#so like yes the majority of the labor is unpaid but you still NEED paid staff to handle the administrative side of it

the way some of you people say like oh its a nonprofit which means nobody gets paid…. Like how clueless are you. yes nonprofits tend to use a lot of volunteer labor, but that doesnt mean NO ONE gets paid, because most things require at least a handful of people to be there consistently and put consistent work in just to keep the thing running, which you can only guarantee by putting those people on an actual wage. this means that the money required to pay those full time staff are factored into the organization’s operational costs, which is NOT PROFIT. a nonprofit doesnt mean theres no money involved, it means that the money that is involved is not for profit. it will still have operational costs and the cost of paying the handful of full time employees that keep the organization running smoothly consistently and reliably are considered operational costs

omg three days after snoopy day 🤲 i don’t think i’m close to any of the nct members except yangyang :’) he’s a year and five days older than me, but i share a bday with heeseung from enhypen even though i don’t stan 😗
and that’s so crazy to think you’ve almost been working for a year !! i feel like i recall when you first got it? but omg the nostalgia i’m getting from that message 💔 even though i’m still in college, online learning made it hard to experience that stuff :’) i miss the parties and accidentally sleeping in and then running across campus to get to class only to realize you got the day wrong. but !! i’ll be able to move back in the fall and i’m super excited :’))
and thank you so much cat !! 🥺 i’m super excited for it, but i’m going to be a bundle of nerves like omfg i have a class right when my meetings for the internship starts 💀 and during my interview the ceo called me a chill person and i feel like that was a euphemism for apathetic 😭 my face lowkey doesn’t express as much as i want to
i don’t get paid for it rn but hopefully if i keep interning there i will !! but also i’ll be looking for paid opportunities on the side too :’) this was more of a way to get my leg up and get some experience in before moving to bigger things
aaa ikr what are the odds of being born so close to the birthday of the only fellow 98 liner in nct?? 🤧 omg you’re an october baby! 💕💕 i love that month because it has one of my favorite holidays :’) and that’s so cool omg :o i technically share a birthtime (?) with kevin from the boyz since he was born feb 23, 1998 in korea so with the timezone differences, it would’ve been around the same time askjdfhaks
it’s been so long 🤧 this also marks one full year of social distancing / quaranting because i remember going home for spring break and telling my friends i’ll see them after break and then i never saw them again 💀💀 omg yeah i feel really sad for all of you who are in school still because you’re all experiencing a whole year of online school and not getting the full college experience ): but omg LOL YES i remember that too 😭 i overslept for a final once and ran to class and came an hour late 😅 it’s so exciting that you can move back in the fall though!!! will you be living on campus or are you going to rent a place with your friends? 💞
asjdlaskjdfl these internships are truly ways for companies to get free labor legally huh 😔 will this be a summer internship or will you work there year long? o: i hope you have lots of fun at your first job, honey bee 💗 ooo are you looking for opportunities pertaining to your major or are you wanting to explore different career fields? 🥰 and i feel that - i did an unpaid internship too for the experience since it’s needed with the ridiculous requirements all these jobs have like wanting a first level associate with a senior knowledge and 5 years of experience but getting paid an intern salary 🤧

