oh btw absolutely get the princess tutu 2022 steelbook blu ray set if you’re a fan and you can afford it bc MY GOD the english dub bloopers had me rolling. i’m not sure if they upped the rating for it, but they said bitch about 20 times. hearing that from duck was. something 😂 also the va’s knew exactly how gay their characters are
sidenote it’s my first time watching the dub and i SWEAR in raetsel’s episode they accidentally left in a blooper when fakir decides to write her a story. he sets pen to paper and says, “i know, i’ll write a letter to the president!” ahajsksjjkk what .

Following up on this post about bargain shoujo/josei (and sapphic magical hijinks) titles from Sentai, the items I ordered have arrived and aside from the damage to the Princess Tutu blu-ray spine (seen above) I'm pretty happy.
As with all standard Sentai releases these are barebones blu-rays with little more to offer than the series and some clean OPs/EDs. Princess Tutu is the exception as it has had several previous quality releases and features more on-disc goodies like commentaries, outtakes, and some ballet-focused features.
(Though full disclosure, I only got the standard version of Tutu. Sentai does have a far more elaborate steelbook release for the title that die-hard fans may prefer over this normie set. I like the series but I'm not that keen so I settled for this version.)
Petshop of Horrors is an old title and thus only SD, so what we have in this release is about what I was expecting. Flip Flappers! is pretty disappointing though as the individual Japanese blu-rays featured gorgeous illustrations for the packaging (by tanu and Kojima Takashi both), commentaries on disc, and deluxe settei booklets. I understand not being able to bring over some of this more elaborate content for what is obviously a minimalist release, but the use of one of the promo anime images for the cover over some of the lovely OG art is a shame.
Similarly Anonymous Noise had really plush individual disc releases for its anime adaptation featuring Fukuyama's distinctive art on each cover. US releases don't tend to worry about goodies for all but the biggest anime titles these days, so a stripped back release was about all anyone could expect for a niche Hana to Yume title adaptation. But I feel it's a tad disappointing that, like with Flip Flappers!, the generic promo image for the series on a thin wisp of paper is all you really get in terms of packaging.
In saying that though, the actual episode content for all releases is solid. The actual transfer of newer titles like Flip Flappers! and Anonymous Noise = good and the Princess Tutu remaster looks lovely. Petshop of Horrors is the lowest quality video of the bunch but for $4 USD I've been more than satisfied watching Count D fuck with dumbasses in SD.
Ultimately none of these releases feels as considered as the titles I've purchased from Discotek Media recently, they just don't have that boutique, fan-focused touch. However, I do still think they are worth owning if you are interested in the series mentioned.
Physical media is something I feel very strongly about so I'm obviously biased about buying things when you're in a position to do so, but given the way streaming has stripped back our ability to possess modern titles, rewatch them, and even preserve them, I'm always thankful when I can grab a physical bargain for my collection.

I find it hard to watch TV these days (except for the occassional news). Like I don't know if it's because of sitting down to watch a show but it's become hard to get me to watch programs.
I don't like where streaming is headed that it will add advertisements that I just feel like I should buy my favorite anime. I don't think I will buy Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V but I have been thinking of buying Princess Tutu. I do have some blu-ray movies I could watch and I'm still missing to buy "How to train your Dragon 3".
Watching TV is hard. A part of me is impressed with my past self for watching a lot of anime/cartoons and playing games.

