The young plumes of flower developing on Persicaria alpina (I still call it P. polymorpha) (White Fleece Flower). Today’s #oneadayplant . One for a spacious garden as individual plants get quite big. This is a herbaceous perennials that in every way will rival a Buddleja for height, width and flower volume. The flowers pictured are quite young and as the plant develops can get much larger and more impressive. . Large, fairly dull foliage with attractive red ribs will quickly develop in spring, going on to produce these terminal clusters of flowers that will cover the plant, sitting at over 2m tall (7-8’). Bees in particular love it. After flower, reddish seedheads are formed. I have not noticed it self-seeding in the garden. . Great at the back of a robust border, or where you need a seasonal screen capable of blocking views. This isn’t for everyone, requiring a significant amount of garden space and resembling (as it is related to) Japanese Knotweed, but clump forming rather than invasive.
