realized that even after luis shoots the knife away from krauser he doesn't lower his gun... like even though literally takes all of his strength to stay upright he has to ensure that leon is no longer in danger before he collapses.

I cannot get over the fact that when Ashley asks Leon what happened after he fell through the floor in the dungeon he’s like ‘nothing :)) you were right they were just keeping some animals down there, weird right :))’. It’s just so sweet that after all she’s been through he’s still trying to protect her from the horrors as much as he can 😭 but also please go to therapy Leon you can’t keep just internalising all your horrifying experiences

I love how Luis immediately accepts that he and Leon are going to die when the brake snaps off during the mine cart ride. It shows so distinctly how different they are and how different their minds work. Luis, however competent in battle he may be, is a scientist. He deals in cold hard fact and analyses data as it comes. Leon is a fighter. He’s trained to access situations and look for the best possible alternative. Leon decides they are going to jump, Luis follows him because he knows there’s a chance they might make it.

I know this has probably already been discussed, but... It is a major clever detail for the "got a smoke" question to be the secret code referenced between Luis and Ada in their emails. A detail that's easy to miss and a detail that I did miss the first few times around.

Look at the difference between how Luis reacts to Leon and Ada's responses. With Leon giving him, "Those things will kill you," which lets him know that Leon isn't working for the people that are coming to protect him, he becomes a little bit dismissive and even slightly disappointed. At least at first, until he and Leon get chained together. And then he becomes curious. But his initial response to Leon's reply can easily be taken as Luis being disappointed that Leon isn't carrying cigarettes, and I think it's how Luis tries to play it off, but when you realize that it means he knows that this guy isn't there to help him, it takes on a new tone.

For Ada, when she responds with the correct phrase, "I do. The kind you like," notice the smile he gives her. There is an excitement, but also almost a relief in the way his eyes light up. It is also likely that this was their first face-to-face meeting because why else would they be using the code if they've already established that she was the woman he was supposed to meet up with? And as a result, he knows it's Ada because who else would it be but the woman he had been emailing?

And we know that she doesn't actually know what brand he prefers because when he does actually ask her in the emails to pick him up a pack along the way, he tells her that "any brand" is OK. So this is the clue that we get to tell us that it's their designated secret code.

Again this is just so clever.

Krauser in the remake might be a completely different character and I kind of want to ramble a bit since I can’t get it out of my mind.

There’s a possibility he was an inside man all along and wasn’t the villain we thought he might be. Him playing the villain might have been on purpose. Buckle up because I am delusional and will be connecting the dots.

Where have I gotten the idea from? The intel Hunnigan says they got at the beginning of the game. What if. What if that’s Krauser’s doing?

Now stay with me for a second, I’ll explain. Because I keep thinking. Like. He was so hot and cold to Leon. He had that teacher and drill sargeant pendulum thing — he was acting like this was all to test Leon and his skills and what he has learned. One second he berates him and the other he praises, saying he expected nothing less from Leon.

And especially, he accepts his death, and you see that he respects Leon. Not at all like how he was taunting him just a few minutes ago. Leon thinks Krauser has lost it completely but, has he really?

On one hand you SEE him hanging on to the dog tags. He keeps the files. Yet he talks about power but Leon points out yes he was an asshole but he had a moral code, this is a soldier.

AND Leon is surprised to see him turn up so we also know he was on duty and hadnt disappeared or anything until the last second... I really keep thinking if Krauser was an inside man or not and sacrificed himself for Ashley’s and ultimately the country’s safety in the end. He got infected on purpose. He knew he had to die in the end. He had to make sure Leon was capable to finish the mission, and when he did, he didn’t fight his death. Maybe he sees it as he’s finally being released and set free after losing everything we just dont know.

He could have had the revenge excuse, but if he did, Leon wouldn’t have given up on him because he’d empathize and connect with Krauser in some way, and maybe Krauser needed Leon to see him as irredeemable and not someone to save. Hence the completely OOC (in Leon’s words) “I want power” speech.

I keep thinking about it, I cant help it.

If this is indeed the case and Krauser was a mole all along, it’s genius storytelling on capcom’s side because it’s all just. Right there.

I am so disappointed they didn’t include the scene were Plagas!Leon tries to choke Ada. Not only does it provide a nice callback to the “use knives next time, works better for close encounters,” (as that’s how she defends herself from him, using a knife.) but there’s a moment right before, where Leon turns and you can see Ada stretch her hand out toward him, as if thinking he’s going to embrace her. Says so much about their relationship and how so much it would be different if it were another time, another place. Beneath her performance she yearns. She lets her guard down, and then it’s back to reality.

I’ve just watched the Leon/Ada boat scene from the RE4 Remake

and I’ve got to say...

The scene was perfect. I had a knot in my stomach leading up to it, but I shouldn’t have worried.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that Leon and Ada had an actual conversation here instead of Ada just bouncing when Leon starts to talk. You could feel the history between them even before they started talking 😤

I didn’t mind at all how guarded Leon was - it makes complete sense considering the game’s tone and their history. But in a way, he was much more open and honest with Ada than we’ve seen him be with anyone else, even with Ashley. He has to stay positive for Ashley’s sake, but with Ada he can let his cynicism show (’You try to save one person and a hundred more die‘) and he says that he thinks he’s changed (and not, perhaps, in a way he likes).

Then Ada’s voice softens when she replies that he hasn’t changed, he just thinks he has... ow 🥹

And I loved how Leon says ‘story of my life’ (instead of ‘women’) at the end, which I believe was the line in Japanese in the original RE4.

I know a lot of people have been negative about Lily’s voice acting, but she was perfect here. Her physical performance (i.e., the facial capture) was also excellent (I can’t get over Ada’s smile). I have no notes.

Her scenes with Leon so far have been the best of her performances in the game IMO. I wonder if it’s because Lily is more experienced as a screen actor so has an easier time if she has another actor to workshop a scene with and play off of (as opposed to simply speaking to someone via a radio who isn’t actually in the room with her).

The actor for RE2R Ada had only nice things to say about working with Leon’s actor. He sounds like a good scene partner, so that may have helped make Lily’s performance come across more naturally.

If I’m honest, while I think Jolene (RE2R Ada) is the stronger actor overall, I think I prefer Lily’s chemistry with Nick. I’d be glad to see Lily take on the role again for Separate Ways (DLC unconfirmed but we better get it or I’ll riot) and for the next game featuring Ada (an RE6 remake perhaps?).

Nick spoke at length about his experience working on RE2R so I can’t wait to hear what he and Lily have to say about filming this scene together 😊
