Soozan Doozi

Soozan Doozi of Sistan and Baluchestan province is one of the most celebrated styles of embroidery in Iran. It's aesthetic is imbued and with creative interpretations of artisans ifluenced by local culture, nature, lifestyle.

Soozan Doozi attired Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi featured in Iran Born Persia by James Morris, 📸 Henry Clarke

Former Shahbanu of Iran, Farah Pahlavi was a patron of Soozan Doozi artisans of Sistan and Baluchestan. She was introduced to the craft through Mehrmonir Jahanbani, daughter of Sepahbod (lieutenant general) Aman Allah Jahanbani. Mehrmonir Jahanbani herself discovered the art of Soozan Doozi due to her father being stationed in the province.

Mahtab Nowroozi, Zarkhatoon Azimi and Shahnaz Khalili Irandegani were the top artisans that collaborated with the palace to imbue Royal attires with art of Soozan Doozi.

Farah Pahlavi's Royal attires are preserved in Saad Abad Palace.

As of 2017, Iranshahr county of Sistan and Baluchestan is known as the national capital of Soozan Doozi and top two studios in the province that are continuing the lagacy of golden age of Soozan Doozi are Souchen Studio and Zeinab Nowroozi's (niece of Mahtab Nowrooz) studio.
