1752 – Johannes von Müller, Swiss historian, born (d.1809); Müller's Geschichten der Schweizer (Swiss History), a project that occupied most of his life and took him more than forty years to complete. Müller's tome (18 volumes in the French translation) is now considered hopelessly unreliable, even though in its day it stirred Swiss nationalism and had profound influence.

Müller's place here is due to his favorite extracurricular activity - writing love letters to Charles Victor de Bonstetten, a young, devastatingly handsome Swiss writer.

Bonstetten was also the object of desire for Thomas Gray, the English poet. Müller's love letters, among the loveliest ever penned, were published in 1835, twenty-five years after his death. Long before then, however, Goethe had gone on record declaring Müller's sexuality.

1900 – Dorothy Arzner (d.1979), although not the first woman to direct films in Hollywood, was the only woman director to work through the turbulent, richly productive, 1930s and 1940s—the period crucial to the development of Classical Hollywood Cinema.

Born in San Francisco, she grew up around the filmmakers and actors who frequented her father's Hollywood restaurant. After dropping out of university, where she had intended to become a doctor, Arzner interviewed with William DeMille (of the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, i.e., Paramount Studios) and accepted her first film job as a script typist. She soon moved on to cutting and editing, eventually editing fifty-two pictures as chief editor for RealArt, a subsidiary of Paramount.

Arzner made her directorial debut at Paramount with Fashions for Women in 1927. Between 1927 and 1933, she directed eleven films for Paramount; in the ten years between 1933 and when she left the Hollywood film industry in 1943, Arzner directed another six films as a freelancer with RKO, United Artists, MGM, and Columbia.

During this time, Arzner received media attention as a "woman director" in the popular press; and as a woman, her work and her career were constantly scrutinized. For all this, however, Arzner remained enigmatic, even provocatively so: observers commented on the juxtaposition of her petite figure and her "mannish" dress; journalists reassured readers that this woman gave her orders on the set with a soft and "feminine" voice; and publicity photos regularly romanced her relationship with her female stars, who included such actresses as Clara Bow, Claudette Colbert, Rosalind Russell, Katherine Hepburn, and Joan Crawford.

Arzner's lesbianism seems to have been well-known within the Hollywood community, though little attention was paid to it publicly. She lived openly with her companion Marion Morgan, a choreographer and dancer, from 1930 until Morgan's death in 1971. The prominence of dance in several of Arzner's films may reflect Morgan's influence.

Arzner left Hollywood in 1943 to recover from an illness, and she never returned. Coincidentally, post-World War II Hollywood experienced a radical movement towards conservative "family values" quite incompatible with Arzner's general themes and interests, and her work seems to have fallen out of favor.

After her Hollywood career, Arzner directed training films for the Women's Army Corps, taught in the film program at UCLA (1959-1963), and was honored by the Director's Guild of America in 1975. She died on October 1, 1979.

As a woman "pioneer" in the film industry, and as a lesbian, Arzner has attracted considerable attention recently. She has been recognized for her innovations in using sound and her films, though many are still hard to find outside of archives, have seen a renewed interest both academically and popularly.

1948 - Sex Researcher Alfred Kinsey revealed a high incidence of same-sex acts among men. Behavior in the Human Male is published, in which the researcher concludes that 37% of American males have had at least one gay sexual experience to the point of orgasm. Five years later Kinsey publishes his report on women, which puts the comparable figure at 13%.

1964 – Bruce LaBruce is a Canadian writer, filmmaker, photographer and underground gay porn director based in Toronto, Ontario.

LaBruce was born Bryan Bruce in Tiverton, Ontario, and wrote for Cineaction magazine, curated by Robin Wood, his teacher. He first gained public attention with the publication of the queer punk zine J.D.s, which he co-edited with G.B. Jones. He currently writes and photographs for a variety of publications including Vice, Nerve.com and BlackBook magazine, and has made a number of films which merged the artistic techniques of independent film with gay pornography.

