Exposing SVSSS Fanon: 7/∞
SHEN YUAN WAS A SOCIALLY AWKWARD, INTROVERTED SHUT-IN BY NATURE
Rating: FANON - UNSUPPORTED
The common depiction of Shen Yuan in fanworks is that he was an antisocial shut-in who never left his room, spending all day reading and commenting on webnovels, and always focused on his computer or phone screen or a book. This is frequently coupled with the depiction of Shen Yuan as chronically ill, as something caused by this illness, but it is also generally used even when such illness is not featured, likely as part of the stereotype of someone chronically online who has the time to spend on making long-winded comments on online forums and reading a 20 million word novel in a short span of time.
However, while canon does not directly state otherwise, the depiction of SY!QQ's personality conflicts with this interpretation and portrays him on multiple occasions as someone who enjoys going out into the world, exploring, and interacting with others, to the point where it is used to deliberately contrast his nature with Shen Jiu's:
At the same time, how could he not want to go out and play? Up until now, he’d been hunkered down inside Qing Jing Peak’s Bamboo House, forced to fake being an awesome master of arts and literature, meaning everything he did had to be done “blandly”: blandly speaking, blandly laughing, blandly practicing the sword, blandly being a poser—bland to the point that he often had the urge to scatter a handful of salt over his head! What a damn pain! And now when he finally got a break to take a trip down the mountain, he was still trapped in his room because of the System’s stance that “the original Shen Qingqiu liked quiet and would be unwilling to mingle.” (7S Ch. 2)
During the years that Luo Binghe is in the Abyss, Shen Qingqiu spends most of his time off the mountain:
During these three years, other than occasionally asking Liu Qingge for assistance in clearing his meridians to treat his poison, requesting medicinal prescriptions from Mu Qingfang, and briefly visiting Qing Jing Peak to arrange leveling missions for his disciples, Shen Qingqiu spent most of his time wandering about the outside world. He passed the days leisurely until an urgent notice from Yue Qingyuan arrived to suddenly summon him back to Cang Qiong Mountain. (7S Ch. 6)
For someone who is a shut-in, especially when fearing (what he thinks is) his inevitable death, it would be far more likely that Shen Qingqiu would shut himself inside the bamboo house as much as possible. Instead, he copes by going out and exploring the world.
After he wakes up in his mushroom body, instead of going off to hide away in seclusion somewhere (which would have been in line with a shut-in, antisocial personality), he instead thinks to immediately try to establish relations with the demon realm:
The first step to starting his all-new life would, of course, have to be proceedings with which Shen Qingqiu was most familiar. First, for a prop, he needed a folding fan, one with a white silk base, decorated with an ink wash painting of mountains and rivers. Shen Qingqiu snapped the fan open and waved it before his chest, sending his long hair and whiskers flying. Perhaps his image wasn’t ideal and was slightly unsuited to said prop, but that didn’t matter. With a folding fan in hand / Badass act at my command... ...this actually opened up a new line of thought. These minor demons had never dared to do more than snoop and thieve here and there. But if he could supply them with an honest channel for small goods, perhaps within this world that revolved around cultivation and monster-fighting, he could forge paths into a new frontier based on farming and amassing capital? Shen Qingqiu irresponsibly fantasized for a while, then felt that if he were to accept underlings, they needed to understand each other’s cultural practices. (7Seas Ch. 9)
He has established good relations with his martial siblings and frequently spends time with them:
Whenever the sect siblings from Cang Qiong Mountain got together, the conversation never stopped, and any little remark could get played on forever. But today, their conversation was extremely short. They usually headed off to Zui Xian Peak to have a meal together... (7Seas Ch. 32)
He even goes so far as to invite Shang Qinghua to visit Qing Jing Peak, before he is aware that SQH is a transmigrator:
“They were harvested from the tea fields of my senior disciple Ming Fan’s family,” Shen Qingqiu said affably. “As for whether they’re high-quality, won’t Shang-shidi know if he comes for tea at Qing Jing Peak?” (7Seas Ch. 26)
Instead of simply hiding away in a house while waiting for Luo Binghe to recover from his deaging, Shen Qingqiu instead goes to get a teaching job:
Shen Qingqiu soon got so bored that his bones began to itch, so he casually took up work at the largest academy in the city. (7Seas Ch. 28)
Throughout the novel, Shen Qingqiu's characterization is consistently established as someone who gets bored when he is forced to stay in one place and do nothing. Unless there is someone providing him with adequate companionship (he didn't travel as much when LBH was on Qing Jing Peak, for example), or he is indisposed in some way, Shen Qingqiu is almost always going out to explore the world and meet people.
