bit of a professional rolling stone. never been able to hold a steady job, and has never wanted to. always convinced his professional rap career would take off, or perhaps -- in this land of opportunity he’d be a big time actor. or once he’d even picked up a baseball bat and swore he’d go professional. always reaching for the stars and coming up with a fistful of empty. his head is always in the clouds, but we love him anyway. if you saw him in a famous body soap commercial, no you didn’t. originally from atlanta, ga.

                                           MARLA’S FAMILY
Henrik Samuelsson [Mikael Persbrandt] (50) — Agricultural engineer, wildlife conservationist and fisherman. Lives in Mölle. Evelyn Price [Lily Rabe] (47) — CEO and founder of Loop, a wellness and lifestyle brand. Lives in Toronto and New York. Marlena ‘Marla’ Olivia Price-Samuelsson [Ellie Bamber] (24) — Creative Writing MFA student and Onlyfans content creator. Lives in Los Angeles. Noelle Julie Price-Samuelsson [Erin Moriarty] (21) — recent graduate from the University of Edinburgh. Lives in Gothenburg.
Not pictured: Hermann, 2, Marla’s stray cat.
**BONUS**
What would your family’s Latin motto or House words be? House Samuelsson — Excellence Above All
Where is your family originally from? Marla’s family is from Sweden and Canada. Her parents met at university in Toronto, and upon graduating promptly left for Sweden. Marla was born in Gothenburg and Noelle in Stockholm. They’ve lived between the two cities, but mostly called Gothenburg home.
What fictional family is your family’s counterpart? Probably the Bennet family, from Pride and Prejudice.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why. Marla loves all of her family, but she’s the closest to Noelle. They grew up together and have a million memories shared, are as different as night and day but still best friends.
Is there a black sheep in the family? Not really. Maybe Henrik, since he lives so remote from everyone else and at times communicating with him can be erratic. But he means well.
Most memorable family vacation? Croatia, 2007. Wanting to explore different parts of the city, the family split up, Marla and her mum going together to visit museums and Noelle and Henrik to sightsee around the town. They had a rendez-vous in the afternoon at a beach, but Henrik mixed up locations and accidentally ended up on a nudist beach. Noelle has been traumatised ever since.
Describe your family in one word. Eccentric.
If you family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed? Henrik would without a doubt be the most helpful with all his knowledge, although both siblings would pitch in. Evelyn would probably be the least helpful. No one would be getting sacrificed though, they’d find some sort of solution or compromise.

THE FORD FAMILY ➟ TASK 2: FAMILY
Beckham Ford (JDM),  57 / Taurus / Bar Owner ➟
Father Beckham, the coolest man Fallon has ever met. No that is not up for debate ever. He is in fact the best, protective papa bear with a heart of gold. The prison tattoos make him look incredibly threatening (and he is), but one look at how he interacts with Fallon will tell you there is so much more to this man than meets the eye.
Julia Bennet (Kate Beckinsale) , 56 / Virgo / Teacher ➟
Mother Julia, a patient and resilient woman with a smile like warm candy floss. She met Beckham when she became a regular at his bar. And what she thought would be a wild streak. stuck in a way she hadn’t planned. She’s been through the ringer when it comes to her romantic partners and managed to rebuild not once but twice in the aftermath of them. Despite this however she wouldn’t trade her kids for the world.
Bowie Shore (Chace Crawford), 31 / Sagittarius / Owner of Ready Player One ➟
Older half-brother by blood and full bestie by choice, you know him you love him. Fallon met Bowie when she moved back to Silver Lake. Fallon followed Bowie around like a lost puppy a lot in the beginning, very eager to hang out with this new side of her family. Now they’re thick as thieves, and she likes to jokingly say she grew on him like moss. @bowieshore
Fallon Ford (Jodie Comer), 25 / Scorpio / Games Operator ➟
The youngest, the neon loving, screwdriver wielding Fallon Ford. She loves all the people above, and is grateful for every single one of them.
**BONUS**
What would your family’s Latin motto or House words be? Fallon would totally steal the Martell’s words if she could for her family. However if she can’t: Igne natura renovatur integra.(Through fire, nature is reborn whole.)
Where is your family originally from?  Mom’s side is from Silverlake, Dad’s from Chicago. Fallon’s been a bit of both.
What fictional family is your family’s counterpart? There isn’t a fictional family that comes to mind that can perfectly encapsulate their brand of endless love and a little dysfunction. But if she had to try to define her relationships with her family members as TV versions that’s easy: her and dad are Veronica & Keith Mars. Her and Mom: Lux & Cate Cassidy from life unexpected. Her and Bowie are: well no one comes up to their awesomeness but River & Simon Tam come close.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why. You can’t pick a favorite in a family full of favorites. Of course they each excel in different areas, but she loves being around them. Bowie is the person she definitely hangs out with most, Beck is the person she listens to the most and Julia is the person she jokes with most. But all of them are good at everything in takes to be there for someone. It’s just which approach is going to fit the situation best.
