Fankidtober Day 5: Selinde Mei
Solana & Lunick's daughter! Not much else to say, she's a Ranger like her parents and is a known lone-wolf (lone-Lycanrock?) ever since her rival and best friend abandoned her post and betrayed her heart.

Pokémon fankid week day 4: Journey Starts
“Are you sure you have everything?” Lunick asks for the third time. Spencer rolls his eyes. Of course that would be what his dad was worried about.
“I haven’t even left yet and you’re already worried I’m gonna forget something,” Spencer retorts. “It’s like you don’t even trust me.”
Lunick and Solana look at each other, having a secret conversation that Spencer could only wish to one day understand. Then, his dad sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Of course we trust you Spencer. It’s just... Kalos is a long way away. We’re just worried that you might have forgotten something.” Lunick says, and Solana places a hand on his shoulder.
“Though we probably shouldn’t be worried about that considering how much you did pack! Honestly I’m surprised everything fit into your bags.” She says with a laugh. Spencer smiles.
“You taught me to always be prepared so I packed everything important! Sunscreen, repels, revives, winter gear, cleaning supplies, and toothpaste are all important and needed to be packed incase I get stranded somewhere. Like in one of Paldea’s deserts!” Spencer says, then pauses for a moment. “Or on one of Kalos’ mountains, I guess.”
“And while I’m sure you could have bought some of your supplies while you were travelling, you at least have them in case of emergencies between here and Kalos.” Solana shares. She is nervously tapping her fingers on Lunick’s shoulder, and Spencer can tell that she’s worried too.
It’s nice to know that they’re both worried for him, but he’s twelve now. He can handle a little adventure, and Kalos was the perfect place for him to start. Close enough to home that it would be an easy flight back if something did go wrong, but far enough that he would have a fresh start. People won’t know him for his dad’s accomplishments, they’d just know him as Spencer.
“I’ll be fine. I’ll keep you both updated like we talked about. I’ll keep my supplies fresh, just like you taught me.” He says, grinning widely now.
“As long as you’re sure you have everything, then I guess we can go.” Lunick says, giving Spencer a nervous grin. Somewhere in the background, he hears Finnegan cheer that they’re finally leaving. Spencer feels the same.
He can’t wait to start his new adventure in Kalos.

OOC
Gonna be answering this OOC, since there's a lot of blogs I want to shout out. This is far from a comprehensive list, as I decided to only do four for each category, but I hope it will suffice.
⭐: Who do you respect a lot as a member of the community?
@friendball-irl - My first friend in the community, and Tropius' adoptive father. I'm so happy to have met them.
@sneasedtomeetyou - The person running a lot of the stuff that keeps the community going, such as the pkmnirlevents blog. I consider them part of the backbone of the community.
@aerial-aceing-it - I don't see them around much anymore, but they were another of my early friends in the community. They and their characters are so much fun to interact with!
@ariadosanon - I don't interact with them a lot, but they've fostered a lot of stuff in the community through their events. I respect that.
🩹: Who do you want to give a hug to the most?
@water-pokemon-appreciator @blueflare7pkmn @goomyanon - The whole traumatized trio of Yinny's adopted children. They've all been through so much, and they all deserve lots of hugs.
@ballonleastadiumofficial - I'm not sure this kid has ever gotten a hug in their life.
📣: Who is someone you'd recommend new/other people to check out?
@whimsical-westbrook - A very new blog, as far as I can tell, about a trans girl who wakes up as a Buizel of her preferred gender. I'm absolutely loving it so far, and I'm really excited to see more!
@gotta-pet-em-all - A very lovely blog about a person with disabilities. Fluff's character is top-notch, and I really enjoy every interaction she has with Tropius!
@paldean-ranger-brandy - My personal favorite of the "topic expert" blogs, this blog is all about rangership and trees. I've learned a lot of really cool stuff about trees from this blog!
@piers-official - I adore this person's characterization of Piers and Marnie. They're really cool, interesting, and have a ton of personality!
There's far more I want to shout out, but I've had this ask open for an hour now, so I think it's best I stop here for now.

