Decided Rena would be a good model for the new event background, and was reminded of back over two years ago when some people thought she might have been the Mirrors Witch, and now here she is, in front of the background from the event about the actual Mirrors Witch’s meguca form, who’s nothing like Rena at all...

Also reminded in turn that Rena has now, alongside many others, directly fought against the true Mirrors Witch herself, but given that she never fought Mikoto, I couldn’t write that in the above :(

It feels weird that the drawn to life fandom feels more active than the don't hug me I'm scared fandom. 

As much as I'm pretty sure it's because I'm actually involved with the DtL community (and that the dhmis fandom is actually a billion times more active no matter what), It's still weird. Like, dhmis has one of the tumblr sexymen of the apocalypse. And! They're getting actual new content.

A screenshot from episode 27. The character on the left there is Route, a non-navi AI that appears singularly in this filler episode. Her writing and voice acting are fine, but why is she in full cg?? I get the general usage of cg to save time and money, and her animation is fairly good for cg in the early 2000′s, but, well... I took this shot specifically to highlight what she looks like in comparison to the show’s normal animation modelled by Rock here, and it’s just bad. I still don’t know why she wasn’t just drawn in for static shots like this, though -- it’s not like it would’ve been all that hard, after all. 

I suppose it’s because they’re illustrating visually that she’s not a navi? I don’t know. She deserved better, though.

Rapo Ramblings, Sakurako Edition

Discord is having a conversation on character deaths, and Sakurako and the other Uwasa got brought up because of the Uwasa Aquarium event. Apparently, Uwasa can die, but their definition for death is a bit different. They can be destroyed by pure force, and once Nemu dies, all Uwasa will be erased, since their home, her book, will be erased as well.

Sakurako is an Uwasa, but she’s also tied to Touka’s server in Arc 2, so she’s technically a program as well. So, I’ve now decided that Sakurako is the Magireco equivalent of a Navi: Program (Uwasa) yet holds her own life force, an artificial human but also inexplicably not, tied to the state of someone else’s life and subsequent death (if Nemu dies so does Sakurako)...

Actually, wait, Uwasa are the equivalent of Navi, and Sakurako is the equivalent of Rock. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

‘Cause of the news that one of the consoles that the Exe/Battle Network Legacy Collection is gonna be released on is the Switch, I’m gonna have to get used to using mine, I’ve barely touched it because I still favor my DS when I can. So far I’ve only played a bit of The Stanley Parable on it, which doesn’t really require the level of coordination Exe does let’s face it.

I have a couple Switch games I haven’t played yet... I got a copy of one of the Ni no Kuni titles and a copy of the Untitled Goose Game, but also speaking of legacy collections, I found a copy of the Zero Legacy Collection at the game store while getting the Untitled Goose Game copy, but I’ve been too scared to play that one at all since it only occurred to me afterwards that I’d probably be missing a huge chunk of lore if I played the Zero series before X... though that would probably be the best one to train reflexes on aha.

But knowing me I’ll just keep replaying Starforce 1 because I have problems.

Instead of finishing either of the series I’m in the middle of currently, I’ve just been rewatching Starforce because I’m sick, and I ran across this line again from episode 3:

The context was Warrock explaining to Subaru about FM’s attacks. (Also please ignore the watermarks, I’m too tired to edit them out.)

Spoiler warning for those who haven’t seen the anime yet, but unlike in the game version, here Warrock had no clue he himself was from AM until the very end of the season. He’d been raised on FM to believe himself one of them, and had no reason to question anything until he ran into Daigo during the Kizuna/Peace Station attack. 

However, those lines raise the question, did the people who raised Warrock give a false narrative to him about AM, either on purpose or on accident, or does Warrock not truly know his own age? Alternatively, did his family escape before AM was destroyed, like the Satellite Admins did, and as a result, Warrock was still born on FM? I have questions, Xebec!

So, I looked up common casino games, and sadly, almost all of them involve cards. However, [poker] chips, dice, [roulette] balls, and even coins are also used. (Coins can be used for betting, but they’re also used in the Australian game ‘Two-Up’.) There’s also the possibility of using other currency, since a dealer would be the one collecting the money from bets. I’ll just have to think of attack moves that aren’t gonna overlap with other meguca. Yukika hits her chips with her sword, and Haretama summons the cards to her, rather than throwing them. I think having the dealer meguca throw chips/cards directly would be fine. Maybe her vertical blast could be throwing a card like you see in videos, and her horizontal blast could be piercing through enemies with a thrown poker chip?

Unrelatedly, every time I write ‘dealer meguca’ I imagine Tia making a contract

y’know i said to myself when magireco season 3 came out, given the likely budget cuts and clear lack of resources to extend the series, ‘wow, i hope this doesn’t end the way tribes did,’ y’know, with the whole gainax-esque final fight that barely had substance, and with its failing to give its villain the actually sympathetic backstory they have in the source material?