Because of the way that he is stressed and bored when stuck inside, and how he goes out to cope with that, it's fairly easy to say that Shen Yuan/Shen Qingqiu is an extroverted person.
Now, does this completely deny the possibility that he was a shut-in in his former life? Not necessarily. It does, however, make it far more likely that he is not a shut-in by nature, and that if he did spend all day in his room, it was likely due to some other factor, such as depression.
Shen Qingqiu is characterized as an extroverted person with an attractive personality, and while his internal monologue can be at times somewhat awkward, the way he is perceived by others is not so. He expresses no desire to hide away in his room all day and becomes unhappy if he has to. He likes to go out and experience new things and meet new people.
The idea that for no other reason than his personality Shen Yuan spent all his time in his room or was antisocial in any way is not supported by canon, and in fact there is far more evidence to the alternative.

CLOTHING MAKES THE (WO)MAN Do their bra and panties match consistently? Yes | No | Not applicable Senritsu is a "its my favorite colour, it fits"-person, so usually bra/bustier and panties fit, because its all some shade of pink even if its not a set. Do they wash their makeup off before going to bed? Yes| Sometimes | No |  Not applicable Do they wear socks? Yes | No What do they usually wear to bed? Nothing | Undergarments | Old T-Shirt | Pajamas | Whatever they were wearing that day | Tomorrow’s clothes Are they – Fashion over function | Function over fashion | Trendy but values function too Senritsu would say that the way she dresses is trendy, but she also thinks the oversized Musicband-T-Shirts she wears for sleeping are the true manifestation of "very cool". Their clothes are usually… Stained | Raggedy | Like new | Well worn | A oddly source of frustration for Senritsu is that she is too short for moth clothes, so she has to shop occaisonally in the childrens-department. Accordingly if she finds something that fits her and that is not violently cluttered with rhinestones, cartoon-characters, and glitter, she will hold on to it for dear life until it falls appart. Also her trousers and vest are actually craftman-working-cloth, so it is in the sense of the clothes to be worn out for its better to have a hole in the trousers than a saw stuck in your leg.
FINANCES? LET’S SEE How do they handle their money? Blows through the entire paycheck | Sets some money aside, spends the rest as needed over time | Holds onto it as long as possible, spending here and there | Lives past their means As a Hunter Senritsu earns well, insanely well even. However, she also has the same problem as most Hunters: Just because she earns well does not mean that she actually uses the money for herself. Senritsu usually sets money aside for her nieces (unknown to anyone but her older sister) and is giving most of her money to the Art-Museums and Music-schools she had been working for before (well known fact and probably mentioned on her Hunter-Page). How do they handle their bills? Sets aside bill money each cheque | Pays them right away | Pays them last minute | They’re frequently overdue It is not that Senritsu deliberately forgets to pay her bills. she just has a tendency for obsessing over her work when she is working as a Music-Hunter so it is very likely for her to just drop off the end of the knowing world for three months without beeing able to be reached when she is hired to restore an old Music-instrument , or she is tasked to record the singing of a certaine animal in the middle of wilderness far away from any civilisation, so bills are not important compared to that. What are they most likely to buy? Food | Clothes | Hobby supplies | Work supplies | Trinkets | Movies | Games | Bills | Spend it on others (loved ones) | Charity | Books | Alcohol | Drugs | Technology
AN APPLE A DAY How often do they get exercise? Frequently, as a hobby | Frequently, from work | Somewhat, from a hobby | Somewhat, from work | Never Do they drink? Always | Often | Somewhat | On rare occasions | Never Senritsu had not been drunk since the night Ask had played the Sonata of Darkness and she never will be again. Occaisonally she will drink a after-work-beer with Basho or if she feels fancy, she will drink a glass of wine when having a official dinner for work or wth friends. But it will never go over that one beerbottle or wineglass. However, Senritsu has the strict rule that she will not make any big decisions when she has alcohol in her system, so if she is on a date and drinks that wineglass, that date is ending with a kiss on the cheek and nothing more but a pat on the shoulder. Do they do drugs of any kind? Yes | Sometimes | No Her best friend at work is Basho and that guy has probably a degree in chemistry, considering he invented the recipe for "Clean Leaf" and has this recipe on his "Hunter Page" for free usage to make sure his friends (and other people) are not messing with their health while dabbling in drugs. Once a week, when work allowes it Basho packs a poem-book, beer and his fishing-untensils in a bag, tucks Senritsu under one arm and drives with the train to the nearest clean lake where they settle for the day, drink, fish and probably smoke a joint. Do they smoke? Yes | Sometimes | No Cigarett smoke is bad for the voice, Senritsu would not risk that.