On Patreon, Content, and The Creative Class
I never got around to setting up a Creator page on Patreon, and considering events of this week, I'm rather glad of that, despite the fact that it was more gnawing imposter syndrome than anything else that made me hesitant.
Patreon fucked up. In so many ways, that I'm honestly still processing them. A lack of veracity, a point of view that elides the microtransactional future in favor of focusing on The Next Big Thing, and the fiscal realities of their creators.
$50 a month can be a utility bill, a full tank of gas, groceries, some leisure time, a reduction of stress, pleasure taken in a night out, a cushion against an unpaid sick day at the day job. $500 a month can mean not needing a second job, or insurance against a crisis. More than $2000 a month, can mean making what you create, your job.
That, despite Patreon's point of view on scale, IS, "Life-changing," for so many creators who frequently struggle with balancing material needs and the time and energy to create with no expectation of being compensated at all.
The bank doesn't care why your car payment is late, the light and heat and water and phone and, and, and... A, "Creative class," isn't an income data point, it's a mindset and need to express oneself. Someone's success, is determined more by luck than by talent. For marginalized, niche creators to have a platform that allows some absorption of financial burdens, so they can practice their craft, is necessary. Patreon has decided that they don't, for whatever reason, agree with this.
And then they went about telling everybody just how much they don't get it, aren't trying to get it, and just don't care.
I have almost 3k followers on Twitter,(most of them real human beings, yay,) close to 1k here. I'm small, small potatoes. I know this. I also know that if even a third of the people who regularly engage with my sometimes loopy, mostly shouty self, felt it was worth investing a dollar a month in encouraging me to regularly produce content, that would be a LOT. It would make the difference between having to stress constantly, and being able to live a fuller life without breaking my back at my day job. Which would consequently, give me the space to imagine projects that take more out of me than writing off the cuff posts on my phone (yes, 99% of my original content is written on my phone in the Tumblr app.)
To see Patreon tell creators who are able to survive, because of those $1 pledgers, as well as telling pledgers themselves, that it's not good enough, is agonizing. Doubly so because I work in fundraising and I can tell you three things for certain:
1. Recurring support is invaluable, in cost-effectiveness and stability.
2. The majority of people who support people-centric ventures, DO NOT HAVE BIG MONEY.
3. Alienating donors is always a bad plan.
And as an aside, when I'm asking people for upwards of $10,000 at a go, you better believe there's a shit-ton of emotional labor involved, which is a factor people don't think about, in the, "Creative class." Self-promotion is hard. You're not just selling what you made, you're selling YOU, that you, yourself, as a person, are worth someone's money and time.
Personally, that's the part I'm really bad at. I can sell other people's work like nobody's business, selling my own is PAINFULLY AWKWARD.
To foster creativity, and a true creative class, means deliberately carving out space for the creatives who will never be the next big thing, it means that if your goal is to give people a way to get paid, especially if you mean it to be a way to eke out a living, you don't look at people who only earn a little and push them out. It means making space for people who can only pay a little, because they matter as much if not more than people who can pay a few hundred on a WHIM, but who may only do that twice a year, if they feel like it. It means thinking of the creative class as both broad and deep. There are working artists, musicians, and actors, who are scraping by, but who are grateful to be able to do that, because they're able to do what they love without starving. Starving artists are artists who can't afford to create, don't romanticize it.
At the moment, I suppose I'm just sad because something that was allowing more people to be part of the creative class without being punished for it, has abandoned them.
Meanwhile, until something takes its place (Ko-Fi is allegedly looking into enabling recurring payments as well as one-offs,) find ways to support people creating things you enjoy and find valuable, because it matters more than any of us will ever be able to say.
Creators are not just content producers, they're human beings who have to be able to eat, in order to keep making content.

