I remember getting my first digital camera when I was probably 17 and using the sepia filter as a way to try and make my pictures look old and artistic.
Then I eventually got a smartphone and started taking pictures with the Instagram app, abusing the monochrome filters and contrast slider to make edgy photos abandoned buildings (no surprise there).
After that though I never really took photos with intent or purpose other than to post on a social media app about what I was doing in life (which mostly evolved around music for a long time).
It wasn't until about four years ago that I sold most my music equipment and bought my first serious camera and committed myself to learning the art of photography.
While going through my four year journey of self-education I found myself making a lot of cliche photos that resembled what I was doing when I was young and just making pictures for fun but now being conscious of the tropes I was feeding into.
I always loved the look of sepia and still do to this day but always struggled to find a place for it in my work where I didn't feel icky about it being a tired old cliche.
Today I think I finally found a recipe that works and that I feel comfortable with so why not share it and see if anyone else feels the same!

The light from the mirror
You saw from afar
The Mirror of Souls shows
All men as they are
You entered the hall and
You asked for the truth
The man that you saw
In the mirror was you🎶🎶
