Quill VR 3D hand drawn animation.

This is a personal project that took me forever to finish:D Animation is done by drawing the character in a VR headset in 3D space, much like you draw a 2D animation, frame by frame. Jerry from 'Soul' proved to be a perfect match for this technique, as he is a sort of a semi-flat character.

The voice for lipsync is Helen Mirren from some Youtube video. I used Quill VR on a Oculus Rift S for animating, TvPaint and After Effects for compositing. It would probably use some more polishing, but I really wanted to have it done and out to share in the public:)

Couple weeks ago I tested #Quill and it was interesting to get very stylized results due to flat shading in it :) Working in it feels quite cinematic!

I was a bit frustrated with it at first, because those scenes you create there feel so much nicer in VR, but now looking back i think i just needed a bit different mindset. Those scenes you create there you can “stage” and shot from many different camera angles, just like in normal 3d software, but it feels more >like directing< the shot thanks to the fact u are “on the set” :D The exported screenshots are rather low res and not very detailed, but i think Quill might become a very handy soft for storyboarding and finding cool compositions :)

Cannot wait till I find more time to go back to it. #quillustration