Special Session is Done. What Now?
I apologize if this message is less coherent than normal, it was a long night.   The Special Session finally ended at 3:00am today with 8 bills passed and heading to the Governor. There were 6 budget bills, 1 labor bill, and a bill to fix all the mistakes made by rushing through all the other bills (yes, really). Governor Dayton has either 3 or 14 days (depending on who you talk to, there’s a lot of confusion on this point) from when he receives the bills to either sign or veto. He also hadn’t yet received the budget bills passed during the regular session so those are also still in play (though much less controversial).   Which means there is still time to influence Dayton. Call him at 651-201-3400.   Here’s a full run down:   The best thing I can say about these bills is that they are less bad then the original Republican proposals. The GOP had to compromise considerably because the lost their majority in the Senate the last day of session (2 Senators had other obligations) and required DFL votes to pass anything. That does not mean these bills are good and some people are calling for Dayton to veto everything and start over.   From a budget standpoint, the best description I heard was that this was the type of credit card year you would normally see when we have deficits. Most things are funded for the two years, but they are funded through a mix of one time payments and money transfers that drop off a cliff after that. It’s likely this budget will take us back to structural deficits.   I’m going to say the worst bill of the bunch is the Health and Human Services bill and I encourage everyone to urge Dayton to veto this bill. The bill leaves no buffer to accommodate cuts in funding from the federal government which seem not just possible, but very likely. It completely empties the Health Care Access Fund with no way to rebuild the account and it cuts funding for MNChoices by 50%, leaving the counties with an unfunded health mandate that could lead to a 4% increase in property taxes to make up the difference. This is a program for assessing the needs and preferences of people with disabilities to recommend services and resources. This bill under-funds everything, uses a ton of one-time cash, and will cause major issues for our healthcare system. It was also being changed and negotiated right up until the last second (and well after midnight). It’s a poorly thought out, rushed, mess and it should be vetoed.   Dayton has said that he will veto the labor standards bill because of the preemption provision that would remove local control to set work policies, like minimum wage and paid leave. This was a direct attack on the progress made my workers in the Metro. The, frankly, sick part of this bill was that the GOP bundled this with continuing paid family leave for government employees. They tried to pit labor against labor but everyone is sticking together, with the unions supporting a veto at the sacrifice of their own family leave. Women who are pregnant now and were planning on taking leave will no longer be able to do so and people currently out on leave may have to come back to work early if they cannot afford to be unpaid. I cannot express how grateful I am for the government workers who stood by the side of minimum wage workers to defeat preemption. Please thank Dayton for this veto and thank the government workers who stood up to this dirty GOP tactic.   Rumor is that Dayton might veto the Government funding bill because it moves the Office of Economic Status of Women into a different department and removes its only staff member. This office has been an important part of helping legislators understand the barriers to economic success that women face throughout the state so they can make better policy decisions. The GOP also under-funded the government services forcing Dayton to choose between maintaining service levels or getting money for cyber security. He chose to maintain service levels which means there is no funding for cyber security.   People are also calling for a veto of the Education omnibus for two primary reasons: The Tier 1 licensing for teachers still does not include any requirements that the person has had any training in teaching. These licenses are not just for tech or career classes, you could have someone with no teaching skills trying to teach basic science and math fundamentals. Just because you are good at doing something yourself does not mean you can teach someone else to do it. Additionally, there appear to be attacks on collective bargaining rights for teachers (I’m not sure of the specifics). Education funding did get the 2%/2% formula increases they wanted.   The transportation bill will require the Met to raise rates to fill a funding gap. The GOP expects rate increases to make up $15 million in funding. Legislators were reporting this will still leave a $100 million funding hole and, after two year, funding drops off a cliff like in all these budgets. It also requires that any money for the Southwest Light Rail project come only from Hennepin county. The state will not pay any cost sharing for that project like they do for other light rail projects. This bill isn’t great but it is world’s better than what they started with and it’s not the worst budget by a long shot.   The last bill to pass was bonding with near unanimous support (who doesn’t like money for local projects). What I will say about this is that the DFL started up some dirty late night politics over a bike path in Bloomington (I’m not even making this up). The bonding bill includes money for paving the MN Valley Trail, part of which goes through Bloomington and would pave a currently unpaved trail used by many of the residents of that area. Paving this piece of trail appears to be very controversial in Bloomington. House Speaker Daudt changed the bonding bill to remove the paving for the piece of trail in Bloomington and some Senate DFL members went nuts. They claimed Daudt was trying to scuttle the entire $1 billion bonding bill over the bike trail to please a wealthy donor. Some blatantly accused him of “pay-to-play”. Given the well documented and reported controversy over this trail (it was not hard to find articles about it), that narrative doesn’t hold water.  Ultimately Daudt undid his change and the bill passed, but that whole episode left a bad taste in my mouth. Finally, one regular session bill is also raising quite a lot of controversy. The Public Safety omnibus includes language that would prevent the commissioner from changing any rules around driver’s licenses. This is to prevent any change that would allow for a license for undocumented immigrants to be done with a law passed by the commissioner (btw, our current state of not having licenses for undocumented immigrants is because of a rule change, not a law that went through the legislature). Throughout the special session there was sit-in at the governor’s office and some representatives went on hunger strikes in solidarity. They are calling on Dayton to veto the bill because of that poison pill.   If you made it this far you can probably understand why some people are calling for everything to be vetoed and to start over. Dayton has 14 days to decide and has said he will read the bills thoughtfully. Please let him know your thoughts, thank him for the things he has already said he would veto, and encourage him to protect the people of Minnesota from an extreme agenda that will push us back into structural deficits.   Thank you for sticking with me and for all your hard work and fighting this legislative session. We’re almost at the end, for better or for worse. When word comes out of how Dayton decides on these bills I will let you know. In the meantime, I’m going to take a couple of days off 😊   WatchYourRepsMN     ----------------- Learn more about my plans to expand WatchYourRepsMN and become a supporting member at https://www.patreon.com/watchyourrepsmn

