In the aftermath, Vash sleeps. Meryl and Wolfwood are reluctant to leave him alone and vulnerable on the Steamer, so Roberto finds the first set of bunks he can that will hold all four of them.

It’s not a big room.

None of them care.

Roberto had figured Vash isn’t human. He’s too fast, his reactions too sharp and eerie to be normal. His eyes are the same shade as a healthy plant, under the amber glasses that he wears.

Anyways. WIP Wednesday. I swear I'm trying to get back into writing other fics.

“Well, thank fuck for that,” Mimir said. “Suspect the young ones will be disappointed they won’t be able to use the snow to get out of practice.”

“They wouldn’t regardless. They need to learn to fight in any conditions.”

“Of course they do.”

Faye felt like she’d learned a lot that day and she hated most of it.

For starters, that unreliable looking bridge? Was definitely unreliable. She’d been right to trust her instincts on that.

“For what it’s worth, I have either been weird or invisible my entire life. I’m starting to get used to it.”

"They’ve been surveying when there’s no storms, so I guess if you like walking…”

Meryl snorted. “Yeah, the never-ending sand and rocks are real stimulating.”

“Truuue, but some of the rocks have fossils in them. I’ve got two.”

They were all thinking it: No Man’s Land was drowning in poverty. There was a reason most in their profession only came here for ISP jobs; the locals just couldn’t pay enough to make it worth their while. Saying you definitely had sixty billion in local currency when your “large” cities could barely support a space port felt like a scam. Faye knew a thing or two about those.

Working on some other stuff too, but it's hella spoilers for the unknowable tomorrow so we'll just call that a secret. ETA: Okay, one excerpt from one of them:

“Wolfwood’s talking to a girl,” he said.

“What?” I didn’t know he knew how to do that.