EDUCATION MATTERS What education have they reached? None | Elementary/Primary | Middle/Secondary | High/Tertiary | College, bachelors (dependent) | College, masters (dependent) | GDA | Workforce training | Senritsu herself said that "Studying was never her strong suit"- Which obviously for one was thanked to the fact that her undiagnosed Dyslexia in combination with only going to school through online-classes in the first twelve years of her life made school hell for her but also because Senritsu is not doing well in strictly academical learning-enviorments. The highest degree Senritsu has is her "master craftman's certificate" (Meisterbrief) for building wind instruments (although she had teached herself also in other categorys and works in restoring and building any kind of instrument with and for clients), but academically she sat in school until the exact second she turned eighteen and then ran as fast as she could without ever turning back. Metaphorically speaking- the Musicschool on which she had studied from age twelve to eighteen is on the list of her frequent employers, so she did looked back in that manner. Independent study Do they frequently learn new skills? Yes | On occasion | Only as needed | Not usually Senritsu is a very keen student when the topic interests her and it is the nature of her work to always learn more and widen her skillset. In fact, free from school Senritsu is eager to learna s much about her interests as possible and when she is not needed to listen to anyone she usually listens to a audiobook about history, a musicians biography, travel-logs, etc... How do they learn best? Visually | By ear | Hands-on | Logically | Socially | On their own

Fun Spread by Video Games For Kids
Creating an excellent and thrilling playroom for your child will be a number of fun however there are a few things to remember as you get started. Most mother and father begin the venture with a few concepts they know they'd wish to see in a playroom. Most frequently, the primary wish of oldsters is to create a space where they can include and retailer nearly all of their kids's toys.
Storage options tackle many types in a children's playroom. For example, a room can comprise something from constructed-in cabinets to decorative shelving to toy packing containers. You may even add a particularly cool kids locker for storing anything from jackets and hats to footwear or sports gear. Whereas confining muddle to 1 room may be the main goal for parents in creating a playroom, the number one objective for children relating to their playroom is a enjoying an excellent play space. Creating that perfect play house is usually a problem however there are a couple of easy tips to keep in mind to create the best possible play area to your youngsters.
The very first thing to remember is not any overcrowding. It may be very tempting to put means too many toys into a playroom but the extra toys, the more overwhelming the area might be to a child. On this case, minimal is often best. When you have a lot of toys for your little one to play with, or there are toys you do not wish to give away or throw out, consider rotating totally different toys in and out of the playroom every few weeks. This provides selection without overstimulating your baby.
The second thing to keep in mind is to tailor the room to the interests of your little one. In case your baby is into football, take into account creating a sports activities theme with wall artwork and equipment. If your baby loves animals take into account buying equipment and toys with this theme. Some of your child's favorite hobbies may be spotlighted, giving the child a particular place to enjoy.
The third thing to bear in mind is to create activity particular areas. Have a nook containing an artwork easel and paint or a reading area with a bookcase, rugs and throw pillows. Consider incorporating toys that encourage pretend play, equivalent to a puppet theater, a play kitchen or a tent. Kids thrive on routine and understanding what to anticipate of their play area and the place to count on it'll present nice construction to their play time. Ensure that to depart loads of open ground space for working puzzles or racing vehicles.
One other thing to keep in mind is utilizing child sized furnishings and accessories. Play tables and chairs designed specifically for children are great additions to a playroom. Practice tables and activity tables are additionally simply the suitable scale for your child.
All of us need our kids to do nicely. That is why we ship them off to lessons to explore art, sports activities, music, etc. We encourage them to try out for sport groups and college-sponsored shows and occasions. We spend our exhausting-earned cash to get them involved in things we feel will help them discover and pursue their natural skills extra. Nonetheless, what usually occurs is we stop too soon. As quickly as we see our kids fail or lack the talent to grasp one thing rapidly, we tend to steer them away from it altogether and sometimes stroll away. In reality, what number of times have you heard mother and father say, "they only aren't good at it" or "they weren't born with it?" Sadly this is typically the case.
What most mother and father don't understand is that expertise is one thing our children don't need to be born with. Talent is developed over time through practice. Dad and mom are so conditioned to believe that they want an inborn gift for a particular discipline and if it isn't farm animals instantly clear that their baby possesses that reward, they offer up. It's important for fogeys to let their youngsters know that anybody can do anything, they just must put their mind to it and never surrender too rapidly. Apply, not expertise is often the secret to success.
