Can I just say I adore the husbands the Featherington sisters managed to collect. They all seem so openly loving which is something I feel like all the sisters needed.

The morning after Lady Danbury's ball, Colin got up early and barely ate his breakfast as he thought over what he would say to Penelope when he called on her.
"Colin, what is the matter?" Violet asked over her cup of tea. Before Colin could Evernote spit a reply out, in rushed Eloise with the latest Lady Whistledown's Society Papers.
"She'll make up anything just to get our attention!" Eloise exclaimed. "Miss Penelope Featherington danced with three different men last night. Duke Harry Dankworth of Flintshire, Mr. Marcus Anderson and Lord Debling. Maybe it's time she hung up the shrine she holds for Mr. Colin Bridgerton." This made Eloise laugh. "Penelope having feelings for Colin, it's absurd!"
As Eloise continued to laugh, Violet looked over at her son, who seemed to have sunk further into his chair. Could other people see the crush Pen had on him, but somehow he couldn't? As he came to realise his feelings, Pen was pushing hers to the side.
"Eloise, why don't you go show the new Whistledown to Francesca and Hyacinth?" Violet asks her second eldest daughter, who shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Once Eloise was gone, Violet took a seat closer to Colin. "Colin, darling."
"She hasn't, hasn't she? She's had feelings for me this whole time?" He asks, looking over at his mother.
"Truthfully, darling. She's loved you for years..." Violet tells him, and Colin nearly slips further into his seat.
An upset noise left Colin when the words left Violet's mouth. "Mama, what do I do?" He nearly whines.
Violet reached over and fiddled with the hair on the top of his head. "Flowers. That's always a good place to start," Colin looked up at her. "Get her roses."
Colin had heard for years between his mother and younger sister Daphne that different flowers and colours mean different things. "Yellow roses? Yellow will-"
"No."
Colin looked over at Violet, surprised she cut him off so suddenly.
"Never give a woman you intend to court, yellow roses. Never. Do you hear me, Colin Bridgerton?" He nodded his head, almost scared of his mother. "Now, they can't be lavender roses, because she's not your first love," Colin looked at his mother confused. "You were engaged to her cousin during her first season."
Colin blinked, remembering the time when he was engaged to Marina. He wished he could wipe that experience off the face of the earth. "What I feel for Penelope, it's a lot stronger than anything I felt for Marina."
Violet looked at her son, he had the same look on his face as Edmund when she was doused in flour at eight years old. Of all of her children, Colin was the most like her late husband, and she could see so much of herself in Penelope as she was once a wallflower and clung to the safety net of the edge of the balls.
"Lavender roses will do nicely then, my darling."

After a visit to the florists, Colin arrived at the Featherington Home, there were already three carriages sitting on the road. Judging by the crests on the side, it was Dankworth, Anderson and Debling. The same three men were seen dancing with Penelope at last night's ball.
Colin muttered a curse and jogged up the steps. Standing by the door was Ludders, Featherington's loyal butler.
"Mr. Bridgerton," Ludders greets.
"I'm here to see Miss Penelope," he says, rolling the bouquet over in his arms.
Ludders blinks. "I will go see with Mrs. Featherington if you will be accepted," he says, allowing Colin in and then he waits at the end of the corridor in front of the door which leads to Featherington's green drawing room.
But the door opened, and he was allowed in, the first face he sought out was Pen's as she sat on the sofa next to her mother, looking at him with scrunched eyebrows and judging eyes. It was obvious it wasn't Pen who allowed him in.
"Mr. Bridgerton, we weren't expecting you," Portia Featherington says, sitting up straight as if she had a wooden ruler stuck down the back of her dress. "Would you like to take a seat next to Lord Debling?"
It should be noted that sat on the other side of his Pen was Prudence, the only other unmarried Featherington lady.
"Thank you for seeing us on such short notice," said Lord Debling, who stared Colin down out of the corner of his eye. That's when Colin remembered Lord Debling, from the night of the Featherington ball, when he was so drunk out of his mind he couldn't tell his left from his right.
"It's my pleasure, Lord Debling," Portia smiled, not taking notice of Colin. It had been well-known that Portia wanted to marry one of her daughters off to one of the Bridgerton sons.
Colin didn't pay attention to anything Portia was saying, as he just kept looking at Penelope, wondering what was going through her head. The sun was shining off her hair, and sometimes in her eyes when it came out from behind a cloud, which would cause her to squint for a moment.
"Penelope, would you stop squinting!" Portia very nearly demanded of her daughter.
"The sun is in my eyes, mama," Penelope said, raising her hand to give her eyes some shade. The sun made the freckles appear like stars on her arms and cheeks.
"Who are your flowers for, Bridgerton?" Asked Anderson, who stared down the sofa at Colin.
For a second, Colin forgot he was holding the lavender roses. He could see Portia motion to Prudence for her to sit up straighter.
But, Colin handed the bouquet over to Penelope, who stares up at him, very surprised.
Lifting her hand to take them, she gave him a small smile which made his heart flutter. "Thank you, Mr. Bridgerton," and his heart stopped fluttering.
He got used to her calling him both Colin, and Col on the rare occasion, but it wasn't often she called him Mr. Bridgerton. He didn't like it.

