Xiao Li personality traits:

Willing to bend the rules if he thinks it's for the greater good. Believing the time trio over what happened with lu guang's stabbing and actively getting him moved to the unopened hospital and cxs and ql's suspect status delayed. Involving them in the investigation at all honestly.

Emotions blind him to objective reality. See: how he thought Qian Jin was an amazing officer and upstanding citizen until his wife died despite us now knowing QJ's moral slippage was occurring long before then. Thinking that Qian Jin must have changed because the Qian Jin he "knew" wouldn't have done these things.

Optimistic to a fault. Added to the previous point. Asked Qian Jin if he wanted to get his injuries checked out at the station when Qian Jin wanted nothing less. Trying the photo shop in the first place based off internet rumours on the off chance they could help with his case.

Sense of "justice" more a sense of guilt. Most of his s2 actions are fuelled by his need to fix things. He even admits that he was never the one who was an amazingly motivated police officer and he always saw that as Qian Jin's role. The difference here is that Xiao Li suddenly has personal stakes. The broad concept of justice is very different from seeing people's individual stories. An operation he ran resulted in someone getting stabbed so he tried to get Lu Guang safe and ran precautions that verged on paranoid (such as not informing his fellow officers about the powers). Chen Bin dies, so he insists he'll make it up for him and then resign. Wang Juan's fate is up in the air but is another instance where he screwed up because he was impulsive and chose to chase down Li Tianchen. And yet he keeps going regardless. He thinks that he can fix this if he just keeps going without necessarily learning the lessons he needs to succeed at that.

He's a shiguang mirror in one character. His Cheng Xiaoshi traits are much more obvious, of course. He's almost a bad end Cheng Xiaoshi in many ways. A Cheng Xiaoshi who never learnt. But his failure to properly communicate things to the people he's meant to be working alongside in case they screw it up is such a ridiculously Lu Guang trait it can't be ignored.

Got into it via the higurashi anime and then the vns. I have read/watched most of stuff readily available to me that ryukishi has written. And what I haven't read yet I plan to. Even if some of it isn't very good </3 I generally don't police my follower list here too much, I don't have the time or energy to. However If I do see suspect account names or replies I will block. I don't tag CWs or spoilers here generally, the exception is higurashi spoilers specifically, and that's just for a friend. I do rarely tag cws for something out of the ordinary for the franchise. My Dumb Thoughts on Higurashi- Onikakushi

The first of my Higurashi Reactions I started on Reddit, now with GIFS! These are basically the notes I put down of my thoughts after each chapter.( I'm not sure if long posts like this are seen as okay, so I may break up the later chapters for readability) [also spoilers for Onikakushi, obviously]

Oh, and before I begin, I read the main five in the following voices:

Rena and Keiichi: higher and lower versions of my own voice

Satoko: heavy enunciation

Mion: Peni Parker's Sonic voice

Rika: Cherami Leigh's voice for Sunako in Shiki

any other voice, I'll say when they show up. With that, let's begin!

Well, that was an uncomfortable opening

Ch 1-1

longer ramble (post tsumihoroboshi part 5)

enough higuing today OK: im rly liking the different protags btw meakashi shion pov and now the rena bits it works VERY WELL! But it also rly makes sense that the first 3 had to be keiichi because to understand renas/shions/rly anyone elses thoughts you have to understand some things about hinamizawa itself so making us play from the pov of a guy who just got here? its kinda the only option. I think those last tips r from the "evil rika" by the way so like demon allegations never stop with her + sonozakis. which of course makes SENSE three families n all that. i think satokos outbursts seem sort of normal for a traumatized child and as i said before; rena can do ANYTHING and ill forever just be able to brush it off with a "ohh shes a weird girl i guess :P" and now that she killed 2 people again i am not changing this statement in the slightest. She can just do that. Let her do whatever the hell she wants ETC. But clearly not a demon from three families with how she describes it all.

In shion pov she did actually call this "evil rika" a demon too so calling her that suffices for now. They do keep saying that the elderly think of rika as a reincarnation of oyashiro. i mean i dont think id be too off the mark to just call that "evil rika" oyashiro but i think its a term made up by the villagers instead of her REAL name so im just gonna call her "evil rika" until they provide me a better way to call her.

I also think that she will be the way this ties into umineko. I know a few facts... 1. theres a character with the same voice casting i dont remembr her name but u know the one who kinda looks like her anyways 2. the playing order should be higurashi first if at all and then umineko because theres characters who will refer to something that happened in higurashi/something youll understand if you have played higurashi... But like even aside from this kinda meta information i know theres a girl who looks like rika a lil too much. OH IDEA? Its just another oyashiro reincarnation 8 generations before or 8 generations after higurashi. Ok that might be jumping to conclusions a little but just something to state so itll be funny to look back at either if that happens OR its actually super false as hell

...as a matter of fact I used to think the other umineko character looked a LOT like satoko but i saw her on the tl the other day i think n i dont think so anymore. Color palettes more similar to miyo takano if i HAD to choose n that seems like a stretch too. OK but i need to mute the wtc tags though because were in peak spoiler territory i feel... Ok.

