Prompt: Anakin and Obi-Wan are both stressed and need a break, and so they decide to go on a picnic date 💝

I needed this my friend, thank you 🥺💖💖 I admit writing has been a bit difficult lately, so I needed something easy and fluffy! This is just set in a cute lil modern au 🥰

Anakin hums to himself as he packs the basket with everything he picked up earlier especially for today. He had found the large basket at the thrift store this morning, along with an antique candlestick and a slightly chipped, but still pretty, saucer he also found, packed carefully along one side of the basket lined with fabric. He's not very good at packing and organizing things just right, but he tries to make this look good and puts effort into every little detail.

After the decor, he packs napkins with extra to spare just in case, two reusable water bottles, and all the food he has carefully prepared. He might not have made it all himself, but he did his best to still make it special. The basket ready, he sends a quick text to Obi-Wan to meet him outside of the library where Obi-Wan has ensconced himself today to prepare for the upcoming semester, so that they can be together for lunch. Then he gathers the basket and the blanket to sit on, checks that Artoo still has enough water in his dish, and heads out of their house.

It's a short walk to the library, made better because the weather is beautiful, not too hot for the end of summer but with the sun still shining warm on his skin. He gets a text back from Obi-Wan along the way telling him he'll be waiting for him, which is good. Anakin was worried he might have to drag Obi-Wan away from his lesson planning, and that might be embarrassing for both of them under the eyes of the library's director, Jocasta Nu.

Obi-Wan has his bag slung over his shoulder when Anakin spots him outside of the library, waiting in the little garden area. Anakin gives him a grin and lifts a hand in greeting, and Obi-Wan smiles widely back before jogging over to meet him. "Where are we going?" Obi-Wan asks in lieu of a greeting, looking curiously at the basket Anakin holds. Anakin gestures to him and they start walking down the sidewalk.

"We're having a picnic in the park," Anakin states, looping his arm through Obi-Wan's.

"Oh?" Obi-Wan asks with a raised eyebrow, a smile growing on his lips.

"Yep," Anakin says proudly. "You've been far too stressed lately with the semester starting soon, and I know I've been busy with work too, and we haven't gotten to spend as much time together," Anakin explains. "So I wanted to do something special." Obi-Wan looks over at him, his eyes soft and fond.

"Anakin, I love you," he murmurs, and Anakin ducks his head, slightly embarrassed but happy.

"You better," he jokes, knocking his shoulder against Obi-Wan's playfully. "I love you, too," he says a moment later, and Obi-Wan bumps his own shoulder lightly against Anakin's.

"What have you got in there?" Obi-Wan suddenly asks, leaning over to try and lift the edge of the blanket to look inside the basket.

"No peeking, you'll just have to wait and see!" Anakin says with a laugh, batting Obi-Wan's curious hand away.

"Alright, alright, fine," Obi-Wan says with a big sigh, but he's still smiling wide enough that the crinkles in the corners of his eyes are furrowed deep. They continue walking the short distance to the park, turning into its entrance once they reach it. Along the way they meet a dog that their owner allows them to pet, and Anakin smiles so much that his face hurts as he watches Obi-Wan coo over the fluffy dog.

"Why don't you act like that with Artoo?" Anakin asks him once they continue on, and Obi-Wan turns to arch an eyebrow at him.

"We have a love-hate relationship," he says seriously. "It's not my fault he's an ornery old cat. We just show our affection for each other in . . . unique ways." Anakin starts laughing before Obi-Wan even finishes, and soon Obi-Wan joins in.

"Maybe we'll have to get a dog sometime," Anakin says once they stop, already planning it out in his head, especially with the way Obi-Wan's eyes light up at that. "Come on, this is the spot I want us to sit at," Anakin says, grabbing Obi-Wan's hands and pulling him after him until they get to a stretch of grass between a gazebo and a little stream. Anakin gets right to work setting up, and he can't get Obi-Wan to let him do it all on his own even when he fights it, so Obi-Wan helps him lay out the blanket before they sit down and Anakin immediately digs through the basket.

"Everything is gluten and dairy free," Anakin begins. He has been eating a lot of allergy friendly foods recently as well in support of Obi-Wan's new-found intolerances. "There's iced tea in the bottles, and I got a ton of berries from that farm stand, a baguette, some jam, and a box of donut holes from the freezer section that are really good," Anakin lists off, getting everything out. He arranges it just so, laying out everything with the decor he brought until he's satisfied. Not hearing a response from Obi-Wan, he looks over at him to see him just staring at him, smiling.