Is there a black sheep in the family? No because they are literally: a collection of black sheeps so none of their oddness stands out it just blends in with each other.
Most memorable family vacation? They haven’t been on a big family vacay yet: tragic.
Describe your family in one word: Charismatic.
If your family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed? Most helpful? Beckham, he’s full of MacGyver style hacks from his stints behind bars. Second would be Mom because it’s her literal job to know things. Fallon is probably getting sacrificed because she was quoting too many tiktoks.

Father - Lucas Bennett -  Police Psychologist - deceased
Mother - Amara Bennett - Artist and cultural Historian - deceased
Possible Father - Rev Peter Richmond - whereabouts unknown
Grandma - Lorelei Bennett - deceased
Grandpa - Clark Bennett - Deceased
Murder :tw  serial killer :tw
Before Axel ( Christian Bennett) Was born, his father Lucas was a homicide psychologist who  interviewed a suspected serial killer, but without any evidence had  to watch as the man was let go.  Lucas loved his job and his wife who  worked as a historian focusing on society and how we had evolved through time. After they met in a Wendy’s food outlet, they started dating and within a year were married. But life  wasn't as rosy as they thought. Lucas began to work all the time leaving Amara alone at home.
One night she was at a church choir practice when she met the new reverend Paul  Richmond. She grew close to him while her husband worked every hour to get a serial killer which was  terrorising Texas.  Amara never told anyone but she had slept with Paul just once after a huge fight with her husband.  Three months later she was pregnant and Paul had left town. It brought Lucas and Amara back together and they were happy again. Then the serial killer struck again after Axel was born. Lucas told the police that the man they had interviewed before needed to be questioned again. The police ignored him and told him to butt out. Two days later both him and his wife were murdered while Axel lay sleeping in his cot in the next room.
From there Axel was sent to live with his strong Granma and laid back grandpa. He loved them both dearly. At the age of four, a man came to the door claiming he was really Axel’s father. The similarity was uncanny, but his grandma sent him away stating she had lost enough in her life to lose the only thing her daughter had left her with. Axel never saw the man again. The could be why he has such a obsession with religious iconography and the colour black, as through the screen door, Axel could tell that the man was dressed in black and white and wore a cross.

WE ARE FAMILY → PIERCE HARRINGTON
(SLTASK02, FAMILY)
Father: Harrison Harrington, 58, Unaware.
Mother: Delilah Harrington (née Hargrove), 54, Nurse Practitioner.
Pierce Harrington, 34, Owner of Book Nook.
Sister: Lorna Harrington, 30, Fashion Store Manager.
Sister: Genevieve Harrington, 26, Record Store Assistant Manager.
What would your family’s Latin motto or House words be?
Dum spiro, spero/Where there's life there's hope.
Where is your family originally from?
Lincoln, Nebraska. As far as he’s aware.
What fictional family is your family’s counterpart?
Probably the Dunphy’s from Modern Family without Phil. Lorna is the replica of Haley, Pierce was a slightly smarter version of Luke growing up, and Genevieve definitely shows some traits of Alex. Their mother was also very hands on and a workaholic, much like Claire.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why.
It would probably be his mother, as he knows how much she’s had to sacrifice in order to take care of her three children once their father left. He respects her and admires her more than anyone else in the entire world. She’s always kept a brave face too, which is something Pierce has noticed and appreciates silently.
Is there a black sheep in the family?
Nobody, except perhaps their father.
Most memorable family vacation?
The only vacation they could afford to go on was when Pierce was fourteen and it was to their aunt’s in Florida after her mother got a cheap deal on flights after receiving her bonus one year. Among visiting the beach and learning to surf, the Harrington siblings stood outside Disney World for hours staring into the park and catching glimpses of what they could, but just happy to be near such a magical place. It was the best time they ever had together.
Describe your family in one word.
Survivors.
If you family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed?
Genevieve is very smart, not only academically, but in other ways that she’s picked up from their upbringing. Therefore, she’d be the most helpful. Of course, he wouldn’t want any of his siblings to suffer. Although Pierce wouldn’t admit it to anyone, he’d sacrifice Lorna if it was needed. They’ve never really gotten along, due to their differing views of the world and her lack of appreciation for the struggles their family has been through.

ECCLESTON FAMILY
Timothy Eccleston, January 17, 1968  -- airline pilot
Tim is probably the friendliest member of Eccleston clan. He loves having chit chats with his neighbors, he always encourages his kids to be polite and friendly, he tries his best to support their kids’ decisions even though he has some doubts about them. He’s not worried about Mackenzie, he knows his daughter is capable of taking care of herself but when it comes to Ian, he is as concerned as the rest of the family. Due to his hectic work schedule, he wasn’t around when the kids were growing up, while Macky was completely fine with it, Ian always blamed his father for being a negligent parent.
