Fil-Am Joshua Munzon heads 65 PBA draft picks
#PHnews: Fil-Am Joshua Munzon heads 65 PBA draft picks
MANILA – As expected by fans and observers alike, Joshua Munzon was the first pick of the regular Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Draft held virtually on Sunday night.
And for the Philippines' No. 1 3x3 player, it is a great privilege that he headlines what many touted as the most talent laden draft class in recent history.
Including the four Gilas picks, 65 players were drafted, setting the new record for the most players selected in a single draft
"I'm just super honored and super excited to be in this position," said Munzon, who is making his way back into professional 5-on-5 play.
Terrafirma took the 26-year-old Munzon, who was born in Long Beach, California, first in the regular draft as the team looks to groom him as replacement for CJ Perez, who was traded to San Miguel last month.
"I'm ready to come in and get to work," the 6-foot-4 Munzon further said. "I just want to come in, contribute, be a good teammate, somebody who works hard, be a good example on and off the court, and just continue to get better myself."
The Dyip later used the Beermen's supposed draft pick which was included in the trade package for Perez, the eighth pick in the regular draft, to select James Laput, the tallest in the draft class at 6-10.
NorthPort took high-flying forward Jamie Malonzo with the second pick and later picked Troy Rike with the 11th pick, the draft selection they got from TNT as part of a 2018 trade between Mo Tautuaa and Terrence Romeo.
NLEX drafted Calvin Oftana third overall, TNT got Mikey Williams with the fourth pick, while Rain Or Shine went for Santi Santillan with the fifth pick and Alaska took Ben Adamos with the sixth pick.
Phoenix took bruising big man Larry Muyang with the seventh pick, Meralco went with Alvin Pasaol No. 9, and Magnolia picked Jerrick Ahanmisi at No. 10.
Ginebra then busted a lot of mock draft picks by taking Ken Holmqvist at No. 12, the last pick for the first round, and Brian Enriquez at No. 13, the first pick of the second round.
On the other hand, without a first-round selection, Blackwater made the most out of the second round by taking former Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League stars Reymark Acuno and Josh Torralba at 14th and 15th, respectively.
The Aces then pulled off a surprise of its own by taking Taylor Browne at No. 16 even as they then selected Alec Stockton at No. 21.
Franky Johnson, who was tipped as a potential first round pick in some late mock drafts, slid to the second round with the Elasto Painters taking him 17th overall, and they later selected Anton Asistio at No. 22 and Andrei Caracut at No. 23.
The Fuel Masters scored a coup by selecting Nick Demusis 18th overall and Aljun Melecio 19th overall, while the Road Warriors took David Murrell 20th overall.
Notable draftees taken after the second round include MPBL star Dhon Reverente (25th by Terrafirma), former juniors basketball star and actor Andre Paras (27th by Blackwater), Ken Mocon, the younger brother of Javee (29th by ROS), former University of the Philippines star Jun Manzo (38th by Blackwater), former University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) juniors champion Philip Manalang (50th by ROS), fellow former UAAP high school star Jerie Pingoy (52nd by Phoenix), and former Jose Rizal University stalwart Jed Mendoza (61st by NorthPort).
 Jordan Heading 'grown a lot'
Meanwhile, Jordan Heading believes his career has improved following his stint with the RP Youth Team as he makes a return to national team play.
"I think I've grown a lot. I've learned from a lot of really great coaches and players that I've been able to take a lot of lessons from," said Heading, who has been called up to Gilas Pilipinas.
The call-up was formalized by making him the first pick of the special Gilas draft also on Sunday night.
Terrafirma holds the rights to Heading even as the former Alab Pilipinas guard will team up with Isaac Go, the first pick of the previous Gilas draft in 2019 also by the Terrafirma franchise.
"I plan to bring [the lessons] with me with Gilas and when I get to the PBA as well," Heading vowed. "[The fans] can expect me to really play my hardest and bring a positive attitude in everything that I do. Whatever Coach Tab [Baldwin] needs of me, I'm gonna do just that, and I'm gonna try my best to play my role and do what's needed of me," Heading said.
NorthPort then took Will Navarro with the second pick of the Gilas round even as NLEX drafted Tzaddy Rangel at No. 3 and TNT took Jaydee Tungcab at No. 4.
Like in the case of Go, Rey Suerte, Allyn Bulanadi, and twin brothers Matt and Mike Nieto, the four Gilas picks this year will stay with the national team until they get released to their mother teams. (PNA)

