#prearranged pamphlet

From the pictures, Arras appears to be a charming city. However, Valjean is greeted by unwelcoming dark streets where he soon finds himself lost. What a clever move from the old man – to prearrange his swift retreat and have everything ready for departure at night.
Did you notice how crowded the courthouse was in the late evening? In French courts, public admission to hearings was a relatively new trend. Under the ancien régime, courts were closed to the public, and in the eighteenth century, you could only learn about what was happening through specific pamphlets, which were extremely popular. After the Revolution, courts were open and became quite an entertainment for the audience. In the case of the Arras court on the night of Valjean’s arrival, they seem to have a cause célèbre – a woman accused of committing infanticide. It’s so somber.
I love Valjean speaking “in an authoritative manner.” It’s a pity it won’t last.

hi, for your freaky fics event, could i please get corn maze and found footage with luke hemmings? thank you! i can't wait to read all of these!
By My Side
Tumblr media
Luke x Reader - 597 Words - More Freaky Fics
Notes: I used time stamps ( hour:minute:second) measuring the duration of the corn maze adventure to section the different found footage sections! I hope you like it.
Warnings: I think like one swear word 😂 maybe two 😂
- - -
0:00:00
“This should be fun!” You said smiling at Luke as you walked hand in hand towards the corn maze. Outside the entrance was an optional map, and an employee dressed up like a cute scarecrow going over safety instructions.
You grabbed one of the guide pamphlets that listed the safety instructions and what to do if you get lost. You shrugged and decided against the map, you’ve watched kids and teens wander out the other side so it couldn’t be that difficult.
You felt Luke rub anxious circles into the back of your hand and you couldn’t help but tease him, “not scared are you Hemings?”
He tossed a goofy smile your way, “no! I’ve just never done one before is all. It can’t be that hard, it’s just a bunch of corn.”
You nodded enthusiastically before pulling him forward into the maze.
0:05:30
“Wait! Stand right there,” you said fishing your phone out of your pocket. You’d only made a few turns already but the way the sun was illuminating the corn made Luke look ethereal. His face flushed prettily as you shifted around to get the right angle.
“Smile!” You called with a giggle as you snapped the picture. Luke crinkled his nose as you shoved the phone towards him. “See, you look cute!”
He laughed and pulled you into a hug, “I’m still not as cute as you.”
0:15:03
“According to the guide this should take like 15/20 minutes so the exit’s gotta be right around the corner!” You chirped as you rounded another corner into another dead end.
“Goddamn it,” you whispered confronted with another wall of corn.
Luke had to stifle a laugh as your face fell. You kicked a lone corn husk on the ground and pouted until he moved and wrapped you in a hug.
0:28:59
“Fucking hell, I think im gonna lose it,” you said stretching your arms above your head. You were starting to get cold, and you were sick of seeing corn.
Luke sighed watching you pace, “If it helps I was having a lot of fun!"
You shook your head and suddenly wished you grabbed a map at the beginning. You huffed and threw your arms back down at your side as you turned around. Luke was leaning back on his heels, cellphone in his hand.
“Oh my god Luke! Your phone,” you yelled excitedly. Luke looked back at you confused as you bounced on your feet to stay warm.
“We can use the map on your phone, we know which direction the entrance and exists are!”
It took a moment but then you watched realization dawn on Luke’s face. He waved you back to his side to figure out where you were on the digital map.
0:37:45
“See that wasn’t so bad,” you said back to your usual sunshine-self now that you weren’t confined to an endless sea of corn.
Luke was about to say something when an employee burst out in front of you.
“Congrats on completing the maze! Would you like your picture taken for the winner’s wall?”
Their enthusiasm blindsided you and all you could do was shrug in resins as they pushed you towards a prearranged conglomeration of hay bales and fall foliage.
Luke turned to look at you as the employee started to count down for the picture. The now setting sun cast a halo around your face and made his heart skip a beat, and he couldn’t help but kiss your cheek as the timer ran out.