Actually, wait I want to talk more about the matches the Featherington sisters managed to make for themselves.
So there's a quote I heard a while back that you want your kids to do better for themselves than what you did. Portia while she probably did well for herself socially by what we can infer with marrying up by marrying a baron we also know she was never happy in her marriage. Nor from what we have been shown has she ever really known romantic love. The most love we have seen from Portia is a maternal type of love towards her daughters but even that we have been shown is jaded more than likely due to her experiences from society. We also know she places survival above any emotion, of her daughters, herself, and in a weird way the barony too. Every time we hear her talking about marriage we rarely, if at all, hear her bring up love.
I think Portia succeeded in a way with her daughters ending up better than she did in their marriages. The men her daughters married were not the ideal type she would have ever imagined for them or hoped, but they are also all men her daughters needed to make their lives better. Her daughters are secured like Portia wanted, but they're also happy, and we know at least two are in love. (I'm withholding on prudank until I see them some more) Emotionally they're in a better place than Portia was during her marriage.
In season 1 Daphne said that the first sister married sets the tone for the other sisters and I think we can hold that true for the Featherington sisters.
Philippa was the first one married when she married Mr. Albion Finch. A man who wasn't quite the catch socially even though he is part of the ton but also a man who adores his wife and loves her. We see this trend continue with her sisters.
We should have known that Prudence wouldn't see the altar with Jack Featheringotn, outside of that weird thing he tried with Portia, Jack Featherington did not fit the Feathrington groom mold. Mr. Harry Dankworth, a man who looks like pure sunshine and just happy to be there will definitely be a better match for Prudence. Feel like he can soften her more jaded edges.
Then of course we got Mr. Colin Bridgeton, who we have seen without even having or realizing his romantic interests in Penelope craves her attention, and wants to be like the man she believes him to be. They both are going to push each other to be better versions of themselves and learn to love all parts of one another.
The Featherington sisters' road to marriage isn't quite as grandly dramatic as the Bridgertons. Penelope's being an exception but she's marrying a Bridgerton so there's no escaping that fate. But all their marriages are sweet, happy, and loving, something I feel like each one of them needed.

