Armorcast Reaver Titan, Stages 2-3

So my next step immediately after cleaning up the various components was to do a basic pass using my hobby knife to look for any notable areas of flash or visible mold lines. When that was done, the next step was to do something slightly unusual.

The concept of this Titan is that it was finished with metal and components taken from parts of loyalist Titans lost in the early battles of the Heresy, and then dedicated as a sort of memorial to the betrayed dead of those early acts of infamy. I looked for the right theme and then saw an idea by another member of a Horus Heresy group. He was building a Khorne themed traitor Titan, and had this sort of interesting idea to cover the surface with skulls, which is something you occasionally see in artwork or even (usually badly) airbrushed models. It was very cool idea, and I decided to go partly with the concept. As a result, I’ve covered roughly forty percent of the Titan, on its left side from viewer perspective, in skulls. This makes it a sort of grand ossuary for Horus’ victims. I think it’ll be fairly spectacular when finished. Here are the completed pieces. Next step is to go over and file down any bits of flash or sprue on the skulls, and then I can begin the painting process.

Jeder der sich mit dem Adeptus Machanicus und näher mit ihrer Abteilung dem Collegia Titanica beschäftigt würde gern mal einen solchen Blick riskieren. Und wen wundert es? Die Komplexität des Adeptus ist weithin bekannt und bietet so manches an Wissen für den interessierten Leser. Und speziell das Collegia Titanica ist hochinteressant. Bereits In diesem Dreiteiler gings, allerdings eher nebensächlich, um einen Warlord, einen Reaver und zwei Warhound Titanen, die in einer Art Rudel agieren. Wie ihre Maschinengeister es Vorgaben. Aber ist das überall so? Die "des Mars-" Trilogie habe ich bereits vorgestellt, falls ihr euch dort nochmal informieren wollt. Und es wird noch ein weiteres Buch über Titanen von mir gepostet kommen. Es ist bereits gelesen und für gut befunden worden ;) Ich sag nur "Titan der Imperator Klasse". . In diesem Buch treffen wir wieder auf Warlords, Reaver und so weiter. Aber dieses mal haben wir eine ganz andere Größenordnung. Man könnte fast sagen es geht um 2 Titanen Armeen. Eigentlich auf der selben Seite, auf der des Imperiums, aber dennoch zerstritten. Leider haben sie gleich zu Beginn harte Gegner vor der Linse. Tyraniden... Gigantisch große Tyraniden. Es gibt im Warhammer40k Universum nur eine Fraktion die der Menschheit noch mehr zu schaffen macht. Das Chaos! . Also was haben wir hier?: Zwei verschiedene Titanen Legionen (Titanen Geschichte incomming), üble Gegner, fiese Charaktere und eine Menge Action. So what I’ve done here is to use Black Templar contrast on the portions of the Titan that will be raw metal or covered in the skulls of martyrs.

These portions were inked with the contrast, allowed to dry, and then dry brushed with a light metal color to bring down the metal shade.

Here is an example from the carapace. I think that it is particularly illustrative in that you can see the plate mail metal of the base color contrasted with an example of the darker wash. Don’t worry about the skulls or the other colors: we’ll get to them!

WIP: Reaver Titan (A crazy morning!) This morning was a crazy emotional roller coaster ride. - Had covered up all the magnets up nicely yesterday, and time to check the magnets pull. - Not nearly good enough, and I thought it might be the layer of sculpting putty in between the magnets. - So I removed all the sculpting putty on top of the magnets, to give them better pull. - This was still not enough grip, even on the lighter gun (above). So I spent nearly two hours trying to come up with solutions. The most obvious was getting much stronger magnets, but that would take more time and slow everything further.This was still not enough, even on the lighter gun (above). I could also make a fancy locking mechanism. Or hollow out the guns, making them lighter. etc etc. 😑 But then a simple solution came to me... - TAPE FOR THE TAPE GOD!!! FRICTION FOR THE FRICTION THRONE!!! - Carefully rolling the tape around the arm joint, sealing it with glue, until it could fit into the gun nicely. - And BLAM! The joint fit perfectly together, and I can even shake the about with them separating! 😀 Only downside is that the guns are slightly different, so can't change sides.
