Just about everyone is giving smouldering looks in this cast photo, except for David Blue and Elyse Levesque are in full "Sears Portrait Studio" mode.

great shot of dr. rush from sgu 1x13 that didn’t make it into the final ep, I think. passing it along for everyone else who has a completely normal and healthy amount of opinions about him, like me

I can't believe Jouer ses cartes by laurie_ky is finally over. Nine years in the making. 344,039 words. This fic was so hard to read at first (it was written in response to another one where Rush is gang raped by the Lucian Alliance), but the author delivered on her intent to make things better. And the ending nailed it, with a surprise that I did not see coming and all the fluff anyone could wish for.

I’ve once again tried to watch Dune (the new movie) and once again, I cannot, for the life of me, get into it. I adore Oscar. Actually, I adore quite a lot of people who are in that movie cause the cast is 🔥, but god damn, I just don’t care for it.
And there are quite a few books, movies, and shows (and media based on books) that are regarded as Crown Jewels in their genres that I just cannot get into, another example being The Hobbit. Like I loved Lord of the Rings (book and movies) but absolutely could not and cannot get into The Hobbit. I legit left the theater during the first Hobbit movie cause I didn’t care for it. Waited for my family in the foyer. And yes, I tried reading the book, but again, three chapters in, I was ready to throw the damn thing out the window.
And I have more such examples. Love SG1 and SG Atlantis, absolutely couldn’t sit through SGU. Original Star Wars movies? Yes please. The prequels and the last two sequels? You’d have to tie me to a chair and force my eyes open to watch those again. Star Trek is hit and miss, too, and that’s my first Sci Fi love, especially TNG.
I digress.
Tbh, I shouldn’t have to explain why I don’t like certain movies or books while I like others, especially if stories are set in the same universe. But if one more person tells me “But why? Didn’t you get the philosophic and ecological and economic arguments? How it compares to our times?” I’m gonna get my frying pan and start hitting people. Like I get all those statements. In fact, a lot of the shows and movies I do love make the same kind of statements. But to me, Dune is utterly boring. I honestly can’t put my finger on the exact why. I only know that not even the stunning cinematography (or stunning cast) can save it for me.

Suppose you were put in charge of making a new Stargate show, for Amazon I guess. They're only giving you a budget for one average-production-quality streaming season to start with. You can afford to get one or two returning cast members if you want. No rules about whether it's in the same continuity or not. What would you make?
If I’m making the show *I* want to watch, it’s an even split between deciphering weird alien languages and Vala Mal Doran getting up to wacky hijinks. If it’s a show I want to actually be marketable and have a chance of getting renewed, it’s a spinoff that’s set after the stargate program goes public, maybe following the crew of the odyssey as they explore the galaxy
but tbqh I’m not sure the franchise really has another show in it. as with a lot of other long running franchises nowadays whose later spin-offs have floundered, those cancellations were often deserved—sgu was lackluster in a lot of ways—and the really interesting thing to do would be identify the things you liked in those settings, and come up with new stories to tell that incorporated some of them
i would be much more excited to make a *new* sci fi show, in the spirit of the 90s sci fi that I love, than to try to make another star trek or stargate series.