Also last thing: that time of rena stating she wants to go back in time immediately cut to all of the guys having a nice time without a single mention of the people rena killed (ofc - keiichi pov) but in a way RIGHT NOW? its kinda out in the open if that DID happen until we get rena pov again which i find a little fun.

Oh but one thing does still bother me to no end... Renas mentions of seeing oyashiro before makes literally no sense with the information we have so far. BUT ONCE AGAIN. renas just kinda weird. Maybe thats a conclusion she made because well shes a little weird and also mentioned to be like actually mentally ill. Man how did they write a character like that where shes my absolute #1 favorite no shot but then i trust literally nothing she says??? So funny. Love her

stopping for today though i mean i want to continue but we have to have SOME self discipline left so it all doesnt end in like a week:P ok bye

Huh. Didn't expect my sympathy points for Satoko to get up this episode. i mean, i started it kinda expecting to feel sick at the whole faking abuse storyline but.

first thing : satoko's not actually completely lying. the two lies she's telling - that she's bullied by the village and that her uncle is beating her have been true. it's a recent development that her uncle is being nice to her! there's so obviously an element of wish fulfillment in the way she relishes the way he tries to protect her now. He uses to be what she needed protecting from! but now he's protecting her! and while the bullying she's used to in the village is not as severe as she's presenting it, it was still real and awful.

She saw the arc where they rallied around her! but she didn't live it. and now she gets to experience it - but while not being in any actual danger. of course it's intoxicating. plus - well. why wouldn't she enjoy being receiving all that positive attention ?

it's not that what she's doing is not awful. but i didn't expect to get where she's coming from, a little.

meanwhile rika is so obviously concerned for her, ready to move mountains for her as soon as she figures out how to help her, and. remember why satoko is doing this in the first place! rika's concern and help is exactly what she wants and she feels she lacked through st lucia. it's. well. i find rika's clear love and concern very sweet, with the barest hint of 'oh sweetie. she's not actually in danger, i'm sorry'. instead of. being furious at satoko for the shit she's pulling.

last thing : it's obvious to everyone eua is laughing at satoko, not with her right? because she sees satoko twisting herself into something with no empathy and unable to understand care for her if it's not under her control and obnubilating them until they can only save of helping and saving them, and she can see that satoko doesn't even realize her own true motivations! or what she's doing to herself because sure she's in control but. she's still making herself live with her previous abuser and lying to everyone and that's. that's something that's very isolating.

when her eyes flash to witch in that last scene, she doesn't even have the smile. it more looks like the flash is here because she's losing control of her plans due to the way it's making her feel.

so yeah. i really didn't expect this episode to work for satoko, but at least to me it did.

Egocentrism in the S*ssR*n Ship & the Problem with Cognitive Bias...

Today is just going to be a day of it.

SR shippers say many things to justify their ship, but one of the most questionable is the claim that “But all/ most of Japan ships S*ssR*n!”

One, that’s not a valid argument. If you don’t understand why, research “alleged certainty.” Spoilers, it defies logic.

But perhaps most interesting is the fact that many Japanese people have spoken out against the claim. The claim that “all” ship it is ludicrous, and provable even by simple internet searches (which ultimately aren’t worth much). And as well, considering there are conflicting arguments expressed in the OG work as well as movements against things like lolicon (never mind the grossly overwhelming consensus that pedophilia is immoral and severe misrepresentation across the board of both Japanese history and literature), in terms of “evidence,” there is much to discuss on the subject matter and not much by way of confirming the ship as okay with this argument.

Sure, you can find support of the ship in Japan. It’s not really any different than finding support of the ship here. But just because it’s found there, doesn’t offer any justification toward the ship being “okay.” And more, the alleged certainty displays one glaring cognitive bias: egocentrism.

Why are SR shippers assuming to know with any established certainty the mindset of an entire nation or most of a nation? Especially since many there do actively dissent from their opinion? Granted, some are not so far-reaching in their assumptions, and that should be acknowledged. But that isn’t what we are talking about.

Espousing an individual’s own perceptions as being everyone’s without established evidence or consensus is egocentric and demonstrates an inability to understand that people may feel differently than they do. And often, when people lack an understanding of something, they lash out instead of investigating it. Human nature, I suppose. It’s easier to just react than take a moment, step away, and investigate. But regardless, it runs the risk of things continuing down the path of the nonsensical. And that has come out in spades since the release of the Inuyasha sequel (incessant internet trolling and “rinvestigating” being prime examples of this).

