ian’s eurovision opinions 2021

hi nobody else cares about eurovision that i know of but i have Thoughts so here we go putting all of them here

France: I’m bored. At least it’s in French so I’m not as distracted by how bored I am as I was with last year

Romania: I actually like this one! I honestly hated Alcohol You last year but this one’s nice.

Czech Republic: Benny pls dont revamp this one lmao. I like it a lot! Idk that it’s a winner but I’m glad it’s here and it’s fun.

San Marino: Can’t wait to finally have Eurovision in Valentina’s backyard. Also Flo Rida? Lmfao wild

Germany:

The Netherlands: It’s neat and Jeangu sings well, but I think I liked Grow better.

Albania: THIS is the Balkan Bop I always require at Eurovision.

Moldova: Somebody called this Maruv but Kawaii and they’re not wrong

Slovenia: Ana’s vocal tone is so interesting but I’m just bored with her songs

Serbia: YES. BITCH. Also love that they continue to not compromise and sing in their native language.

Israel: I think I still love Feker Libi more but this one is very fun and good still

Ireland: Story of My Life was way more fun I think but I think juries might like this more so v-v

Belgium: I just do not like Hooverphonic and I don’t like them after the dumbass comments they made last year

Norway: I am a salty Keiino stand ngl. The staging for this song is so fucking corny for how serious the song is and idk if I like that disconnect. If you’re gonna be camp the song needs to be camp too!

Italy: All these dudes are in fishnets so principal I love it. I’m hit or miss with Italy’s entries usually bc they’re boring ballads a lot but stuff like this and Mahmood are some of my favs. I hope they do well.

Cyprus: Ehhh? It’s not bad and I’ll prob put it on my playlist but idk if I’m super crazy about this one.

Spain: I’M BORED.........

Finland: The opening of this song is 100% a ripoff of the intro to Crawling by Linkin Park but I will always cape hard for any hard rock/metal entries in this godforsaken contest so we must stan

Croatia: Holy shit Croatia finally sent a song I like!!! I’M SO HAPPY FOR THEM

Estonia: Better than last year, still not very good imo

Lithuania: I love The Roop and if they aren’t at least top 5 I will burn all of Europe down to the ground

Ukraine: I. Fucking. Love. Go_A. So. Goddamn. Much. Shum is so fucking good. Ukraine basically never disappoints though.

Portugal: It’s very pretty but idk if I’m jazzed about it? I tend to not gravitate towards super quiet songs like this for Eurovision normally tho

Denmark: Oh boy euro synthwave how revolutionary

Australia: I just do not like indie shit and Montaigne’s music just is not for me I think

honestly, the funniest thing i remember from business college in 2014 was how fucking salty my trainer/teacher was with our first load of assignment booklets giving us assignments about a “boutique dvd rental shop” called VM, that was struggling to stay afloat “in the current market”. all as if those assignments had actually been used for 10 years/written 10 years before the course started, and so had just like expected for the market to stay the same.

but 2014 was when netflix was emerging as a major streaming service in the US (and would eventually launch in australia in 2015). in australia, the possibility of streaming was also being talked about as well; with aussie streaming platform Stan being launched in 2015 also... and then satellite/cable tv services like foxtel also had a multiroom function which was kinda like an early streaming option for a few years prior.... right. (obvs im just talking about legal avenues of watching movies etc in this post.... pirating is for another post.... we pirated tv shows/movies like crazy back then, I had the whole harry potter and the half blood prince movie pirated onto my iPod touch by my friend in like 2009, for example lmao).

on the other hand, more and more video rental shops like civic video and video ezy (here in australia) as well as blockbuster were all slowly closing down or becoming just DVD rental vending-type machines at supermarkets, right.... so, we were all just went: “why hasn’t this business “VM” kinda like died yet, col??? can we just not do these assignments in a form of protest for their frickin pointlessness and irrelevancy????”

and my teacher was just said: “this is so fucking stupid for you guys. this course was written by frickin dinosaurs, i swear to bloody god!!!! because who, out of the 6 you in this class, has been to a video store in the last 6 months say, or let alone, the last few years, to rent out a movie or another DVD, for example???? *no one puts up a hand* SEE! THAT’S EXACTLY MY GODDAMNED POINT!!!! because neither have I, actually (bc of my foxtel subscription.... and pirating, of course), and im old 😅!!! god. im sorry you guys, you’ll still have to do these assignments, obviously. but know i really do feel that they’re frickin senseless and unrelatable for you!!!! know that im actually on your side with these ridiculously old assignments, jesus fucking christ. a bloody video shop, i can’t fucking believe it. bloody honestly. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🙅🏻‍♂️”

like the guy was in his 50s, but he fuckingknew what was up lmao. like there’s some okay boomers/gen xers out there, y’all. but yeah. I still find these assessment booklets sometimes and go through my old assignment files on my hard drive on my laptop and laugh at these ones. just what the fuck lmao. and then I remember that the civic video near my house has turned into a gym now too. it’s so sad to see an era go, but... it had to, i guess.

on a lighter note though, i wonder if they’ve finally updated the coursework for that course now lmao 😅 imagine still writing assignments about a struggling/failing boutique dvd rental store in 2019/nearly 2020 lmao. fucking whack.
