Not much new out of the Sydney SailGP Press Conference today…Welcome Diago Boutin to the table!
Presenting Rita’s new wrap (picture courtesy of SailGP).
It’s gonna be quite strange to see…
Tumblr media
… the Emirates brand on the GreatBritain F50!
SO MANY RED & WHITE BOATS on the water that announcer Todd Harris is gonna get even more confused.
Great for the league and that team, in particular. They certainly don’t seem to have any problem finding sponsorships.

Okay, I may only have time to drag the ice dancers' fashion missteps this weekend, we'll see, but if you haven't watched yet, it's all spoilers all the way down from here, so read on at your own risk lol.
Molly and Dmitre surprisingly have a lot of rights this season. Their programs suit them well, her romper is fabulous and fits her perfectly, and his simple outfit is what I was talking about with Evan - you don't need to overthinks this, it's enough. A really good outing for them, they're so cute, it's just that only the last 1/3 of their RD woke the audience up. The earrings and the cross AND the pink scrunchie are a bit much, though.
Emilea is a spectacular dancer and truly the Lia of ice dance, and she was the stronger partner here. The costumes, though - the bodice of hers was shoddily done, and his top looked like a Confederate flag coloring page. I hate all MJ programs except LaLa's and this one's no exception. This girl seems to be immune to Igor's coaching so far, so we'll see, she might actually survive.
I have a huge soft sport for Alicia and Paul, and not just because they're smoking hot. They have some of the rawest talent in the entire field, but unfortunately it's coupled with some major limitations. I know they've lost a lot of training time throughout their partnership, but their levels on step sequences aren't improving. What Paul gained in speed and power in Montreal he lost in the quality of his turns. The program has a lot of the pitfalls of a first-time choreographer, there's a lot of random pointing at the sky and just basic movement. A bit of a muted performance from them, but at least their butts didn't touch the ice, which in itself is a victory for them. I get what Tracy was saying when they debuted at the senior level about their lack of variety of movement. The costumes were unmemorable but fine and I liked her hair. He needs to figure out his facial hair, it unsettles me. MF's coat is atrocious.
W/L with the best program of the event and by far one of the best of the season. They understood the assignment. Their entire looks are a vibe, the costumes are amazing and I love her grey hair tips. We've seen them far stronger this season, a bit of a dodgy outing for them here. They do a bit of a complicated and confusing entry for what the lift ends up being. They and Romain with the aubergine coat take the best dressed title here, shame about the score.
This German team is consistently one of the worst dressed, which is why I can't hold it against them - they must not have other options. Solid attack as always but the music overpowers them while still somehow falling flat. She isn't pushing at all when they're skating in hold. I love their rotational lift but they've been doing it for years.
Pate/Bye might just be the most quintessential Igor team there ever was. While she was performing her little heart out, they were probably the most flat-footed team here. Their skating is so small and devoid of power. I liked the musicality of their final two elements, they were indeed placed exactly on the music. Her costume was decently made but the details get lost from a distance, and his was truly just a zip-up tracksuit top. I don't understand what the hair has to do with the theme, but it looks like neither do they.
The Brown babies looked truly effortless and in a just world they would've won this event. Just completely smooth sailing from them, incredibly consistent, flying across the ice but always in control, defined free legs and decent extension, I just literally have no notes aside from the non-costumes. Flawless unison and togetherness, just riding those edges like they stole them, and at a back-to-back GP too! The USFSA better put all their eggs in this basket for Salt Lake because they've been gestating some literal rocks.
I usually like Alli and Saul, but to me, they've been stuck in a creative rut recently and they're giving us stuff we've already seen from them, including the outfits. The costumes are really well-made and clearly thought out, but the pattern on her jacket turns into a blur and the tassels on his are a liability. Her hair is too long and distracting. Just an overall sluggish performance from them and like the Germans, they couldn't keep up with the music. A couple of cool moments in the programs but no real free leg to speak of and they spent a lot of time on two feet. I still like them, I just expected more of them.