It is important to perceive that follow and effort are extra essential than expertise. Too typically as soon as a child initially fails dad and mom feel it implies that the child has insufficient talent and should due to this fact surrender. The opposite is true. That is when you need to practice more so you'll be able to master it. Parents ought to encourage their youngsters to proceed on and dedicate the time to do well. It is usually important to inspire them. A dad or mum and coach's function makes a difference in a child's confidence level. Analysis exhibits that those children and college students who were praised for their efforts rather than their expertise improved their efficiency by 30%.
So what exactly is expertise? Expertise is the ability to attain ranges of performance that most people can not attain or certainly come close to. This level of excellence is seen in all fields of the humanities, sports activities, science and literature. In truth, Geoff Colvin discusses a study of musical expertise conducted by a group of researchers lead by John Sloboda on the College of Keele in England in his e book. They studied 257 students who had been launched to music. They were categorised into 5 capacity teams. The highest group was admitted by aggressive audition to a music faculty; the lowest group of students tried an instrument for at the least six months, however then had to give it up. The researchers interviewed the students and their mother and father in detail. After they examined the extent of accomplishment of the scholars, they did not find evidence of precocious musical capacity even in the top group.
However, the one factor they did discover that made a difference was how lengthy they practiced. For college students to be admitted to the elite college of music it took a total of 1,200 hours of follow. By age 12 the scholars in the elite group practiced a median of two hours per day compared to fifteen minutes of observe a day in the lowest group. The elite pupil practiced eight instances longer every day. So it does go to show that apply makes the distinction in success.
This was also explored in a e-book by Matthew Syed within the chapter "What is Talent." It was mentioned that "An investigation of British musicians, for instance, discovered that the highest performers had discovered no quicker than those that reached lower ranges of attainment: hour for hour, the assorted teams had improved at almost similar rates. The distinction was merely the highest performers had practiced for extra hours."
And you can't neglect most likely one of the biggest examples, Mozart. Mozart began composing at five, gave public performances at eight, and produced lots of of works, a few of that are extensively acclaimed, before he died at 37 years of age. Mozart's father, Leopold Mozart, was also a famous composer and performer and importantly an impressive music teacher, who no doubt inspired his son to work arduous, hold making an attempt, and follow, observe, follow. Mozart's first work that was thought to be a masterpiece was his Piano Concerto No.9, which he composed when he was twenty-one. Although twenty-one is young, Mozart had been coaching extremely onerous for eighteen years. Certainly his accomplishments weren't the result of innate genius, but the product of nearly 20 years of extremely laborious work.
Another true instance of perfection being the Miami Dolphins season in 1972 after they gained each sport together with, after all, the Tremendous Bowl. They have been coached by Don Shula who coached "over studying" to the gamers. It concerned over preparation leading to limiting the variety of objectives players labored on, cutting down on players observe errors, making gamers master their assignments so they might operate on auto-pilot, and working on a philosophy of steady improvement. The players would complain "not one of the groups practice this hard" or "different groups do not put on pads this typically of their practices." The philosophy was that you play at the degree of your follow and definitely that 12 months follow made good.
So how a lot follow do you want? Matthew Syed is quoted as saying, "In depth research it seems has give you a very specific reply to that question from artwork to science and from board to tennis. It has been discovered that a minimum of ten years is required to achieve world-class status in any complicated job." It additional states, "An analysis of the highest nine golfers of the twentieth century confirmed that they received their first international competition at round twenty-five years of age, which was, on average, greater than ten years after they started golfing.
The identical finding has been found in fields as diverse as arithmetic, tennis, swimming and lengthy-distance working. The same is also true in academia. In a study of the one hundred twenty most vital scientists and 123 most well-known poets and authors of the nineteenth century, it was found that ten years elapsed between their first work and their finest work. Ten years, then is the magic quantity for attainment of excellence.
What does this imply for parents? It exhibits that folks do a disservice to their youngsters once they give-up too rapidly. Let your children find something they enjoy doing, allow them to practice and practice and see all they will accomplish. It takes quite a lot of arduous work and deliberate apply and there are not any quick cuts, however the principle factor that will drive them is a passion for what they're doing. If they love no matter they are engaged in, that love and the passion, more than makes up for the sacrifices.
The superhero birthday party idea is a great all spherical enjoyable child's party theme appropriate for each boys and girls. Dressing up shouldn't be a problem, discovering superman capes or bat lady masks could not be simpler. Child's party video games are easy to create and modify just a little to go just right with the superhero theme birthday celebration idea.
You can begin having enjoyable together with your superhero celebration concept right from sending out the party invites. Go to youngsters's fans websites to really see what you possibly can do along with your superhero themed birthday party concept. Many websites could even provide birthday invitation templates to fill in and print and well as suggesting quite a lot of kid's birthday celebration video games to make the big day an enormous success.