New Post has been published on PBA-Live
New Post has been published on https://pba-live.com/on-the-off-chance-that-pba-season-closes-today-these-groups-will-get-top-picks-in-new-kid-on-the-block-draft/
On the off chance that PBA season closes today, these groups will get top picks in new kid on the block draft
Tumblr media
PBA fans woke up to the news that Blackwater is moving to exchange new kid on the block Bobby Ray Parks to TNT KaTropa for two future first-round picks, Don Trollano and likely another player that would persuade the PBA that it’s a reasonable arrangement.
Indeed, the Parks exchange didn’t come as an astonishment to most, particularly since the new kid on the block out of National University has been reputed to be headed to the MVP Group only days after he was made the No. 2 pick by and large by the Elite in the last new kid on the block draft.
The main shock was, he is set to wind up at TNT and not at Meralco, where he should be trained by his ninong Norman Black.
In addition, the Dioceldo Sy-possessed Blackwater establishment has been on reshuffle method generally, exchanging endlessly players like Mike DiGregorio, Allein Maliksi, and Raymar Jose while balancing another disillusioning PBA season.
All things considered, Elite fans need not worry.
In light of our figurings, the Elite will in all probability get the No. 1 pick generally speaking in the following PBA youngster draft, which would offer the previous development establishment the chance to acquire a top enroll to replace Parks as an establishment player in pausing.
The PBA draft rules, obviously, have changed the most recent couple of years as the class got rid of the lottery as far back as the scandalous ‘salamangkero’ allegations heaved by Rain or Shine on previous magistrate Chito Salud.
Presently, the guidelines are a lot less complex: the group with the most exceedingly terrible exhibition regarding placings in the momentum season – with the all-Filipino Philippine Cup given more weight than the two import-loaded meetings – get the No. 1 pick. The subsequent most exceedingly terrible gets the No. 2 determination, etc.
In light of our projections, Blackwater, on the quality of its twelfth spot finish in the all-Filipino and ninth spot in the Commissioner’s Cup, will in all likelihood get the opportunity to pick in front of every other person in the Dec. 8 draft procedures.
Despite the fact that the season’s not finished, the top pick isn’t required to change since Blackwater is set out toward another last-place finish in the Governors Cup while the following most noticeably awful group, Columbian, is battling for a spot in the end of the season games.
Blackwater just has two games left to play – against San Miguel on Nov. 6 and against Phoenix on Nov. 15 – and the group will probably be without Parks in those games if the exchange gets the PBA green light on Monday.
That implies the Sy-possessed establishment will get first break at a pool that is relied upon to have Thirdy Ravena, Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, Fil-Am Jamie Malonzo, Mike and Matt Nieto, Jerrick Balanza, Fil-Am Roosevelt Adams, Troy Rike, and Adrian Wong.
Not terrible, isn’t that so?
What’s more, if the ebb and flow variant of the Parks exchange holds – Parks in return for TNT’s first-round picks in 2019 and 2021 or more Trollano – at that point Blackwater will get another first-round pick in the following drafting.
With respect to Columbian and Alaska, which are relied upon to pick second and third, separately, both are required to get hold of players that could change the course of their individual establishments.

Bale nadagdagan ng cash because of that kaya may difference sa actual cash. Dapat idropped sa accounting 'yung ledger ng PNB. And 'yung other difference e sa Veterans.

UAAP Final 4 cast complete as FEU qualifies, UP seals 2nd seed
#PHnews: UAAP Final 4 cast complete as FEU qualifies, UP seals 2nd seed
MANILA — The UAAP men's basketball Final 4 is now cast.
The Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons scored separate wins to secure their spots in the postseason festivities on Sunday night, with UP's win catapulting the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers into the next round.
However, the Tamaraws and the Fighting Maroons won in contrasting ways.
FEU romped University of the East Red Warriors, 82-58, in the first game.
The Tamaraws went on a 25-12 second quarter run to pull away for good from the Red Warriors.
Wendell Comboy made 17 points, four rebounds, and one block, while Royce Alforque added 13 points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal for the now 8-6 FEU, which sealed the third seed in the process as it owns the tiebreaker over UST due to a superior head-to-head quotient.
LJ Gonzales put up a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds with four assists and one steal.
Rey Suerte made 16 markers, 11 boards, four dimes, and five steals, while Alex Diakhite added 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks for UE, which slipped to 3-10.
On the other hand, UP had to make a late comeback to eliminate the De La Salle Green Archers, 71-68.
Up by as much as 16 points in the second quarter but trailing, 66-68, within the last two minutes, the Fighting Maroons scored the last five points of the game highlighted by a go-ahead dunk from Kobe Paras to steal the win against the Green Archers.
Bright Akhuetie made 17 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals for UP, which finally sealed the second seed by moving up to 9-4, and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.
The semifinals format will depend on UP's Wednesday night game against the 13-0 Ateneo Blue Eagles.
A win by the Blue Eagles will give them a 14-0 sweep and also force the stepladder format, which means the Tamaraws and the Growling Tigers will have to face off one more time for the right to face the Fighting Maroons.
But a UP win will prevent the sweep and will force the traditional Final Four format, in which Ateneo, already assured of a twice-to-beat edge, will play UST, while UP will take on FEU.
Jaime Malonzo made 17 markers, 11 boards, two steals, one steal, and one block for La Salle, which was knocked out of contention with a 6-7 record.
