Sweden: The Sweden/ The Netherlands State Visit Day 1
On October 11, 2022, the Sweden State Visit from the Netherlands commenced. Following the welcoming of the King and Queen of the Netherlands, the Swedish Royal House joined the Dutch Royals for a Gala Dinner. This was hosted in the Royal Palace, in Karl XI’s Gallery along with the ballroom located in the Palace. Those in attendance included members of the Swedish Royal House (King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Silvia of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Prince Daniel of Sweden, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Princess Sofia of Sweden, Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson and Mr. Tord Magnuson) and the King and Queen of the Netherlands (King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands). It should also be noted that the Dutch Delegations, Representatives of Sweden, and Swedes with a special connection to the Netherlands were also in attendance.

“I'm tired of TV series and films about Princess Diana or Empress Elisabeth of Austria, I know they've played their part in history. But it would be nice to make some film productions about women who have had an impact on the history of monarchies, for example Queen Leonor of Aquitaine, Queen Christina of Sweden or other notable royal women.” - Submitted by cenacevedo15

Royal Tiara Challenge 2024: Favourite Swedish Tiara
Tumblr media
Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara
A favourite of many, this tiara looks fabulous on anyone who wears it. Originally owned by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden, it now belongs to her granddaughter, Princess Margaretha. Luckily for us, the Swedes are fond of sharing with Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Princess Christina as regular wearers. It was last worn in January for the State Visit from France by Princess Christina.

Happy 46th birthday to Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Duchess of Västergötland!
Born on 14 July 1977, Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée is the heir apparent to the Swedish throne, as the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. If she ascends to the throne, she would be Sweden's fourth queen regnant (after Margaret, Christina and Ulrika Eleonora) and the first since 1720. Her inheritance is secured by Sweden's 1979 Act of Succession, the first law in Western Europe to adopt royal absolute primogeniture.
She was baptised at the Royal Palace Church on 27 September 1977. Her godparents included Crown Prince Harald of Norway (later king of Norway), and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands (later queen of the Netherlands, 1980–2013).
Victoria was made crown princess on 1 January 1980 by the 1979 amendment to the Act of Succession of 1810 (Successionsordningen). This constitutional amendment introduced absolute primogeniture, meaning that the throne would be inherited by the monarch's eldest child regardless of gender. Prior to this constitutional change, the heir apparent to the throne was her younger brother, Carl Philip. He is now fourth in line to the throne, behind Victoria and her children.
On 24 February 2009, it was confirmed that permission had been granted and that Victoria would marry Daniel Westling in the summer of 2010. The wedding date was set in Stockholm Cathedral for 19 June 2010, the 34th anniversary of her parents' marriage. The couple have two children: Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary, Duchess of Östergötland (11) and Prince Oscar Carl Olof, Duke of Skåne (7)
Often referred to as the "Godmother of Europe", Crown Princess Victoria is the godmother of eighteen children including: Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece and Denmark; Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange; Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway; Prince Christian of Denmark; Princess Eléonore of Belgium; Princess Katharina of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland; and Prince Alexander, Duke of Södermanland.
Victoria has dyslexia, as do her father King Carl XVI Gustaf and her brother Prince Carl Philip, and prosopagnosia.

Day 13 - Favorite Amethyst Tiara
The Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara
Hands down, the Swedish Napoleonic amethyst tiara is the most beautiful amethyst tiara in my opinion.
The family that currently sits on the Swedish throne has genealogical ties to Swedish kings from centuries ago, but they’re more immediately descended from French nobility. Because of this, the family’s jewel coffers are full of trinkets with connections to the French imperial court of Napoleon Bonaparte. The [tiara] from the family’s amethyst parure, is just such a piece.
The tiara actually didn’t start out as a tiara at all; in fact, it’s only been a tiara for a few decades. Instead, the piece was original a necklace made of diamonds surrounding fifteen large amethysts. The demi-parure also included drop earrings, two bracelets, and a devant de corsage. The dark purple amethysts are set in gold, while the diamonds are set in silver. Princess Christina wearing the tiara in its original state as a necklace in 1968:

The original owner of the jewels is said to have been Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. Lots of royal jewels are said to have belonged to the empress, but this suite apparently actually did. Joséphine gave the amethyst parure to her daughter-in-law, Princess Augusta of Bavaria, who had married Eugène de Beauharnais in 1806. (Augusta’s father, King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, later made the couple the Duke and Duchess of Leuchtenberg.) In turn, Augusta passed the suite along to her own daughter, Joséphine of Leuchtenberg, when she married the future King Oscar I of Sweden and Norway in 1823. - the court jeweller.com