Okay, I'm gonna preface this by saying that I'm prejudiced against Piper and Paul because I can't stand their personalities, which is why I'm glad their program and costumes are horrendous, thereby justifying my dislike and further proving that I have impeccable taste. This program makes about as much sense as an out gay man skating with a registered Republican, but here we are. The mismatch of the outfits is so stark, it's as if she's a piñata and he's just the stick it's suspended from. I guess she couldn't decide if she wanted to be a peacock or a beetle, so she went with both. The leggings are too tight and an awkward length, so they shorten her. The boatneck blouse (and we know how I feel about those) with sleeves that just end randomly over a training bra is just a hot fucking mess, the stones make her boobs look uneven, and I'm pretty sure Scott wore his costume for the SD at the 2014 Nationals. But what was even worse than the clothes was the program and skating. Such stiff backs, such locked hips, such lack of extension, such small skating - take your pick! They're such awkward movers, I don't understand how they ended up in this discipline. When they threw themselves onto the ice, I wished they hadn't gotten up to continue this torture. And was her hair done by Hello Kells? Because it looked like one of her unintentionally messy buns. Their posture was awful and her position in the lift as ugly as the earrings that are a completely different green from the rest of her outfit. They'll get run over by the tricked-out garbage truck that is Bock again this year and they'll deserve it. There are literally only 2 good programs between the top 5 teams this year - the Canadanes' RD and the Italians' FD.
Speaking of teams that haven't given us anything new in years - Lilah and Lewis. Sigh. The music is a bop but overdone and the shameless rhythm violation that they refuse to correct and continue to not be penalized for feels like a slap in the face of all the other teams that made an honest effort. I'm pretty sure Steve Angello wasn't dropping tracks as a baby. In fact, I checked, and this mix came out in 2004, so what gives, ISU? What's the point of assigning a theme if you aren't going to enforce it, you frauds? F/G did this thing again where he literally lifts her and positions her on the correct edge because it's the only way she can hit one. And the grabbing of the ponytail on the "keep your head up" lyrics - an abomination. The costumes are hot but they can't make up for what's becoming a shameless display of privilege at this point. I think Lewis would've looked better either in a vest or just if the jacket wasn't so sharply cut off at the bottom. I just want to split them up and put Lewis with Olivia and her with Tim, could you imagine? Perfect matches. The sparkly pink mesh gloves are a vibe, though, I'll give them that, but I definitely wouldn't give them a score in the fucking 80s because not even their music is.
We'll see if I'll bother with the other disciplines today, it'll depend on whether they decided to werk or quiet-quit. Hope you had a lovely date!
"She's a piñata and he's just the stick it's suspended from" took me the fuck OUT Fashionista Nonny, oh my god that was so funny. I laughed so hard I started coughing.
A pleasure to read you amazing opinions as always, thank you for sharing!

He continues his personal mission by contributing as a patrolman, leading the community with Maria, and acting as an extended family for Ellie. Suspect it's still loosing money hand over fist but not by as much as you may think. We don't know what percentage are paying full price but GP could be turning 300m a month by my math. An AC mirage plus a load of "cheap" stuff seems like a good month The Last of US PC Download to me. Honestly, why does anyone here care about what Microsoft pays for games on Game Pass - especially if you adamantly oppose anything and everything Microsoft does? It's not as if Microsoft is paying to put it on Game Pass and only Game Pass. During Weeks of the 2022 season, Moss averaged 18.3 touches and 86.5 total yards. One of those games came against the Texans, when Moss scored 21.1 fantasy points. In Week 1, Key posted a 40% PRWR at edge, tied for best at the position.
Was that a function of Key or just that Key was playing against how to download the last of us the Saints' Trevor Penning? If Key has success again, it will not only help the Titans on Sunday but also indicate they got a steal in free agency. Microsoft and Sony are incentivising developers to rely on this cash flow to find a game and direct give them too much of a reason to try. Sony model is meaningful where MS just pours money for the personal data. It is a global business and service so…not that big how to download the last of us amount at the end. Proof for me is that the promotion for the office for 39 lifetime license is going for year and a half now.
All editions of The Last of Us Part I include Left Behind, remade from the ground up. Explore Ellie’s backstory and meet her best friend Riley in our acclaimed single how to download the last of us chapter. Go deeper into the world of The Last of Us on the official site, including character profiles, news, and information on other titles in the series.
Following several leaks, The Last of Us Part I was announced in June 2022 and released for PlayStation 5 in September. It received positive reviews, with praise for its graphical enhancements, facial animations, artificial intelligence, and its added accessibility, audio, and controller options. The response to its gameplay and level design was mixed, and several critics questioned The Last of US PC Download the necessity of a remake, especially considering its price. It received an award at the Visual Effects Society Awards, and nominations at the Game Awards and Golden Joystick Awards. The Windows release in March 2023 was marred by performance problems and received mixed reviews.