Let me be delulu for a moment and pretend this is confirmation for foodie Dankworth. I've been wanting to know what his special food related interest was for forever. He's gotta balance out his other foodie brother in-laws.

oooh Gothic Featherington AU: Sword Mistress Prudence throwing a blade at Harry and he immediately catches it and his whole face LIGHTS UP as she shouts “el garde!” and swiftly started to fence her.
And he’s having a GRAND time and she realizes, so was she, and she knew he was a keeper .
YESSS!
I like to think Harry wasn't even visiting he was just passing by the house and Prudence was bored.
Prudence bored out of her mind sees a gentleman she has yet to duel, and now she has too! She opens up the window to the room she's in, yells, "El garde!" as she throws the blade and herself out the window.
Harry catches the blade confused, but thankfully, he has fenced often enough that it's basically instinct as he faces off against Prudence. The two are laughing and having a delightful time.
The duel ends in a tie and Prucence is so excited she may have found her forever dueling partner.
Meanwhile the other Featherington girls are watching the two duel all over the yard from the same window their oldest sister threw herself from. They're taking bets on when this new gentleman becomes their brother in-law.

Just realised, all the Featherington girls seem to be moving to green. Which Book!Portia said was a melancholic colour. She must have changed her tune with three married girls in green. Though Show!Portia did wear some hints of it... random babble in my head. I kinda hope to see how Prudence ended up Mrs Dankworth. Off-season romance maybe?
Maybe Portia has a different mindset on the color pallet for married women after all they don't need to be happy all the time like a debutant does. That or because they're married now they get more freedoms.
But I can see Prudence and Harry being an off season courtship/romance. After all, the previous season ended with Prudence jilted by a fiance who, in the ton's eyes, already tried to take liberties with her. Off-season courtship away from the ton might be the only way Prudence was getting married.

Pairings: Colin Bridgerton + Penelope Featherington
Summary: Colin realises his feelings.

There's somethin' 'bout the way, the street looks when it's just rained. There's a glow off the pavement, you walk me to the car. And you know I wanna ask you to dance right there, in the middle of the parking lot, yeah!
Colin watched as Penelope walked away, after turning him down for a dance as she was soon taken out onto the dancefloor by Dankworth.
Colin could feel himself bristling at the scene before him. What does Dankworth have that he doesn't?
Why is he thinking like this? This was the whole point of his deal with Penelope! She wanted to get married this season, he has offered his help (he knows she is being courted by Dankworth, Anderson and Lord Debling - he knew who Pen's mother would be pushing her towards (Lord Debling who has a title and a lot of money, a chance to pay off the gambling debts her departed husband had made).
He knew Penelope had once had a crush on him, three years ago, he believed she got over it quickly.
But, now he could see her shining in Lady Danbury's ballroom, in a ballgown given to her by his mother (her way of apologising for his terrible words at the end of last season).
As Dankworth spun her around, her auburn curls fluttered around her head with a growing smile on her face.
Did she have feelings for Dankworth? His love for Penelope had hit him in the face like an escaped horse.
He loves Penelope Featherington. He adores her. He would forever worship the ground she walks on for the rest of his life. Even if she married someone else.

