Ok but, more detailed thoughts on SM149 JN111 below the cut!

Like HOLY COW did they not waste time at ALL with finding Mohn, I ended up loving that approach so much! The episode starts with Research Fellow trio being informed of some mysterious Pokémon found in the Crown Tundra (I guess the japanese name is The Snowfield of the Crown, localised name is kinda easier to say), and after Lilie, Lusamine and Gladio end up finding Mohn in a state of memory loss, we find out that he's been living WITH A FRICKING UTSUROID!! Shiny even! And like, all this time, he thought it was Lilie. Because Utsuroid made him see it as such. Oh god, this Utsuroid... ;-;

And like, once again I wasn't spoiled on anything regarding the ep, so when Satoshi, Gou and Koharu hear about a witness talk about a white Pokémon (the rest I was unable to understand, only white description), I thought it was gonna be Calyrex or Glastier lol. But nooooo, it's shiny Utsuroid. Which honestly fits way better and fits with the whole "Ultra Beasts reside in The Crown Tundra in Galar in the games as well" idea i wanted the anime to adapt asjkfhshkf. And y'know, this is as good as any.

BUT OH GOSH MY HEART, I collapsed real hard when Lilie played Mother and Daughter theme from Alola at the start, and then it became a theme in the ep, and like, props to the animators making the piano play accurate as heck.

And can we talk about how fricking well Lusamine's role was done in the ep, like Lilie was the true protag of the ep, and Gladio did some really nice stuff in the ep too, but LUSAMINE MY DEAR, she was.... oh god the shock she had when Mohn didn't recognize her was so heart-breaking, it's EXACTLY what I wanted, and yet I broke down again because ohgod they nailed that face, they fricking nailed it. You bet I'll be trying to gif it askhsfjhsf. As many other scenes jkahsfjh.

And like, the whole situation Mohn was living in was really sad, because Utsuroid ended up hiding every single mirror in the house, so its true from wouldn't reflect on it, and also to prevent Mohn from remembering and abandoning it? Like, it seems pretty twisted, but in the end, this shiny Utsuroid, who Mohn actually called Lilie, ended up being a kind one who just wanted to protect Mohn. ALSO THEY REALLY WENT AND MADE THE POPULAR FAN THEORY OF LILIE BEING UTSUROID A PLOT POINT WHAT THE HELL-

And the way I screamed so happily at Pikachu coming to save Lilie, Satoshi shouting Iron Tail, sakjsfjhsfjsfhfsjsf I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP SO MUCH AND I JUST, ooooh I felt so home, I felt like I was watching Sun & Moon, I enjoyed the ride of the ep so fricking much.

And and and and and when Mohn remembers the kids again, OH MY FRICKING, Lusamine's face was so, UUUGH it was so good, her beloved husband finally remembered her and she was so, you could tell she was releaved and so fricking happy. I'm happy for her too. We finally have an Aether Family, happy with all four members. Oh, sorry. FIVE!

They end up being thankful for Lilie the Utsuroid for taking care of Mohn all these years, for saving him from the accident aftermath, and they catch it in a Beast Ball. And I just.... fricking hell, LILIE WAS TRAUMATIZED BY UTSUROID, and now she befriended the one who took care of Mohn, her father, all these years, and took her form in an illusion.

And I I I I I i, hhhnnngghh there was still a lot of dialogue I need subtitles for but this was THE ABSOLUTE BEST episode JN has delivered so far. The best. Why do Aether Family eps rock so hard man-

Yeeeh Shiron didn't evolve but it isn't on a must-happen list for me, just a would-like-for-it-to-happen list, and it can still happen, but I don't mind, it really didn't fit into the episode plot and it was SO fricking beautifully crafted that yes. This is now SM149 and Sun & Moon never ended what do you mean it's been two and a half years since SM146-

Und da sind wir wieder. Wie Anfang des Jahres als ich meinen Rewatch beendet habe und wie damals am letzten Tag vor Gen 8. Diesmal aber einen letzten Tag vor Gen 9

Die letzte Folge ist richtig schön hat sooo viel und ist emotional. Der Alola vibe bleibt, Scenery, die Gruppe. Kann ich die Folge überhaupt beschrieben? Da geht so viel ab, und auch so viel was ich nicht mal beschreiben könnte. Alle wollten sie Lillie überraschen und dann kam Ash mit seiner Nachrichtig. Ich mag wie Ash und diesen vibe zum Abschied gibt, weil er öfter auf Dinge reagiert mit seinem Ziel im Kopf, die Abschiede waren richtig traurig, hab wieder geweint,

Abschied von TR war nicht das krasseste, aber doch schön und traurig, dass sie zum ersten Mal sowas bekommtn. Abschied von Lillie auch schön, weil sie ein letztes Mal so niedlich war, die ganze Szene auch so gut wie sie den Support von allen hat und die Szene auf dem Schiff ist sooo gut

Morgen kommt Gen 9, also schreibe ich doch mehr zur Folge. Zu Lillie wohl erneut ein Post, aber ihre Szene hier ist so toll. Ich liebe wie sie Ash vorher noch danken wollte, ihr das so auf der Seele lag, aber dann Gladio was sagte und dann lief sie zum Ende des Schiffes, WEIL sie Ash eifnach so sehr danken wollte.

