Upon getting the TCSS soldier that she had pinned with a tree situated for processing, Shale made her way back to the base. First stop, the med bay. She could easily move around with her burn she had sustained, but the idea of it getting infected was not something she desired. Her plan had been to get in and get out to go rest. It was a short lived idea.
Word that Silas had crashed moments before going into surgery, and Oron having also gone in as well with less-than-ideal prospects, put her on edge. Had she been too late? Was she about to lose her leader and her mentor in one day? The thought brought panic to her heart. No no no no no no.. She couldn’t do anything to help them! No no no no...
Wait..!
Her thoughts briefly went to a conversation she had had with Silas a day before the battle. She very clearly recalled the presence of two rocks behind his desk. Her curiosity had burned about them, leading her to ask about their presence. Silas’ answer had been casual- stating that one was a gift from a friend and another was a gift from Mothra. Something to do with a healing factor.
That was it!
Before even being seen for treatment, Shale took off for her commander’s office. She moved at an all out sprint down the halls, skidding around corners and taking the steps 4 at a time until she reached the door. Despite knowing it was locked, she tried the handle and rattled it. In her desperate movements, her key card, tucked away in a pocket on her hip, touched the reader and the lock clicked open.
The engineer didn’t bother to stop and think about it as she entered and vaulted over his desk to grab the stone Mothra had gifted. Just a small piece ground up and mixed with water, right? Great! She could offer this to both Silas and Oron! Grunting, she tried to pry a piece off with no success. And so she resorted to biting. Several moments passed as she desperately gnawed before several fragments finally crumbled free. Unaware she had swallowed a bit of the stone herself, she collected two pebbles and raced back to the med bay.
To her dismay, she wasn’t allowed into either quite, despite her pleas and explanation of the resource. All she could do was wait and pace. During the wait, several higher ranking operatives came by to ask her questions or get orders from her. Why? She didn’t know, but she did oblige. During the agonizing 15 hour wait she paced, or drank water or fidgeted. All throughout, she tried to combat a light layer of dizziness and exhaustion. That was just post battle stuff, right? She could ignore it for now.
As soon as Silas was moved to recovery, she spotted one of Sani’s holoforms and approached her. “Sani, Silas and Oron need this now. It’s from Mothra and could help them recover faster. Please.”

The atmosphere of the base was, in a word, tense. Dennis almost felt like he could choke on the air itself due to how high tensions were, but he didn’t complain about it or even dare call it out. Things were already stressful enough in the aftermath of the final battle between M.E.C.H. and the TCSS. Making a complaint or even idle conversation while Jaden Pierce escorted him through the halls, towards the medical wing, would be just asking for trouble since the “No Kids On Base” rule was still technically in effect. Pierce though, as one of the acting commanders, was enacting another exception on Dennis’ behalf. The kid wanted/needed to see Silas and there was no way that could be done outside of the base in current times.
"Take as long as you need,” Pierce murmured as he opened the door to Silas’ room, his voice soft but heavily filtered by his mask, “I got the door and if anyone’s got an complaints about you, I’ll handle it. Okay?”
Dennis nodded, unsure of how he should respond to his uncle, and slipped into the room as quick as he could so no one could spot him. As soon as the door clicked shut though, leaving him alone with the commander, he wanted to turn tail and run.
Hospital rooms had never bothered him before. The sterile environments did aggravate his senses sometimes, but they never struck fear into his heart or left him feeling on edge. They were normal to him - as ordinary as any other room. However, something about seeing Silas-- Gramps worse for wear, barely holding on, and out cold had Dennis feeling like he needed to run for the hills.
He swallowed around the lump in his throat and slowly made his way over to the commander’s bedside, pulling up then sitting down in a chair. “Hey Gramps.” His voice was as hushed as his uncle’s and he tried to smile at the sleeping figure but soon dropped the expression when - unsurprisingly - there was no reaction from the other. “You, uh, you really took a hit, huh?” Dennis waited out of instinct and when nothing but the heart monitor responded to him, he sighed. “I guess.. I guess you take the cake on getting the worst injuries from Achim, huh?” Still nothing but silence and a soft, steady, slow beep responded to him. “That was stupid. I’m sorry.”
Minutes ticked by before Dennis could find the strength to talk again.
“I-- ...I’m really sorry I made everything worse for you. I know Judas says nothing's really my fault, and that it was all Achim’s fault for being a dick, but-- I still got involved. I got caught and I got hurt over and over again and I just kept getting into trouble and made everything worse and I’m sorry.” His voice waivered with emotion and when Dennis felt himself about to cry he stopped, choking back his sobs for the moment then recomposing himself before speaking again. “I’m really sorry, and I really hope you wake up cause I don’t want you to die because of me. And I know that’s so stupid of me to say cause we’re enemies. We’re supposed to be enemies but.. We’re not, are we?” It was debatable whether the noise Dennis made then was a laugh or a sob. Perhaps a combination of both. “We’re friends. Or at least, you’re my friend. I’m probably just a dumb, shitty kid who makes a lot of trouble for you but...” After catching himself mid-ramble, Dennis took a deep breath and wicked his thumb across his tears, wiping away a few tears.
“Just-- Please wake up soon. Okay?”

I stumbled across this medium and found your but on Corran Horn and the like. I’ve been obsessed with the character and of course his lightsaber design for years. Yes, I’m aware of GCS/Madcow’s version that I see you have perfectly captured. My question is what is your solution to the black rubber emitter grill? I’ve made a few versions of that saber of my own but the dang grill I can’t source. I’ve ask Rob throughout the years and he buttons up. Could you share where you found yours?
Hello! Thanks for reaching out - you're actually my first ever ask!
In answer to your question, I had the piece 3D Printed. I don't have a printer, so I approached a friend and had him print it in a couple of different iterations. Eventually we settled on the version you see now. It was printed in 2 pieces, with (if I remember correctly) 24 'teeth' so it would be simpler to cut in half, as it were.
To give it that rubberized look, I just hit it with a couple coats of some Rustoleum truck bed liner. I actually did the same with the small plastic caps you see on the ends of the TCSS claw holder. It's not super durable, but I rarely hold the saber by the neck anyway.
