Are moonclan cats albino or just white furred?
both! the very beginning ancestors were a small colony of white, albinistic, and other light colored cats like flame point or just high white spotting ect. over the years, with a relatively small gene pool, they've adapted/mutated to their surroundings.
i draw their pupils reddish-purple because it reminds me of cave creatures and deep sea fishes and the flash of a camera, and also because doing them just red would lead a bit too much into albinism, (which i don't want, since they're kinda shunned away from everyone else. and i dont want it to seem like i'm saying albinism = bad) the pupil colors aren't consistent because i want it to look like it shifts with the light/their movement
aaaaand also, in my notes i have said that all moonclan cats are white with some "transparent" fur and no markings, large bug eyes, and balding including everyone having bald rat tails but in the comic/when i draw them they are not because 1. i want them to be recognizable 2. that's boring to draw 3. that's kinda scary and i don't want them portrayed as scary in this comic

Seeing your puppers just reminded me I once seen a Doberman that was white and cream, with a pink nose, not sure what color her eyes were since I seen her from a distance, I had to do a double take when i saw her to make sure it was a Doberman. Have you ever seen any with this coloring?
Hello Anon! I'm grateful for the question and the chance to educate, and somewhat amused to tell you you've stumbled on one of the hot-button issues in our breed! As such, this answer will be a little long and I apologize in advance!
So Dobermans come in 4 Recognized, Approved colors (in the US. In other countries/Kennel Clubs, the diluted colors are not usually recognized or approved of) naturally. Now, these colors are (all with color points that may be described as tan or rust) Black, Red, Blue (diluted black), and Fawn or Isabella (diluted red). Visual Aid, Doberman Colors L to R: Fawn/Isabella, Red, Blue, Black
Tumblr media
You get breeders that breed non-dilutes only, meaning they produce only blacks and reds. OR those that breed lines that carry and produce combinations of 2-4 colors. In the US/AKC and also in Canada (last I checked) all 4 of these colors could be shown to a Championship in Conformation as well as compete in all the sports!
That being said! On to the white dog you saw! Some time way back a rather unscrupulous breeder had a white puppy turn up in their program. (This puppy would grow up to be known as "Sheba".) While a responsible person would have recognized this to be not correct, and not produced further, this person saw a $$$ opportunity, bred the dog as an adult, then bred white offspring back to the parent and siblings to solidify and expand the white. (They also falsified documentation, lied about colors on the puppies, and probably a whole lot more!) Anyway, Sheba is the first Doberman the Kennel Club and Breed Club have a record of displaying this trait (but of course, it could have happened earlier to a non-surviving animal).
The problem? Well, the 'white' coloring occurring in Dobermans is a form of Albinism. (This can range from an "all white" dog to a pale white/cream marked dog).
What? Yes, that's right! White Dobermans are affected by Albinism! "But Toni!" I hear you yelling. "How can that be? Their eyes aren't red or pink!"
That's correct! However, it is still a type of Albinism called Oculocutaneous Albinism. The eyes are often a clear or watery blue, but they frequently have pink eye rims, noses, lips etc.
Even in the 80's these dogs were: hyperactive fear biters, prone to solar skin damage, and photosensitive. In the years since they've also had issues with coat loss, skin lesions, and melanocytic tumors/skin cancer. There are also visual issues that add to temperament problems and result in them often being rehomed/dumped in rescues.
Unscrupulous characters still try to market them with buzzwords like: cream, platinum, rare, white, etc. They're still all albinistic, poorly bred, sure to have a laundry list of health issues, and all around pretty sad. Those passionate about Dobermans, the standard and conservation get pretty upset when we spy people (especially celebrities) hyping or flaunting albinos. They're not rare in a desirable sense, they have a couple bad genes and a laundry list of health defects that lead to a fairly miserable (and expensive) life.
Short List of Facts:
*The first spontaneously born albino Doberman was born in November 10, 1976. Her name was Padula’s Queen Sheba (“Sheba”), AKC Registration No. WE166747.
*The DPCA later instituted a mechanism to track all descendants of Padula’s Queen Sheba which is referred to as the Z-list or Z-tracking. (Dogs from this line are registered with a "Z" in their registered number on file with the Kennel Club! You can look up archives of early descendants with notes about some of the early falsified papers/colors of her descendants.)
Anyway, all this to say I have interacted with albino Dobermans that have found their way into rescue scenarios... Frequently they're fairly young (2-5), displaying many of the health issues above, and have at least found their way to people that can purchase them all the protective gear they need to even go outside (clothing, eye coverings, boots are all often employed to minimize sun exposure). They make me sad, knowing their breeder cared more about money than producing a sound, healthy, happy dog. :(
I fully advocate for buying from a (responsible preservation) breeder or rescuing from a RESPONSIBLE, WELL RESEARCHED rescue organization. (There are bad breeders out there, puppy mills and brokers, there are bad rescues that breed dogs just so they can keep up their product and continue to generate cash... You have to do your research, kids.) You've heard of Adopt Don't Shop? Forget It. Adopt Or Shop RESPONSIBLY. No matter what, money is changing hands. Make the smartest, best purchase you can.
I know buying from a pet store or the first breeder you come across with puppies is tempting. Puppies are cute! ALL PUPPIES ARE CUTE. Well-bred and poorly bred! But the poorly bred ones almost always wind up living a less comfortable (and frequently shorter) life than the well-bred animals. You DEFINITELY pay more for them too, in the short run (initial price tag) and also long run (vet bills etc). I know this can sound like the same old party line but I fully do believe if people STOP SUPPORTING IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS/PUPPY MILLS, THEY WON'T MAKE MONEY AND WILL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.
If you 100010% don't want to go to a breeder, many of the Breed Clubs (or State Breed Clubs) have or work with their own breed rescue. Breed rescues are awesome resources for information about the breed, as well as purebreds that may not have been dealt the best hand in their lives and are in need of a second chance. IF you want an Albino, please, PLEASE make sure you're financially prepared to take care of them. PLEASE get them from a rescue. Please don't buy them from someone that is just cracking them out for the money and touting them as rare. Again, their poor health means they are more expensive than a well-bred purebred dog in a correct color would be.
There are plenty of Doberman owners and enthusiasts happy to point you in the right direction for a healthy companion that suits your needs. Want to show? There are breeders for that. Sports? Oh yes. Bite work? Sure. Service Dogs? Heck yeah! You can even find breeders that produce dogs that can do it all! You just have to be ready to put in some work with research, some patience, and some funds. In the long run, you get a healthier, happier pet, a better partner, and you will honestly spend less. (Have you looked at pet store prices? It's outrageous! Then you double it with vet bills. NOPE.) Anyway, this ran the hell away from me but I GOT A LOT OF FEELINGS Y'ALL.
Anon, I hope this answer helps.

