Week 45 - 21/11/22

During this week at my Barbour placement, I followed up on admin stuff in regards to last weeks launch. As SS24 had been neglected by the team as we were preparing for the launch week, I began the week by naming the styles which previously hadn’t been, using the SS24 style naming document I had created at the start of the season.

At the end of launch week, our product development manager had typed up all the sales notes for the product which they were shown, which then were put into work for any changes which sales felt was necessary to get the best sale of the product. Due to the stage of development of the season, these changes are never dramatically changing the garment more just changes in trims or sometimes colourways, such as the Floral lining being dropped in Country and updated to the new Gardenia Check lining.

As well as this, we began to get fabric standards in for SS24 PRE and MAIN. These were looked at by design and signed off by the fabric team, I then filed these away in their respective place for future reference. We also had lab dyes for new colourways being put into work, these are looked at by the designers and fabric team to see if they match the pantone/swatch on the colourboard as well as seeing if the designers actually might prefer the colour outcome of these dyes instead of what they had previously selected. This is carried out on all of the fabrics which the designer wishes to use in the range.

Another thing which we needed to do for SS24 is update the Must Have styles. The styles which needed to be amended were the classic Barbour styles such as the Annadale Quilt or the Liddesdale Quilt, these styles were updated to have new colourways relevant to this season, with the previous seasons colourways being dropped. Usually, these styles take the colourways of Country and Coast to Country as they are more traditional Barbour ranges, with this season it being Bayleaf for Country and Calico and Hessian for Coast to Country - using these ranges for colour reference really ties in Barbour’s colour stories.

Finally, I began to set up the Pinterest boards for AW24 as we are going into AW22 incase anyone in the team sees any inspirational design ideas they want to explore.

this week, we had to do some prep work before we start filming for AW22.

this would be tidying the showroom, styling the outfits, getting all outfits on different rails for the models etc.

I had to go to the place where we store the Achieve coats to find a few coats the designers could take inspiration from for collabs work to make it more “Barbour”

i started doing some prep work for the creating of both AW22 pre and main GSMM (global sales marketing meeting) this is where i have to make a pack with all photoshoot images and overviews of every spec for the sales team to view an overview of the collections.

I had to set up a board with the country floral print i created for AW22 with the pantones and scale of the print on the page, clothing asked me to do a page with the same print but with a different background colour for dresses and tops etc.

The product development manager gave me the task of adding the accepted numbers to the SS22 pre range directories

I had to help the new starter with a few things like illustrator trims and pantones and plm.

The product manager asked me to add some numbers to look-books for aw21 as she didn't finish them.

my line manager was poorly this week so was working from home, i had to send her an overview of the ranges for AW22 so she could look through all specs and send them to the sales team.

The embroidery artwork i was completing was accepted and was ready to be sent out with the other 2 prints i created for country-wear for fabrication.

i had to confirm some colours for the childrens prints and outerwear.

My line manager gave me a project of creating a pack of the latest catwalk trends that had been influenced by the Barbour heritage or similar to it, Celine did a collection that looked exactly like the Barbour achieve. i looked on sites like vogue catwalk for any 2022 collections, she asked me to create a pinterest board for the images called Archieve trends as its easier for designers to see the trends.

i was sent an invitation to attend a student induction webinar as when i started in January we didn't have a proper one so we did one with the new placement starters!

My line manager asked me to go through every spec and range for AW22 and check for any mistakes or changes, i had to change a few of the hard-wear colours and thumbnails.

This week i haven’t had very much todo!

The main thing i’ve been creating/ finishing is the girls AW22 mood, print and colour boards to show the designers/ managers the kids collection.

I had some feedback from my line manager to update and match the kids print colours according to the pantones she picked out of the pantone book!

The last thing I did, I had to update the range directories and lookbooks with more updated more numbers for both SS22 pre and main but this time digitally and not on paper.

This week was a massive tidy up! due to being done with AW21 and SS22,The cages and design room at Barbour were at the point of bursting when it comes to samples so on Wed 26th & Thursday 27th May we did a big clear out.

on the Wednesday, we boxed up all the protos in the design room so it would be SS22 and boxed them up to store into the cage.

Rails were ordered to come over to the building and hangers and boxes were also ordered to help move everything.

Summer and Winter seasons are kept in the cage as these will be needed in the showrooms. SS21 Protos or any other samples (most were in boxes) put on rails ready to be moved out the building, AW21 protos to be boxed ready to be put in cage next season , AW20 sealing samples were cleared.

in the Little Cage: Tech Boxed up AW21 & SS22 PRE Brand lab/Studio samples

updated some signs on the units in the design room as they said AW21 and SS22 instead of AW22 , I removed any mannequins and shoe boxes that were broken or empty. There were 4 mannequins left after getting rid of the broken ones, 2 to keep in the design room and the other 2 have been claimed already.

The designer that works with Alexa Chung asked me to print out a few copies of the range plan to go through the range with Alexa herself.

i had to change all Drawcords on the range Coast to country so they were dye to match (match the outer colour)

I managed to send out a copy of a kids print to my managers to get feedback and see what could be improved.

The pattern i have been doing for country-wear is now complete and is ready to be sent to the country-wear designer so she can look at it and see what needs to be changed and what colours she wants to use with the design. i am not allowed to show the print as it isn't in stores yet!

The Modern heritage designer asked me to update all AW22 pre and main specs she had created, adding the colour CADS and whatever update she wanted me todo.

At the end of the week we had a missing parcel that was sent down to Alexa Chung so i had to figure out where it was! turns out the parcel had been to the place and nobody was in to pick it up!

I had to update the AW22 colour boards as some of the designers had changed colours so it needed to be up to date.

On the Friday, I had a meeting with my line manager and the country-wear designer to go through the prints i had created for them, what could be changed and what they loved about them.

As the product development manager was away on holiday, I was asked by her to check all brand lab samples that had arrived and to ensure I put them into the brand lab tracker to say we had arrived them.

Throughout March / Week 1

March was very much Launch and photoshoot. Launch being when the actual garments for SS21 pre are put into the stores.

Photoshoot is getting models to come into the studio and getting photos took for the current season we are working on this being SS22.

I had to add ‘BCI cotton’ onto all spec sheets that were using sustainable wax.

There were a few more placement students added throughout the whole company and because of this we had a company meeting and we were all introduced to the company through teams! it was exciting and interesting to meet everyone and see students doing many things within the company.

I was given a task to complete the AW22 pre and Main colour and moodboards and making sure the boards were ready for a meeting with the sales team later in the month.

the product development manager asked me to add the SS22pre conversions to PLM and range directories so designers and managers knew the prices and how much it would be sold in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

For AW22, I was asked by the international designer to pull together a list of styling names that could be used to name the AW22 garments for the BI ranges. i had to avoid names that are used by big brands such as Porche.

After completing the AW22 styling names for BI, i was asked by the designers for Coastal, country and Modern heritage to get names from coastal flowers, country flowers and modern street names/ girls names for Mod Heritage. i also looked into many other things that i could use as names for the garments and sent the list to the designers.