Joan Eccleston, April 26, 1969 -- elementary school teacher
Joan is a high-strung, eccentric suburban mother. She quit her job after having Ian, so she ended up channelling all her energy into raising her kids. She is very protective, hell even sometimes possessive over her children. While Ian was enjoying his mother’s attention, Macky never liked being under her microscope. Despite their clashing personalities, Macky still loves her mother dearly.
Ian Eccleston, March 11, 1991 -- unemployed/musician
Ian is Mackenzie’s older brother, also her best friend. Even though he is the older one, she always felt like she was responsible of him, it’s mostly because of Ian and his bipolar disorder. For a really long time, he refused to see a therapist and get help, this was hard on the family but they did their best to support Ian and his dreams. Still though, he has so much resentment towards his father, he is somewhat close to his mother but his favorite is Mackenzie. He used to be in a band called Bueller’s Club but he was sort of kicked out after an incident, which led a nervous breakdown. After that, he stayed in a mental hospital for a few months. Currently he is making scores for short movies, he’s also making music for Mackenzie’s mockumentaries as well.
Mackenzie Alice Eccleston, May 19, 1996 -- projectionist
Without an argument, Mackenzie is the snarkiest member of her family. This causes tension between her and her mother but her father finds her remarks very amusing. She’s closer to her father than her mother, mostly because Tim never cared much about Macky’s academics like her mother did. Joan, on the other hand, was pretty much obsessed with Macky’s grades, she would put so much pressure on her daughter. This was coming from a loving and caring place though, so Macky somewhat understood. In high school, she made a documentary for a class and it ended up winning an award for it, which made her decide to study film in college. Initially she didn’t want to leave her family but her parents (especially Ian) convinced her to attend Oberlin. After graduating college, she moved Silver Lake with her college roommate Montana, they live in Oasis Apartments. She’s looking for an opportunity to work in movie business, her dream job would be working for Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s Documentary Now. As of now, she’s working as a projectionist at Cinema Paradiso, constantly judging your movie choices.
Where is your family originally from?
Macky’s parents were born and raised in Maine, they were high school sweethearts. Their house is full of high school pictures of her parents, most of them were taken at their proms. Most people find this cute but Macky constantly find herself grimacing at her parents’ embarrassing photos.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why.
It’s certainly Ian. Despite their age difference, they spent every minute of their childhood together. Even though Ian was the older sibling, it felt like Mackenzie was the one. They are very protective of each other, especially Mackenzie. There were no secrets between them, whenever something good or bad happens to Macky, Ian was the first person she would call.
Is there a black sheep in the family?
Ian could be considered as a black sheep due to his emotional demeanor. The rest of the family is very much in control of their emotions.
Most memorable family vacation?
Since their father is an airline pilot, Eccleston family got to travel for free, they pretty much visited every city in Europe. However there was one particular vacation Macky could never forget and it was the Paris, Disneyland one. She was only eight and her brother Ian was thirteen, they ended up riding all the rides more than once, to the point Ian puking on himself because he couldn’t handle the speed of the rollercoaster. While that was an embarrassing memory on Ian’s part, Macky finds it amusing.

Ralph Birk Task 002 - Meet the Birks
// answering ooc...
What would your family’s Latin motto or House words be?
Family is Hope, Protect it Always. Stolen but fitting nonetheless.
Where is your family originally from?
The San Francisco Bay area, for Ralph and his Ex-wife, Dinah. His children were born in various parts of California or out of state.
What fictional family is your family’s counterpart?
Honestly, maybe The Proud Family?
Your character’s favorite family member, and why.
Ralph is NOT going to pick a favorite child omg that is a sure fire way of getting in trouble. He loves all his children equally of course BUT definitely, definitely spoils his daughters. Especially Mae, the youngest. They are both Daddy’s girls at heart. He’d put all of his sons in a headlock for different reasons. It’s out of love.
Is there a black sheep in the family?
His eldest, Sutton (who to be fair is in a metal band) probably thinks he’s the black sheep but in reality it might be one of the “twins” Grace or John. Grace, is such a free spirit, very much like her mother (maybe too much) which is why they’re always bumping heads. This is also why Grace is easily frustrated with searching for some kind of purpose or greater calling. John on the other hand is literally just a normal dude. He’s not cool like Grace or edgy like Sutton or particularly smooth like their youngest brother Eli or as enthusiastic and charming as Mae. He and Grace are the same age but John often feels like the middle child through and through despite his talents that Ralph tries to remind him of.
Most memorable family vacation?
One year, when his kids were young (ages infant to 10-years-old) Ralph rented an RV and they made the trip down to see the kids’ grandparents. It is, genuinely, one of the happiest memories Ralph has, even if he and his parents don’t speak anymore. It was nice to see his parents interact with his children before things got awful. It’s a reminder for Ralph that his parent’s are people. He wishes he had more good memories like that with them.