I started reading "Akata Witch" by Nnedi Okorafor yesterday, and while I want to reserve my full judgment until after I've finished the book, I just got to a bit where the protagonist Sunny realizes that her new magical powers protect her from the sun, and I... have conflicting feelings about that.
On the one hand, good for Sunny. I genuinely like her as a character, and I don't want her to have to worry about things like being sunburned indoors or carrying an umbrella outside everywhere.
But also, it's like... I wish that she could have magical powers without it healing part of her disability, you know? And it feels like what's mostly left is the social ostracism element of albinism, rather than the physical symptoms.
Like, if we think of the social model of disability, where disabilities are created rather than innate, then Sunny still has to face the consequences of living in a society that isn't tailored to her needs. But the things that wouldn't go away even if society were kinder (namely, her photosensitivity) are just gone now, and that sort of disappoints me.
I'm just under halfway through the book, and it feels as though most of Sunny's albinistic traits (Is albinistic a word??) come from outside of her self. They're things that other people can see but that she doesn't experience or feel personally, like the color of her skin and hair. But the things that affect how she senses the world, from the inside out, don't seem to have as much of a spotlight in the narrative.
Then that makes me wonder (and this is a question that I'm having trouble finding the answer to online, since I keep getting redirected to the same five FAQ-esque websites), can you have oculocutaneous albinism that doesn't affect your eyes besides lightening color? Because Sunny is described as having hazel eyes, so maybe that means she has reduced pigmentation in her eyes but not enough to result in the more eye-focused symptoms of albinism, such as photophobia and low vision? Maybe that's why the book hasn't mentioned eye pain or light sensitivity, apart from her skin, and maybe that's why she's so good at sports and hasn't talked about having trouble with depth-perception or seeing in the dark.
I'm going to finish this book no matter what and see if I can get any more answers, but I'm not certain that I'll continue with the rest of the series, unless the second half of the first installment really wows me. It's nice to see a protagonist with albinism for once, and I really like how she's associated with sun imagery, because that's something I personally relate to, and I think that the "contradiction" of sun imagery and albinism is fun. Like, "The Sun is my best friend but also out to kill me." What a mood.
Still, I'm a little sad that I haven't found the specific type of representation that I was looking for in this book. I want to see things from the lens of someone else with ocular albinism, and while it's always nice to hear about experiences that differ from my own, I do want to find at least one story that I relate to in terms of vision problems, and I don't want that story to be about a vampire this time.
I still love vampires, though, don't get me wrong. I just want the validation of, "Human beings experience this thing, too. We're not just introducing a photosensitive character so someone can shine a flashlight in their eyes to ensure a quick escape."
TLDR: Sunny is definitely a character with albinism, but to me, it doesn't feel like she has ocular albinism, too, and I'm a little sad that the story seems to have "cured" the bulk of her disability with magic.

