I am still searching, but here are some leads I am following. They are proclivities I have hashed together:

1) Object lessons, and the knowledge that is contained in objects. The examples I have chosen come from museums, or exhibits. But perhaps they don't have to. How does the materiality of the object impact these lessons? There are digital reproductions that become objects. And then we access the objects through images.

2) How those objects are made. Making, and physical traces of the hand. In architecture, the first maxim you learn in school is that architects don't build, they draw. Making can reveal traces. In 2017, I visited the Mori Ogai Museum, in Tokyo. There was a set of stairs leading to the basement with a wooden handrail on one side, and a metal one on the other. I think about that difference all the time.

3) Mundanity, and how surreal it can be. I'm thinking Jacques Tati, in Playtime, or Chris Steele-Perkins' fly on the wall photograph.

4) Spaces of making. How are those spaces are documented.

5) It's important to me that I find a narrative I can follow. Traces of historical memory in objects and spaces. "The Parthenon of Books", or "Monument for the Living"

Feeling a distinct "please clap" emotion after doing over 100 pages of reading today along with helping Scribe complete a thick packet of surprise disability paperwork, attending class earlier this morning, and renewing various prescriptions, all on maybe 4 or 5 hours of actual sleep and while only partially medicated.

(Also we still don't have a kitchen, but that's an ongoing crisis)

Trying to figure out the difference between "this feeling of general apathy about work will pass" and "this feeling of general apathy about work won't pass"

#it's like. i'm not FEELING when I think about my field #i'm not FEELING when I teach -- even though I'm still fighting for my undergrads as best as possible #I don't feel anything about the conferences over the horizon for me...or the papers that I have to write for them #i haven't even booked my plane tickets and accommodations...partially because that'd mean they're real #i have a deadline coming up for an article I was excited to publish -- I barely want to touch it #and it's like...I *know* I love my field #...so why don't I *now*?#i don't want to work on my prospectus...even though I've wanted nothing else for three years #...is it just TOO MUCH at once or too little stimulation without classwork #or am i just. tired.#and has this been the natural conclusion of the last three years
