NUMBER 16 - May 10 2019 - vancouver
“Strike me down.”
Her fist trembled with a grip tighter and more fortified than anticipated. The sun hit the dirt with such velocity that waves erupted from the earth around them. The high noon sun sung a sustained note of agonizing intensity. So strong was the blaze, she felt claws of sunlight dragging down her back leaving trails of sweat and a stinging red tint in the shape of claws.
“I said. Strike me down.” Eyes bloodshot and preening with determined sorrow peered into her own terrified glassy stare. “I shall. But what will I do once it is over?” She sunk into her mind. Heat penetrating the depths of her internal musings. Nothing was working. Dust swirled around her ankles. A gentle coating of earth caressed her shins and calves. Toes buried in the dry sandy dirt.
“You will remember me. Remember me as the day today. A burning sensation. Sliding down your bare spine. Never interrupted by even alleviating this unending strike. I want there to be the remnants of my imprint, here. Where my feet stand. Where you hold yourself. Just like this sun. I want it burned into your memory. I will never forget. This is the last moment I will remember. Nothing precedes or foregoes after this. This cease to be. This cease to see more, to smell, to touch, to experience really. This cease and assist will be my final conscious choice today, yesterday and tomorrow. Forgone will be my next moments as there will be little left of me here, and little left of me in you. All that will remain, is the sun-burnt memory of this final instance.”
She heaved out those last words with sweat dripping off her lips. I think I felt some of it hit my face. She raised her hand. Pointing it towards her. Trembling fist, but resound gesture.
“Do not forget. As you cannot... Now. Strike me down.”
Instant heat. Instant numb. Instantly forgotten.
I WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE WHOLE THAT THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER. AND LET MY NEVER ENDING DESIRES LEAD ME TO UNKNOWN SHORES AND BLISTERING ADVENTURES INTO THE ABYSS OF HUMANITY AND THIS EARTH.