Describe your family in one word.
(His) Everything.
If you family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed?
Ok. This is how that would go down: Dinah would immediately be designated to call the shots; Ralph would handle shelter, food, and damage control; Sutton and Eli would work on finding service somewhere but otherwise would be on the table for being sacrificed because they’re divas; Grace and John would work on collecting supplies; and Mae would cheer everyone on. She’d want to help Grace and John or Sutton and Eli but they won’t let her because she’s baby so she’d stick with Dad at the camp helping cook and pouting about it.
//So you know!! All of the beans with, of course, the exception of the dogs (lol) are open!! That said, some of the information below/above is/can be subject to change if anyone is interested in playing one of Ralph’s family members! Fc's, personality, etc... I'm open to any and everything and, honestly, would love to see them on the dash.
Ralph Birk, 53, The Money Dispenser
Honestly, your typical dad. Maybe is a bit of a push over with his kids (you know, if mom says no they go to him kind of thing). But I don’t need to talk about Ralph, y’all know him already.
Dinah Leon, 51, The Boss
Can strike the fear of god into you one moment then melt you with the sheer warmth of her smile the next. Neither she nor Ralph is straight but they are the most compatible co-parents you will ever come across. Think... Annalise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder or Vivian Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The love is strong with this one. She’s currently backpacking Europe.
Sutton Birk-Leon, 28, The Artist
Lead of an experimental Metal-Rap band, Sutton is actually doing pretty well for himself in the music scene. He is not nearly as tough as hardcore as he puts on. As a matter of fact he’s a bit emotional, but lay a hair on any one of his siblings and there will be actual hell to pay. Even though he and Ralph go back and forth he has a good relationship with his father. They bond over music. Maybe he’s not the smartest bulb but he means well.
Grace Birk-Leon, 25, The Wild Child
Catch Grace on roller skates or pulling John into a impromptu dance sess in the living room or climbing over a fence that clearly reads ‘PRIVATE PROPERTY DO NOT ENTER.’ They use she/her or they/them pronouns and is just about the hardest person to pin down. The thought of labels gives Grace hives. When Grace loves, she loves. And don’t even get me started on when Grace dances. Grace and her mother butt heads but it’s only because Dinah knows Grace could do so many amazing things if she could just focus. Sutton thinks he’s the boss of the kids, but it’s always been Grace.
John Birk-Leon, 25, The Peace Keeper
Quiet, bookish, John will give you the jacket off of his own back if you offhandedly mention your cold. He’s a little shy, but a great listener, much like his father. Soft spoken and kind, John’s stillness is really the only thing that can ever truly balance out how restless Grace can be sometimes. He’s really brilliant, just doesn’t see it sometimes. After Mae, John is baby and must be protected.
Elijah “E” Birk-Leon, 23
E gives off the energy of this entire video. Oh my god, he’s a smooth talker. Definitely a flirt. Definitely gets into too much trouble... But he has an energy to him that endears him to anyone he meets. Personable, charming, warm... He’s a good kid at heart. Think Will from Fresh Prince, Drake from Drake and Josh, or Zack from Saved by the Bell. A pretty gifted singer like most of the other kids but NO! NO NO NO STICK TO THE STUFF YOU KNOW. HE CAN’T PLAY BASKETBALL AND SING DAD, GOD.
Mae Birk-Leon, 18-20ish, The Baby
The kindest, most enthusiastic person you’ll ever meet. Mae’s a little spit fire and you’d be hard pressed not to fall in love with her. She’s currently a student but undecided about what to major in. There’s just so many choices, you know? If she could she’d major in all of them she would! It’s cannon that she’s the person running across the courts in the Tommy Trojan mascot costume at USC games. And she loves every kitschy, sweaty moment of it. Think Number 3 from Codename: Kids Next Door or Bubbles from Power Puff Girls.

                                    ⌠ The Lewandowskis ⌡
Cecily Lewandowski née Turner (Morwenna Banks)  56, Charity worker. Heart of gold. Superwoman.
Paul Lewandowski (Hugh Bonneville)  59, Landscaper. A bit of a lazy sod. Means well.  Cordelia ‘Coco’ Lewandowski (Cara Delevingne) 25, A graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, her work has been shown in galleries all throughout London, and a handful in Paris and Vienna too.
Isobel ‘Bel’ Lewandowski (Poppy Delevingne) 28, Interior arranger/brand collaborator. The eldest and most sensible one.
