On the bench today I’ve got a bit of an Egyptian revival theme going on. I’m creating a necklace with all sorts of oddities including a ceramic scarab beetle I made from an antique milk glass scarab pendant I came across on my travels. Creating Roman Greyware beads again, this time slightly smaller so they balance with the Roman glass beads I’ve found. Roman glass beads are fascinating as many come from Afghanistan where the Romans traded along the Silk Road 2000 years ago. There is so much excess glass from excavations that local artisans carve amazing beads from surplus supplies rather than them be thrown away. Here I’ve taken two green glass pieces of similar size and stacked them with rustic pewter discs, Greyware beads and rough tumbled red garnets.
