reading sources about the internet and its impact on culture for an english paper and yeah this is super interesting but the problem is that half of the sources that google scholar is spitting out of the search function are from 1995 which isn't that long ago in regular years but considering that the highest grossing social media platform (facebook) wasn't launched until 2004 (nine years later) then i don't think those are the most relevant sources for what i'm trying to find

#to specify i'm mostly looking for the impact of *social media* on modern culture #since social media is one of the most common usages of the internet in this day and age #and fortunately / unfortunately tumblr is one of two sm platforms that i use consistently #(other being pinterest)#and tumblr internet culture is vastly different from other sm internet culture #technically all sm platforms have their own weird culture #but if i want to look at modern cultural change then i'm going to have to look at the more popular platforms #which i have no firsthand experience of using and therefore cannot make an accurate deduction of their cultures #or their impacts on culture #i think twitter and tiktok are the most fascinating examples but facebook and youtube are also important #yes tumblr has an impact #whether it be through jokes copy pasted onto a tiktok #or just someone that uses multiple platforms consistently #but the primary communities on tumblr are typically very niche so tumblr culture normally doesn't travel beyond tumblr #idk this is my weird little culture rant idk what i'm talking abt #i'm mildly interested in sociology and sociolinguistics