Adorning to your superhero celebration idea can be probably much more fun for the parents than the occasion itself. Effectively maybe not as a lot fun as the youngsters celebration video games, however virtually. You may make the table fabric by sticking older comedian journal pages over giant paper sheets. Cans of "silly string" are too much fun to spray round the home or the yard; you could possibly depart these out for the older youngsters to spray themselves. I do not advocate giving baby aerosol propulsion cans although, leave this job up to the massive children (if they could probably do this without having silly string fights, the temptation may be a bit too much to resist) or do it yourself then rigorously get rid of the empty cans.
As for the remainder of the decorations you could get a little creative digging into the Halloween decoration assortment for Spiderman and Batman. Or get artful and make some tall Styrofoam buildings for Superman, and search for some good quaint green slime goo and paint some rocks in lime inexperienced paint for kryptonite.
You may get very artistic when planning the child's party video games for the superhero celebration thought. For the sports activities enthusiastic boys you may create a superheroes impediment course. For something much less strenuous you might attempt the X-Ray vision recreation, merely blindfold them and have then guess an object you out into their hands.
If your actually keen for one thing to maintain them amused while you are inclined to the other duties, like cake, if having a Superman social gathering attempt a game of discover the joker, i.e. cover particular person playing cards spherical the house or the lawn and promise a value to the kid that brings within the joker.
On the events end you could possibly show the great photographs of the day in the form of a comic strip. Think about the fun you and your little one might have creating the script for the sketch together and speaking in regards to the occasions of the occasion.
Now it could be worth remembering that superheroes do generally get somewhat boisterous and on the end of a protracted days social gathering the BAMs and KERPOWs don't get any quieter, particularly after just a few kryptonite cups, so I counsel you benefit from the occasion additionally to make all of it worthwhile.
Then when Superman is sleeping you may relax and remind yourself that you've got a complete 12 months earlier than having to do it over again. They are seriously not kids for long sufficient take pleasure in every minute of it with them and cherish the recollections your superhero birthday celebration idea will deliver you both.

Secular Muslims celebrate International Yoga Day
Are you in India today?   If you happened to be out on the streets in the morning hours, chances were that you would have walked right into a collective gathering of people performing yoga asanas as part of celebrations of the third UN International Yoga Day today.   While almost all cities had organised yoga sessions in public areas, Lucknow, the capital city of India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh witnessed a massive gathering of 51,000 people and more to celebrate the day.    And this time there weren’t just Hindus, but Muslims too.    Apart from individual participants ranging from different professional backgrounds and students from largely Muslim schools and colleges in Uttar Pradesh, Muslim Rashtriya Manch of UP took up an active role at the event.    Speaking on the occasion, Mahiraj Dhwaj Singh, national co-convenor (organisation) of Muslim Rashtriya Manch for UP and Uttarakhand said, “More than 1,000 Muslims had contacted us about participating in the International Yoga Day celebrations, but at least 300 have confirmed their participation. Most of the participants will be observing roza, while performing yoga. In fact, most of them are likely to arrive at the programme venue after Sehri (pre-dawn meal).”
More than 1,000 Muslims had contacted us about participating in the International Yoga Day celebrations, but at least 300 have confirmed their participation. Most of the participants will be observing roza, while performing yoga.
  ×
This narrative, however, breaks from the usually accepted discourse of yoga belonging to Hinduism. The ancient Indian tradition known for bringing harmony between man and nature and instilling a great form of restraint and fulfilment is now seeking supporters within religious minority factions too. Shripad Naik, Minister of State, (independent charge) Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) believes that yoga has the ability to change our perspectives of life. He said, “It brings through a renewed sense of health and wellbeing among other health benefits.”
Syed Yaser Ali Jeelani, national spokesperson, in charge and convener of Muslim Rashtriya Manch Delhi Pradesh also emphasised on how as a Muslim there is nothing wrong with calling yoga our own and that it is for our benefit to claim yoga and grow with it. He said, “Only fanatics and religiously intolerant people have a problem with yoga. Yoga is Indian and we as Indians must embrace it. There is no mention of its being wrong for us Muslims to follow it. As a Muslim, yoga is equal to namaz and I would follow yoga with equal fervour as Sanatan Dharam would follow the essence of Hindustani culture.”   It must be brought to context here that it’s the holy month of Ramadan and that Muslims are fasting through the day since the hour of dawn till sunset, going without food or water for 30 days straight. Ramadan started on May 28 and it has been 24 days since the Indian Muslims have been observing fast today.
Only fanatics and religiously intolerant people have a problem with yoga. Yoga is Indian and we as Indians must embrace it.
