Stede living so constantly in crisis mode that his brain doesn't recognize pain anymore

but also: Stede learning to heal from that constant crisis mode and suddenly losing that pain tolerance as his brain recognizes that it's safe to let himself be hurt now, because he's got a family who will protect and care for him

#anonymous #ask #stede losing that pain tolerance and letting the pain wash over him #but it's too much too sudden he's not used to it #and it's overwhelming and horrifying at first #until it isn't anymore because the realization that he's safe with the people that love him quiets it down #and also bc someone (ed) has enveloped him in a hug so fierce and warm it feels like a cocoon #i think the moment when he and mary finally reached a mutual understanding and she hugged him #has opened the door for those feelings and vulnerability #and when he realizes what's happened to ed the emotional pain is gonna dropkick him in the face #more than anything i need the crew to be supportive while he and ed try to fix their shit #ofmd
