1986 BMW R80G/S París-Dakar

Suspension
Suspension on a motorcycle manages wheel movement, absorbs shocks, and enhances ride comfort by keeping the tires connected to the road.
Front Suspension : a pair of fork tubes
Rear Suspension : a swingarm with 1 or 2 shock absorbers
A fork connects the wheel to its frame through a triple clamp.
A triple clamp consists of :
Upper :
Attaches to frame. Connects the fork tubes allowing the front wheel to pivot.
Lower :
Connects to the upper. Holds the fork tubes at the bottom. Provides stability and support to the front wheel.
Both connect through a steering stem.
A steering stem is a shaft that runs through the steering head, creating the steering axis.
Suspension Functions :
1. Absorbs shocks for a smoother ride.
2. Keeps the tires in touch with the road.
3. Influences handling and stability.
4. Distributes weight evenly.
5. Can be adjusted for rider preference.
6. Protects from bumps and impacts.
7. Affects how the motorcycle turns.
8. Supports efficient braking.
