I never realized this before, but…it really does seem like that Shadow Weaver was only killed off to give C@tra MORE validation and for C//A to become canon, because it seems like even the narrative knew that the girls were more like sisters than anything, so they have to kill off the person that linked that fact together.
As much as I am happy that she’s gone so she won’t hurt neither girl anymore, this is TOO much of a coincidence to ignore 😵💫
I understand queer men wanting more representation in cartoons. After all, it's important that children see themselves in media. However, they need to realize that they have more representation than queer women in just about every single other field.
Live-action shows, movies, books, manga, anime, comics, web-comics — all of these have more stories with characters who are queer men than they do queer women. And in the rare chance that sapphics do get a story of their own, it's almost always sabotaged, prematurely canceled, or slandered.
The one category sapphics have more representation in is cartoons, and even then, it's not like they're treated like masterpieces. Steven Universe is constantly slandered for things that other shows easily get away with. She-ra's main lesbian romances was called abusive for having the same traits that people find desirable in straight romances. The Legend of Korra and Adventure Time don't even showcase the singular wlw relationships they have until the very end of the series. The Owl House was repeatedly set up to fail by Disney to try and get it canceled. In two of the shows I listed, two of the main characters aren't even sapphics themselves — they're boys, the sapphic characters are members of the supporting cast.
So yes, you have a right to wish there was more mlm representation in cartoons — but don't act like wlw are lucky when the only form of media they have is children's entertainment, especially since it's the only place their relationships won't be fetishized on screen.
I remember seeing a thread online a while ago talking about the SatPOP comics. There, they basically were saying that they were actually glad that the fire princess was never discussed or ever appeared in the show because “the idea of fire powers in a kids show is too much to handle” and I’m all like…have ANY of you ever seen any kind of kid show ever? Adventure Time? The Owl House?? AVATAR??? lol