Gayatri ‘Gaya’ Lewandowski  (Alia Bhatt)  21, Reading English in Cambridge. Got A* on all her A-levels. Aspiring author and poet. Hates Rupi Kaur. Born the same year as Lily. When Gayatri was two, her mother passed away of cancer. With her father living in India, her mother’s best friend — Cecily — took her in, and after some stressful court dates and paperwork (the Lewandowskis financial situation wasn’t the best at the time), they were able to finally adopt her. Gaya’s only memories are of growing up with her siblings, and considers them blood family.
Hamish ‘Joel’ Lewandowski (Tom Glynn-Carney) 18, Student. An accident, but a happy one. Just as Cecily said she was absolutely done with kids, she started getting headaches and shakes. Thinking it was premature menopause, but surprise — she turned out 3 months pregnant. Essentially Ferris Bueller. Babied and loved by all the girls. Decided he hated the name Hamish when he was eleven, has gone by Joel ever since. If anyone in the family is irritated with him though, they won’t hesitate to resort to his real name. Lily has gotten in a lot of fights sticking up for him.
Lily Marissa Lewandowski (Florence Pugh) 21, Law student. Baby. She considers her best friend in the whole world her sister, Gaya. If that makes her look like a loser, Lily gives no shits. They went through daycare, primary, and school together, always in the same year, always getting in scrapes, Lily sticking up for and throwing fists if her sister got picked on or bullied. They have been partners in crime through countless of crimes and shenanigans, a constant thorn in their parents’ sides. She’s in her third year reading law at Oxford (’It’s called Jurisprudence, actually’), and very very tired.
Motto: Persequere // Just keep going. Originally from: Twickenham, England. Paul’s side of the family is Polish and migrated to England at the beginning of the First World War.  Fictional family: The Weasleys. Cecily and Paul are Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, and Lily and Gaya can definitely draw comparisons to Fred and George. Black sheep: No one, but Hamish sees himself as such every now and then, if for nothing but the fact he is the one guy among 4 sisters.  Memorable family vacation: Mallorca. It rained the entire time they were there and the package holiday they booked was in what must have constituted the world’s filthiest hotel. They didn’t even get a partial refund. To top it all off, they lost Hamish, almost turning the situation into a Madeleine McCann one, but he was found by a gay couple inside one of the island’s bars.  The family in one word: Cacophonous

Originally from: Rick’s family have Irish roots, while Marcia’s have English and Polish. Both families have been in America so long they might as well have been on the Mayflower. Rick has a branch of the family living in Mississippi, but being deeply redneck he does not acknowledge them. Fictional family: Without an inkling of a doubt — The Roys. Rick is Logan Roy, Carson is Kendall, Jenny is Shiv without the responsibilities, and Jude is an even mix of Connor and Roman, with a dash of Greg. Black sheep: Jenny and Jude. Which one is the blackest sheep? They tend to outdo each other every month, but Jenny is better at keeping a low profile/playing daddy’s princess. Top disaster vacation: Zermatt. Not only did Rick book two separate hotels, one for his mistress and one for the rest of his family — but pretty much the rest of that vacation in the Swiss alp ski resort town unfolded in a disastrous fashion.  The family in one word: Loaded
If you family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed?
Jude would possibly be helpful. Then again, he might just sit there refreshing his phone’s wifi attempting to get it to work. Carson would be the first to get sacrificed and eaten.
~ze detailed headcanons~
Rick Nolan: The Real Wolf of Wall Street™. Jordan Belfort meets Logan Roy. The Ty Warner penthouse suite at the Four Seasons is reserved exclusively for him anytime he is in the city on official business.
Rick is on the Forbes billionares’ list. Nolan fam wealthy AF.
Like, super wealthy.
They have a private jet (and a helicopter).
Basically the Roys from Succession if the black sheep of the fam were a crust punk and a stripper.
Jude grew up in a mansion with a maid and a nanny and a driver the spoiled little shit.
Jude’s fav sibling: Jenny. But Carson comes in at a close second.
Irregardless of their wealth and holidays spent in France and Italy, Rick Nolan wanted the kids to grow up relatively normal. This is why he enrolled them all in a public school in Stony Point.
But college was srs business and he made sure Carson got into Yale.
With Jude they had less luck, he ended up in Columbia (and dropped out a few semesters later).
The black sheep of the family is def Jenny tho. Got pregnant at sixteen & dropped out & left when her mother started listing abortion clinics.
She moved to Philly with the babydaddy and became a stripper to support herself and Jake after he was born. They’re on decent terms now though and she happily accepts Marcia’s checks.
Jude dropped out of Columbia and told his parents he was starting a band, and also that he was going to support himself.
Since dropping Jude has only relied on his own money and means, even if that meant being completely broke at times, and he is very proud of that fact.
Jude had a brief period from 2011-2014 when his band Voodoo Kennedy made it big. Rick was asked for a soundbyte about the band and briefly said upon exiting a courtroom: “Never heard of them.”

Matthew Russo, 28 - Frontman of indie pop band Kafkaesque

What would your family’s Latin motto or House words be?