2019 Labor & Employment Predictions Reviewed
Originally published by Brett Holubeck.

If you recall this article from last year article from last year, then you remember that I made some labor and employment predictions for 2019. Some of them came true, but some of them were delayed, likely until 2020. Here is an overview of each of the labor and employment predictions and where the law or issue stands right now.
1. Sexual Harassment Lawsuits Increased
In 2018, the last fiscal year that data is available for sexual harassment lawsuits, the data from the EEOC showed that these lawsuits increased:
The agency also received 7,609 sexual harassment charges – a 13.6 percent increase from FY 2017 – and obtained $56.6 million in monetary benefits for victims of sexual harassment.
The final figures for 2019 are not available yet. However, increasing sexual harassment litigation and charges at the EEOC is a trend that will likely continue. Sexual harassment is not being tolerated in the workplace. Moreover, companies are holding their executives, managers and others to a higher standard than they used to. For example, the CEO of McDonalds stepped down last year for having a consensual  relationship with an employee. Again, that is a consensual relationship without any sexual harassment. Many companies prohibit their C-suite from dating anyone at the company. Every company needs to consider how they can prevent sexual harassment. Training for employees, training for managers, and having an appropriate complaint procedure is absolutely necessary, or it will most certainly cost you in the long run. You can read more of how companies can prevent sexual harassment here and in this recent Chicago Tribune article where I discussed office romance in the workplace.
2. The Supreme Court Has Taken Cases to Determine Whether Sexual Orientation is Protected.
The Supreme Court has consolidated 2 cases (Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia and Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda) to determine whether discrimination against an employee due to their sexual orientation is prohibited employment discrimination “because of sex” under Title VII. The Supreme Court also took a case (R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) to determine “[w]hether Title VII prohibits discrimination against transgender people based on (1) their status as transgender or (2) sex stereotyping under Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins.
Essentially, the first cases will determine if sexual orientation is a protected characteristic under the law (whether it is illegal to discriminate against someone because of their sexual orientation). The second case will determine whether it is illegal to discriminate against someone because they are transgender.
The arguments were in early October; most people expect this to be one of the final decisions that the court issues in June. It is anyone’s guess how these cases will be decided. Most people expect that these cases will be highly divided.
3. The Department of Labor is Increasing the Salary Threshold (but I’m Off by 1 Day).
The Department of Labor did increase the salary threshold to be exempt from overtime (employees must still meet the duties test of one of the exemptions), but I missed my prediction by 1 day (it went into effect on January 1, 2020).
I wrote about this a couple of weeks ago. Here is what the DOL did:
The new overtime salary threshold will be $684 per week (which equals $35,568 per year). The new rule also raises the threshold for the highly compensated category from the current threshold of $100,000 to $107,432 per year. The new rule will also permit employers to use nondiscretionary bonuses and commissions that are paid on at least an annual basis within this count towards meeting the overtime salary threshold (but only up to 10%) of the salary level.
4. Paid Family Leave is Still Coming. It was not Implemented Nationally Last Year, but There Have Been Some States that Have Expanded Paid Leave.
Currently only D.C. and 8 states have passed Paid family leave laws. While no paid family leave proposals were enacted last year at the federal level, several states (and the federal government for its employees) have begun implementing paid family leave or increased paid sick leave.
The House of Representatives has approved a bill to give 12 weeks of paid parental leave to federal workers and President Trump has shown support for the bill.
The state of Washington passed SB 5975 in July 2017 to commence a paid leave program at the start of 2020.
Connecticut passed legislation in 2019 that establishes a paid family leave program. Employers must begin withholding and remitting contributions by January 1, 2021, and employees can begin using the leave on January 1, 2022.
Oregon also passed a law that will take effect in 2023 and will provide 12 weeks of paid time off for parental leave, leave for domestic violence issues, and if the person is ill or caring for a family member that is ill.
Nevada passed a paid leave law that went into effect on January 1 and will apply to employers with 50 or more employees. These employees will generally get 40 hours of leave per year.
Washington D.C. residents will be eligible for paid leave beginning on July 1, 2020. Employees will be able to use “8 weeks to bond with a new child, 6 weeks to care for a family member that has a serious health condition, and 2 weeks to care for their own serious health condition.”
Maine passed a law that will go into effect in January 2021 that will require employers with 10 or more employees to provide up to 40 hours of paid leave every year. It is the first state to allow the leave to be used for any reason rather than merely sick leave.
California passed SB 83 which increased paid family leave from 6 weeks to 8 weeks beginning on July 1, 2020 and increases the wage replacement rate.
With this year being an election year, one should expect that more states will begin to pass paid family leave.
5. NLRB Joint Employer Standard Will be Issued Soon
Again, this one was close. Originally, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) was set to issue the final rule in December 2019, but it has not yet issued the final rule. It has, however, ruled that McDonald’s should not be held responsible for any labor violations of the franchisers (i.e. it is not a joint employer). The final rule was not published in 2019, so employers should expect that it will be published sometime this year.
Moreover, both the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Labor (DOL) are set to issue joint employer rules of their own in 2020.
6. Independent Contractor Issues Did Arise in Many States
This prediction is a big yes. 2019 may be remembered as a tipping point for issues related to independent contractors. However, it is not due to the actions of the federal government.
The change occurred because of state regulations and new legislation. The biggest impact on independent contractors last year came out of California and New Jersey (which may spread to other states in 2020). California passed AB 5 in September of last year and the legislation took effect on January 1, 2020. To be an independent contractor all 3 of the following elements must now be met:
(A) The hiring entity does not control or direct the worker in performing the work in fact or under the terms of a contract;
(B) The work performed is outside the “usual course” of the hiring entity’s business; [and]
(C) The worker is customarily engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, or business of the same nature as that involved in the work performed.
