Kind of interesting, I suppose technically Dion would be emperor by this point in the story, but would he really want to? He didn't start a Civil War to claim the throne for himself, he just wanted Olivier out of the way and to restore his father to the throne. When Anabella (may she rest in piss) was goading Dion about him never being emperor, his response is basically "meh".
Plus there's the whole sidequest about Sabine and her father. The game in the quest makes it clear that the empire is dead and nobody wants it back except the people who were originally in power. Even if Dion lives in the end, I kind of doubt he would want to become the new ruler. And honestly after he nuked his own people, we can't blame them if they don't want him back.

“Your the son of my heart” | Dion stepmom oc
Her name… was Lady Clairene du Pont. Raised to be a queen from a young age, all she was taught was to one day marry into the Lesage family and bare the child that would be Bahamut. While not keen on being used as a birthing device, young Claire hoped that a union could lead to love. Or even if her groom did not love her, she hoped to at least make a difference in Sanbreque. Be remembered by someone. She was mature and regal, loved exploring the garden and reading history books. If it wasn’t for her duties as a noblewoman she’d have become a scholar.
One of the subjects she loved studying was of the Eikons, and especially Bahamut with its brightly colored scales in the artworks. She had a fire deep within, and often caused a ruckus by tearing down catty women. Her least favorite being Annabella Rosfield. She was not keen on the young lady’s treatment of bearers, whom Claire herself treated kindly. She saw them as people… not lesser beings. In fact in a way she wished to be able to weild magic, it was fascinating and looked beautiful to her.
At the age of eighteen she was married to Sylvestre, a man of nineteen who she didn’t meet until they were both presented before the priest. She was told before that she’d be married into the Lesage family, and since the man was a candidate for Emperor her family saw fit she become empress. Especially since the Lesage’s were trying to bring Bahamut about, and Claire was young and surely fertile. On that day the young lady met her groom, and was both captured by his beauty and yet… scared. She’d never seen a man like him, one who had the looks of a prince in a fairy-tale. But as she looked him in the eyes, they were distant and cold… like viper almost. She shook when they were named man and wife, and wanted to cry when left alone on their wedding night.
She was now Claire Lesage, and she was trapped into a cold marriage. Made evidently clear when Sylvestre left her before the morning came, and that was how their union started. Many times he lay with her, yet she did not fall pregnant and it was soon revealed by the healers… she was barren. The pain in her heart was immense, feeling as those failed in the one task her family gave her to Sylvestre for. Her husband became angry, and decided to look elsewhere for his comfort and companionship.
At nineteen she mourned the fact she’d have no children… but after her tears dried, and the sliver of affection for Sylvestre died… she held her head up high and decided to at least be a good ruler. So what if the ladies gossiped? Hurled insults, and flaunted the infidelities of her husband in her face? She wasn’t going to stoop low and become a cold bitch, she would prove her worth. In fact many of Sylvestre’s good decisions and choices were guided by her, with her smile and kind heart towards the people of Sanbreque it boosted the man’s image. Her treatment of Bearers was unheard of… but those servants loved her. The library’s were stalked with books, knowledge, etc. just because Greagor didn’t see her fit to be a mother didn’t mean she couldn’t be a good ruler.
however fate would smile on her. At twenty-three her husband came to her In private, holding a newborn in his arms who cried as if the little things heart was broken. Sylvester admitted the baby was his, the mother ‘selling him’ for she was a prostitute. Claire’s heart broke for the baby, and immediately she took him from her husband and held the boy close.
it didn’t matter the child’s birth. His parentage or even how he came to be… she looked into those sad eyes and knew, this child was going to be her everything. Claire agreed to the cover story, of Dion being her child and all the love she’d wanted to express to another poured out of her. Dion may not have been her son by blood, but he was the son her heart yearned for. She cared for him herself, and was seen smiling more in court with her baby. When her boy turned one, Bahamut revealed himself on the boy and her she couldn’t have been more proud… however when she turned to Sylvestre… she knew he was thinking of something terrible.
the man began to refer to him as Bahamut, while Claire would snap back and say he was Dion. She was not a fan of how he kept making plans of war, and conquering for when her son was old enough to hold a weapon. She was very outspoken against his plans, she protected her son as much as she could….
when her son turned three… Claire had passed, a terrible accident it was claimed. But any who knew how Sylvestre was… knew that he had in fact killed his sons birth mother, they knew… he’d had his wife killed. Because she was the only one standing in the way of his future plans for Dion…

My only issue with FFXVI is that we can't explore Valisthea's cities outside of the story
It feels like FFXII again where we couldn't go to the Rozarrian Empire but worse. I really wanted to go explore Port Isolde, Creag Loisgte, Oriflamme and Stonhyrr especially after the time skip and near the end of the game to see more of Valisthea.

New Stewart Clarke cameo I requested about Dion and Terence:
Question: First of all, thank you so much for portraying Dion with such passion and commitment, he is one of my favorite character ever, and was very important for me! I wanted to ask you your perception about something concerning Terence and Dion’s relationship. It’s refreshing to see that -in my understanding- they were not secretive about their love because they were two men, but for other reasons, maybe to protect each other from court intrigues and for social status differences. What’s your opinion on this matter? Also, do you think Sylvestre, Anabella and the Dragoons know?
The answer is on the video: we have the confirmation that Stewart talked with producers and screenwriters about teredio a lot! ♥️♥️
And also: “It’s difficult, but not insurmountable, as it’s clearly demonstrated by the two of them making it work. Because they love each other so much.” Awwwwww MY HEART!!!

The name of the tower is Baywatch in English but in Japanese it's called 'Mysidia Watchtower'.
Apparently Sanbreque knows Mysidia exist and they might build the watchtower to monitor it.
This gives me the impression that Mysidia is in Sanbreque rather than Northern Territories because if we stand at Northreach and if the solidified wave is at the coast near Drake's Head, then the wave should be located near Drake's Head, not the very west of Sanbreque's coast.
So Mysidia should be in the Empire, along the west coast.
Also did Dion know anything about the solidified wave? lmao it's literally in his nation in front of his castle.

Man, it didn't hit me until earlier just how much war went on with Rosaria.
Like you have the Northern Territories, who kept giving them trouble for centuries until Elwin, as Archduke, finally managed to stamp out the conflict once and for all(even if it did involve underhanded, unsavory methods in addition to the war).
Then there's the Iron Kingdom, and the centuries of struggling against them for control of Drake's Breath -- which Rosaria kept losing and having to retreat from each time.
(And these are only the ones that I know of thus far. So if there's more lore from the game that talks about other conflicts with Rosaria and the other nations, I am happily all ears to hear about it!)
