I know ACOTAR is like the book that no one reads anymore, because feyre x tamlin is horrid and unbearable etc etc, but it makes me sad because acotar had so many good interactions.
Like yes it had a ‘beauty and the beast’ kinda vibe and was your very typical romance fanasty YA novel and you can argue the series only got so popular because of the twist in acomaf (the girl normally just has ridiculously flirty banter with the not-actually-evil hot bad boy and doesn’t actually, y’know, get with him) but it was still good. We still had good things.
ACOTAR feyre is genuinely my favourite feyre, because she’s a little cold, and a little snappy but she’s got passion and she’s caring and she doesn’t fall into typical romance tropes but also doesn’t have this irritating ‘I’m not like other girls’ aura.
We had tamlin not being an utter piece of shit! Yes he was a little bland and had moments that made me think ‘watch that temper’ and ‘you are like 500 you should know what consent is’ etc etc but he was also delightfully awkward and got exasperated by Lucien and feyre’s antics instead of, y’know, screaming at them, or hitting them, or threatening them with magic and locking them in the house.
You could see a friendship between him and Lucien that was funny and loyal and sweet and actually made you feel like tamlin cared about his people and friends and lover. You also had this nice air of mystery because all these random fae from ✨ other unknown courts ✨ kept showing up.
You had sassy lucien, and that’s enough for me to wish I could reread it normally without going ‘oh my god this so weird she’s kissing tamlin?’ and ‘I wonder what helion was thinking during the second trial. Do you think he felt something? I can’t read this’ and ‘OH MY GOD IT’S LOVE FEYRE THE ANSWER IS LOVE YOU ARE IN A YA FANTASY NOVEL FOR GOD’S SAKE-‘