Matt’s family’s Latin motto would probably be “aut viam inveniam aut faciam,” which means “I will either find a way or make one.” In terms of his parents, it’s not really a positive thing–they’re bullheaded, ignorant, and entitled, and they have a tendency to believe the world owes them something. If the things they want are not handed to them, they are likely to find a way to get it by most means necessary.
When it comes to Matt himself, this motto also has a certain amount of relevance, though. He’s an ambitious person and when he really wants something, he usually finds a way to get it. Unlike his parents, however, the things he wants are not generally materialistic in nature, and he would be far less willing to stab someone in the back for it.
Where is your family originally from?
Walter and Lauren are both New Jersey-ites, but Lauren was born and raised in southern Jersey, about forty-five minutes from Newark. Both of them have what can only be called a politician-level devotion to their state and individual hometowns.
He has Italian in him on his dad’s side and Dutch in him on his mom’s side. His paternal grandparents came to America from Italy and Walter was a first-born American, but Lauren’s family has been here for a couple generations.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why.
By far Matt’s favorite family member is Margot. He has almost nothing but resentment for his parents and even when he manages to convince himself they’re not that bad and he should go see them, he ends up regretting it because it’s a constant barrage of criticism, conservative ideologies, and Trump-talk. Margot started off buying into their ways of thinking but eventually broke free and came to live with Matt in LA, and they get along amazingly well. On top of being a great sister who takes care of his house and cat when he’s on tour, she likes to keep quiet about being Matt Russo’s sister, and he respects the hell out of her for it.
Is there a black sheep in the family?
Especially before Margot figured out how to use her own brain, Matt was very much a black sheep of the family. Not only his parents but both sets of grandparents are extremely conservative Republicans. The only person in his family besides Margot that he likes is his mom’s sister, another black sheep who teaches Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers in Jersey.
Most memorable family vacation?
When he was twelve and Margot was seven, their parents attempted to take them to Disney World in Florida. Matt managed to lose his parents (on purpose) not an hour in and spent most of the day sneaking onto rides and flirting with the princesses in costume. He still has a picture with Cinderella that he cherished for many years. Unfortunately his parents had to contact security to find him and when they did, they were so pissed they banned him from leaving the hotel room again until they went back home.
Describe your family in one word.
Matt would probably just use the word “horrible” to describe his family.
If your family were on a desert island and survival was of the essence, who would be the most helpful? Who is getting sacrificed?
Walter would be pretty decent about figuring out how to survive, but he’d put himself before either of his children and probably his wife. It wouldn’t be an obvious thing, but he’s the type of person to find food and eat it himself instead of sharing with the family and rationalize it by telling himself he can’t help them if he doesn’t help himself first. Lauren would be almost completely useless and spend a lot of time crying. Margot would be the most helpful and resourceful, and while Matt certainly has the capacity to be the same, he’d be too inclined to get up to shit to reach that potential. Matt would be okay with sacrificing his parents and they’d be okay with sacrificing him, but his lowkey death wish would ultimately mean he’s the one being sacrificed.

Originally from: Greensboro, Alabama. ‘Town' would be a generous word for the place, but ‘tiny’ certainly applies. Fictional family: Not fictional, but probably the Honey Boo Boo family. Black sheep: Becca Memorable vacation: Disney World, Florida when Hope was 15. The family in one word: Broken
                                                                 ***
[ abuse, violence, alcoholism tw ]
The Halpin family is probably one of the most gossiped about in Greensboro. They are the definition of Southern white trash, short of living in an actual trailer.
Her dad was a known town drunk, and would get violent, in public and at home. Mostly, the vitriol and anger was directed towards his own, although it was not uncommon to find him involved in a bar brawl or two.
Growing up, the sisters garnered quite a bit of pity, as it wasn’t not uncommon to spot them in torn or dirty clothing, with blossoming bruises on their faces or split lips.
Many a time an upstanding citizen or two attempted to get involved with their family situation or call authorities on her dad, but the situation always de-escalated and led to relative times of peace.
The violence was mostly aimed towards Becca and occasionally Esther; never Hope, although witnessing her parents’ screaming matches, watching her dad smack the shit out of Becca for minor infractions, all of that left deep, lasting marks on her psyche.
Her mom was no better, an undiagnosed bipolar and narcissistic case who let her daughters inherit her every insecurity and flaw. She wasn’t a well-liked figure in town either, though she went to lengths to keep up appearances.
Her dad passed away from heart complications due to alcoholism a week before Hope’s 17th birthday. It was a sad affair, leaving Hope and Esther to support their bereaved mother (Becca had already left home). Most of the town, truth be told, was secretly relieved.

CHAMBERS FAMILY
Emily Chambers, October 17  – homemaker
Matriarch of Chambers family. Nice, friendly and soft spoken. She is Erin’s favorite person in the family (well, along with her older brother Ethan).