For @tolkiengenweek day one, family, mentorship, community
Here are just a few examples of headcanons about apprenticeship, mentorship and craft in Beleriand with as much world building as I can add in
I talk about Noldorin practices of apprenticeship in Valinor here!
Elven education
Three notes:
1. For this I did the Noldor of Beleriand, the Sindar of Doriath, the Halidan and the Bëorians. this does not comprise all the peoples of Middle Earth and Arda so please feel free to send me more groups for me to go over!
2. I also didn’t go into all or even most of the crafts and trades so also feel free to ask more about that or ask about a group I covered here so I can go more in detail
3. I mostly focused on practical crafts and trades and not ones usually undertaken as artistic pursuits but these absolutely existed too and as always feel free to ask about them!
Elves:
The Noldor had a complex system of apprenticeship in Valinor but this was largely abandoned in Beleriand. Most of the hosts of both Fëanor and Fingolfin had already gone through one and/or were skilled in at least one trade or craft.
During the Watchful Peace and other calmer periods, a less intensive system was used by some of the Noldorin establishments in Beleriand. Youth born in Beleriand were encouraged to take up at least one trade regardless of if they planned to later take part in the war.
Gondolin and Nargothrond both utilizes practices from their Noldorin and Sindarin founders and Nargothrond also had influence from two Telerin peoples; the Falmari under Olwë in Valinor and the Falathrim under Círdan in Beleriand.
Noldorin youth tend to undergo apprenticeships for what would be about three to six years for humans and often longer. Two to four years was average in Beleriand. They live in the home of their mentor and typically pay by taking part in caring for the house and land and by assisting in any trade for profit their teacher takes part in (for example delivering finished metal work for a blacksmith, etc)
Mentor relationships are highly valued among the Noldor who love the pursuit of knowledge and learning. In Valinor some period of teaching is expected for experts in their craft, trade or field. For those who do not wish to teach or who struggle with communicating directly, producing and writing manuals and books of instruction or history of a craft or area of study is considered nearly as valuable if not equally so to directly teaching.
Metalwork and smithing including weapon making, collecting, utilizing and crafting with minerals and ores, carpentry, building and architecture, hunting and rangership, and some forms of cultivation were among the more common trades.
Sindar of Doriath: Among the royal family and the collection of families that live in and around Menengroth, children are taught in small groups history, lore, language and runes, forestcraft,
Outside Menengroth these topics and others are usually taught within families or sometimes organized among collections of families.
Elves who have lived long in Doriath and are extremely knowledgeable about the world around them are an important part of learning especially for the elves who live outside Menengroth. Though there is not necessarily a formal system, most growing elflings find mentors in their smaller communities often choosing them based on what parts or aspects of Doriath they are partial to or their philosophy of the forests.
Formal apprenticeships are also not uncommon both in and out of Menengroth. Cultivation and use of silk and fibers, fiber crafts, herbalism and herb/plant lore, rangership and cultivation of plants and other things grown, collected or otherwise used for food, and record keeping are among the more common trades.
Edain:
Halidan
The Halidan do not have a formal apprenticeship system but rather decide and delegate within families and smaller community groups. It is not uncommon for children to shadow relatives or others close to the family to learn their craft or trade. We know from The Children of Húrin that the Edain in Beleriand frequently sent their children to stay with others to study or learn fighting.
Leather work, carpentry and woodwork, hunting and defense, and herb lore and medicine were among the common trades. Leather came from the pigs the Halidan kept and through trade with the Hadorians
Prior to Dagor Bragollach, the Bëorians had a custom of apprentice and mentorship similar to the Noldor (though not necessarily learned from them, these developed independently). Youth would leave their homes to stay with an expert in their trade to assist them and learn from them. Typically, crafters would announce when they had need of aid and the time to teach and youth would apply.
Records and history, carpentry, fiber crafts using sheep wool and goats fir as well as fibrous plants, cultivation and agriculture, and medicine and healing practices were among the common trades
Requests and asks are open and welcome!

