Why do you continue writing fics?

Oh, I like this question! Thank you for asking it. I take "continue" to mean why do I continue writing fics even when all of the usual reasons I write aren't there or simply aren't having their desired impact.

I don't know if this will sound as comforting or as motivating to other people as it does to me, but the thing I always come back to--the ultimate reason to continue writing--is that the alternative is not writing, which sucks. My favorite passage about it is from the Roman satirist Juvenal, who has some really beautiful things to say about why you have to keep writing (7.48-51):

nos tamen hoc agimus tenuique in puluere sulcos ducimus et litus sterili uersamus aratro. nam si discedas, laqueo tenet ambitioso 50 scribendi cacoethes et aegro in corde senescit.

But we do this [writing] and we make our furrows in the measly dust

and we till the shore with our barren plow.

Because if you stop, the writing disease

holds you in its circling noose, and lingers in your sick heart.

I love it both for the sentiment, and for the fact that my problems aren't new! People have been wrestling with why they continue to write for thousands of years.