Games in the series are among the best-selling PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games. Are these the kinds of figures that you suspected, or does it seem like crazy money considering gaming subscription numbers have plateaued? Start throwing money about like nobody's business in the comments section below. With three-quarters of the 2023 college football season remaining, there is a lot that can and will change. However, as things stand, the Crimson Tide is not in the best place. What happens to people when they lose their familiar environment in a greenhouse?

FP1: Sainz heads Verstappen in opening Hungarian Grand Prix practice
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz lay down an early marker as he beat championship leader Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc to the fastest time in opening practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Spaniard clocked a 1m 18.750s to finish 0.130s clear of Verstappen, having sailed to the top after going fastest of all in the final two sectors, with Leclerc only one tenth of a second further back in third. AS IT HAPPENED: All the action from first practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix McLaren’s Lando Norris left it late to bolt on the soft tyres and vaulted up to fourth, 0.5s off the pace at the Hungaroring, host of F1’s final event before the summer break – with team mate Daniel Ricciardo half a second back in eighth having been the stronger of the two on the mediums. The leading Mercedes was George Russell in fifth, ahead of Sergio Perez – who was heard sneezing several times in succession on team radio and saying he had “a bit of an allergy around this place”. The Mexican has more pace, though, having set the fastest opening sector before the lap got away from him on the softs. 1 Carlos Sainz SAI Ferrari 1:18.750 2 Max Verstappen VER Red Bull Racing +0.130s 3 Charles Leclerc LEC Ferrari +0.289s 4 Lando Norris NOR McLaren +0.549s 5 George Russell RUS Mercedes +0.856s Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was seventh, with the Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso completing the top 10. Sebastian Vettel, who on Thursday announced he will retire from F1 at the end of the year, was 11th, a fraction ahead of team mate Lance Stroll, as Aston Martin spent much of the session running the more durable compounds before turning their attention late onto the soft. ANALYSIS: Why Vettel decided to retire – and who might replace him for 2023 Pierre Gasly beat AlphaTauri team mate Yuki Tsunoda to 13th, with Zhou Guanyu taking the old-spec Alfa Romeo to 15th. His team mate Valtteri Bottas has the new floor this weekend, with Zhou getting it for Spa, but he will have to wait to FP2 to test it, as it was reserve driver Robert Kubica who got the first taste, the Pole ending up 19th. 2022 Hungarian GP FP1: Alonso almost runs into Stroll early on in first practice Alex Albon put his Williams 16th, ahead of Kevin Magnussen, who was running the heavily upgraded Haas, the American team bringing an update package to track for the first time this season. FORM GUIDE: Is Verstappen set to extend his lead in Hungary – or can Ferrari fight back? Mick Schumacher will get the Haas update for Spa – and ended FP1 18th, with the Williams of Nicholas Latifi propping up the timesheets. Who's going to score in the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix? Pick your dream team before qualifying and take on the world to win huge prizes with the Official Formula 1 Fantasy game. Alright, alright.
Can anyone tell me why the heck on Friday January 13th, 2023, the Singapore newspaper, The Straits Times, used this particular photo of Pete and Blair to accompany an article about Pete as the helm of the NZ Sail GP team?
Tumblr media
This photo is 10 years outta date, and there are literally thousands of more current photos of them, together and separately, on line since they were both on Team Korea. What they couldn’t find any non-copyrighted images to use since then? Please.
Is this some sort of Asian solidarity photo pact among the “free” press?
Anyway, glad the Straits Times thinks that they remain couple goals!

I like P/C and I also like Konner's account of their rise LOL. The power vacuum in Ice Dance after 2014 is a good point, there was a massive one and I think it's not P/C's fault that stars aligned for them and they took the opportunity. I do agree that they are complacent which makes them ill-prepared for V/M comeback. It's also notable that 2 of their WC titles came in seasons where they compete part time (2016, 2019). They were not around as much as I thought they were for a dominant team.