It is very difficult for many workers to meet the second prong (outside the usual course of a company’s business). This prong (and specifics in the bill) is why the new test has come under a lot of controversy from independent truckers  and freelance writers (who are now limited to 35 articles per publication before the company must hire them as employees, and as a result being hurt by this new law). These individuals are losing their flexibility due to the law as they can no longer be independent contractors.
Of course, the law will have an impact on the major companies in the gig economy (Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, etc.), but many of these companies do not plan on transitioning their independent contractors to employees right away as they plan to argue that these workers are not a part of their core business. For example, Uber will argue that they are a technology platform for several different digital marketplaces (Uber, Uber Eats, etc.) that match providers (drivers) and customers (riders) and their drivers are thus independent contractors.
New Jersey was also a major player in changing the landscape of independent contractors this past year. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development issued a $649 million fine to Uber for unpaid unemployment and disability insurance taxes, which Uber is challenging. Essentially, the ruling was for Uber failing to pay taxes for these workers because they were misclassified as independent contractors rather than employees.
7. Medical Marijuana Protections Update
Marijuana laws have continued to change all across the country. The Health Employment and Labor blog from Epstein Becker Green does a nice job explaining the past year of marijuana changes.
Illinois became the 11th state to legalize the use of recreational marijuana and the law took effect on January 1, 2020. Under the law, employers in Illinois may still take action against employees or applicants that fail a drug test provided that it is in the employer’s reasonable policy.
Epstein Becker Green’s blog also notes that:
New Mexico and Oklahoma each passed legislation that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees because of their status as registered medical marijuana users; however, the Oklahoma law does provide an exception for safety-sensitive jobs and for situations which the employee possesses, consumes or is under the influence of marijuana at work.
In Nevada, a new law taking effect on January 1, 2020, prevents employers from failing or refusing to hire an applicant because the applicant tests positive for marijuana. Perhaps not surprisingly, New York City went one step further when it passed an Int. 1445-A, barring most employers from conducting any pre-employment testing for marijuana or THC.
Similarly, New Jersey now prohibits employers from disciplining or terminating an employee solely based on that individual’s status as a registered medical marijuana user.  While the law does not prevent employers from prohibiting or disciplining employees from using marijuana during work hours or on workplace premises, Garden State employers with a drug testing policy are required to offer employees and applicants who test positive the opportunity to explain the positive result.
Companies should expect more changes in marijuana law in 2020.
8. ICE and Notice of Inspection Statistics
We are still waiting to see the exact numbers for 2019, however,  Miriam Jordan’s New York Times article, More Than 2,000 Migrants Were Targeted in Raids. 35 Were Arrested, confirms that 3,282 Notices of Inspection were issued as of July 22, 2019. The article also provides key statistics from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It appears that notices of inspection are at least on pace to be at an increased level from the Obama administration.
9. DACA’s Constitutionality to be Determined in 2020
The Supreme Court has consolidated three cases that concern DACA (Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California, Trump v. NAACP, McAleenan v. Vidal)
As I said in a prior post:
These cases basically deal with whether the Department of Homeland has the authority to end the program which 700,000 people rely on. Trump has expressed support for DACA, but wants Congress to act on a more permanent solution (likely as part of a wider deal on immigration).
I thought that the Supreme Court would have accepted the case a bit earlier than they did (in first half of 2019), but the case was ultimately not on the 2018-2019 docket. It is instead on the 2019-2020 docket, so we will get an answer on the constitutionality of the DACA program this year. Everyone expects this to be one of the most contentious cases this term with a decision in late June 2020.
10. Work Authorization for the spouses of H-1B Visa Holders with an Approved I-140 (Essentially their Employer Sponsored Green Card Petition) Will Likely be Determined in 2020.
I thought that the government would have reached a decision on the Employment Authorization Documents for spouses of H-1B visa holders with an approved I-140 (there are some immigrants that are waiting 10 or more years from the approval of their employer sponsored petition for them to become green card holders to them finally becoming permanent residents) in 2019. Fortunately, there has been a delay, which is great for H-1B visa holders as their spouses can continue to renew their work authorization until a decision is issued.
Big Law Business from Bloomberg law explains the current state of the law:
The fate of H-4 employment authorization hangs in the balance as 2019 [came] to a close. It’s been nearly a year since the Department of Homeland Security sent the Office of Management and Budget a proposed rule that would rescind a 2015 regulation extending certain H-4 visa holders—the spouses of H-1B professional workers—the opportunity to seek U.S. employment.
The DHS has offered little explanation as to why the rule remains unpublished, but recently affirmed its commitment to proceed with rescission as early as spring 2020, albeit referring to that timeframe as “aspirational.”
In the meantime, H-4 employment authorization faces a second, more pressing threat. On Nov. 8, in Save Jobs USA v. DHS, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit held that a group of American IT workers has standing to challenge the H-4 regulation.
The court remanded the case to the district court to address the merits of Save Jobs’ claim—that the DHS lacks authority to extend employment authorization to H-4 spouses absent explicit congressional direction.
Essentially, there is now a court case that will be decided over the next year or two (through a decision and appeals) and a regulation that may be released in 2020 (however, that is what the agency said in 2019 so we will see if that holds true) that will provide clarity on the issue. Of course, if a Democratic candidate is elected in 2020, then these individuals will likely keep their work authorization (or will regain it in 2021).
Conclusion
2019 was a huge year for labor and employment law. 2020 will be another big year as the current administration tries to put out more regulations and decisions before the 2020 presidential election. I will follow along with these pending cases this year, and address them here as decisions are made. I also be making some more labor and employment predictions for 2020, so stay tuned.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2020- and for those of you who have already broken your resolution (did you already eat that piece of pie you swore off of? I know I did.), remember every single day is a day for progress. Cheers to that!