He has also previously been a columnist for the Canadian music magazine Exclaim! and Toronto's eye weekly, and he was a contributing editor and photographer for many years at New York's index magazine. In March 2011, LaBruce directed a performance of Arnold Schoenberg's opera Pierrot Lunaire at the Hebbel am Ufer Theatre in Berlin. As one no doubt assumes, this iteration of the opera included gender diversity, castration scenes and dildos, as well as a female to male transgender Pierrot.

I didn't see anything about this on tumblr yet so I am making this post.

Last week on Saturday evening (March 2nd 2024), an Orthodox Jew was attacked and stabbed in Zürich, Switzerland. The man is 50 years old. He was badly wounded and taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

He, thank God, survived the attack.

According to the articles I read, his attacker was heard shouting "Tod allen Juden!" ("Death to all Jews!").

I also read in one article that attacks like this are apparently rare in Switzerland and something like this has not happened in about two decades.

I am sad and angry and I don't really know what to say. I am deeply worried about the rise of antisemitism I keep seeing everywhere, including Germany and Switzerland.

I keep reading about and I have talked to Jewish people being scared for their safety and the safety of their families. This is not okay. This is terrifying.

(I feel like I can't do much but I try to listen and one thing I see repeated is that after the events of October 7th last year and everything that followed and is still following, antisemitism is getting worse. I really don't know if I should mention Israel/Palestine in this but there is so much antisemitism surrounding this that I felt I have to. I want to say to my followers who are not Jewish, please please take some time to learn about this. And please please especially take a look at how the word "Zionist" is used surrounding this topic, because that is terrifying too. I just want to say, I wish every Jewish person, regardless of their stance on Zionism, safety. I just wish and hope and pray that you are all safe.)

I hope the man who was attacked recovers fully. I hope his family will be okay. I don't know what else to say. Antisemitism in every form is wrong and it is horrible what is done in the name of it.

Exclusive -- Peter Schweizer: 'The Dam Is Starting to Break' on Biden Family Corruption

“The dam is starting to break” on the Biden family corruption, multiple New York Times best-seller author Peter Schweizer said during an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday.

Schweizer, a senior contributor at Breitbart News and president of the Government Accountability Institute, spoke about the recent Hunter Biden whistleblower revelations.

“This is really, really important. The dam is starting to break — truly the first time you’ve had somebody from inside the government who has said, ‘Wait a minute, the way this is being handled is wrong,'” he said, praising the whistleblowers who could otherwise retire and have comfortable lives.

“Based on what they’ve told us, is that under ordinary circumstances, Hunter Biden would, right now, be facing indictments not only for tax evasion charges, which are felonies,” but also for violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), Schweizer explained.

“The U.S. Attorney in Delaware wanted to bring charges in both of those areas and was blocked by the Department of Justice (DOJ),” he said, explaining that the revelations also reveal that the DOJ not only failed to do its job but applied a different set of standards to Hunter.

“We’re gonna call the person that is the subject of the search warrant. We’re going to call their lawyer and let them know a couple of days in advance that the search is coming,” he said, speaking of the special treatment issued to Hunter Biden.

Describing it as an “enormous breakthrough,” Schweizer added, “I don’t think these whistleblowers would come forward, except for the fact that this is true, and as they said, all of this can easily be corroborated based on correspondents and based on the information that’s available.”

“It is a devastating blow, and if you look through American history — whether it’s Watergate or other scandals — oftentimes it’s a cover-up that gets them because they get arrogant. They get greedy. They think they can get away with it, and that’s usually when they get caught,” the Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win author said.

Schweizer also weighed in on the new statement issued by a White House Council spokesman, who now said President Joe Biden was never in business with his son. The author described this as the “continued erosion of their position.”

So you see this continue to erosion,” Schweizer said, also pointing to the defense of the Biden team on Hunter’s involvement with Burisma.

“The defense from the Biden team was always this was a legitimate enterprise, as Hunter is a highly trained lawyer and an international businessman. Now their position has evolved during the same time period to say, ‘Well, look, Hunter was a drug addict. He didn’t really know what he was doing. He didn’t really know what he was saying,'” he said.

“The point is, they are flipping and flopping because they know that the noose on this entire enterprise is starting to tighten. And I think that this is going to have major repercussions not just for the Biden family, but for the 2024 election,” he said, adding that he would not be shocked to see someone such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) jumping into the presidential race “not just on some of the questions about where the President is mentally because of his age, but also because this scandal has legs.”