I don’t think anyone necessarily blames P/C for their rise. I think for the most part skating fans try not to blame skaters for their federation/coaches politicking and judges doing a sh*tty job judging them. Everything @macaroni-rascal wrote was so on point and she truly managed to analyze the situation accurately (and as unbiased as possible), between Didier’s insanely strong push for them after P/B missed the Sochi podium to Gadbois giving them a glamover to the massive void TS and D/W left behind them to the rest of the teams being so vanilla that the judges just couldn't get behind any of them (which is very apparent when you see how teams like WeaPo and Chock/Bates started the 2015-2018 quad and how they finished it). Then came P/C with a shiny new packaging and skating style that for the time seemed innovative and the rest is history.
And as you correctly said, P/C’s easy ride to the top is ironically what mostly cost them the Olympic title everyone thought was theirs until TS made their comeback, they were just completely unprepared to face real strong competition and it completely threw them off. Their Worlds wins were as easy as they come, they won 2015 Worlds by 3 points (but won the FD by 6), they won 2016 worlds by 6 points and basically sailed their way through titles, then TS came back and they lost to them by 9 points in their first face-off...
For me, the biggest issue is the way P/C rose between 2014 and 2015. I wrote about it before, but the fact that their score went up by more than 43 (!!!!) points between 2014 Worlds and 2015 Worlds is something that there’s no real way to explain. Even if we ignore everything else, to suggest that they improved in a way that can somehow explain this score gap is laughable imo and it becomes even more so when you look at their PCS - going from 27.33 to 36.66 in the SD and from 41.31 to 56.70 in the FD is just unthinkable.
I still remember in PyeongChang how P/C stans talked about TS FD score improving by 3 points between the team event and the individual event and how it doesn't make sense. This goes to show exactly how little people looked at the score since in those 3 points - 1.5 points came from getting level 4 and not 3 on a step sequence (remember those e good old days when levels actually mattered? The nostalgia...) and the rest in GOE and PCS. And this was somehow “weird” while a 24.72 points increase in PCS alone within a year (which means 2 GP events,  GPF, and Euros) is logical... This is what ice dance is all about.

simmer - get to know
by @cupcakegnome
i was tagged by the amazing @whyhellosims and couldn’t pass up on this awesome opportunity to allow yall to get to know me a bit better! 💖
your name: I went on discord a few years ago for some sims help and just named my account Figaro after my favorite horse without really thinking about it... then I actually got hooked on discord and my friends started calling me Fig, so... fig it is! here’s the real fig, though, for those who are interested:
Tumblr media
hes more amazing than i could ever dream to be.
languages you speak: dutch, english, german (i'm gonna go as far as to say dutch and german are mutually intelligible, and tho this gives a bit less of an incentive to actually learn german when germans will understand ur dutch just fine, it also makes learning german significantly easier). I tried to learn greek but even after years and years i just couldnt get past the alphabet LOL. the only greek I know are the bits and pieces I learned from my time spent there, but id have 0 idea how to actually spell that stuff out.
are you a mermaid: if only!! i do feel a very strong connection to water, though—my dad built his own sailing boat and traveled the world with it, and during his travels me and my sis been visiting a lot, living on his boat with him while we did
your play style: so, so story-driven... even when I tell myself I just wanna play the game without a story for once I end up with one by the end of my play session anyway.
your selfsim picture:
Tumblr media
stories or gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or cc: I do stories most of all, but also like regular gameplay, my stories will for a very large part be game-driven, and from time to time ill post some builds. ive done a lookbook too. basically the only thing that wont have too much of a focus on my blog, despite my using it, is cc
your favorite age state: YA
your favorite season: winter
your favorite holiday: talk like a pirate day!
how was your day: actually absolutely terrible LOL. hungover, lost my temper on both a customer as well as a coworker... at least i got through it. 😂
your favorite career: admittedly, I rarely actually play careers cause my sims are way too busy or too dumb to actually be able to go there. if I had to choose any, though... I might actually go with the military
your favorite aspiration: the one that the most of my sims have completed is Friend of the World, cause I like for my sims to be sociable so it doesnt take too much effort to complete it anyway, and the reward of relationships never decaying is great
your favorite EP, SP or GP: vampires will always hold a special place in my heart, but I also absolutely love strangerville! if I had to choose any one favorite, id go with that one.
how old is your simblr: I posted some stuff in march last year but havent been active since, like, november? december? something like that
have you woohooed: yes
your favorite skill: charisma, cause theyll develop it automatically as I play
the size of your mods folder: 2.77 GB

7 Solid Reasons to Buy Garmin Marine Electronics
In case you're in the market for new marine electronics from trusted manufacturers, or if the idea has entered your thoughts, do yourself a big favor and explore Garmin's broad range of marine equipment. With three particular product offerings relying upon your financial plan and needs, the most essential things remain similar over the majority of GPS Fishfinder and Marine GPS Chartplotter. You get dependable, astounding items that are anything but difficult to use and furnish you with the clearest sonar on the water.