aslkjdlasjf THIS GD SHOW, argh. i just finished season one, which i thought was a good idea, you know, finish the season before taking a break. *facepalms* i have those annoying things to do again (stupid household chores, every gd day you gotta do things), so it'll be a few hours before i can watch more, but i should be able to watch at least one or two more episodes today, so HOPEFULLY things will be a bit more resolved by tonight x'D
you were so right, there is so much happening, and i think EVERYONE on that gd ship needs a few years vacation after all this x'D
"married divorced remarried and divorced again and still having feelings for each other" asljdalksjda that is so correct, they are just that x'D
it's so fun, they're like "i don't trust him" pretty much all the time, and then Rush is like "so i had a dream" and Young is like "ok, i'll call General O'Neill" and they keep relying on each other so much right now, it's great, and Young risking the whole gd ship to save Rush, after having tried to kill him, what, twice already? amazing ❤
ah, yes, fanfiction ❤ it's so good at casting light on things from different angles, i love that, seeing characters and their motivations from all kinds of different point of views. though, you gif makers do that too and i love it, it's so great to look at different gif makers in the same fandoms and see how you focus different things.
right now i'm pretty exclusively reading McShep fics, but we'll see how that looks once i'm done with sgu x'D if you have any recs, please feel free to share!
btw, i've been trying to remember why i followed you from the start, and i'm pretty sure it's Star Trek, and specifically Spones, which, ALL MY LOVE! but i also want to mention how much i love following someone who gifs a lot of women, i love having more women on my dash! i never finished OUaT back in the days, but all your Regina and Swan Queen gifs are making me want to, and your Michelle Gomez gifs, waah, i do not want to watch CAoS! 😭 but you are kicking me in the butt about finishing Doctor Who too with your gifs of her (i sadly miss most of them though since i have it blacklisted for spoilers), i had no idea she was in it but man did that make me want to watch it when i found out!
okay, sorry that this got so long, even when i'm trying to keep things brief i end up being very wordy. so many things to say!
anyway, i'm gonna go do the things now, the sooner i get them done the sooner i can watch more sgu =D oh, wait, no, you posted something from 1x18 last night! i didn't look at it since i hadn't watched it yet, so i'm gonna go do that first! =D ❤
/Rodney anon
Oh don't be sorry , you can get wordy in my inbox whenever you like :3
You're fast! but why am I surprised, I finished 7 seasons of OUaT in a month lmao.
Well, imagine how it was for those who were watching sgu when it was actually airing, they did not have a chance to go and watch s2 right after s1, and you can :D so other things are not as bad as break between seasons of the show, but yeah, there's always things to do, sucks
askjhdaksjhd 'i just had a very interesting dream' scene is so good, and it so much better when you take it out of context lmao
well, they have to work together, they don't have a choice. you know how things were when he left rush on that planet, eli is smart, and eli was also right
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but eli is still not good enough to do all the work, so no matter how much they don't trust each other, they have to work things out and work together and then finally going towards trust and comradery
well, at least they will try lmao
SPONES!!!!!!! SPOOOONEES! they are everything to me!!!!!
well, if you finish ouat and start caos... I am so sorry in advance lmao
I am not sure I can even explain what mess of the shows are those two, I have similar feelings towards both shows, I love the cast, I love some characters, I love women there, I hate the writers :D
Michelle is stunning in caos, there's also Miranda Otto, and they are like my moms, I love them, this show is worth watching just to look at them, but there's also... the rest of the show and plot asjkhdakjdh
same goes for ouat tbh, some characters are great and actors are doing such a good job and then there's whatever was happening in the show, but it;s still fun if you don't take it all seriously.
you will facepalm a lot and you will have an urge to rip your hair out sometimes, but if you try caos, I will give you two good reasons for it
Tumblr media
that's it, think about it
okay, but you definitely need to watch doctor who, WATCH DOCTOR WHO!

My first poll!
The poll space is limited so I'm trying to explain a bit more below what the options mean.
+
Movie Reboot - Set the in the movie universe with only those versions of those characters remaining.
TV Reboot - All characters remain but with completely different actors and show runners are involved
TV Show Continuation - Set in the future. All original characters are referenced/known, but the show focuses on new characters/situations. Possible cameos from original cast members reprising their roles.

It's so strange, I tried watching Stargate Universe once and it looked like toatal crap, I just stoppped watching after the first few minutes of the pilot, but I watched both SG-1 and Atlantis in passing over the years when they played it on TV here over the years, but at that point I was just over watching TV in allotled time slots, and I think I mostly caught in the daytime and I didn't have acces to the TV at night, but I liked them, but years later I found out that Atlantis has possibly the best fic writers out of all of the fandoms, the best. But I was just looking at the actors who were in SGU and most of them just aren't watchable?, casting directors just made huge mistakes there for some reason, how did that even happen? It's such a shitty situation, I found out now that Joe wanted to buy licence rights to film it a few years later but it fell apart, when is SG coming home from the war?
But I am watching David Blue on Shuttlepod and he's so charismatic, (has a bit of an ego, but I mean ok, maybe someone has to have it)

