tfw there’s some parts that are so mapped out all I need to do is copy and paste, and then there’s entire arcs that are just bullet points of me picking apart what would and wouldn’t happen of episodes I haven’t seen in like a year.

I mean, here’s this segment of next chapter [that’s at like 54% way to done, because I’m trying to not rehash the episode but figuring out how the alterations fit is tricky]:

Martha walks in, and takes one glance at the man Mike had said was looking for a flatmate.

At his dark, unruly hair, and sharp cheekbones, and the painfully dismissive way he regarded the obviously lovestruck woman standing by him, before he turns to face her, and in that moment Martha all can think is—

Oh, no. Not again.

.

Meanwhile, you know what I have for the entirety of the Blind Banker, aka Chapter 10? This:

Martha doesn’t have the technical difficulties John would’ve experienced. She still has a bad day and somehow ends up with Sherlock’s wallet, but not that way.

At the bank, ends up straightening up and acting super-professional and passive-aggressive af to the guy [she knows that if he’d been born a hundred years ago, he would’ve been one of the guys giving her a hard time because of her race and gender, a la The Family of Blood].

In this case, wouldn’t be surprised if he made a comment about ‘your girlfriend’ to Sherlock, only for the two of them to go ‘we are not together’. [prob simultaneously, which has the client looking confused by it]

Or maybe something along the lines of ‘business partners’ or something— just, because of the mutual enmity that Martha’s picking up, she’s backing her friend up and smiling at him like she once did generals and Sherlock’s picking up on how loyal she is and feeling torn between gratitude and confusion because of her vehemence. [Mostly confusion, bc he knows her well enough to notice the intense passive-aggressive vibes she’s giving off, to the guy he knows is generally well-liked by people in his social circle]

On the case, Martha’s type of backup isn’t all that different from John’s...except she’s already done this before, so she knows when to run, and doesn’t flinch back whenever Sherlock decides to break the law. Still disapproves, though. And won't hesitate to go ‘hey, remember how I’m a black woman? Yeah, society won’t treat me the same way it does you’ [also maybe a tie-in to a ‘hey the way you treat Donovan really isn’t okay, you have any idea how much bullshit she probably has to deal with in the workplace?’ conversation?]

TRYING TO FIT IN ALL THE FIXITS RE: CHARACTER DEATHS [maybe there’s a job opening in UNIT that Martha can sneak the museum curator into? idk]

also maybe throw in an allusion to the Year? Maybe Martha recognizes someone/something and goes ‘wait I saw that when I was in [x location]’ that either ends up having the case wrapped up all the earlier, or keeps quiet because how the fuck is she supposed to explain how she knows, or a mix of both where Sherlock isn’t convinced by her “classified” as an explanation and tries to figure her out.

The circus subplot—keep in? Throw in how Martha’s trying to get back into dating, meets someone somewhere only for him to get annoyed when Sherlock crashes the date? [bc Martha’s dating luck is worse than John’s, especially because even if Martha says ‘my flatmate’s a guy’ it does nothing to prepare them for meeting Sherlock]

Martha’s...actually doing pretty well with how stressful everything gets as things escalate, tbh. Attempts at intimidation? Threats? Kidnapping? Been there, done that, didn’t even get a t-shirt for it.

it’s only later, once they’re safely back at the flat, that Martha breaks down into semihysterical laughter and worries both Mrs. Hudson and Sherlock.

the entire fiasco also gives him another clue as to what makes her tick. He’s sorry for the circumstances that gave him said information, but...it’s interesting to know.

Case wraps up, everyone goes home, cue timeskip.

That’s it. An entire chapter’s worth of stuff that I want to play with but can’t figure out how to expand it without either reiterating the episode, diving into things I don’t have a large knowledge base on [current US-based stuff? Yes. Stuff in the UK, nearly a decade ago? Not so much] and really don't want to mess up.

I am loopy as sh*t but not at this exact nanosecond in pain. Hallelujah. They brought out the big guns because one is not supposed to wind up crying semihysterically in the doctor’s office from trying to go cold turkey no pain meds for two weeks to stop the rebound pain but when a full blown seizure and major migraine hits keep bulling through.. Outside the acute embarrassment of not being my tough as nails self, having survived being handed kleenex after kleenex while i sobbed, we are now in emerg waiting to be admitted because my doc said enough is enough. Dt’s on top of the nightly seizures and 5 migrianes ia week? She gently suggested a bit of real support and supervision is in order. I think my husband cried too
