Xian’s Story - Chapter 2 7/8 ⚠️ TW: Death, mentions of drug use, strong language (Pierce’s POV) When I approach them I can read the grief in Xian’s eyes, which has worsen since Miko arrived a couple of hours ago. Can’t she fucking see it? Family does not mean shit. Family sometimes follow values that don’t resonate with you. Family can cripple you, can cut your wings. And my girlfriend has yet to understand this basic fact. I don’t like Miko. But I knew this the moment Xian received the first call and told me how worried she was about her. Her sister is like me, selfish to her very core. When I looked at her before, I could see that she recognised an equal. And she is not letting her go, the same I will never let her go. In the silence we understood one another: we don’t have to like each other, but we will respect that Xian is the single most important person for both. When we turn around to exit the cemetery, I’m still surprised how quick me and my family became priority number 2 in Xian’s mind. But she does not need me ranting about that right this moment. Xian’s Story - Chapter 2 4/8 (Pierce’s POV) I don’t know what’s gotten into everyone this evening. Why do they have to stick their noses into my business? Even Xian doesn’t know what I do with my time these days, but who can blame me for that? She does not tell me everything either and I know something has been going on since July. She is back in her shell, she overthinks every word she says to me and keeps her emotions locked in, which is killing me. Something has happened, something that she is not telling me. And, frankly, I’m getting tired of proving myself worthy of her trust. She does not want to tell me? Fine, I can live with that. I can be the patient guy. She knows that in return she cannot question me. I’m gutted that she does not trust me completely. I’ve been obsessed with her since the moment she stepped into my class, all shy and apologetic. Being the only one that was able to get close to her, to make her laugh and get out of her cocoon made me feel invincible. But lately the feeling that this relationship is very much one-sided is getting stronger. That’s when I start to do stupid stuff with Brandon’s gang. I don’t mind the fights, it a good release of adrenaline, but the thrill to take something from someone and wreck their pathetic lifestyles for good is more accelerating that any drug. Xian’s Story - Interlude (Delgato Family) The Twins (Left to right on first slide) - Xian’s POV These are Evie & Alexis Delgato, Pierce’s little sisters. I think Evie is the eldest, but Alexis has much more poise than her, so she looks a little bit more mature. They did not see me the first time I went to the Delgato’s house, as it was late and a school night and they were already sleeping. However, the next day I think Ms Delgato made a comment about my headache and they pestered Pierce for over a week until I accepted his invitation and went to have dinner with all of them. I cannot help but think how different they are from me and Miko at that age. They are truly having a wonderful childhood and you can see they are loved by all the adults around them. They are confident and outspoken little misses, and they make me laugh very often, just as if there was a competition between them. Summer is almost here and I think I have compromised almost all my free time to them, which Pierce thinks it’s hilarious (I am quite sure that he is convinced that he will not have to fight them to have me to himself). He knows I have to work on the souvenir store full time now, as I need to save for cooking school, so my time is limited. Back to Evie and Alexis, I cannot help but feel protective towards them. I do not fool myself thinking that they are my sisters, but it really feels like that lately. Yesterday I couldn’t stop myself and I told them how much I loved them, even though after 6 months of dating I have not had the courage to say that to my own boyfriend.