Indeed, recent surveys indicate that the American electorate view Biden himself as corrupt, “involved with his son in an illegal influence peddling scheme,” and Schweizer also pointed to that fact.

“We already see polls, Harvard Harris poll, showing a comfortable majority of Americans, including independents, fundamentally believe that he was engaged in criminal activity to aid and help his family’s business,” he added.

Abends, wenn ich schon im Bett liege, höre ich das Rauschen. Das Wasser fliesst, vielleicht fünf Minuten lang, vielleicht zehn, es fühlt sich an wie eine Stunde. Unsere Nachbarin lässt sich ein Bad einlaufen. Jeden Abend lässt sie sich ein Bad einlaufen.

"Das ist nicht in Ordnung", denke ich dann, im Bett liegend, jetzt sollte man doch nicht baden, und schon gar nicht jeden Tag. Wir alle müssen doch Storm und Gas und überhaupt: Sparen! Ich selbst bade ja kaum mehr, obwohl ich es aus gesundheitlichen Gründen tun sollte, und überhaupt: Wieso nehme ich immer Rücksicht und die anderen nicht, aber ich habe noch Schmerzen dabei?

Neben meiner Grossmutter wohnte eine Familie, die immer über den Zaun sah, wenn es denn einen Zaun gehabt hätte. Eigentlich waren es Brombeerbüsche, die zwischen dem Haus meiner Grossmutter und dem der Familie standen, einige gehörten ihr, einige gehörten der Familie. Und wehe, wenn wir als Kinder aus Versehen von den Brombeeren der Familie nahmen! Schlimm war für diese Familie auch, wenn im Garten meine Grossmutter irgendeine Unordnung herrschte. Wenn zum Beispiel ein paar vom Baum geschnittene Zweige nicht sofort weggeräumt wurden und, sagen wir mal, eine Nacht im Garten liegen blieben. Schlimm! Mein Vater schlug einmal vor, dass sämtliche Menschen, die sich in der Schweiz einbürgern lassen wollten, einfach eine Stunde bei dem Vater der Familie verbringen müssten, und sogleich würden sie alle Eigenheiten der Schweizer:innen kennen, und wenn sie das aushielten, dann sollte man ihnen sofort und ohne weitere Prüfung einen Schweizer Pass ausstellen.

Ich fand das eine gute Idee.

Vor ein paar Jahren begegnete ich der Tochter dieser Familie. Sie ist jetzt Physiotherapeutin, und als mein Physiotherapeut einmal krank war, sprang sie für ihn ein. Ich erkannte sie sofort an ihrem Nachnamen, sie erkannte mich an meinem Gesicht, wofür ich mich schämte - denn ich wusste nicht mehr, wie sie aussah. Ich schämte mich auch, weil ich mich nicht daran erinnern konnte, dass wir zusammen gespielt hatten, "mit einer Schubkarre voll Wasser". Ich schämte mich auch, weil sie sich ernsthaft freute, mich zu sehen, ich aber zusammenzuckte, als ich ihren Namen las. Sie erzählte mir dann in der Behandlung, nachdem wir ein wenig ins Gespräch gekommen waren, dass sie immer unter der Verstocktheit ihrer Eltern gelitten habe, sie sich eigentlich immer noch unwohl fühlte "zu Hause", weil sie nie wirklich darüber sprechen könne, wie es ihr gehe.

Ich schämte mich. Ich schäme mich auch, Abend für Abend, wenn ich meine Nachbarin kontrolliere, ob sie jetzt tatsächlich wieder ein Bad einlaufen lässt. Aber es passiert trotzdem.

anyways i read a book about them by By Peter Schweizer and its an authorized book bc the author did interviews with them and the entire book the kennedys get referenced, even on the first page and its like???? The authors continuously try to paint the Bushes as the "UnKennedys" and "self-made men" throughout this book while telling stories of G.H.W. making phone calls to his many wealthy and powerful friends to secure large contributions for his sons like sir....do you hear yourself???