Edgar Chambers, November 4 -- founder of a general-contracting company
Erin’s hard-working, smart and sensible father. She always gets business and work advice from him. While he doesn’t really approve of her business, he was also impressed by his daughter’s skills.
Ethan Theodore Chambers, October 9 -- fashion designer
Erin’s fabulous older brother. He’s openly gay (also happens to be Dennis DeLino’s ex), he lives in WeHo and works for Reformation. Which is why she has at least twenty dresses from the brand. He is also Erin’s favorite family member, they have lunch every Thursday.
Erin Bailey Chambers, February 12 -- online store owner
You can read about her here.
Erica Reese Chambers, November 29 -- publicist
She is the youngest member of the family, which makes her a little bit spoiled and entitled. She is loud, crude and argumentative. She doesn’t get along with Erin much, they argue most of the time, she is not very close to Ethan either. If she had to pick someone as her favorite, it would be her dad Edgar. Currently she is working as a publicist in an entertaintment company.
Where is your family originally from?
Her mother is from Santa Monica, her father was born and raised in Boston. They met through their mutual friend, Edgar was on a vacation in California. He decided to move in Cali for Emily, they settled down in Burbank.
Your character’s favorite family member, and why.
It’s a tie between her mother and Ethan. Her father always teases those three for having their little club and excluding other family members, which is kinda true.
Is there a black sheep in the family?
Erin could be considered as the black sheep. The rest of the family has strong morals, they are always concerned how their own actions would effect others but Erin? Not so much.
Most memorable family vacation?
Maui, Hawaii. They all went there to celebrate Edgar’s 50th birthday. It was a blessing, although towards the end Erin and Erica got into a huge argument, that almost ruined their vacation but besides that, it was really fun.

Dances– The Blackwoods | A Personal Essay (Written pre-parental death).
It was a dance.
It always was, no matter what. No, there was never any music. No stage. No choreography. But conversations with my mother were always an intricate samba on a tightrope.
It could begin at any moment, about anything. Simple small talk about where I went for brunch yesterday morning could turn into a bitchfest about my weight– as if being 110 was something to be ashamed of. The mere presence of an unopened, monthly bank statement could turn into a lecture about financial responsibility– as if she wasn’t surrounded by new, shiny things and maxed out AMEX cards. And, far more recently, a quick, innocent glance at the alcohol cabinet would have me sat down with some professional life coach while she watched, a vodkatini in hand.
Eliza Blackwood (born Eliza Rheider in 1971) was a bitch. An absolute bitch. A wretched, spoiled, high-strung, narcissistic, classist, borderline-anorexic, Valium-addicted, Shalimar-drenched, Kris Jenner-wannabe bitch. She was lucky she came from money, because if she wasn’t, I don’t think she’d be alive right now. I mean, I’m lucky, too, but I’m grateful for what I have.
Her parents were corporate assholes– her dad worked for Goldman Sachs, and his wife was a vapid, shrill, useless little brat not unlike her daughter. And, of course, that unloveable little bitch went and married someone who could satisfy her financial needs and not embarrass the family name– Andrew Blackwood, a New York politician from a family of Wall Street types (Some of whom also worked at Goldman Sachs, which is how the two met). On paper, they were a match made in heaven. A wealthy politician and his obnoxious jetsetter wife.
But, fortunately for me, even though I hadn’t been born quite yet, Andrew was a good, caring man. While Eliza was (and still is) ruthless, selfish and absolutely disgustingly horrible, Andrew had a heart. He cared about people. And things. Which was why he went into politics. He wanted to make a change. While his family was a bunch of wealthy Republicans, he was entirely Democratic, a fact that nearly alienated from them entirely (if only it had actually managed to keep his family out of my life) which is why I’m still in awe that he wound up with a pathetic Paris Hilton knockoff. A politician with a heart of gold wound up with a blue blood twat who measures her love in karats.
But back to her dances.
I’m not entirely sure where they come from. I mean, no matter how much you analyze someone and their family and upbringing and everything, you can’t pin point their personality traits and their behaviors. That said, I think I have a fair amount of clues as to where Eliza’s horrid personality came from.
While her relationship with her mother is mostly concealed to me, their lifestyle was no secret. Eliza always went on about how well she lived as a kid, how luxurious her house was, how high the thread count in the sheets of her crib was, and how she washed her face with caviar or something. But how she got along with her mother was never fully described. I’ve seen hints here and there– a glare across a table at a gala or whispers on the phone. But I don’t know too much. As far as I know, Eliza’s mother– Mrs. Karen Rheider– didn’t even bother to raise any of her three children. I wouldn’t have been surprised had they all been raised by a nanny while Karen went went on living as a trophy wife. But I assume that the two of them, when they did interact, got along the same way Eliza and I do– and that would make it safe to assume Eliza picked up her bitchy words, malicious intentions and passive-aggressive, condescending demeanor from her mother. The family bitchiness is hereditary.