There is merit to disagreement. It is a good thing for both sides of an issue to present their stance on things and evaluate the strength of each argument and evidence for an against. But the people involved have to be able to step outside of their own feelings and try to evaluate such things from as neutral a point as possible.

I see a lot of that from other ships. Don’t see it so much (though there is some) from the SR camp. But I do see a lot of lashing out. And, disgustingly, I’ve seen a lot of campaigns to actively seek others out and cause some hurt.

Like when SR shippers go after survivors of child abuse and try to diminish their experiences.

That’s not okay. And, yes, there are a lot of people in the fandom upset with that camp for this kind of behavior.

The idea that “all of Japan” ships SR needs to stop. This is a minor argument among the many that there are to have on this subject, but it’s one that’s getting on my nerves, so I’m saying something about it.

And while we’re at it, I think it’s important to point out that if you have to sit in your bias and shout nothing else but that out as a defense, you might want to take a minute and consider that you really don’t have much of a defense at all.

Sesshoumaru...

Crappy day for so many in the Inuyasha fandom. One of my favorite things about Sesshoumaru (and it will always be one of my favorite things) is the father/daughter relationship he has with Rin. The sequel-that-will-not-be-named has gone a long way in upsetting people today, but screw that (also, arguably not really canon). So...

Take Sesshoumaru back.

In the spirit of this, if you’re on the side of the fandom that has always seen Sesshoumaru and Rin’s relationship as father/ daughter, one of friendship, or even a child and her protector, share any fanworks you have depicting this below. The new house was coming along well. There were big projects and side projects and more than a few messes to clean. But today, after weeks of existing as a useless, gutted mess, the master bathroom was finished. And after hours planting a new vegetable garden in their backyard while waiting on the contractor to finish, Kagome was thrilled to finally have a moment to enjoy the oversized tub she had insisted be put in.

Even if it was after midnight and sans a husband to enjoy it with.

“You snooze you lose.” Snickering to herself, Kagome set down the lighter and raised her leg to step into the tub.

They could never agree on a water temperature anyway.

“Miko like it hot, but youkai do not.”

She laughed again, probably a little too happy with herself over her ridiculous rhyming skills, and went to lift her other leg into the tub.

It never crossed her mind that eight scrabbly little legs would go scurrying across her bare foot.

Twice.

Kagome froze. Oh, my gods.

Then, it happened again.

Her eyes widened. No. No, no, no, no, no. NOPE.

The realization that there was more than one of them hit her like a ton of bricks, and she did the only thing any self-respecting woman would do.

She scrambled, completely naked, on top of the toilet.

“Sesshoumaru!”

If the sheer volume of her voice didn’t wake him, the obscene decibel it registered at would.

Sure enough, Sesshoumaru came barreling into the bathroom only seconds later, a sleep-blind blur of silver hair and black boxers groping for the light switch.

Unsuccessfully.

Kagome would have laughed if it weren’t for the eight-legged murder beasts currently roaming around her new bathroom floor.

Sesshoumaru finally managed to find the switch and winced as the incandescent bulbs suddenly flooded the bathroom with one hundred watts of light.

“Why are you screaming?” he murmured, his voice gravelly with sleep.

“There!” Kagome shouted, pointing near his foot. “There’s at least three”—another went scuttling across the floor—“Four! There’s four of them!”

Slightly more awake, Sesshoumaru furrowed his brows. “Four what, Kagome?”

It's weird how detached I feel from the mainstream DDLC fandom, because I pretty much exclusively follow queer DDLC fans it's a bit of a shock when I go to places like the DDLC subreddit or I scroll through the DDLC tags on Instagram because it feels like an entire different ecosystem compared to the queer DDLC fandom

When talking about Natsuri, I always see the Amy Loves Spiders poem and the ending of the game brought up, but we really need to talk about the beach poems more, specifically Natsuki's beach poem

Like, no way this could be about MC, right? Not that MC doesn't have any troubles, but he never expresses that to Natsuki as far as I remember, hell, even if he did this poem wouldn't make sense for him, MC clearly doesn't dislike himself.

This poem could be about Sayori, however I'm more inclined to believe it's about Yuri because its a matching poem with Yuri and although Sayori doesn't like herself, she doesn't show that, but it's much more obvious with Yuri.

Yuri is an anxious person, she overthinks her's and others peoples actions a lot, she stopped being expressive about her interests because of what other people thought about her. This poem focuses on the writer comforting someone who has heavy thoughts and worries which has dulled their happiness and enjoyment of things.