The best part is the user experience is awesome because of perfect adjustment with other Garmin items. From radars and Boat Autopilots to Marine GPS Chartplotter and marine networking electronics - you have a whole new world of options from the pioneer in the marine industry.
Here are seven solid reasons that make purchasing Garmin marine electronics an easy and safe decision. Check out:
 1. Perfect Combination of Quality & Reliability
Having high caliber and dependable marine gadgets keeps you on the water longer, so you can keep your focus on what's critical - getting fish and cashing a check. For some years, Garmin pro-level fishers have been relying on the GPSMAP 7600xsv series Chartplotters for Small Boats and no wonder they are completely awed with how dependable and effective the units have been.
In certain situations, when you get out there and your electronics products don't work, you're done and have lost a ton of cash. When you purchase something that is sure to deliver high performance and turns on when you need it to that is a huge help.
 2. Extraordinary Customer Service
Regardless of whether you're having issues making sense of a specific setting, need assistance investigating, or basically have a suggestion on how the brand can improve its product and items - it's always ready to help!
The designers and marine electronics support group acknowledge your concern with attention. Toward the finish of each season, the brand takes a seat with aces and asks them what they need to see for one year from now. The product engineers at Garmin work determinedly to have these progressions taken off for significant software update toward the start of every year.
In the recent past, you have the Multiple Depth Range Shading, extended VIRB combination with Wi-Fi-enabled Garmin Chartplotter Radar Combo, and Quickdraw Contours apart from many other major improvements in the world of marine electronics.
 3. Latest in Technology - Panoptix LiveVü Forward Sonar
Since Garmin Panoptix was reported in mid-2015, it has changed the definition of competitive fishing. Tour-level experts, weekend warriors, and many guides are seeing the advantages Panoptix offers them on the water. Given that, it's pretty satisfying for them in a noteworthy manner. This game-changing innovation has been a benchmark for some top finishes for the pro level fishermen.
Consider it along these lines - One fish (or two) that you wouldn't have generally gotten could be the contrast between winning Angler of the Year, winning a competition, or notwithstanding trading a check in for cold hard currency a competition as opposed to not getting the money for a check.
4. Experience the Clearest Sonar on the Water with "Genuine" CHIRP Sonar
CHIRP Sonar bears you the capacity to see submerged in better detail than any time in recent memory. With Garmin's scope of reasonable, across-the-board CHIRP transducers, offering SideVü, ClearVü, and conventional 2D CHIRP sonars, you'll get a definitive one-two punch. You further experience the capability to find fish and structure a lot simpler as compared to non-CHIRP sonar, owing to far superior target division.
 5. Simple-to-Use Products
With the extensive range of Garmin GPS Marine electronics, complex doesn't mean entangled. Garmin units are stuffed with many complex highlights, in an instinctive and easy-to-use interface to ensure a satisfied user experience. To fulfill the requirements of both freshwater and saltwater fishers, Garmin CHIRP GPSMAP 7600xsv series touch screen chartplotters are stacked with the best of intensity and many more highlights.
The echoMAP CHIRP units are accessible with either freshwater (US or Canada) or saltwater mapping, contingent upon the model you select. This is the mid-range unit with push-button & CHIRP transducer, and works well with Panoptix (7-inch models and up). In conclusion, the STRIKER series comprises of passage level fishfinders with implicit GPS and are packaged with CHIRP transducers. There are no mapping abilities. However, exploring your fishing spots is simple, as you can store your past tracks and waypoints. You won't locate this much value for your money in other passage level gps fish finder garmin available on our http://www.boemarine.com The straightforward UI makes Garmin GPS Marine and electronics simple to use and learn.
 6. LakeVü HD and Quickdraw Contours Mapping
Garmin has a committed armada of bathymetric overview vessels and teams that work all year to present to you the restrictive LakeVü HD Ultra mapping. The 99 MaxDef lakes and tallying capabilities of LakeVü HD Ultra offer Garmin users the capacity to have the most point-by-point maps wherever they sail.
