I am the hero here. I assist the greatest mind in centuries in his goal to bring about a better future for everyone. Yet I am hated and dismissed for not being the real Sonic.

And yet, I see myself in the zombots. Just another robotic version of someone's friend designed to kill.

when belle meets metal, she offers him a spare voice chip she kept with her in case of malfunctions, but he refuses to use it, as belle can understand his beeps and boops just fine. she assumes it's because they're both robotic, and they team up.
they develop a sibling bond throughout the story, fighting zombots together, trying to find eggman's base from just before he was infected, and hopefully find a cure. they meet orbot and cubot, who are comedically desperate to have someone to boss them around again, and dig up all of eggman and starline's recent files and blueprints, hoping maybe belle and metal will find something they've missed.
and then belle sees it.
her own blueprints.
realization hits her like a train. why her father was always given nervous glances. why people would call him eggman and then correct themselves. why metal wasn't hostile towards her- why NONE of the badniks were hostile towards her- why she could communicate with badniks even when they weren't using spoken tongue.
she is one of them.
but after everything metal supported her through, the help orbot and cubot gave them both... was there really a "them" anymore?

Hi I have a oc that was partially infected by the metal virus but couldn't become a zombot somehow (lotta lore lol) and was wondering if she could show up in the au? "Mira the Cat"
she's a very cool oc! however i don't think i'll be able to show her with the lore without majorly affecting the story. she could have a cameo in the background, but she'd have to be a zombot regardless.

yknow sometimes i genuinely forget remnants is something i made and not actually canon bc the character teamups, story, and dynamics feel too accurate in my mind to NOT be canon.
like having metal working alongside blaze feels weird but it also works, which is something you'd get out an idw annual or smth.
lanolin essentially holds starline captive... but she would!
belle and metal have a nervous interaction but stay friendly the whole time like when they first meet in canon.
the stars aligned for all the right characters to stay uninfected for this story to work. god bless you flynn and stanley, god bless you