Passive-aggressiveness is definitely a running trait in my family. I see it to an extent on my dad’s side– his brothers and him bicker endlessly, and they seem to show some slight disapproval for his opposing political stance, as if world views are trivial dinner conversation. But it pales in comparison to the Rheider family’s guilt. Aside from me, and my mother, I see it in the rest of the family.
My aunt Jodi, mother of two, is another disgusting person. Like Jenny McCarthy, she refused to vaccinate her kids because she believed it would make them autistic. Her son, Connor, has caught the flu every single year since he was six. The three (including her daughter Jenna) currently reside together at a nudist resort, where the kids were homeschooled… because they lack their immunizations. But that’s kind of besides the point– any time Jodi decides to dress up and sneak out into the world of normalcy, she misses no opportunity to make slick comments that everyone else in the family is living incorrectly. Thankfully, everyone else has mastered the art of clapback.
Eliza’s brother, Luke, and his wife, Charli (a full 16 years younger than him) are an obnoxiously pretentious couple who are all too proud of their FormDecor relationship and all too ashamed of everyone else’s. Luke has a son, Bastien, who he had with his first wife, that’s only 6 years younger than Charli. However, Bastien’s one of the few people on my mother’s side of the family that I actually enjoy. We share similar morals, and gratefulness for what we’ve been given, and spend every single family function together ripping the family apart. It’s a shame they never hear us.
Even the family elders have the same disapproving, condescending disdain for everything that my mom displays. But they’re far too silent around me to reveal anything noteworthy. The most words I’ve ever heard from my great grandmother Dorothy Cross (my mother’s mother’s mother), was scolding Jodi for her nudist colony being racially integrated, so it’s safe to say not much good was going to come from that generation. Fortunately, most of them are dead– Dorothy passed in 2011 (though her husband is still living off of a diamond-encrusted life support machine), and Eliza’s father’s parent’s are both long gone. Three out of Andrew’s four parents are deceased, his mother’s mother Clarissa Pullock (or something like that) is still alive, though I’ve never met her and probably never will– our first interaction will probably be at her funeral where I’m forced to pretend to mourn.
While Eliza’s family is dominated by a vile matriarchy, Andrew’s family has been dominated by powerful men with miniature dicks who made the Blackwood name known very much for investment banking until bank holding companies began to reign supreme, after which the family figured they would be better off in electoral politics. Andrew’s grandfather, Adam Blackwood, worked up a networth of slightly over $1 billion, and while his successors haven’t exactly been slacking, I don’t think any of them are ever going to do as well as him (but at the end of the day, if Andrew decided to have a bonfire using $100 bills as kindling, we’d recover before the fire even went out). Adam had two sons– Matthew and Bernard, and both received their jobs at Wall Street after him in a clear sign of nepotism. Bernard married a real estate agent named Elaine or Elle or something like that and had a million kids– most of which were boys. I don’t know much about them, and I don’t really care to. Matthew married some Janet something and had four kids– Paul (1965), Michael (1967), Andrew (1969), and Matthew Jr. (stillborn in 1970).
Unfortunately for this generation of men, who, unsurprisingly, continued the trend of nepotism and began work at the same place as their ancestors (save for Andrew who stayed in school, exploring his interests), none of them were able to produce any boys to continue the line. Paul was the first to reproduce– shooting out Kim and Lisa in 1987 and 1989, and as soon as the Kardashian sisters came around, they tried their hardest to be them but soon settled with just being their very close friends (and it’s safe to say I can’t stand any of them). Michael had Heather in 1990, and somehow, amidst a family of putrid, selfish monsters, she wound up a tasteful and snarky angel of hope. Like Bastien, we spend our family events together, an unholy trio of stylish black sheep.
And then finally, February 5, 1995, I came around. Eliza and Andrew had been married for about three years, and finally had me. Adam was still alive at the time and was praying for a great grandson– only to be disappointed for the fourth time. Almost as a sign of flippancy towards him, they named me Sam (well, Samantha, but I’ve grown accustomed to Sam and refuse to be called by my full first name unless I’m being charged with something). My mother made my middle name Elizabeth– because she hoped that I would follow in her footsteps. She once said naming me after her was “the biggest mistake” she ever made, which I don’t think is entirely unfair because taking after her is the last thing I ever want to do. And I’ve spent the last twenty-one years learning all of this.
People always say that blood is thicker than water, or whatever. That we’re supposed to stick with our families (over friends, or, well, anything). There’s been some mindset that family comes before all, that you honor your last name above anything and everything. I don’t believe that for one second. As if who happened to bang should determine everything about you. I despise almost all of that. And I won’t claim any of the ones that I don’t like for one second. I’ll take a tango any day. Fuck blood. And fuck the Blackwoods.
