out KEPLER IS A REAL PLANET! I had rules to follow. He thought it was hilarious and that I was an idiot, but still. It was pretty funny.
Q. Why did you decide to self published, instead of reaching out to traditional publishers? A. I don’t follow rules well. I kill to many people, thrust into someone too many times, blood splatter was too wide… yeah, I had a character use a (removed) cock as a paintbrush. I am not the publishers dream candidate. Maybe someday.
Q. What is the hardest part about being an author? A. Conformity. I’ll never be like everyone else. I’ve tried the things that work for others and they don’t work for me. It’s hard to be yourself in this world.
Q. Have you ever thought about giving up writing? If so why? A. Yes. Why? Sometimes you want to disappear as if your story has been told. Then, as if they were stalking you, a fan or fellow author sends that much needed message, asking for the rest of a story. That’s when I know my story is just beginning.
Q. We often hear the writers barely break even on their books. If this is true, why do it? A. It’s absolutely true. No question. Being an indie author isn’t a money making gig. It’s not a get rich fast technique and the fact that people think we have spending money from this, blows my mind. This is why indie authors are disappointed in those that don’t take the art seriously. Few of us are lucky enough to have a cover designer, editor, graphic designer, formatter and marketing on call. All of that costs a fortune. No joke. Hundreds of dollars before you buy it for $0.99. In short, we need you sell 1500 copies at $0.99 to break even at a $500 cost. Unfortunately, most indie authors sell 5-10 books in a good week. Why do I do it? I do it for me. I’m proud of accomplishing something that I had never dreamed of. I look at a finished book and think, I did this. Just as quickly I think, What’s next? It’s a vicious circle that has little monetary gain.
For shits and giggles. Q. What is your favorite word? A. Fuck
Q. What is your favorite dirty word. A. Fuck
Q. What is your least favorite word? A. M**st…. Not even spelling it. Lolol
Q. Is there a world we will NEVER find in your writing? A. Historical. Not happening.
Q. What is your favorite naughty toy? A. Time. Lol
Q. Which of your books would you like to be real so you could live in it? And why? A. Kepler: Humanity’s Ark – wouldn’t it be cool as fuck to live on another planet that is capable of sustaining human life? I wanna see that. The world Kyle developed and created in the book sounds beautiful.
Q. I know you have a male writing partner, would you ever consider writing a M/F HEA with him? A. Kepler was written M/F. We had discussed, soon after Kepler released, possibly doing an Urban Fantasy. That might be capable of a HEA. Who knows. He’s more capable of writing it than I am. Although, he doesn’t have many HEA’s either.