I just think that it's very obviously not about MC and it's fuckingabshsb Gay.

This is only my opinion though, I'd love to hear other interpretations of this poem!

Last movie: uhhh it might have been ‘let him go’, that pseudo western thriller abt the grandparents trying to save their grandson. it was p good i didnt expect to like it

Currently watching: im slowly rewatching supernatural rn bc im stupid. im also keeping up w the new higurashi anime series, and im really loving that one. i never watched the og and i havent read much of the visual novel yet, so idk what to expect each week and each week im punched in the head. (like i know a few major things bc i know umineko but..... im largely in the dark) im also kind of casually watching kims convenience on netflix, its good background noise

and haikyuu season 4 ofc

Currently reading: the bnha manga weekly, thats my number one read atm. im also slowly reading the higurashi visual novel.... very slowly. im also slowly reading the umineko manga, since it expands on the visual novel and like. umineko is my fave thing ever at the moment lol. everyone reading this post rn should go read umineko and talk to me abt it i am no longer asking

Currently craving: my mom made this chicken crock pot thing the other night and it was really fuckin good. i want it. i also want a new tattoo but im not risking the plague for that.

Should I make a 07th Expansion themed sideblog...?

‘Cause like... it wouldn’t be the most updated of my blogs, but there are times where I want to ramble about spoilers publicly and actually be specific about what the fuck makes me cry about umineko every time I happen to think about it. Or like ramble some things about Higanbana. And I barely even talk about Higurashi!! And maybe liveblog whenever the fuck I decide to read rose guns days lmao. I wouldn’t exactly mark anything as spoilers, but I would tag things for their respective series. And, y’know, I could just reblog spoilers without being scared of spoiling my followers.

I dunno, I wouldn’t dedicate too much effort into it, but it is an Idea. Would anyone be interested?

Meme time! Ten Favorite Female Characters

I was tagged by @anysin to list ten female character faves of mine! Yay! Thanks for the tag, I love doing these :D

Let's go! Here they are, in no particular order but grouped based on striking similarities:

The Goofballs

Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls). Pretty self-explanatory, tbh. XD She's a phenomenon, a force of nature, a star and an entire galaxy.

Phoebe Buffay (Friends). She's perfection. In every. way.

The Justice Squad, a.k.a. Genuinely And Fundamentally Good And Righteous People Who Bring Light To Fooey's Heart(TM)

Kaname Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica). Go back and watch the two talks she had with her mom. That's all I have to say.

Tsunemori Akane (Psycho-Pass). The memory scoop scene and her resolve in the season finale. Oh, and her friendship with Kougami.

Ryuguu Rena (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni). She goes through some serious shit and doesn't always make the right decisions under certain circumstances, but she just has that glow. She's also one of the most realistically portrayed intelligent characters I've come across.

Dlanor A. Knox (Umineko No Naku Koro Ni). I'll be honest - I really disliked her when she first appeared, but her second scene where she's actually introduced as a character and not just a pawn feels like an enlightenment of sorts. Here's a character with a dumb design and ridiculous ticks, but when you give her a chance to sit down with a cup of tea and talk about things, she just comes alive like WHOA. Oh, and her oh-so-complicated dynamics with Erika are absolutely fantastic.

The Multifaceted And Relatable

Fluttershy (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic). BEST PONY. Like, we all know why she's so lovable - she's cute beyond comprehension, she's kind, she's shy, h e r g o t d a m v o i c e. But hear this: realistically portrayed passive aggression, an in-depth backstory and characterization from her filly years to her current lifestyle, her special relationship with Discord... I could go on. A wonderfully written character right there.

Kim Wexley (Better Call Saul). Gosh, I love her so much. I admire Vince Gilligan to death and back, but honestly Kim is the first actually solid female character he's written. Damn, does it deliver, though.

The Non-Conformists

Jasper (Steven Universe). THE BUFF ROCK ALIEN WOMAN OF MY DREAMS. I DEMAND MORE JASPER IMMEDIATELY. Her design, her voice, her character, the slow but steady shift in her role, I adore everything about her.

Fa Mulan (Mulan). She changed my entire childhood. Dang, if this wasn't an empowering movie. I recently rewatched it and it's just. ;A; Plus there's the 'based on a real story' factor, which just makes it twice as cool!

Well, that's ten of them, but I just can't live with myself without throwing in a cryptic mention of A Certain Character(TM) (Umineko No Naku Koro Ni) in this particular category, because heck, that's hella representation right there if I ever saw any. The ginormous spoiler alert forces me to keep it vague, but... damn. Just damn. Any and every person with even a hint of interest in LGBT+ matters should be allowed to read their story.
