Known as “Lady Leadfoot,” this 1956 Jaguar XK140 was believed to be permanently lost to the sands of time by racing enthusiasts and automotive historians alike. It was found unaltered, sitting in a garage for nearly three decades. Adored and driven by Hall of Fame inductee, Denise McCluggage - an extraordinary woman known for her multiple legendary talents (including her Auto Journalism and Racecar Driving), this Jag was discovered a couple of years after her passing at the age of 88. Originally gifted to Denise by a celebrated sportsman, “Lady Leadfoot” was the car that started everything for Denise and inspired her to race. At that time both racing and journalism were taboo for women, and Denise was beyond her time in that respect, breaking down gender barriers on multiple levels. Denise was the first woman to participate in the sports she covered at a time when women were seldom allowed into racing pits or close to any of the action in sports dominated by men. She was also the first journalist to be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, and the first woman to receive the Ken W. Purdy Award for Excellence in Automotive Journalism. She brought automotive coverage to the New York Herald, the Indy 500, Les Mans, Grand Prix, and countless other media to Autoweek. Her publishing and sustaining role in Autoweek during its infancy not only helped to keep the publication going but also played a crucial part in the growth of sports car racing in America, which continues today. Denise McCluggage never backed away from a challenge, and as proven by her mantra of “Guts and Brilliance,” later became the first female inducted into the Sebring International Raceway Hall of Fame. Though she raced with many cars throughout her career and was riddled with accolades and noteworthy achievements, there was a fondness she held in her heart for this beautiful ’56 Jag. This historic piece is available for purchase; please message me for additional information. #racing #historic #history #jaguar #xk140 #sebring #lesmans #Nascar #hmsa #svra #automobile #automotive #ladyleadfoot #leadfootladies #leadfootlady #womenempowerment #womeninracing https://www.instagram.com/p/Cka9OAeLheE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This is the only Burnett race car left in existence. It was designed & constructed in 1964 by the late Pacific Northwest racing icon, Stan Burnett, for another Seattle-area racing legend, Don Jensen. It is a tube-frame, small block, home-built racer, fabricated from the ground up following chalk lines laid out on the floor of a small residential garage in South Seattle. The car campaigned in the United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC) from 1964-68, Canadian American Challenge Cup (CAN-AM) from 1966-74, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) regional races from 1976-80. Since its restoration in 1996, the car has raced in select historic/vintage racing events across the United States, including the Monterey Pre-Historics, the Brickyard (Indy) Vintage Racing Invitational, as well as many USRRC Senior Tour and the 30th & 40th CAN-AM Reunions. Stan Burnett died in 1971, while testing his BURNETT MKIV at Pacific International Raceway. The number "64" displayed on this MKII is in honor of Stan. It was assigned to Stan during his distinguished racing career. As presented here from 2015, the car was owned & driven by Merrill J. Faulk of Poulsbo, Washington.

BREAKING: California Judge Rules in Favor of SEMA, EcoLogic Partners to Protect Motorized Recreation at Oceano Dunes
Tumblr media
The California Superior Court of San Luis Obispo County has ruled thatthe California Coastal Commission does not have the authority to prohibit motorized recreational and overnight camping access at Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA). The Honorable Judge Tana Coates ruled in favor of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), EcoLogic Partners (a legal collaboration between the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA), American Sand Association (ASA) and American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) District 37, and Friends of Oceano Dunes, ruling that the Coastal Commission abused its discretion by unilaterally ordering the elimination of off-highway vehicle (OHV) use at the Oceano Dunes SVRA. "Today's ruling is a huge win for SEMA, ORBA, ASA and AMA District 37 in the fight to protect motorized recreation access in California and across the United States," announced Mike Spagnola, president & CEO of SEMA. "The Coastal Commission's efforts to stop off-road access at Oceano Dunes were unreasonable and set a dangerous precedent. "This is a hard-fought victory for the motorized recreation community and the millions of enthusiasts that recreate at Oceano Dunes each year. SEMA is proud to have supported this lawsuit and is committed to protecting the right to responsibly recreate on California's coast and public lands throughout the country." The court determined that San Luis Obispo County's Local Coastal Program (LCP) governs activities at the SVRA under the Coastal Act. The LCP expressly allows OHV use at the Oceano Dunes SVRA. Under the Coastal Act, the County of San Luis Obispo has exclusive authority to enforce and manage the LCP. The Coastal Commission, acting on its own, has no power to take any action inconsistent with the LCP. Oceano Dunes SVRA is a premier destination for motorized recreation enthusiasts and tourists alike as the only off-road park in the state offering direct access to the Pacific Ocean. For decades, recreationists and off-roaders have enjoyed riding all types of motorized vehicles, from trucks and SUVs to dune buggies and quads, on the California beach, which was threatened by the Commission's March 2021 amendments to Coastal Development Permit 4-82-300 that demanded the California Department of Parks and Recreation phase out OHV access to Oceano Dunes SVRA by 2024. For more information, visit the SEMA Action Network (SAN) announcement. Read more like this... Read the full article