Another latest highlight is Quickdraw Contours. The free and simple software in a flash makes HD fishing maps with 1-foot shapes. It'll even enhance existing maps! When you're done mapping the territories you need, keep them private or transfer them to the Quickdraw Community on Garmin Marine GPS Connect.
 7. Perfect Integration with a Massive Suite of Garmin Products
When you buy a Wi-Fi-enabled chartplotter from Garmin, it opens up different ways to coordinate with several other Garmin items.
- Enjoy complete control over VIRB series activity cameras. With an interface to your chartplotter, you will pick up accessibility to G-Metrix information, for example, water depth, water temperature, and boat speed to overlay on your video and include excitement value.
- Looking down at your chartplotter to check water depth and the temperature is a relic of past times. Garmin Nautix In-View show appends directly to your shades and streams NMEA 2000 information.
- Whether you have a perfect Garmin chartplotter Radar Combo or not, the FÄnix 3 and Quatix 3 smartwatches serve as a must-have accessory for any individual who cherishes the outside. You can even begin/stop your Garmin VIRB! In case you are an extravagance watch buff, you're certainly going to need to look at our new FÄnix Chronos.
All in all, the next time you plan to purchase some new marine stuff, you better know why you should invest in Garmin GPS Marine electronics!

SAILGP New York 2019 – Japan takes first ever SailGP event win in New York In front of fan-lined shores, Japan beat Australia to sit atop the leaderboard by one point NEW YORK – June 22, 2019 – In front of large crowds lining the waterfront in downtown Manhattan, the Japan SailGP Team – helmed by double Olympic medalist Nathan Outteridge – beat off strong competition from Tom Slingsby’s Australia SailGP Team to win its first event in the inaugural SailGP season. An intense final match race took place between the two notorious rivals on the Hudson River racecourse, which saw drama before the start as the high-powered F50s, capable of intense speeds, made contact. A penalty to Australia saw Japan eventually get the better of the season’s leaders and take the victory in New York. “Here we knew it would be a challenge and what I am really proud about is that our whole team focused every single step of the way,” said Outteridge. “I am relieved because we really needed a win, we deserved to win, and I am proud of everyone’s effort. The Aussies are, without a doubt, the team to beat, and I think now we are starting to even out the playing field and can’t wait until Cowes.” New York’s urban landscape provided an extra challenge for the world-class athletes this week as they battled shifting breezes and varied wind speeds on a smaller, more challenging racecourse. Boat handling and maneuvering on the foils was significantly more of a factor than ever before as the boats flew around the Hudson at the fastest speeds yet seen on SailGP, with the Australia team hitting a top speed of 48.69 knots (nearly 60 mph). It was the superior adaptability of the Japanese team that won the event on the Hudson. “It was tough conditions, but the Japan team was better. They’ve been better than us the last two days, and they deserve the win,” said Slingsby. “The way this sport has gone, and the way Nathan and my careers have gone has been amazing, and we’re so happy to be here racing each other; unfortunately, it’s on different teams, but it also makes it more fun.” The United States SailGP Team, led by Rome Kirby, gave the estimated 30,000 people lining the shore a reason to cheer when they crossed the finish line first in race five. Scoring its first ever SailGP win on home turf was a special moment for the United States SailGP Team, and a move that placed the crew third overall at the event. “The boys were pretty fired up to go racing today, and it showed,” said Kirby. “To win a race is awesome but we want to win events. But we’re happy to be on the podium, and it was awesome to see the crowd out there.” Only one point separates Japan and Australia on the Season 1 leaderboard, but now four teams have proved they are capable of winning races, putting the pressure on for the next event in Cowes. One team that will be looking forward to racing in Cowes is the Great Britain SailGP Team, which suffered a capsize on the Hudson that significantly damaged its wingsail. The British will be eager for redemption in front of their hometown crowd at the first European event of SailGP’s inaugural season. “It’s been a disappointing weekend all in all for us – we learned a lot from our capsize yesterday, and I’m proud as a team of how we came back after that setback,” said helmsman Dylan Fletcher. SailGP’s next stop is Cowes, UK, over the weekend of August 10-11, when the home of British sailing will be able to witness the intense racing and awe-inspiring speeds of the F50s. New York SailGP Results 1 // Japan // 49pts 2 // Australia // 45pts 3 // United States // 37pts 4 // China // 33pts 5 // France // 32pts 6 // Great Britain // 27pts

BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IN ITALY
DEADLINE 15TH OF JULY
WHERE:
Imperia, Italy
WHEN:
September-October-November
Minimum required: 30 days
Number of interns per month: 2/3
About The project
The dolphin research project ?Delfini del Ponente?