Ever since the hotels were closed that one night, Bella had been letting Vergil stay at her shop, he slept on the couch. Originally, he had planned to book a reservation the very next day, but that didn't happen, as Vergil had been helping her around the shop -- a small way to replay Bella for her hospitality in letting him stay here, he appreciated it.
It had been just over a month now since the half-devil took her up on her offer. He never booked a room, Vergil had just become used to Bella's company, and thankfully, she didn't seem to mind his extended stay, and he was glad for it. The more time he spent with Bella, the more her company seemed to warm up to him, he genuinely enjoyed their time together.
In return for her kindness, the half-devil insisted on helping her keep the place clean, neat and organized, she never said he had to help her, Vergil just did it out of choice, he felt obligated to help out for her kindness, and he didn't mind it, not one bit, if anything, he felt glad he was able to find a way to give back to her. One afternoon, Vergil was helping Bella clean up, he took care of the dust on the floor and mop the back, while Bella would wipe down the counters. After their individual cleaning tasks were finished, it was time to organize the new stock that her shop had just received earlier today
Tumblr media
Turning the corner, he spots Bella reaching for a box that was significantly taller than her, she could just barely reach it with her fingers, sure the girl had strength, but carrying something higher up didn't seem like a good idea.
[{ 🗡️ }] - "Careful Bella, that's a bit out of your reach."
Quickly, Vergil's towering height walks over to her, putting his hands on the box just as its about to slip off the top shelf. While he grabs hold of the box, Vergil's hand hands brush against hers, their hands and fingers even slightly touching as he helps her lower the box. Once they box is lowered, blue eyes get lost in her beautiful red-eyed gaze for a few seconds, their hands still faintly touching the entire time.
Tumblr media
Eventually, minutes pass, and he falls out of his trance. Giving his head a shake back to reality, he finally lets her take the box now that it was at her height and in her arms.
Tumblr media
[{ 🗡️ }] - "...Urm, Sorry. I couldn't help but notice how red you're eyes were.. they are.. very stunning up close.."

{ ♪ } -- She'd never been against help in the shop. The jewelry business was never her first choice, but it was necessary to be here until she could manage to get her foot in the door for a hospital job. Not to mention the fact that her family was more than important enough for her to sacrifice her time to tend to the shop while her parents were out of the country. This was her childhood home, in any regard, so it wasn't as if she was uncomfortable here.
Still, in her time alone, she'd become accustomed to doing things in not the safest of ways. It wasn't always possible for her to go through things in the most safe way possible. That was what was going on when Vergil approached.
A faint flush filled her cheeks as she noticed him near, reaching above her to grasp the box of clasps she was aiming for. It only deepened as scarlet met cerulean.
He'd been a great help around the shop, and she was certain that if he should stay much longer, he'd likely get moved into the guest room upstairs... Especially since she'd taken pains to ensure after that first night that there would be no ill intentions from him. She was trusting, but not a complete fool. The silver-haired man had been nothing but kind and courteous to her, helping her in all sorts of ways he really didn't need to. Perhaps appreciation caused that faint little flutter in her chest, but she shook her head quickly, holding the box closer to her chest.
"N-No! I mean, it's fine. Um. Yeah! I'm, y'know, I'm albinistic, so like... You know, I'm sure. Haha!"
Never had her condition caused her to stutter so. Normally, she was eager to bring awareness to what went on with her and the challenges it sometimes caused.
"I mean! Thank you! That's very sweet of you to say. Your eyes are lovely, too! Um. I- Uh, I finally got a chance to clean out the guest room upstairs. So, y'know, if you want to..."

HELL YEAH gimme the wolf stories!!!
Pffffffff, okay okay XD
Okay so like the wolf lore isn't super complex but it has a decent amount of detail such as ranks being different for each pack 'type'.
So like with the creation myth there are three main deity wolves named Sun, Moon, and Earth. They aren't necessarily the planets, more like symbols of what they cause, so Sun is the day, Moon is the night, and Earth is plants.
The basic story is that Earth's main mate is Sun but she cheated on him with his brother, Moon, so each brother took on of the pups and split off to create the Southern Sun Packs and the Northern Moon Packs. As said in those titles, Sun Packs are mostly in the South where it is warming, they tend to have short pelts with light fur to blending to their environments. Moon Packs, of course, are the opposite and have fur pelt to trap heat so dark colored and very long.
That's already a lot? Not even done with simple backstory yet so one sec to add more!
The pups of the Celestial Pack were named Eclipse and Solstice, they're also known as the first mutations. Now to break off into a tangent, to work my lore that was originally made for WolfQuest into Wolvden I decided to add 'original mutations' which are Eclipse who is a melanistic and Solstice who is albinistic!
Final thing is that Earth doesn't have her own pack... necessarily... nomadic lone wolves are called 'Earth Healers' here and tend to be in small groups up to 5 or so wolves. They wander around taking care of other packs and these groups just kinda showed up one day, no one knows if they were a splinter of the original Celestial Pack like all others or if they are a new thing.
Aaannnnnnd, I think that's about it for origins, not lying this time.
Since this post is already such a big dump I'm gonna put pack structure and how my oc packs, aka 'Moonlit Waterfall Pack' and 'Sunlit Meadow Pack', are tied together in different posts as to not make this overly complex. Also might post the thing I actually made for the Celestial Pack at another time since it might make this all easier to read and understand XD