Licence and car insurance in different names?
"Licence and car insurance in different names?
I have recently married and have taken my husbands name. This means for ID purposes I have changed my last name on my driving licence. However out of spite I chose not to change it on my car insurance as it meant paying an admin fee and rather change it when it comes up for renewal in 6 months. Car Insurance question?
So I'm going out of town for a couple nights with my mom and sister. My mom owns the car we're taking and she's insured under it... but we're wondering if my sister can get a temporary insurance policy for this car so that she could do some of the driving on our trip. My sister has her G license.

What would the insurance be on a 2004 Saturn Vue?
My parents are being extremely kind and letting me get my license. Along with the license, they are offering to pay half of the price for a car for my and my brother. We are extremely tight on money, but they are being incredibly generous, so I thought it would be good to get an older, but safe, fuel-efficient car. I thought a Saturn Vue would be perfect. I'm 16 and my brother is 18. We are all going to be on the same insurance plan, and we are both (in my opinion) very good drivers. Does anyone know how much the insurance would be on a 2004 Saturn Vue? If it's too much, we would go with either a Ford Focus or a Honda Civic (we wanted a bigger car because we have both been rear-ended in our car driving home from high school. Both cars needed thousands of dollars of repairs and we needed rehab from our injuries as well. The bigger the car, the safer it is...while still keeping that fuel-efficiency). Thanks so much!""

