OMG, R.I.P. AIM!
Even though you probably haven't used AOL Instant Messenger in years, we're still sad to report that AIM is shutting down for good -- taking a piece of your youth with it!
Because the legendary chat service that was wildly popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s can no longer sustain itself, the company announced it will be obsolete come December 15. :(

America Online said in a statement to its users:
"We loved working on AIM for you. From setting the perfect away message to that familiar ring of an incoming chat, AIM will always have a special place in our hearts."

AOL Instant Messenger: Internet Mourns Demise Chat Service With Hilarious Memes
7:50 AM PDT 10/6/2017 by Ryan Parker
The iconic chat service will shut down Dec. 15
America Online (AOL) announced on Friday that its instant messaging feature, AIM, is shutting down β€” and that news caused the Internet to fall to pieces.Β
The iconic chat service has been around since 1997 and was wildly popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but can no longer be sustained, the company announced. It will shut down Dec. 15.Β
β€œWe loved working on AIM for you,” the companyΒ said in a statement to users. β€œFrom setting the perfect away message to that familiarΒ ring of an incoming chat, AIM will always have a special plaice in our hearts.”
Those who grew up using the service to chat with friends and crushes said they were saddened to hear the news as it brought back great nostalgia.Β
And because that is the way the Internet works now, there were some hilarious reactions posted.Β
See some of the best RIP reactions to AIM below:Β