Meditation: Are you missing out on what's most important in life? Being unprepared can lead to unnecessary trouble and even disaster! What good is a life-jacket left on the shore when the boat is sinking? Jesus' story of ten single ladies waiting for a wedding procession in the middle of the night seems strange to most westerners today. But Jesus' audience knew all too well how easily this could happen to them.
Don't miss the most important engagement of all
Wedding customs in ancient Palestine required extra vigilance and preparation for everyone involved. (Some near eastern villages still follow this custom.) The bride and groom did not go away for their honeymoon, but celebrated for a whole week with their family and friends. It was the custom for the groom, in company with his friends, to come at his discretion and get his bride and bring her to their new home. They would take the longest route possible so that many villagers along the way could join in the wedding procession. Once they arrived and closed the doors, no one else could be admitted. If the groom decided to come and bring his bride at night, then lights were required by necessity to guide the travelers through the dark and narrow streets. No one was allowed on the village streets at night without a lamp!
To show up for a wedding party without proper attire and travel arrangements is like trying to get into a special event today that requires a prearranged permit or reservation. You just don't get in without the proper pass. Can you imagine the frustration travelers might experience when going abroad and finding out that they can't get into some country because they don't have the right visa or a valid passport.
The consequences of being unprepared to meet the Lord
Jesus warns us that there are consequences for being unprepared. There are certain things you cannot obtain at the last moment. For example, students cannot prepare for their exams when the day of testing is already upon them. A person cannot get the right kind of character, strength, and skill required for a task at hand unless they already possess it, such as a captain with courage and nautical skills who must steer a ship through a dangerous storm at sea.
When the Lord Jesus comes to lead you to his heavenly banquet will you be ready to hear his voice and follow? Our eternal welfare depends on our hearing, and many have trained themselves to not hear. We will not be prepared to meet the Lord, face to face, when he calls us on the day of judgment, unless we listen to him today. The Lord invites us to feast at his heavenly banquet table. Are you ready?
"Lord Jesus, make me vigilant and attentive to your voice that I may heed your call at all times. May I find joy in your presence and delight in doing your will."

A GROWTH-SPURT
“It is God’s will that you grow in holiness.” —1 Thessalonians 4:3
The Lord told Paul to tell the Thessalonian Christians to grow in holiness (see 1 Thes 4:3) and to please God by their conduct even more than before (1 Thes 4:1). The Lord expects and delights to see His children grow holy in every aspect of their conduct (1 Pt 1:15).
In fact, the Lord probably wants us to have a growth spurt in the last part of this year. Little children and teenagers commonly grow several inches in a short time. Likewise, we who are God’s children can grow in holiness in a greatly accelerated way. The Lord delights to see His children grow quickly to great levels of holiness.
Because we love the Lord, we want to please Him by growing holy as deeply and as quickly as possible. Let us commit ourselves today to obey the Lord in any and every way so as to grow holy. Let us live, suffer, and die for holiness. May holiness be the greatest desire of our hearts because it is the greatest desire of the Lord’s heart.
Prayer:  Father, may I want holiness more than anything else.
Promise:  “Keep your eyes open, for you know not the day or the hour.” —Mt 25:13
Praise:  St. Monica’s husband was ill-tempered and unfaithful.Monica loved him and prayed daily for him. He repented and converted to faith in Jesus a year before he died.