Don’t worry, Lugia, Billy, & Kim will return, but I wanted to mix it up for a bit with my new Mew plush sitting on my Beckett jacket because they’re both associated with genetics! … Listen, it’s the simple things that amuse me sometimes.
Edit: Hang on, it’s acting up on me. Hmm. :/
Edit 2: I figured it out! \o/
Speaking of Pokémon, yes I’ve heard the good news although I am concerned/curious what will be next. Right now I’m still really enjoying Sun & Moon Ultra Legends. Although the Adventures in the Orange Islands are coming up soon- probably less than a year at this rate!
I’m also increasingly curious/hopeful about if Pokémon Masters will have PLA sync pairs after the game’s first anniversary. I mean, if nothing else, it’ll give the app new content while waiting to do Paldea sync pairs. And yes, there’s likely to be Scarlet commentary from me once I have it.
I’ve been playing Dreamlight Valley; I’ve been enjoying it but I haven’t had a lot to say about it. No Milo nor Kida yet. Although to be fair, Belle & Stitch haven’t arrived despite being on the original loading screen. And only Gothel and Scar represent their movies. I don’t even know??
I haven’t yet re-watched SGA’s first mid-season two-parter, but you all will know when I have done so. >:)
XWP’s 3rd season has been a bit of a mixed bag for me so far but I’m still watching & reviewing for my blog. … I still need to resume ALOK’s first season. At this rate I’ll have to start over like I know I’ll have to with Princess Tutu. Though there at least I’ll be able to get screencaps on my second watch now that I have my Blu-Ray disc drive. I’m still figuring how to review Sailor Moon.
Sooner rather than later I’ll be doing my Power Rangers mini-watch. I won’t lie, it’ll be interesting to basically zoom through the first seventeen seasons. Lots of revisiting my favorites! 2023 is going to be the year of Power Rangers & DS9 on this blog. >:D
Speaking of anime, I really liked the first 2 volumes of the Spy x Family manga so hopefully I’ll be able to obtain the anime sometime.
My DS9 watch isn’t especially coherent; on a first watch I’m on the second season but clearly I’ve been going back to rewatch & get screencaps because I want to be just watching on the first time. The important thing is that I’m having a lot of fun! :)
… Although I will say that it’s weirdly impressive how accurate Julian’s hasty backstory will be. Him taking an acute interest/concern about whether or not Rugal’s adoptive parents mistreat him due to who he is. That’s not just Julian being compassionate and/or getting caught up in Garak’s riptide, it’s him projecting due to his own childhood, isn’t it? Same with him calling out Melora’s coping mechanism because he’s aware he’s on the other side of the coin in how they react to people due to a fear of rejection because of who they are.
Meanwhile, Rom hasn’t gotten his development yet, but I have come up with a somewhat depressing Watsonian theory on what was going on in “Babel”. It’s not that Rom couldn’t do the repair, it’s that if he had, Quark would have griped about how long it took him to do so. The idea that Odo caught Quark out because he oversimplified the lie is amusing one. The depressing part is why Rom didn’t actually do so.
I think it’s similar to what went on with Daja and her birth family before the events of the Circle of Magic quartet, where doing manual work was looked down on in Trader culture to the point Daja was scolded/punished for her curiosity about it. To lean into my foreknowledge, Quark hasn’t drunk the root beer enough to encourage his brother’s interest in mechanics, even if it appears to be necessary to do so for profit.
Admittedly the animated Justice League has gone up in my media backlog list after learning about Conroy’s passing. … Not quite literally yet, but odds are I’ll redo the list for real closer to the end of 2022. That’ll probably be the next ramble post.

Shin Watches Princess Tutu
Episodes 10-13
This was the second disc on the Blu-ray collection and mostly consists of special features (which I will watch later!), so I finished it all in one day
Episode 11
- It's called Cinderella but I didn't actually expect Duck to drop the pendant - Fakir episode most likely, can't wait to see - how did a Crocodile get to Germany?
- Fakir character development is great, little confused but I know the story will make it clear (He's not from the story but still has some kind of connection with it? Reincarnation is very possible) - Another instance of Princess Kraeha acting high and mighty but being diffused by her own emotions towards Mytho which is interesting -Oh shit Fakir knows
-The scene of the “wedding” with the crow headed people dancing was really good
- Duck being an emotional support duck (The scene of Fakir hugging her duck form) was sweet
Episode 11
- Love the plot point of a fucked up necklace being given to Princess Tutu, perfectly nails the fairy tale of anxiety of something you *know* that's gonna happen - Drosselmeyer's Commentary spelling it out for the audience is a little much but I appreciate it - Shit hit the fan there lmao - Fakir being in the story more actively is very welcomed, like him being a knight who fears death - Did NOT expect things to get that dark this quickly
Episode 12
- Good build up episode
- Fakir just blushing and briefly losing his shit at realizing the duck he was nice to and hugged on one occasion was Duck is fucking great - Like the elaboration of exactly what goes on in The Prince and the Raven ( Princess Tutu is only in there for a few sentences? Maybe there was more before it stopped being written ) - The Duck/Fakir relationship growing is good  - Oh fuck me the next episode is called Swan Lake lmao
Episode 13
- Really liked the stakes of "Speak your love" but they subverted it by having her dance instead - Fakir having a very cool moment that I appreciate - Princess Tutu doing a Pata De Deux by herself was a power move - Edel's dead? Damn that sucks - Love how the final scene of the first season is Princess Tutu finally dancing with Mytho

I went to buy the Princess Tutu Blu-ray box set yesterday and was super lucky cause it was the last one at the store! Here are some pictures of the content (sorry for the quality and lighting) The middle two pictures come from the white book which has a lot of other information, like character bios and interviews but I haven't gotten a good look at it yet. The other pictures come from the purple book, which contains the full script as well as these notes from the voice actors and other people who worked on the show. Love this show and I'm so happy it's getting this attention :)

Is it just me, or is Princess Tutu just incredibly undermerchandised? Not just now (though, like Ojamajo Doremi is still getting new merch! Wedding Peach got a new visual novel spin-off! So, now would also make sense), but also at the time? I can find the same set of four figures around, and I guess there were a couple art books? Was there anything else?
Am I just bad at searching? Were there ever, like, official Duck-as-a-duck plushes? The necklace she wore as kids jewelry? Egg capsules toys?
It just seems weird. The fandom is still incredibly active. There's new fanart constantly. I still read brand new meta for it. People still write fics and doujin. There's a fanmade sequel being released on youtube.
But officially? Nothing. Not even, like, a cash-grab makeup pallet or something.
Is there a licensing issue? The only place to stream it in the US is on Amazon Prime, and it's a terrible quality rip, and only the dub. But there is a lovely blu ray release, so someone has some rights to the show itself at least.
Why don't they want to sell me a t-shirt. I would like to buy one. I can buy a million fanmade ones. Why no official ones. What happened.