Thinking about LOTR and the Rangers of the North again.
Wheremst the ladies!!! Surely there were at least some who wandered with the rest of them, helping to protect the last vestiges of not only Arnor's history but the wholesome good of the Shire? That legacy of just being lost and constantly almost losing but holding onto the small bit of hope they have - however painful the decisions.
Anyway meet Lambetha yall:
“He… Halbarad and Amdir have been brothers in arms for nearly a century.” Lambetha sighed. “They both began their rangerships in the wilds the same autumn under Arador when he was our chieftain still. They were with him that one dusk when he fell."
"What happened?"
The cold winds from the rain-soaked plains picked up to pull at the cloaks around their shoulders, looping around their ankles. Another downpour was on its way.
"Trolls. They had been a threat for the Angle for some time, but during his reign, they had begun to crawl out from the Ettinsmors and threatened our homes. Arador led a foray into their territories to hold them back - both Halbarad and Amdir went with him - but it was a bloodbath."
The ranger shuddered, turning away from the woodland they had just walked through. "Those who weren't killed outright were captured and given a far more ignoble end. When the party was down to single figures, the mission was to escape, as whole as they possibly could."
"How many managed to get back?"
"Three: the pair of them ... and my father. It would have been four, but the Chieftain took a glancing blow just before sunrise. and stayed to give them time to escape"
... so? Wren frowned. How could that have been all that stood between the man's life and death? They must have let it shown on their face, as Lambetha frowned back, tilting her head as she looked Wren over. Whatever she thought of this curious, lost young charge, it couldn't be further from the truth.
"You seem confused by this."
"A little... He went down from one hit? It doesn't make sense to me. Surely with medical attention, he could have been fine."
"My father did not mince his words about the sight of the injury, but his leg would not be saveable."
"From ... one hit?"
"One glancing hit from a troll. I thought you would have known this. Trolls, even as children's stories ... are night impossible to kill without daylight."
"Prosthetics exist? A friend of mine was born with part of her leg missing and is a competitive athlete."
It is the heavy sigh which comes from Lambetha which makes Wren wince backwards. She's crossing a line though she meant it well; the difference of worlds and attitudes over a complex and humane issue would only end with the pair of them coming to a head. Would Lambetha leave her there, as Halbarad might have wanted in his grief, if Wren stepped further afield?
“Even if he had survived such injuries … he would have had to step down and secede in place of his oldest child.”
“Why?” Wren frowned. “If he still had the capacity to lead, to help people strategise plans and make a course of action, what difference would it make if he was partially blind or missing a limb?”
“Morale, and the hope for our people. We are a legacy of old Arnor and Numenor alike in skills and faith in the world. But we are also quietly fading and the Chieftain has to embody all of these values inwards and outwards if we are to stand any chance in outlasting the war."
"That doesn't seem fair..."
"The world is anything but fair."  Lambeth turned to glance at the ruins of Amon Sûl behind them as the first showers began to drown it. "Yet we face whatever it gives us all the same."

When Did You Know?
2k Rangershipping One-Shot
Dedicated to my friend @lemonjelloarts 💛
----
In Lunick’s defense, it had been a completely innocent question, one born out of genuine curiosity. Being willing to answer the question himself, he hadn’t thought it would elicit any sort of negative response. Snuggled up after a long day on the clock, back in his room on his bed that really wasn’t made for two people, Solana had been wrapped around him like a Komala, finally warmed from her evening patrol.
The second the question had come out of his mouth, she shot away from him, rolling over onto her other side, hands covering her face. In the sudden movement, poor Plusle had to jump over onto Lunick’s stomach to keep from falling off the bed.
“You’re not allowed to ask that!” she said, voice up an octave…or two.
Replaying the conversation, he scoured every word, trying to figure out what he had asked that would get a reaction like that.
“When did you realize you liked me?”
The implication being, when did she realize she had a romantic interest in him?
Their relationship was still relatively new, and it wasn’t something he had asked, or figured out at that point, so he felt it was a fair question. Nothing he could think of would make the question itself bad…
Which meant, the question wasn’t bad. Not in the slightest.
It meant her answer was bad.