Sie RAMMTE sogar ein paar, weil sie andere Prios hatte und das ist ne schöne Szene. icht nur so von ihren Shots und weil für die Szenen die Charakter Animation besser ist, sondern dieser Moment einfach als Ganzes. So dieser schöne vibe war da,d er natürlich durch die Charakter Bewegungen verstärkt wird, weil das ein wichiger Moment war und wie sie einfach Ash dankt. Danke war in der Folge eh wichtig und ich liebe es

Der Dialog da am Strand ist auch richtig schön. Das schöne Setting und was ich an SM auch mag: Viele Dialoge haben durch die VAs so einen anderen vibe, weil die so passend gesprochen sind,

Die Konversation zwischen Rotom und Ash ist nicht nur so normal, auch deren Ton, Ausdruck und WIE sich das anfühlt ist so anders. Und ich liebe, wenn die Leute, die an sowas beteiligt sind, sowas vermitteln können Die Stimmen so ruhig und einfach schön

Ich fand diese Szene auch toll. Es gibt ja keine UB mehr, die sie nicht gesehen haben, aber so für die Narrative und um dem das abenteuerliche zu verleihen, hatte Ash ein Abenteuer woanders. Auch mit Song. So irre wie das mit Nebby gemacht wird und es nochmal in de rletzten Folge kommt

Es ist so süß wie Lillie nochmal auf alle Freunde eingeht und denen schrieben will usw. Wie süß sie das einfach macht

Der Abschied auch sooo gut. Da hat man echt diese Stimmung von der Serie. Das Setting, die Umarmung, auch der Ton einiger Dialoge, besonders das Danke trägt wieder so viel bei. Burnet ist hier wie der Zuschauer, sie am heulen ich auch und so. Ist einfach eine tolle Szene

Und wie die anderen nochmal Ash überraschen, bester Abschied, auch das Scenery und wie Ash emotional wird.

Mallow hat so die Aufgabe alle anderen zu verabschieden. Bei der Szene von Lana sieht man, dass sie so anders schaut. So froh, dass andere auf ihre Ziele gehen, aber sie bleibt zurück. Sow ehmütig halt..

Und das mit Shaymin. Ich bin immer noch sehr sicher, dass es quasi die Mutter darstellen sollte, zumindest symbolisch. Die Wimpern und dann die Gracidea und Blumen im Wind wie bei der Folge auf Poni.

Bei dieser Serie haben die einfach so viel Symbolik etc, das muss einfach so sein. Shaymin hatte zwar keinen krassen Fokus, war aber halt die Symbolik aus der Mutter Szene, quais als Geschenk und jetzt geht es und da wird bisschen Fokus gelegt.

So here we are...the final episode of Pokémon Sun and Moon.

The thing that stands out to me the most is that it really didn’t feel like a “conclusion” like all the past series finales. Only a few of our cast is really “leaving” and the rest just going on a study vacation. That said, simply moving forward can be conclusive in itself, and that kind of sentiment really drives home the fact that even though everyone is separated, the heart of Alola lives on.

Lillie represented the impact that Ash had for the entire Alolan gang. Going off to find her dad with Gladion and Lusamine is exactly the next step in her personal growth, and I couldn’t be happier for her. I’m sure the shippers had a heart attack watching that scene without any subs lol.

Then we have Team Rocket, who thankfully had a lot more closure than I was expecting. I fully expected them to leave everyone with Bewear, but the writers actually delved into their emotional reservations about parting ways. I’m a little upset that the TRio just left while their ‘mons were asleep, but I’ll just assume they had their tearful goodbyes off-screen, m’kay? I loved the resolution that Mimikyu went through with its Pika-hatred, especially with Meowth comforting the friend that’s killed him repeatedly. Between that, James leaving his Z-ring with Mareanie, and Bewear sending them off with a hug and yeet, I’m happy that the TR Alolan family left on good terms.

And then, there’s Ash. To be honest, the boy didn’t really need much personal struggles about leaving as that’s already been established. It was more so on how his departure would affect the others. After stalling and a random UB mission with Nebby (seriously, it just appeared out of nowhere) it made sense that it culminated in all his friends figuring out what would happen even before Ash had to spell it out. That one final Alolan surprise brought a tear to my eye.

But by far, the most impactful part of this episode was the goodbye between Ash and his Alolan parents, Kukui and Burnet. There was no need for overblown dramatics. In a refreshing pace, the scene was quiet and subdued, but emotionally devastating all the same. We don’t really see much of Ash’s familial relationships, and seeing how much this little kid has brought the professors such joy just left me crying on the floor.

And so, it’s business as usual in Alola. Having Mallow take up so much of the ending was a little odd pacing-wise, but a good resolution altogether. I also saw someone mention how Shaymin was actually the reincarnation of Mallow’s mom and I’m shrieking.

Lastly, Burnet’s bun in the oven. Absolutely perfect.

It was a fun ride full of laughs, badassery, and truly heartrending moments. The Sun and Moon series pretty much exceeded my expectations in all fronts, and I can only hope that the Pokéani will keep its stride going from here on out.

Honestly, there's a LOT of fav eps for me in each series, but those are to say the few. YES, there are many good eps in JN, never denied that, but I don't like how the overall structure feels like a mess still lol.