C for the OC alphabet soup :)
Thank you!
Here's Christopher Rownik, the protagonist of "Order of the Iris!"
Christopher is a tall wood elf with black hair, white skin, blue eyes, and a thin frame. He's 23 years old and has a very sarcastic, cynical personality. Day-to-day, he wears sweaters, thick denim pants, grey cotton gloves, and a navy blue cap. Occasionally, he'll wear ear piercings and have illusory tattoos on his neck. He often wears a bit of thin eyeliner and eye shadow. He lives alone at the beginning of my story.
He lives in the village of Tamris, which I introduced in a prior post. He currently co-heads a nearby Vigilante's Guild chapter, which I can elaborate on if you want. He attended a renowned arcane university in South Gamel, earning him a sorcerer's degree and a seat on the international Lower Mages' Council. He is well-respected across the west coast of the Ityris (his home continent), but not known well elsewhere.
He grew up in the city of Errhad, Cyrelin. He was born shortly after the end of the Rindir Civil War (more information will come later) amidst an economic crisis. His parents were present for most of his childhood, but he was kidnapped at age 17 and taken to the Wallands as a slave. He managed to fight his way out of slavery but had no way back to his home continent. He stayed in the Wallands for a year until a ship visited the port of Sontau, his contemporary place of refuge.
He stowed away on the ship, sleeping in its cargo bay. The ship was a delivery of fish from the city of Rhines in Westwall. Christopher debarked the ship safely in the port of Rhines. His first goal was to reunite with his parents. He hitchhiked for two-hundred miles across the Westwall border to Cyrelin, where he met the unfortunate news that Errhad had been destroyed. In its place was, oddly, a giant tavern named "The Cursed Cauldron." (Again, more info on that later.)
Leaving him with a lack of direction, he decided to train in the mystic arts. Migrating south, he crossed the border into Rindir, then to South Gamel. He began to attend the Gardum University of South Gamel (GUSG or SGU) as a Sorcerer. He was taught to foster his innate magical abilities and channel them into powerful spells. He excelled in the magical arts. It became his passion and outlet for stress and grief.
Unfortunately, he became overzealous. On one occasion, he lost control of his magic and overused his own energy. Depleting it, he fainted and nearly died. This left him with a phobia of casting from one's own magic energy and fueled his resolve to learn environmental energy casting. This method, however, was not widely taught. He would have to teach himself how to do so.
He stayed in South Gamel for a year. One day he heard a rumor circulating about Tamril, a city in Westwall. He had only been to Rhines before, which was South. Tamril's culture and environment were completely alien to him.
After an arduous journey, he arrived in Tamril. He could not afford to live there, however, so he chose to stay in the nearby village of Tamris. It was small and had a scarce population, but Tamril was only an hour's walk away.
He took a job as a local guild member, gathering information for the Vigilante Guild. He is slowly advancing his way through the guild's ranks, and he's currently the co-head of the local chapter.
That's all for now; Saying much else would give spoilers!

This sounds like a good time for a show recommendation refresher post!
All this talk of show recommendations and a lazy Sunday afternoon + rain here makes this a good time for a show recommendations post refresher!  Everyone here, if you have something else you’re watching/want to recommend, post in the comments?
The usual in random order:
Travelers:  on Netflix (finished so can watch anytime but don’t read the show description or watch the trailer, Netflix idiots totally give away the pilot’s twist ending there)
Locke and Key: Netflix (third season is coming up) based on Joe Hill’s (Stephen King’s son) graphic novel, renewed for season 3 which will be the final season
Derry Girls:  Netflix, Irish import - cannot wait for season 3 to hit Netflix!!!!!!! also final season, Sister Michael alone is worth the price of admission  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U94W1guXSE
Stargate: I’ve said enough about it, also I’ve realized although I hardly ever rewatch Stargate Atlantis (and still haven’t tried SGU), the episode Michael was on this morning and it’s actually a really great episode so it had its moments but SG-1 is must-watch
New recommendations:
Maggie: on Hulu, I knew nothing about this show and only watched because spoilertv mentioned it and had nothing better to do but it’s such a fun watch and I thoroughly enjoyed it, only 1 season so far.  It’s about a psychic who can see people’s future so she avoids love because…okay, I didn’t really understand why.  But one night she accidentally thinks she’s seen her own future reading someone else’s…or has she?  Really fun show, like Derry Girls it’s light and perfect if you’re just looking to be entertained
Resident Alien:  finished the season 1 finale and it was slightly underwhelming but I still loved it!  Also, the kid actors on this show are amazing - I find child actors so hit and miss but the ones they cast on this show are terrific.  The premise is great, the supporting characters are great, can’t wait for season 2 which I’ll be starting in a couple of weeks.  And Syfy just renewed it for season 3, yay!
Walker Independence trailer here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOVevaEv014
I feel like if they stick to the murder-solving-revenge-etc. stuff this could actually be a good show or at least better than most of the Berlanti soap opera nonsense.  I’m sure there’ll be love interest/ship nonsense but if they don’t keep it at the forefront at the cost of an interesting premise/story (I’m looking at you Motherland Fort Salem), this might be worth watching.  Will see after the pilot
Anyone else watching something good and want to recommend?
+++
Thanks anon.
Arcane on Netflix is a pure bliss and finally a very good show based on a game.
Westworld for people liking to twists their brains, with perfect acting, writing and storytelling.
Midnight Mass on Netflix - Rahul Kohli <3333, plus a surprising well done, written and acted modern commentary on racism, xenophobia, religion, society and many other things.
The Boys, seriously, after Supergirl it’s an cathartic experience, i fully recommend.
Chicago PD - I know it’s a cop show, but it’s far from glorifying them. And i really like all characters.

I will continue to forever sing the praises of Stargate being really good about giving their ladies agency.
But it’s suddenly very clear to me that they’re not nearly as good with their POC
