Pallas Cats are absurd to me. This is a wild animal, not accustomed to humans, shouldn't interact with it unless I'm trained with these types of animals, all that jazz. But also they're so fucking cute and fluffy?? What do you mean I can't pet and hold one???

This just looks like the fluffiest house cat I've ever seen yet it's a wild animal that I shouldn't interact with. It's like bears but less deadly. Nature constantly taunts me.

Scarlet Writing Cheat Sheet
1: Scarlet will not pick a fight unless he believes he can win it. 1a: What Scarlet defines as a fight he can win varies by how old the Scarlet is, and will generally skew heavily towards fights balanced exclusively in his favor. 1b: Scarlet will not go into any sort of fight that seems even vaguely unbalanced against him if he has any choice in the matter. 1c: If possible, Scarlet will not fight at all, as an ambush is far more effective than a fight and will offer him far more life force if successful than wasting life on a battle ever will.
2: Scarlet will respond to any threat that he does not believe he can either fight or avoid with playing a role and attempts at appeasement. 2a: Scarlet is a very good actor, but he will play to whatever role he feels is asked of him. This role may shift to respond to shifting expectations, or wants, or actions - its purpose is to act as though he is harmless, and he will adapt to anything he believes may keep himself alive longer. 2b: Scarlet will openly contradict himself in order to cater to whoever he believes is the biggest threat in the room. 2c: Scarlet will continue to act in this manner until he is forced out of it, either by hunger or by other circumstances.
3: Scarlet is motivated by food, shelter, and avoidance of discovery, not necessarily in that order. 3a: Generally speaking, avoiding discovery will take priority over food and shelter, but he can be cornered into accepting things that would otherwise be too much of a risk, should he be forced into playing a role. 3b: All motives will, in the end, loop back to self-preservation, either in terms of preserving his life or in terms of preserving his sense of self. 3c: If given the opportunity, Scarlet will avoid ants at all costs.
4: Scarlet is intelligent, but his ability to stay alive is inherently based on luck. 4a: In order to succeed, he must get lucky every time, but anyone he is fleeing from only needs to get lucky once. 4b: Scarlet is aware of this, and will generally act for reliability over luck if given the chance. 4c: Scarlet will never take a risk that he does not feel that he has to. 4d: Any matter that puts Scarlet's identity at risk will always be a zero-sum game, because if he gambles on a bug and they get away, his ability to hide, hunt, and survive is as good as dead.

I like how the Phineas and Ferb intro says "driving our sister insane" as if they're intentionally mean to Candace but in the actual show they're pretty consistently nice to her. Like the boys always ask if she wants to join them, and when she says she's calling mom, their response is usually just, "cool, I'm sure she'd love to see it!" Mostly it's just her own problem of being obsessed with busting them. None of it is intentional on their part, as far as they're concerned, she's just weirdly fixated on getting mom to come home and see what they're building. Except she never sees it because their project always disappears after being hit by some mysterious beam from the sky that no one understands.

I love the trope of "oh look, it's the king's most trusted advisor." And then it's just the least trustworthy person imaginable. Like in LOTR, you've got Grima Wormtongue slithering around Theoden's court giving bad advice and telling lies uninhibited until Gandalf and the gang show up. His name is Grima Wormtongue. Forget becoming an advisor, why'd they even let this guy in? How'd he get promoted to a position like that? Who looks at a devious little man with a name like that and immediately goes "ah yes, he seems like a trustworthy advisor" Saruman's magical influence doing heavy lifting here.

I hate when people are dismissive of anime because of the way certain anime portray women and underage girls. They'll act like the majority of anime is like that when it's literally not. Like dude, just dig around more and ask people for recommendations its not that hard.
Imagine if people treated American media this way. "Oh I can never watch American shows, it's all just teenagers fucking and revolves around white dudes shooting brown people."

"NATO is a defensive organization!! All member states agree to join it!" Yes, I'm sure bombing Yugoslavia and brutally overthrowing the Libyan government were both purely defensive actions.

I know Tolkien didn’t like allegories, but we’re all shaped by our environment so sometimes I think about the themes of lotr within the context of the time Tolkien was writing in and get emotional. He wrote it in the 30s and 40s, from the rise of fascism to just after the end of WWII (which his son participated in) and then you read the book and you see these ideas of opposing tyranny and doing what’s right even in the face of overwhelming odds. Of wishing such terrible events had never happened, that such a responsibility had never come to you, but doing what you can with the time given to you. Of fighting not for yourself or some idea of greatness, but for all that is good and beautiful in this world. Reading about these characters who aren’t even certain they’re going to make it out of any of this alive, but still pushing through nonetheless.
“Hope” is a common word as well. Holding onto hope of ultimate victory even in the darkest hour. It can seem pointless, childish even. A fool’s hope. Yet still you hold onto it. Even if it seems over, you hold onto that shred until the end. Because despite it all, despite everything, the sun will eventually rise on this terrible night. It’s just...idk within the context of everything happening now too, it just really gets to me.

For the longest time people were saying that you can't possibly understand the situation with Palestine and Israel because it's sooo complicated and also it goes back to ancient times and the whole region has just been fighting for thousands of years. But now we have people acting like this all started in October 2023 and saying Hamas started this whole thing. Which is it? Is it an ancient and infinitely complex fight or did it start in October when Hamas fighters simply popped out of little holes in the ground?
Of course, both types of rhetoric have the same goal of exonerating Israel. We all know the country can do no wrong and is never responsible for anything so we must find a way to make the conflict seem more complex than it is, or simply blame Palestinians for their own death and suffering (I'm being sarcastic of course). Ironically, people saying it all goes back to biblical events or that it's a religious conflict as old as time don't give a single shit about the actual history. If they did, they'd have to contend with the history of the Zionist movement, its connection with colonialism, and the fact that Israel started ethnically cleansing Palestinians basically as soon as it was founded in 1948.

And you dare to call me a terrorist,
while you look down your gun.
When I think of all the deeds that you have done.
You have plundered many nations,
divided many lands,
you have terrorized their peoples
you ruled with an iron hand!
And you brought this reign of terror to my land
-The Wolfe Tones, Joe McDonnell.