How can I lower my auto insurance?
I am 20 years old. I live in Florida which is by far the WORST states to have auto insurance. I've only been in 2 accidents, both not my fault. One was a small fender bender (which my friend decided to get a PIP claim even though he didnt get hurt so he could snag some money from the government). The other i totaled my car, but that was over 2 YEARS AGO. This is a no fault state which sucks because both of them werent my fault!!!!! Currently my auto insurance is 253 dollars! I'm a college student and i CANNOT afford that, but thats the cheapest one I found. Geico and all the popular ones wont even look at me. And it also adds on the my mom was in an accident (also not at fault) she got hit from behind at a red light and of course they penalized her for that too. Florida is a fraud state, they penalize you for everything when its no fault. Does anyone know how i can lower my auto insurance? It's been 2 years since I totaled my car and almost 2 and a half 3 years from the small fender bender. I also got a small speeding ticket from maybe september or december of last year, but thats it. no other tickets. thanks!""

Ok, before I start, I DO know that its not going to be cheap but I want to figure out the best way to get insurance. (This is in the UK by the way) Well, I turned 17 a few days, got my provisional today, and am thinking, uh oh - look at these insurance quotes. Is it a good idea to get my name added onto my parent's insurance policy? They're with Tesco car insurance. Apparently this lowers costs but is it worth it, and is there anything better? Car Insurance Claim Help?
Car Insurance Claim Help? On the 4/7/2011 I was at a set of traffic lights that was (RED) of my way to the shops. As the lights went green I begin to move off slowly as I did another car came from the left of me and tried to turn right as he speed up he crashed into the drivers side of the car. He clearly jumped a red light (Clearly Seen on CCTV). I was in total shock at the time! After he crashed into my car he went to drive off by reversing, I jumped out of my car to stood in his was so he could not drive off the witness behind me called the police while I was stopping his from driving off he started to drive forwards trying to me me out the way. After the driver spoke to the police on the phone, he then gave me his Name, Phone number and Insurance information. The next day I called my insurance company they was vary helpful and I believe the clam would be settled in my favor as I had CCTV of the crash as I had a camera inside of my car and a witness that was behind my car at the time of the crash. After nearly 4Months I have now revived a letter stating that the claim has been closed on a Without Prejudice Basis. When I contacted Aviva to see what the 3rd party has not accepted full liability they said it was dealt with like this as the 3rd party who crashed into me was not responding to and calls or letters that have send him. Aviva did not asked to see the CCTV of the crash and did not take into account the witness statement. WHAT CAN I DOOO??""

Question about different garaging address on insurance policy?
I had had my license for 6 years in October, and called my insurance company to make sure my rate would go down. While on the phone, the rep and I got to chatting and I mentioned to her that I have been staying most nights (6-7 nights per week) at a different address for over a year now, but my license and policy are still listed at my mother's address. The rep explained the garaging address can be changed without changing the billing address if the two are different. Today I received an email about being refunded the difference at the end of my policy term. I didn't realize the changes would generate such a huge difference in price (The zip code of the town I have been staying in has a low crime rate and my mother's address is in a city). I realize people change their address to commit fraud, and now seeing such a difference in rate, I want to sure there is no legal ambiguity- I want to be crystal clear on what garaging implies and what I need to be aware of. 1) Am I in a gray area...If I go home for a weekend? If I lend the car to my brother for a few days? Do I need to be at the garaged address 80% of the time? 100%? I almost want to call them and ask to change it back just so as not have to worry. 2) Also, what would generate the bigger rate difference- the garaging change or the fact that I have had my license for 6 years? (is there a way to tell? Can I request a revised policy? 3) I am planning to replace my car soon, possibly donating it by the end of the year (very old car with continuous engine problems), so I will need to cancel my policy before it is up in April. Will this complicate things further? Any advice or resources are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and thank you for reading!""

What size alloy wheels will change the insurance of a car? (read details)?
right i've been looking at cars to buy for ages now and as I'm a seventeen year old boy insurance is ridiculous as it is. Finding cars that i can afford to buy and insure is hard. I have found a few 'perfect' cars, however a couple of them have alloy wheels instead of the standard manufacture ones. I will quote my insurance website so you can help me out: Replacement of factory fitted wheels with Alloys of the same size this doesn't alter my insurance quote one bit. Replacement of factory fitted wheels with wheels / tyres of a non standard size or specification This means i cannot get insured at all; they won't have me with them. So my question is, if a 1998 Peugeot 306 has 16 inch white wolfrace alloys, does this mean i can't get insured or not? This might be a stupid question, just want to get it right, thanks for you time, means a lot Alex.""

