If there was any more strength in James footsteps, or maybe any more time since the announcement, there would be a distinct path of his walk. Peter came back, not even a week after they made the Fidelio Charm, and told them the truth, everything. How he was a Death Eater; which was surprising at the moment because James would’ve swore his life to it that his friends would never steep that low; the things he had done, how he tore them apart to not trust one another, to not see Peter for what he really was, and yet James couldn’t stop thinking of Pete as his friend and brother as he tried for the anger to leave his body as quietly as possible.

Peter had come back to warn them, to tell them Voldemort wanted them, but he couldn’t tell the Dark Lord about innocent Harry, lovely Lily and loyal James’ place, he ran, and came to hide in the only place that he could think of that Voldemort couldn’t find him (the Potters’).

James was glad that Peter didn’t betray them, that he didn’t sold them out, but now... What the fuck were they supposed to do? Voldemort wanted Harry, not any other child, it was confirmed, and James didn’t know how to protect his family.
