As a forensic scientist by trade, it’s fitting to remember today for the importance of both Caesar’s autopsy (conducted by Antistius) and the origin of word forensic
Autopsy: post-classical Latin autopsia act of seeing with one's own eyes, careful visual examination
👀
Forensic: relating to the forum
So, the investigation of Caesar’s death was an early example of a forensic autopsy
The autopsy indicated only one of the stab wounds was fatal; which is probably a metaphor for something

Magnum opus
Translation and propaganda here (and by me, for once)
Sic semper tyrannis
"Thus always to tyrants," often implying that tyrants will be overthrown (death/defeat)
For its use in ancient history, the phrase is often connected to the assassination of Julius Caesar because they didn’t want a tyrant running things. And that totally showed him! And the others! But more recently it has been thought to be what Booth said after botching his jump from Lincoln’s box seat.
But wait there’s more! It is the seal of Virginia and is on the state flag. Since it needs an example to describe what always happens to tyrants, the flag depicts a defeated (dead??) man with his crown beside him being stood over/on by a female warrior! Also, this is the only flag I can think of that has a boob on it.
And, if you are pro-tyrant, you can still use this phrase if you include a positive example like have a tyrant feasting!
The Oh Hellos also have a song called "thus always to tyrants."

I’m not saying the correct way to celebrate the Ides of March is through the assassination of wanna-be dictators but…

Ides Fun Fact:
"Sic Semper Tyrannis"
(Thus Always to Tyrants)
Not Said By:
- Anyone killing Julius Caesar. Despite the phrase being attached to the event, it's likely that it was an addition to later dramatic accounts of his death. The phrase was already part of Roman history at the time (see below)
Said by:
- Scipio Aemilianus (185–129 BC) according to Plutarch, in response to his rival Gracchus' assassination. Tiberius Gracchus wanted to reform Rome's land laws to allow more land to be given to poorer people. This, in Aemilianus' aristocratic mind, made him a tyrant.
- John Wilkes Booth, who shouted it after shooting Abraham Lincoln in the head. Lincoln had just led the US to victory in the Civil War. The tyrannical action Booth was referencing in this case was ending slavery.
- The state motto of Virginia (since 1776)
This is why I cringe when I see the phrase.

So apparently because just 1% of transgender people regret their surgeries, gender affirming care is being… limited? Banned altogether in some places?
So because some people regret going to the psych ward, should we ban that too?
Should we ban going outside because some introverts regret going outside?
Because from my understanding those two things have a MUCH higher regret rate.

Memento mori
Means "remember you must die"
Mostly showcased through artwork, a memento mori reminds us of the brevity of our time here and the fragility of human life.
A basic memento mori painting would be a portrait with a skull but other symbols commonly found are hour glasses or clocks, extinguished or guttering candles, fruit, and flowers.
The [picture on the right] is Pablo Picasso's 'Goat's Skull, Bottle and Candle'