  ×
It’s pertinent to mention Ramadan in lieu of Muslims participating at the event, as it throws light on the dedication and eagerness to perform yoga that drove the fasting Muslims to continue practising in the scorching heat.    Kaushal Raj from the organising committee of the International Yoga Day celebrations in Lucknow said, “We started training from May 9 as they (participants)  had to be trained in different asanas according to the Common Yoga Protocol. It was a prerequisite to being a part of the event. The event was to be performed in the presence of PM Modi, CM Yogi, AYUSH minister, Police, Patanjali, Army and other important people.”   Trained according to the Protocol in 25 different asanas for the celebrations, those participating were motivated by a singular sentiment of adopting yoga in their daily lives as an intrinsically Indian cultural symbol, love for which stems from avid nationalism.    In a build up to the mass congregation today, organisations such as Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Shriram Mandir Nirman Muslim Karsevak Manch, and others who describe themselves as “secular Muslim organisations” have gone all out in the support of yoga, which has an Indian identity rather than a religious one.    Azam Khan, the national president of Shriram Mandir Nirman Muslim Karsevak Manch, was fasting while being present for the event. Before it started he said, “I will be participating in the third International Yoga Day celebrations and performing various yoga asanas (postures).” He had requested for a separate section for the rozedaars (those fasting) on the venue with provisions of a shade as they would not be able to have water even after physical excursions for the entire day till sunset.    With more number of Muslims associating themselves with the practice of yoga, it is important to note how the physical art has found its new haven within political circles. Every political party wants to claim yoga and promote it to gain political numbers.    Yoga has become the new ‘magic’ factor in crunching numbers--in appeasing all factions of the society. Vote bank politics has a new competition in the garb of yoga diplomacy.    When Mohsin Raza, minister of state for Muslim Waqf and Haj, was contacted, he said, “I will also participate and perform yoga while observing roza. Both yoga and roza are good for one’s health.”
Yoga does not have a religious identity, it is not Hindu or Muslim, it is Indian and we as Indians owe it to the land of Sanatan Dharam to respect the sentiments of the land.
  ×
Yaser Ali Jeelani adds, “Yoga is a part of our Hindustani routine. It is the coming together of kriya, vilom, discipline, love. It does not have a religious identity. It is not Hindu or Muslim, it is Indian and we as Indians owe it to the land of Sanatan Dharam to respect the sentiments of the land.”    What works in favour of yoga is its universal nature without any religious, identity or ideological barrier, as claimed by all secular organisations who worked to make Yoga Day celebration a success.    Yoga is easy to do, fun to watch, and offers an easily propagated discourse. The fact that roza and yoga are being spoken in the same length and is being accepted by some factions of the minority community, is a battle half won.    The sentiment was first fanned when Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi made comparisons between namaz (Muslim way of prayer) and Surya Namaskar (a prominent asana of yoga). He had said, “All asanas (postures) in Surya Namaskar, Pranayama activities are similar to the way namaz is done by our Muslim brothers, but nobody has ever tried to bring them together because few people are interested only in ‘bhoga’, not yoga.”   He went on to say that “up until 2014, even talking about yoga was considered communal but things changed after PM Modi took steps to make yoga popular across the world”.    Government ministries are now working overtime to market yoga as a religion-neutral exercise and ensure maximum participation nationwide. To put things in perspective, the Union AYUSH Ministry released a book called "Yoga and Islam", on its universal appeal and acceptance. To appease the Muslims, the Ministry also decided to drop the words Om and Surya Namaskar.
He said, “Denouncing the celebration on the ground of opposing certain hymns or celebrating it on Sunday only echo our fractured mindset and all the more highlight the need for a yogic life. Even Surya Namaskar is not a form of worship but well known as a capsule form of yoga which anyone can practise in a short span of time. If leading a healthy life is a human right, then it should be available to all human beings, irrespective of religion.”   But this does not go down well with everyone. Some elements in RSS feel that these compromises make yoga lose its essence and that Muslims cannot have a way out of it if they claim to be Indian, in every sense of the word.    (WION)

I had a dream last night. In it, I got a kitten. A tiny fluffy white thing I brought home in a cage. Then I forgot all about it until I saw it again a few days later still in its cage and barely alive. I freaked out.
It's an anxiety dream, and I've been having a few of those lately. Some are about sex. Some about money. And others about my inability to complete a task. Like most dreams, there's a greater than random chance that they have something to do with stuff going on in my life at the moment.
Well, at this very moment, my friend Ahmad is waiting on me to send him pictures I took at his wedding earlier this month. Vix is waiting on me to send him a cut of a music video I shot of him last year. There's work waiting for me in the office when I get back in tomorrow. And of course there's this -- my annual birthday-year review -- that's at least two weeks late.
