EV Adoption Is Being Threatened By Bait & Switch. It Has To STOP
Earlier this week, Chevrolet confirmed that deliveries of its Blazer EV were soon to begin, with the first examples going to customers being the 2024 Blazer EV AWD RS. But at the same time, it quietly confirmed that the 1LT variant, a version that it had said would retell from $45,000 before incentives, was dead on arrival, making the 2LT the most affordable Blazer EV. The problem? It's far more expensive than the 1LT was meant to be, and it's indicative of a wider problem in the EV world.
P.S. This problem seems specific to the American car market, because a large enough number of Americans are ready to pay too expensive a price, take too expensive and long loans for too big and uneconomical cars just to look "richer" than their neighbour...! There are two sides to this problem. The fault lies not only with car manufacturers, but also with car buyers. Your purchasing choices determine which product or business model will be successful or not!
Basically, why wouldn't American legacy OEMs pull a stunt like this when they can make an easy profit and move on with impunity. The American car byer society gladly accepts such behaviour of legacy car manufacturers with their choice of car purchases also in the ICE vehicle market as well. In Europe, no sane car buyer uses pickup trucks (of course, there are fools in Europe as well, who need a car as a means of self-affirmation, not as daily transportation) as a daily commute vehicles, but in America it's commonplace, even in "poor" communities...
This was one of my culture shocks during my trip to America: Even in apparently poor neighbourhood, huge uneconomical ICE pickups and SUVs are parked everywhere outside the houses... and these so-called "poor" people drive these huge vehicles to the store, take their children to school, go to work and complain that they are "poor" and the government does not help them. The constant complaining about the "difficult" life of these 1st world "poor" looked really funny. They (the American left) have absolutely no idea what it means to be really poor and what it means to live in real poverty, not their imagined poverty.
It makes sense that they don't have money because they spend all their money on huge car loans, fossil fuel, expensive maintenance and in many cases they can't even do average car repairs just because they have chosen their vehicle based on irrational considerations (huge engines, top trims, "premium" brands, unnecessary and quite stupid upgrades and so on)...!
If a huge car like pickups or big SUVs don't make money by working as a business instrument or tool, it's a completely stupid idea to use these vehicles just for daily commuting or local errands... ! There are very few reasonably sized and efficient cars on the roads in America...