""Families who live in America, how much is your health insurance per month?""
In an earlier question I mentioned that my boyfriend's parents are paying for his 24-year-old sister's health insurance after she got laid off and couldn't find another position and can't afford health care on her own, to the tune of $175 a month (and she's perfectly healthy) and was floored when someone said that was actually inexpensive. Btw, her parents insist on her having health care coverage for fear of her getting in an accident or whatever. I'm 17 and am quite obviously naive about the costs of health insurance, but I'm really curious about it, and would like to know how much it usually costs for a family to have health insurance in America. I'm in California. I don't know if it's more expensive depending on your state. If if you don't mind answering, how much do you pay per year, and how many people are in your family? Does it become more expensive as your kids get older? What kind of plan do you have? Through work or your own? Are you supportive of universal health coverage? Also: does anyone understand how Medicare / MediCal works and who decides who is covered and who isn't? Is it based on your yearly income? I'm asking because one of the reasons my boyfriend's parents want his sister to have insurance is that another family friend of ours broke her jaw in a roller blading accident when she was 26 and didn't have insurance because she was unemployed at the time, and not being able to pay the $15,000 hospital bill killed her credit score. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just really curious about all this.""

This might be long but PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. When I was 15 my grandfather (Legally my father, always lived with him) had always promised me he would get me driver's ed but he never did. A few months before I was 18 I moved out and in an apartment with my fiance. My fiance went to college 5 hours away the day after my 18th. After I turned 18 (July 25) I wanted to get my license, and I know how to do it. My fiance came back from college last weekend and took me to buy a used car for 400. Its a beater, but it drives. It has no insurance and no license plates. Im caught in a super circle. I cant get to SOS or DMV to even apply for my permit without 1) a ride and 2) insurance. I cant get plates to even drive it illegally without a license. I cant get insurance because, from what Im figuring out, just about no body will insure someone without a license. My grandfather will -not- put me on his insurance to save our lives and I need a car to get back and forth to work. (Walking 5 miles? Nah...) What am I supposed to do???? I cant pay a whole lot for insurance as Im now living alone in an apartment on a crappy salary. I had a decent salary until my work decided to super hire and how we are severely over staffed... What to do!?""

I am a foreign student and I am about to drive a car!!!!! I am so excited, but there's a problem: Car insurance. I do not have any family in United States, so I have to get my own insurance. Thankfully, I am 18 years old, so it is possible. But however, I am going back to my home country in summer which means I don't need to drive. Is it possible to cancle the car insurance over the summer?""

Who insures the insurance companies?
Just out of curiosity who insures the insurance companies? Do they insure themselves? If so, due to all the bureaucratic BS do they have to pay a deductible to themselves? Or are they insured by other companies? Is it just one big circle? For example: Company X's building gets destroyed by a tornado, do they pay for everything or are they insured by Company Y.""

Young driver insurance in the UK?
I was quoted 1200 the beginning of this month for car insurance (its due feb, but I regularly look at quotes). I then looked the 23rd and was quoted over 2000 for identical insurance (just by refreshing the quote). It has then increased drastically every day by around 1000 so its now looking at over 5000 a year to insure a 2007 FORD KA!!! I'm 17 and have 6 months no claims, plus the time I had no claims as a learner too (another 4 months). I understand that the equal insurance for men & women effects this and due to my age insurance is high, but two of my male friends insurance is shooting up too. I'm in a pretty good area, don't drive that much (3000 miles a year) and have both parents with 25+ years driving on my policy. How can my insurance possibly be increasing be so much? What can I do to bring it down, other then selling a car I need? I need a car to get from school to work in time (or I won't have a job), and I don't earn nearly enough to afford car insurance with the quotes I'm getting right now. Its a complete rip-off.""

Licence and car insurance in different names?
I have recently married and have taken my husbands name. This means for ID purposes I have changed my last name on my driving licence. However out of spite I chose not to change it on my car insurance as it meant paying an admin fee and rather change it when it comes up for renewal in 6 months. Does the different names invalidate my insurance?