Run your hands through your hair, absentmindedly makin' me want you! And I don't know how it gets better than this, you take my hand and drag me head first, fearless. And I don't know why but with you, I'd dance, in a storm in my best dress, fearless!
Two weeks later, Colin and Penelope found themselves hiding from the heavy downpour of rain beneath a gazebo.
"I hope the rain will ease soon, mama believes Mr Dankworth will be proposing this week," Penelope says, as casually as you can announce an intending proposal.
Colin couldn't hide his feelings anymore. "Pen, please, don't marry him," he nearly begs her, taking hold of her hand.
Penelope looks at Colin with a singular raised eyebrow. "Colin this was our aim for my third season. After your callous words last season, I finally have the chance to marry!"
"What if you married me?"
Penelope looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "You don't want to marry me, let alone court me. Which, by the way, I never asked you to court me."
"Is it such a crime, that I may have changed my mind?" Colin asked, crossing his arms.
"You have changed your mind so often over the past few years, it's surprising you haven't damaged your neck," Penelope comments, looking out through the rain, and wondering whether the head cold is worth running through the rain to get away from Colin Bridgerton's bizarre question.
Just as Penelope was about to make a break for it out into the rain, Colin took hold of her elbow. "Pen, what if I told you I love you?"
Penelope looked at Colin with wide eyes the size of the Bridgerton's dinner plates. "No. No, you don't."
He looked at her confused. "Yes, I do, Pen. I know it seems to be coming from nowhere, but I didn't know how much I love you until it hit me in the face."
"If you love me as much as you think you do, you believed yourself in love with my cousin two seasons ago!" Penelope exclaimed. "You don't love me, you just believe yourself in love - much like you did with Marina."
He started shaking his head. "No, Pen. Pen, please, look at me. Listen to me," he gently cups her face, making sure she is looking into his eyes. "The feelings I had for her, and the feelings I have for you, are completely different. What I felt for Lady Crane was passing, fleeting. The feelings I have for you consume me, Pen. I cannot imagine my life without you. I don't want to imagine my life without you."
She looked up at him surprised, maybe Colin did love her...
Tumblr media
Well, you stood there with me in the doorway, my hands shake, I'm not usually this way but. You pull me in and I'm a little more brave, it's the first kiss, it's flawless, really somethin', it's fearless.
The following morning, Colin turned up as one of the first callers for Penelope Featherington, with a bouquet including pink lilies ( love and adoration ), baby's breath ( purity of heart ) and red carnations ( deep romantic love ).
"Lady Featherington, Mr. Colin Bridgerton is here for-," Mrs Varley says, but is cut off by the Featherington matriarch.
"Let him in, Mrs Varley!" Portia sat herself higher in her seat, motioning for Prudence to come closer and sit beside her.
Colin Bridgerton comes in clutching the flowers like they are his current lifeline. "Good morning, Lady Featherington," Colin greets, expecting to see Penelope sitting on one of the sofas, but is greeted by Penelope's older sister Prudence. "Good morning, Miss Featherington."
He looked over at Penelope's usual spot, seeing her looking over the book she was currently reading, she watched him with big eyes, as they spoke without words what on earth was going on?
He took a cautious seat on the available sofa, watching as Portia motioned at her middle daughter to sit herself up higher.
"What can we do for you this morning, Mr Bridgerton?" Portia asked, holding her hands in her lap, looking at Colin with a stern look on her face.
Just before he could speak, Mrs Varley came back into the drawing room. "I'm sorry to interrupt, my Lady, but Mr Dankworth is here."
At the mention of Dankworth's name, Prudence seemed to perk up a lot more, looking over at her mama, waiting for her to allow Dankworth into the drawing room.
"Let him in as well, Varley. Penelope, it seems you have a caller," Colin hated it when Portia looked down at her youngest daughter - as Penelope set her book down and took the open seat next to her sister (leaving as much room away from the rest of her family as possible).
"Good morning, Mr Dankworth. There is an open seat next to Mr Bridgerton," Portia motioned to the sofa opposite. Harry Dankworth seemed to be eyeing Colin up and down (which Colin did in return), at the moment they didn't deem the other a threat at the moment.
Dankworth also had a bouquet in his hand, however, Dankworth couldn't take his eyes off Prudence whereas Colin couldn't take his eyes off Penelope.
"Who have you come to call on, Dankworth?" Colin asked, looking over at his possible rival for Penelope's hand.
"Prudence," Dankworth stated, watching as the middle Featherington daughter's face lit up.
Portia seemed to preen. "Both of you are calling on Prudence," Portia seemed to gasp, causing Colin's face to form a questioning look as Dankworth looked over at Colin with a hint of fury in his eyes.
"You're calling on Prudence Featherington?"
"No. I'm here calling on Penelope."
Portia looked over at Colin, confused. "Why would you be calling on Penelope?"
Colin held his tongue on the comment he wanted to say. "Because I love her," he watched as Portia rolled her eyes at his four words. "I love Penelope Featherington, and I would like your permission for her hand in marriage."
Portia looked at Colin in surprise. "Penelope? You want to marry Penelope?"
Colin nodded, getting up from his spot and handed the flowers over to Penelope. He got down on one knee in front of her. "Penelope, will you marry me?"
"Yes."