So let's get on with it, shall we: All this anxiety business, how does it compare to last year?
This time last year, to the day, Hamza and I were at Digital Mall getting a laptop for my mom. The day before, Liy and I were in Jalan Masjid India getting fabric for my mom. And two days after that, Maysoun and I would be back at Digital Mall to get a phone for my mom.
I would fly back home for the first time in two and a half years at the end of April. My brother and sister would pick me up from the airport and we'd get some suya before doing the 45 minute drive back to Wudil. It would be my first time being at the house in Wudil. My dad's new job.
The one thing that stuck with me while I was back home was everyone's comment about my weight. Specifically, how much of it I'd gained.
I got back to KL in May and started looking for apartments immediately. I called a few agents. One got back to me. We met. He showed me three apartments. I chose one because I liked the couch. I transfered him the money a day later, and two days after that I moved in.
I was in the apartment a week before I had to fly off to Greece for Afest. Matej and I shared a room. Millie and I became friends. I shot a video for Babbel in Mykonos. Matej and I took pictures in Piraeus. In Athens, I had drinks with Aurora, who I'd only met just once before, three prior, on a bus in Berlin.
I flew to Berlin from Athens. Stayed with Dani, Seth, and Alex. I had drinks with Alex Billington, which was kind of surreal before I love his website.
I went to the World Press Photo exhibition with Nine in Amsterdam, and then immediately rushed to the airport to catch my flight back to KL. I had to pay 150 EUR because of some technicality, and I was mad because my friend Matej -- who's white -- had the same issue but didn't have to pay. I wrote several e-mails to KLM  about this apparent racial discrimination, but in the end, nothing really happened. Because of course nothing happened.
Back in KL, Kwena came down from Myanmar and stayed with me. We recorded an episode of Before I am Black, my podcast that still isn't, and also just had a really good heart to heart.
Around the same time, Mille helped me shoot a video with Tashny, which is still one of my favourite of the things I've shot. And at the end of May, we celebrated Millie's birthday at Bilique with ice-cream cake, shisha, and pool.
I just realised, going through my journal from last year, that July was when Shafina and I became friends. We met up four times in July, pretty much once every week. One of those times, she was my plus one to Omar's raya open house at Damansara Heights.
Soraya also got married in July. Ling and OJ and I drove up to Kuantan together.
In August, Maysoun and I went to The Garden to see Az Samad perform. And then a few days later, to Playspace to see Homeboy Sandman.
Nine, Liy and Furzann, and I, drove up to Bangi for Shafina's raya open house, and then later in the day, came back to my place to watch Mother of George. In August, I shot two music videos with Vix (one of which is the one he's still waiting on).
I had dinner with Samreen and Mano first week of September. It was one of those things that I was super anxious about before hand, but that ended up being completely wonderful.
SY and Patrick's wedding was in September. I flew to Berlin for that. The party from Malaysia, myself included, had dinner with the couple the day after the wedding. The day after that, Dan and I went to silent gig with Beula and Clement.
The day after I got back from Berlin was Ling's wedding. OJ invited a few of her close friends for a surprise dinner at a restaurant in Damansara Kim. I mention Damansara Kim here because I thought it was one of those made up places like Bangsar South. Turns out, no. Damansara Kim is legit, who knew?
Faiq, Amanda, and I drove up to Janda Baik at the end of September for Ling and OJ's wedding. The speeches from the Best Man and Maid of Honour were both very funny and heartwarming. The decor at the location was great. Food was on point. And the people just wonderful. It was the most at-home I've ever felt at a wedding.
I shot Zack in October. My first photo shoot since I turned 27. Millie was there to help. And so was Shan. I don't know how Zack feels about the photos, but I thought the shoot went really well.
In November, I started tracking my moods. Specifically, I started tracking sleep and how long I ran on the treadmill, and how those things correlate with my levels of anxiety, happiness, paranoia, and contentment.
For those keeping score at home, in November, I slept for an average of 6.77 hours a night. Even though that's way below my target of 8 hours every night, I'm still surprised at how I actually got. I ran for 7.38 minutes every morning, which is way way less than my target of 20.
I logged anxiety 13 times in November. Pure, unadulterated happiness 7 times. Paranoia twice. And I was contented every single day of the month expect for one: November 11.
On the 26th of November, Syakirin and I drove up to Penang for Georgetown Literary Festival. There, I hung out with Maysoun and Dhiyana and also met Manal.
In November, I also started measuring my weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and body age.
