Ok but my favourite thing about the Magnus vs Asmodeus scene was the fact that Magnus used a portal to defeat him. Not to attack him with raw power, not to blast him with his magic, not to banish him to Edom or wherever but using a portal is so goddamn significant because that’s like his thing.
He invented the portal. He’s an expert on dimensional magic and travelling. He did that. One of the greatest creations of the Shadow World, something that’s very much a Magnus thing and now he used that to get rid of his evil father once and for all and that’s just A Power Move(TM).

Jace in s01: worries about Alec making a mistake he’ll regret and tries to convince him to do the right thing; knows that Alec doesnt really want to marry Lydia and is doing it for another reason because he pays attention to Alec’s feelings
Jace in s02: risks life and limb to get to Alec and save him, allowing the Clave to arrest him and torture him; is the only one to actually bother asking this vistual stranger they just met like a week ago if his intentions towards Alec are serious; knows Alec is happier after being with Magnus because he pays attention to Alec’s feelings; checks on Alec after Jocelyn’s death and assures him it’s not his fault; gives the position of Head to Alec because he knows how much it means to him and how good he’d be at the job and constantly reassures him he’s doing good even when he fucks up
Jace in s03a: notices Alec is upset and asks him about it even when he literally believes he’s going crazy and is about to commit himself to the City of Bones for treatment
Jace in s03b: constantly in tune with Alec’s feelings, asks and supports all his decisions, 100% happy about his marriage.

I have to say I cheered loudly when Jonathan dropped the tea on Clary about why he is the way he is. Clary - and the show in general I’d say - love to lean into the idea that Jonathan’s problem is his demon blood (which is bullshit). That’s why Clary immediately conters him by saying that Jace didnt become like that although he too was raised by Valentine.
And Jonathan delivers a great comeback. Jace wasnt sent to hell for the next 10 years to be constantly tortured by someone who claimed to love him. Because that’s the thing - Jonathan didnt become the way he is because of his blood or because he was ~born that way~. He became the way he is because of what was done to him by both his father and his mother and Jocelyn.
Jace was raised and abused by Valentine, yes. But after that Jace got away. He was taken in by the Lightwoods who provided a much needed (if imperfect) support system and gave Jace the love and support he needed to break away from the cycle of abuse Valentine put him in. So he was able to grow up relatively well (of course, we can clearly see that despite that he still carries the scars of his abuse and he’s dealing with serious mental health problems).
But Jonathan didnt have that. He wasnt given that chance. So I think he was absoluely right to remind Clary of that fact and also that she herself has plenty of people she loves and who are good people despite the fact that they have demon blood just like Jonathan. Because that blood doesnt determine your goodness.
I hope they continue to explore this theme with the two of them.