http://delfinidelponente.costabalenae.it/ is the first project focused on
monitoring bottlenose dolphins in the Western Ligurian Sea. Due to the
morphology of the seafloor, this area is not a usual habitat for this
species and historically, sightings have been more rare and sporadic than
in the Levantine side of the region. The continental shelf is, in fact,
very short and high depths (around 2000 m) are reached quite close to the
shore making the area suitable for other cetacean species but not for
bottlenose dolphins, which tend to remain in waters with a depth not
exceeding 200 m. Despite this knowledge of the range of the species, an
interesting change has been noted in recent years in the area. Reports of
bottlenose dolphins by others research groups, fishermen and whale watching
vessels are almost tripled compared to previous seasons. Therefore, the
project aims to monitor bottlenose dolphins in the region to understand the
extent of this change and what drove it. It is structured on an annual
basis, in order to obtain data not only on the distribution during the
summer, but also changes during the different seasons.
During the dedicated survey, data on marine birds ( Gannets, Shearwaters,
Terns .. ), fish species and turtles are collected.
Programme: Interns are invited to assist the biologists of Costa Balenae in
different activities:
-
participation in field research activities in the Pelagos Sanctuary
-
monitoring the presence and distribution of the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops
truncatus) during dedicated surveys (10-12 per month)
-
environmental and ecological data collection regarding the species
inhabiting the Ligurian Sea (cetaceans, fishes, seabirds ..)
-
transcription of data collected at sea, database updating
-
photo-identification and matching of bottlenose dolphin photos
-
opportunistic surveys
-
land-based surveys
-
lessons and training about cetacean ecology, biology and the most
important research techniques used
The internship is a great opportunity for anyone keen to start a career in
cetacean research or simply willing to acquire fieldwork and data
processing skills. This experience will give you the chance to work in the
Pelagos Sanctuary and enjoy its unique marine biodiversity as well as
traveling and exploring the beautiful Liguria region. Thanks to this
internship you will support cetacean research and conservation in one of
the most crowded and busy areas of the Mediterranean Sea.
Fieldwork will be made in coastal waters (Western Ligurian Sea). Surveys
will be conducted onboard dedicated vessels (5-6 m inflatable boat) around
10 times per month. Training will focus on collecting photo for photo-ID
purposes, environmental, geographical (GPS) and dolphins' behavioural data.
During fieldwork, participants will gain first-hand experience in
collecting data on cetaceans, seabirds and other marine fauna. Interns will
improve their skills on cetaceans boat-based surveys as well as on the use
of the photo-ID technique. Surveys are weather dependent and they can
change during the period. Interns will be busy 5 days a week, 6-8
hours/day (depending on fieldwork or labwork). During their free time,
interns will have the opportunity to experience all sorts of activities:
swimming, diving, hiking, exploring historical sites, visit museums,
sailing.
Skills/qualification:
? Minimum age of 18
? Prior experience in cetaceans or boat-based surveys is preferred but not
required,
? Degree or on-going studies in biology, natural science, veterinary or
similar (preferred)
? Strong motivation and interest in cetaceans and research
? Speak, read and write in fluent English
? Be adaptable as fieldwork is weather dependent
? Be prepared to spend many hours on a small zodiac (5-6 m) and under the
sun or in harsh conditions
. Be prepared to spend long days in an office environment in cause of bad
weather
? Be sociable and willing as they are expected to live and work in an
international team
Internship fee
Delfini del Ponente is a self-funded research project, so participation in
this programme requires a tuition fee. Fee includes the accommodation in an
apartment in Imperia, tuition and all associated field costs during the
internship period (use of research vessel, training, use of equipment,
field trips). Transportation expenses to and from Imperia (Italy), own
insurances, and food costs during the stay are not included in the fee.
Information about Costa Balenae
Costa Balenae is a cooperative organization founded by a group of
biologists and naturalists with twenty years of experience in the fields of
scientific research, environmental education, territorial development, and
sustainable tourism. The passion for nature, its conservation and the
development of commercial tourism activities that make knowledge, awareness
and sustainability a point of strong entrepreneurial imprinting are the
main characteristics of the cooperative.