"What?" Anakin says sheepishly, but Obi-Wan leans forward and kisses him softly.

"You're cute," Obi-Wan murmurs when he pulls back slightly, and Anakin can feel himself blush. "And thank you." A light breeze brushes over them as they kiss once more, sweet and slow until they part to lean their foreheads together.

"Okay, now let's eat," Anakin says with one last kiss to Obi-Wan's lips, who suddenly pouts.

"What if I just want to eat you?" Obi-Wan says quietly, teasingly, and Anakin feels himself blushing even more. He pulls back to gently shove Obi-Wan in the chest.

"Obi-Wan, not here, I don't want to be charged for public indecency," Anakin says with a laugh, and Obi-Wan winks at him before reaching for the container of berries. "Wait, wait, I need a picture first to capture this moment," Anakin says quickly, fumbling for his phone to take a quick picture of his set up. Obi-Wan indulges him, and stays still when Anakin takes a selfie of the two of them until Obi-Wan suddenly kisses his cheek and makes the picture blurry. But it's still his favorite shot.

By the time they dig into the food, a few bugs have started buzzing around them or crawling up onto their blanket, and there's definitely a rock that Anakin is sitting on, but that doesn't deter it from feeling lovely and romantic. They lean against one another and share bites of food, listening to the bubbling water and the chorus of grasshoppers and the faint sound of children playing at the playground. There isn't much to talk about, but that's alright. They can just enjoy each other's company in this way and make something special out of an ordinary day, during a stressful week.

And in this moment, they're okay.

life update + formal hiatus

basically a lot of good and bad stuff is going on in my life and it's A Lot and I'm not doing Super Great, so I may be on ""hiatus"" for the foreseeable future. sorry.

in detail: I have a job, I work roughly 30 hours a week on my feet. it's not great but it's tolerable. At least I have decent income. I'm about to get my own car after saving up for months, finally.

I have a lot less free time and energy to do things I used to do all the time, like drawing and writing. I tried to do commissions over the holidays but was very slow and shitty at them. I may close commissions, or only offer basic sketch slots, for the foreseeable future.

Art updates will probably still be very slow and sporadic. I may move all my art to my DeviantArt account from now on, because at least I can make my art easily organized and searchable there, unlike tumblr and twitter's endless scrolling.

i am officially burnt out on social media. i rarely check twitter or tumblr. i'm tired of shitty news in the world, and hot takes, and celebrities/artists turning out to be garbage people.

i might be burnt out on FMA as well, but am also in an awkward position where i have nothing else to fully latch onto, and im not sure if i want to move on? im not motivated or consistent enough to get into something new. I still have a metric ton of WIPs i kinda want to finish.

super tired of fandom drama. like, all the shipping wars and purity culture. its bullshit. like, I was really into ed/ling but then it got too popular and people tried to make it this "pure" alternative to other ships and that is just not what i signed up for. i lost my fire for it. but even with the ships i am currently into, i hesitate to publicly contribute to them for fear of that cycle happening all over again: it gets popular, antis come in and ruin it, and i lose interest. i will probably keep to myself and my personal circles of friends. i recommend other people do too - fandom stuff is often very unhealthy.

good example is a incident from last summer that im still a bit sore about. essentially: a member of our FMA-centered friendgroup had a mental breakdown and caused a schism among us. i was among many people who tried to help and ended up manipulated and lied to. it was very stressful and triggering. we have separated from that person since then. i won't drop names or give details; if you really want to know what happened, DM me.

and the latest issue is an irl thing that's very serious. my mother got sick and now has cancer. luckily it is treatable and she'll start chemotherapy and retire from working soon. she's worked hard and tried to be healthy for years, so this sucks, but we are hoping for the best. extended family, friends, and people at her job are supporting us. i will have even less free time since i have to take care of her.

I have also been trying to arrange to help a close friend of mine move out of an abusive living situation. its also been very difficult. hopefully that works out.

so basically - I may be checking out from tumblr/twitter altogether. im tired and most people on this site are gone anyway cause of all the shitty changes LOL. if you're one of the few who are still "holding out" for me to come back to some kind of "former glory days", i am sorry. believe me, i am infinitely more disappointed than you are. it is a common thing with me, being disappointed.