MARANATHA
“The Lord Himself will come down from heaven at the word of command, at the sound of the archangel’s voice and God’s trumpet.” —1 Thessalonians 4:16
Jesus is coming soon. No one knows the day or the hour (Mt 25:13). In that case, the only practical thing is to be always ready and keep our eyes open (Mt 25:13). When Jesus comes again for the final time, “those who have died in Christ will rise first” (1 Thes 4:16). If you live near a cemetery, that will be a sight to behold! “Then we, the living, the survivors, will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thenceforth we shall be with the Lord unceasingly” (1 Thes 4:17). Even though this awesome event is in the future, right now we can “console one another with this message” (1 Thes 4:18).
For those mourning, the Good News of Jesus’ coming and our bodies’ resurrection will keep them from yielding “to grief, like those who have no hope” (1 Thes 4:13). Knowing He is coming will keep us working for His kingdom, dispensing the ration of grain in due time (Lk 12:42). Because of Jesus’ “appearing and His kingly power,” we will stay with the “task whether convenient or inconvenient” (2 Tm 4:1-2). We will “not absent ourselves from the assembly, as some do, but encourage one another; and this all the more because you see that the Day draws near” (Heb 10:25). Jesus’ future coming transforms the present by motivating us to love Him and live for Him to the full.
Prayer:  Jesus, may I hasten the day of Your coming by repentance, intercession, and evangelization (2 Pt 3:12).
Promise:  “Resplendent and unfailing is Wisdom, and she is readily perceived by those who love her.” —Wis 6:12
Praise:  “For a sun and a shield is the Lord God; grace and glory He bestows; The Lord withholds no good thing from those who walk in sincerity” (Ps 84:12). Praise the risen Jesus!

THE LIGHT FROM THE CROSS
“The message of the cross is complete absurdity to those who are headed for ruin, but to us who are experiencing salvation it is the power of God.” —1 Corinthians 1:18
The five foolish bridesmaids in today’s Gospel reading thought they were ready for the bridegroom’s coming, but were wrong (Mt 25:12). We too may be deceiving ourselves about our readiness for Christ’s final coming, our readiness for death, and the depth of our relationship with the Lord.
Our reaction to the message of the cross can be a window into our souls. For example, when we are faced with the cross of forgiving and loving our enemies, do we embrace forgiveness as the only way to reconciliation and a privileged opportunity to imitate the crucified Christ? Or do we see the cross of forgiveness as impractical and not applicable to our particular situation? Also, do we eagerly ask the Lord for His permission to take up the cross of more penance and fasting? Or do we do what comes naturally, that is, maximize our pleasure and minimize our crosses? What are our reactions to the crosses of repentance, evangelization, apologizing, and persecution? If we glory in the cross, it is a good sign that we are living our Baptisms and on the way to heavenly glory (see Lk 9:23). However, if we avoid the cross, are we living according to the mind and heart of Christ?
As we fix our eyes on the cross of Christ, He will reveal to us not only His love but the state of our souls. Glory in the cross of Jesus (see Gal 6:14).
Prayer:  Father, may the light from the cross penetrate my heart.
Promise:  “The moral is: keep your eyes open, for you know not the day or the hour.” —Mt 25:13
Praise:  St. Augustine was undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest intellects. As a theologian and philosopher he is outstanding among the Fathers of the Church — a pillar among giants.

COULD YOU BE MORE READY?
"The reign of God can be likened to ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to welcome the groom." —Matthew 25:1
The five foolish virgins may not have been any more foolish than most people. They had enough oil in their torches if the bridegroom came at the time expected. Even the wise virgins thought that if the groom came very late, the foolish virgins might have time to go and buy some more oil (Mt 25:9). Furthermore, the foolish virgins presumed the bridegroom would let them in late if they did not get back in time (Mt 25:11).
The five foolish virgins made three tragically erroneous assumptions. The first was that they thought they were sufficiently ready. Do you think you are ready enough for Christ's final coming or your death? If you could be more ready, should you be more ready? The second was that the five foolish virgins thought they could get ready at the last minute. This will not be possible at Jesus' coming or in the case of our sudden death. The last was that they thought the bridegroom might say to them: "Better late than never." In fact, he said: "If you're late, then never will you enter." Some people think no one goes to hell. If they are wrong, they will in the end be very wrong and much too late to change.
Are you as ready as you can be? Are you ready for Jesus' return, your death, and abundant life today? Are you wise enough?
Prayer: Father, I want to be as ready as possible. Promise: "Whoever rejects these instructions rejects, not man, but God Who sends His Holy Spirit upon you." —1 Thes 4:8 Praise: Frequent and soul-searching Confession prepares Thomas for whatever may come.   (Are you divorced or separated?