I have this vague memory of feeling too depressed to log anything in my journal for the first two weeks of December, but I guess not strong enough to remember what it is I was going through at the time.
I remember that at some point in December, I think sometime around Christmas, Shan and I went to The Berlin KL and that night was a lot of fun.
For New Year's Eve, Maysoun took me to a BBQ at her friend's place, at at midnight, we went to a cemetery to watch the fireworks over KL.
January started with a day time party at TTDI which I went to with Maysoun. Millie, Andrew and Zara, and I went to see Arrival. All hail Bradford Young. I also went climbing at Camp5 with Berlina and Daryl -- my first in over 4 months -- and it made me fall back in love with climbing.
My friends Deo and Clara got married in January in Jakarta, but I couldn't go because of visa issues.
February was Mahen's exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum. Or more accurately, an exhibition of the photography of Sultan Isma'il of which a documentary Mahen made about the man was a part of. It was my first time at the Islamic Arts Museum and it made me want to go back again at some point.
I watched Tokyo Story in February because Kogonada told me to last year and I want to e-mail him but I didn't want to until I'd seen the film. I liked it, but I still haven't e-mailed him.
I took part in the Lifebook workshop, and finished reading the James Baldwin book Kavya sent me -- Notes of a Native Son -- in February. The workshop gave me a lot to think about, and the book pretty much changed how I look at myself.
Kristen joined the company in February, and at least three people on separate occasions came up to me and asked if I'd met her. In my head, I was like -- Yes, I'm black, and she's black, and we've met. With my mouth, I just said yes.
I had a screening of Moonlight at my place in February. Or, more accurately, Shafina had a screening of Moonlight at my place in February. It's not Medicine for Melancholy, but I like it quite a bit. The last third, especially.
At the very tail end of the month, Syar read my tarot. At some point, she asked if there's a point in my life I'd like to go back to. If I'm nostalgic for some better time in the past. And I realised, I think for the first time, that there's nowhere else I’d rather be.
Shafina wrote Ghosted, a short film, which we shot in March at Sid's.
Alex and Florian came down from Berlin and stayed with me for a few days. Just before leaving for home, I had lunch with Velina and it left me with a lot of questions about relationships. More specifically, one question: Why do I want to be in a relationship?
I flew to Kano on the 28th on Saudia.
By this time, since I started measuring in November, I'd lost about 4 kilo grammes of weight, lost 4.6% body fat, and gained about 3% muscle mass.
On March 31st, my dad and I drove up to Abuja for Ahmad's wedding. He drove back that same day, and I stayed with Mubarak. April 1st was Ahmad's birthday, and also his wedding reception, which is where I took the pictures that he's still waiting on.
I came back to KL four days before my birthday, and three days before my birthday, I went to the Spanish embassy to apply for a schengen visa. I met up with Jillian to discuss a music video she wanted me to shoot for her friend's band two days before my birthday. A day before my birthday, I took Alex and Florian to Iham Gallery and Lake Gardens.
On the day I turned 28, I had brunch at a Japanese restaurant with Maysoun and Hamza -- Maysoun got us cake (it was also Hamza's birthday). Afterwards, I went to the office and took pictures of myself, which, I guess at this point, is pretty much a yearly tradition.
The new picture is a visual representation of my transformation at 27. I wouldn't say that I necessarily learned anything new, but there's at least one thing that I've internalised more:
I've learned to stop comparing myself to other people. Just because it works for someone else and not for me doesn't mean it's not fair. And even if it was, why lose sleep over it if I can't change it.
There are still a lot of things I'm unsure of, of course. For one, I'm anxious about my future in this country. And there are questions about romantic relationships that I still cannot answer. I'm still insecure about parts of my body. And my financial life is a fucking disaster.
I got an e-mail from my 18-year old self on my birthday (futureme.org), and I was horrified while reading it. Not only was the language atrocious, but my vision for myself at 28 when I was 18 was completely off. Not only do I not have a wife and kid, but I’m not even in contact with most of the friends I referred to in my e-mail.
Having said that, this -- me here right now -- is the best version of me yet. I've never been smarter than I am right now. I've never been more confident and capable. I've never felt more like an adult. I've never been more content about life.
And at the risk of sounding superficial, I've never liked what I see when I look in the mirror more than I do now.
See also: Caring less about sounding superficial.
I've never been more excited about seeing a version of myself go through something like I am currently excited about seeing this version of me go through 28.
Here we go.
"Any writer, I suppose, feels that the world into which he was born is nothing less than a conspiracy against the cultivation of his talent--which attitude certainly has a great deal to support it. On the other hand, it is only because the world looks on his talent with such frightening indifference that the artist is compelled to make his talent important."
